Holy fk,I was just listening to ''Self esteem'' when I thought how this song sounds like ''Smells like teen spirit''.I searched the combination ,and here I am.You are brilliant, here's a like!
I'm glad someone else caught onto the similarity, I think the key thing is the tempo and the drumbeat/drum fill. You'll notice the same drum beat in gorilla radio by Rage Against the Machine.
Heard today that offspring sold their music for 35 mill. I’m 45. This was technically my generations music in the 90s. But I’m a drummer and I was in to 80s rock and progressive during this time. I hated 90s music because of the lowest common denominator breakdown of musicianship. Yes, I understand that there was no new ground to break coming out of the 80s because everything had been done and done. Van Halen was copied with distaste to excess by the late 1980s. The only surviving, still successful bands in the 90 coming from the 80s were the “original” established bands such as Van Halen, Aerosmith, Pink Floyd, and huge hits bands like Bon Jovi and Metallica. I think alternative was just a “back to basics” or lowest common denominator mentality. Starting over with grunge. Simple. No double bass progressive drums and no classical scale based technical guitar playing. So, when I heard about this band selling their music for 35 mill I thought.....that’s too much surely? I mean, who were they? They were not a Fleetwood Mac or Elton John? I look them up and hear all these familiar punk, silly songs that were familiar to me. It brought me back to the 90s. Lots of movies on the 90s had these songs as soundtracks. The beginning of freestyle motor cross and the X-Games had these types of songs. Sounded like background punk energetic music. I remember my dirt bike phase....in the 90s and all the riders dying there hair with spikes and ear rings. Rockstar energy drink. The Knack Knack on supercross jumps. Crusty Demons video tapes and dvds we would buy at the motorcycle shop had these type of songs as soundcheck. The Southern California surfer, motorcrosser music. I was never a country music redneck even though I’m from georgia and I have an accent. But, I could never get in to this music. Of course not. Cause I was a hard rock drummer who like Van Halen and Rush! But, this music did its job of putting a time stamp on the 90s. This was after grunge and considered rock I suppose? Pop rock or something? I start pulling up songs on UA-cam and I realize these guys had a lot of songs in this era. Familiar sounds. Commercial. I just never paid attention. So, I finally hear this one song where the beginning is....”nah nah nah nah nahhhhhhh” and it kicks in. I tell myself, “oh? This band remade he nirvana song!!!!” And that’s how I arrived at this UA-cam video that i am writing this crazy long comment on. I find out....everyone else thought the songs sounded the same or were the same!!!! Is this what is called “The a Mandela Affect?” The Bernstein Bears....but it was really the Berenstein Bears. Lol.
They were supposed to, along with Green Day and a few other notable bands. But they had to call to quits cuz Kurt wants a break from touring, and the rest... is history.
to Lady Gaga - Bad Romance, which is a bizarre way to copy the style. Oh and as to More Than a Feeling. The guitar riff is a bit of a rip of Cream - Badge. So what we see is Badge -> More Than a Feeling -> Smells Like Teen Spirit -> Self Esteem -> Bad Romance. A grand musical evolution.
jaja my english is not the best, sorry about that, bro. The cover seems so good edited that I thought it was a real album. Awesome mashup, you're a geniuos.
this is so wrong its right but it's hurting my brain cus it's thinking that's not right but it works oddly enough. same 4/4 beat in the same key so it smells like self esteem
Just like Kurt Cobain, that's what I like about them, they don't pretend that they are better than the audience, we feel like friends instead of some big ego trip. Same with The Offspring, the 90's outlive music now, oftentimes.
??? For real? You actually prefer them?? I didn't know that was possible. No offense, I just don't get it. You are free to prefer whatever band you like but I just don't get it man, I feel like the offspring are kind of derivative, selfesteem is their attempt at recreating smells like teen spirit. Its like preferring Godsmack to Alice in Chains, it's kinda wack not gonna lie
A mashup doesn't have to be between two songs with the same chord progressions. That would be very limiting. As far as mashups are concerned, if it sounds good, then why not? And to me and thousands of others, this does.
It's all about the key, if the melody can fit within a key or the modes of that key it'll work. The chord progression can be completely different as long as the notes from the melody can fit in with the various keys that each chord can be played in. C major is the 1 chord in C major, but it's the 4 chord in F major and the 5 chord in G major, so you can technically play notes from all 3 of those keys over the C major chord (and if it's a C power chord, as most of the chords in both songs are not adding a major 3rd or a minor 3rd, there's an even larger selection of keys that they work with). There is a lot you can do with a melody over riffs made up of mainly basic power chords or major and minor chords. I'm using this as an example but self esteem and smells like teen spirit are most likely in keys that are very related - I don't know what key either song is in but they're both definitely based on a major scale so even if they don't share a lot of chord tones and melody you can pitch shift the chord progression until it does work because almost every song in popular music is based off of 1 of the 12 major scales, so you can almost always just move the guitar up or down in pitch as a whole till it works.
that intro is perfection

