Frankly, the only weak point for me about this game is the werehog form and the qte. There was frankly no reason to give this new form to sonic except being released in the Twilight years. Having Sonic incapacitated at night by the curse, and having the other heroes (at least tails and knuckle) do the night levels would have been way better. And the qte, what an horrible idea, like chaining sometime 20 button chain with a freaking input delay, is nightmarish

I don't think people understand how insane this game was for 2008, a triple A game with graphic technology that pushed the console generation to its actual limit, two fully fleshed gameplay styles that could be split apart into two full priced games was and still is unheard of in the gaming industry today, you don't even have to like the day or night time stages to not appreciate how innovative and ambitious this game is, with every modern game just being another open world snooze fest, games like this come only once in a lifetime and should be respected

This makes me so nostalgic. The soundtrack, the cutscenes, the Sun and Moon medals, feeding Chip various international snacks THE MILLION-DOLLAR-INTRO! This was the first Sonic game that had the superfast dash boosts that I absolutely fell in love with and then they perfected it in Sonic Generations. The mixed reviews were hilarious to me because I enjoyed playing this sooo much! So badly wish I could play it all over again.
This game looks so damn good for it's time. Especially the CG opening and Dark Gaia cutscenes. They're some of the best I've ever seen from a videogame.
Weird how we all showed up around the same time, but then that just means we all needed a wave of nostalgia. I was 4 when it was released. Now I'm 18 and about to graduate. i absolutely love the whole OST being centered around “Endless Possibilities” by Jared Reddick from Bowling For Soup. when it plays at the end it perfectly ends the whole adventure we all just went through. it felt like a summer movie or something, something no other sonic game has made me feel

Honestly, as a kid i always admired the opening cause it was so flashy and all But now, i still admire it, more than ever After learning about animating and how things really work, im ever more amazed on how they pulled this off
10 years later, and there has YET to be a 3D Sonic game that is as polished as this from the good story, nice scripts, beautiful graphics, incredible intro cinematic, (debatably) gameplay, challenges & difficulty, & how well this game keeps you occupied on 100% everything. I love this game so much, man. Sonic Team seriously needs to go back to their ways in 2008 & give us another phenomenal Sonic game that could be better than Unleashed. We really need one right now. Do you know how exhausted Sonic must have been after that game? He likely got such little sleep and rest throughout that his actions of feeing like he was going to give up is completely valid. It makes sense as to why he passed out after the chaos emeralds’ energy is released. His transformations every dawn and dust must take a lot out of him, as well as traveling around almost 24/7 both day and night, at a time where he should be resting, as well as possible jet lag and time changes. He took such good care of the world when it needed it, but not enough for himself. Rest easy, hero.
Pretty sure it's the same model for Sonic in Forces, seriously the model is so clean, both are similar, but the shading in the two games make them look too different, seriously they need this Sonic in the new movie.
For people wondering the hedgehog engine was the best for the sonic games and unleashed was the only one to utilize it until forces came out. The cg was completely separate from the engine and Sega usually does a great job with the cinematics. But either way the engine was amazing for its time and kinda feels a bit washed up in forces.
This game is, for some reason, in a very special part of my heart. Maybe because of the music and the ambientation. I played this game when it first came out, and it was my first game on the wii that my father gave me, it is truely special and, watching this video made me feel like a little kid again, and I remember how it made me appear in this fantasy world, escaping the reality that I was struggling with.

Here’s what Unleashed did right: - It was ambitious - It had gorgeous graphics - Pixar quality cutscenes - Innovation - It was fun, fast paced action - The voice actors were amazing (specifically Sonic and Eggman) and the writing was ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Seriously, Sonic’s not some stereotypical “rad” teen in unleashed like he was in Adventure. Sonic feels 3 dimensional in Unleashed. The writers made Sonic a mature hero that treats his friends with respect. In Unleashed Sonic is serious when *he needs to be* serious. Nothings actually forced. Also, Sonic’s iconic sass is still there, although it’s mostly directed at Eggman, which makes perfect sense. It seems like the writers from the “dark age” really knew what they were doing. Sonic shouldn’t try to be cool. His actions should make him cool, as seen in the opening cutscene. Sonic’s maturity in this game is perfect. Sonic’s voice actor is also great at showing a variety of emotions and Eggman’s voice is just amazing. Ian Flynn is a great writer, but nobody will beat unleashed’s writers. Hopefully we see something more like that in the next sonic game... Forces writing was so, so bad... He got a bunch of robots, it’s possible the robots just have to multiply themselves to build to an amount that they can do things much faster. Just think of countless Sonic destroyed, those can probably build a Statue of Liberty in a day or two.

