    The man's name is Suliman Altaf. He was sentenced to 30 years for killing a 15-year-old boy, who was trying to protect his mother, who was also stabbed, but survived.

And the judge for handing out a sentence that wasn't utterly pathetic. I wonder if he's sat in his cell now asking himself if it was all worth it? What a waste of life and everyone's time and money. For what? RIP kid.

      The amount that come in and are assessed as not suitable to be released to the general public would surprise you , going on in USA too , I watched a news report where a doc said some could never be released , and we are still allowing them in , I know there were a lot due to Syrian war which was a continuation of on going conflict with Isis and earlier conflicts , that could be a reason why the conflict was arranged to flood the west with dangerous people cause a lot didn't really add up in the past events , there was no real reason for 9\11 other than the reason some say for Oct 7th

      The truth is once they land in France, which is a perfectly safe country, they technically can't then want to seek asylum elsewhere.
      If I was fleeing persecution, danger or a war zone, I'd have my family with me and we would be glad of the first safe refuge!
      My first priority would be to make sure my family is safe, NOT leave them behind.
      My second priority would be to want to go back home when my country is safe to return to.

It is intended to be watched by a general audience. The only message is conveys is how brave the lifeboat crews are. Don't forget this is the anniversary of the loss of the Penlee lifeboat, when the whole crew were killed trying to rescue the crew of a ship that had gone onto the rocks in Cornwall (they were all killed as well).

    I am shocked and angry at all the comments blaming the RNLI for going to the rescue of people in trouble at sea. They are not out there to make judgments on the people they go to help, they are out there to help. Period. This was a frightening incident for all the people on that boat after the fact, but they were out there doing their voluntary dangerous job as they always do. My hat is off to them always!

    RNLI are volunteers dealing with a complete failure of the French and British governments to deal with these desperate people. We now have people in Britain who no idea of what this country stands for, the RNLI are the best example of what it means to be British. We are a fair people the coastguard should have been massively expanded to deal with UK government incompetence regarding 'asylum' seekers not risking the lives of the RNLI.

    The almost exact same thing happened in north America. If you look up Oregon coast guard boat collapse. A man wanted for crimes in Canada fled all the was to the Oregon coast in the United States. He then stole a boat, but called for a mayday when rough waves make him take on water. The coast guard saved him seconds before a huge wave flips the boat multiple times. Hours later authorities figure out who he is. He also put a dead fish at the door of the house that was used in the movie The Goonies 🤷‍♂️

    The RNLI are there to save lives. Not to get involved in political and asylum claims. Each member might have their own personal feelings on this, but they remain professional because they have a job to do.
    Do I agree with people crossing into the UK via dinghy’s, of course not. Do I agree with us housing them over UK residents? Not a chance. But I don’t blame the RNLI for doing their job either by saving lives regardless of race, creed or colour.

      They wouldn't have to though if our leaders actually did their jobs properly and stopped such crossings before they even set off.
      The French turn a blind eye to the problem because they see it as an issue solving itself.
      There needs to be an amendment to asylum and Refugee laws where avenues are opened more widely for claims, but only in the first country you arrive in that is a signatory to the UNHCR as opposed to picking and choosing where you claim.

      Even in America, that's technically incorrect. That's supposed to be "fatality" as a noun, with "casualty" being dead AND injured. So in an incident, 3 dead and 5 injured would be 8 casualties, or of the dead, 3 fatalities. Even so, people do use it as though it's equivalent to "fatality" a lot; just something to be aware of.

    People accusing the RNLI of trafficking are ridiculous. The RNLI are governed by law, and would be in serious trouble if they allowed someone to die at sea. If the RNLI pick an immigrant up, they get in contact with the relevant authorities. Little fact for you all: around 70% of migrants picked up by the RNLI are deported back to their countries of origin.