honestly fucking same
That is how i got here
The big difference is the chord progression, but the overall style and rhythm are quite similar.
Same here ❤️
@bero48 I think Self esteem is better than SLTS imo.

You made something i had been imagining for awhile and just ran into it on accident.
man this stuff rocks

They were supposed to, along with Green Day and a few other notable bands. But they had to call to quits cuz Kurt wants a break from touring, and the rest... is history.

That is Asbabun Nuzul about that songs
to Lady Gaga - Bad Romance, which is a bizarre way to copy the style.
Oh and as to More Than a Feeling. The guitar riff is a bit of a rip of Cream - Badge.

Bush - Little things
An epic masterpiece:-)
Does this material exist or it's just a very good mashup?
Jorge Cisneros not sure what you mean by "does it exist?" but if you're wondering if I made it myself, then yes I did. I promise.
jaja my english is not the best, sorry about that, bro. The cover seems so good edited that I thought it was a real album. Awesome mashup, you're a geniuos.
Dude honestly not bad hell yea!!
wonderful. amazing.
Great, sounds great
Nicely done
Is there a reversed version? Nirvana's lyrics to the Offspring song? I mean it sounds like ass here and there but overall they're similar.
this is so wrong its right but it's hurting my brain cus it's thinking that's not right but it works oddly enough. same 4/4 beat in the same key so it smells like self esteem
good job, respect ! sound quality is a bit low unfortunately
Peter Sommer Those are the tracks that I had to work with. I couldn't do much about it :/ but oh well :P
curveball111
compliment anyways )
Peter Sommer Thank you :)

I have an Offspring smells like teen spirit cover actually
O M G
well, it's kinda weird but i really like it
So so right
pretty good. 😊
this doesn't sound too bad, but still weird.
It falters heavily at the chorus but most of it is very solid. The pre-chorus sounds fantastic in particular.
Great song to start a mob to...
I think it would of been better with lituim but what do i know?! lol
i love nirvana and offspring.. perfect song
awessomezz!!
great
I always thought these songs sounded similar.
Pensé que era el único que pensaba que sonaban similar
Dope
Boston More Than A feeling

Yeaaaaah yeeeaaaaah! Better metal mashup *___*
As a preteen I've always gotten these two songs confused because of the bass lines
Throw in lithium theeree and its same lol
Amien
IM FUCKIGFN SCREAMING
I love the Offspring more than Nirvana and Self Esteem is a better song than SLTS imo.

The problem is that sequence of chords is totally different...

Damn, I must be old because I think they just ruined two perfectly awesome songs. New generation, new taste in music.
Nope it doesn't work, only similarity is the strum pattern, totally different key and chords
Sorry you think so, but over 900 other people enjoyed, so I guess it's just not for you. Thanks for commenting!
I think Nirvana was a PUNK band
Just because they strum mute the guitar doesn't mean they sound alike
Very intelligent comment! 10/10
I was listening to an instrumental of teen spirit and self esteem started playing in my head. I knew I wasn’t the only one. 😮💨
great