You could tell that Sonic '06's reception REALLY got to the Sonic Team. They didn't hold back with the beginning cutscene. They wanted to make up for Sonic's declining reputation. I think they did a wonderful job with this game! I even liked the Warehog stages imo (could be tweaked more, yes.) Still my favorite Sonic game to date. The story is very emotional too. LOVE it.

Jason Griffith was always a good Sonic, but this game was definitely his best performance
he was suffering w strep throat during the recording sessions for the game. yet he still managed to pull off some of the best lines.

Here’s what Unleashed did right:
- It was ambitious
- It had gorgeous graphics
- Pixar quality cutscenes
- Innovation
- It was fun, fast paced action
- The voice actors were amazing (specifically Sonic and Eggman) and the writing was ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Seriously, Sonic’s not some stereotypical “rad” teen in unleashed like he was in Adventure. Sonic feels 3 dimensional in Unleashed. The writers made Sonic a mature hero that treats his friends with respect. In Unleashed Sonic is serious when *he needs to be* serious. Nothings actually forced. Also, Sonic’s iconic sass is still there, although it’s mostly directed at Eggman, which makes perfect sense.
It seems like the writers from the “dark age” really knew what they were doing. Sonic shouldn’t try to be cool. His actions should make him cool, as seen in the opening cutscene.
Sonic’s maturity in this game is perfect. Sonic’s voice actor is also great at showing a variety of emotions and Eggman’s voice is just amazing.
Ian Flynn is a great writer, but nobody will beat unleashed’s writers. Hopefully we see something more like that in the next sonic game...

The cutscenes for this game were beautiful. Sonic Unleashed is the best modern Sonic game. I enjoyed the night stages, but even for those that didn’t, the day stages were unbeatable.

He got a bunch of robots, it’s possible the robots just have to multiply themselves to build to an amount that they can do things much faster. Just think of countless Sonic destroyed, those can probably build a Statue of Liberty in a day or two.
Sonic Unleashed is undoubtedly the best Sonic movie ever. Fighting an entire space fleet. The legendary clash between the forces of day, light and rebirth vs the forces of dark, night and destruction. Traveling around the world to save it. Fighting robots and some very powerful dark forces. Sonic’s transformation during night.

@Ilay That's exactly what it is, all the people who didn't like this game, SA2, Shadow the Hedgehog, and Sonic 06 because they were too dark made SEGA think that only children play Sonic games, Sonic Forces (which is okay) and Sonic Boom (which sucked) would've been a whole lot better if the fans knew what they wanted and didn't keep changing their minds, Sonic has one of the worst fan bases in video game history.
As of this comment, Happy Birthday Sonic Unleashed! 10 years since the last time a Sonic game felt like a Sonic game. Well, personally Black Knight is underrated in it’s own way. But yeah! And I still miss Jason Griffith to this day.

You could tell that Sonic '06's reception REALLY got to the Sonic Team. They didn't hold back with the beginning cutscene. They wanted to make up for Sonic's declining reputation. I think they did a wonderful job with this game! I even liked the Warehog stages imo (could be tweaked more, yes.) Still my favorite Sonic game to date. The story is very emotional too. LOVE it.
Can’t believe I’ve never played this game before. It looks absolutely amazing. The version which I saw as a kid was the PS2 version but never got to play it until recently.
The PS3 and XBOX 360 versions are better for graphics and gameplay.

It's sad that fans call this the Dark Ages of Sonic games, yeah Sonic games in the 2000s weren't perfect, BUT they were atleast the most creative and willing to experiment with Sonics canon lore.
I think it's also called the Dark Era because of the grittier stories before the Meta Era.

@GREENWOLF 1337 The Xbox version of Sonic Unleashed has the highest poly model of Sonic probably to this day, but the Sonic Model on the Wii version can look just as good with certain shaders, I agree that the Xbox version is much better.
