Nothing makes me feel more like an underdeveloped underling than this video. I have a bunch of Pokémon amiibo and all I did was turn them into their shiny variants. After watching this video, I now realize how fun amiibo customization can be.

If you actually look at Hammerslam Bowser in Skylanders, it has a lot of those colour details that are missing from the figure. The spikes of the hammer are silver in game and while the center of the hammer is still all silver, it has a dark silver for the body with a much white silver for the highlights. It's largely the same with his armour. There is a ton of shading on the game model that isn't reflected in the figure.
Honestly if you wanted to just give your Hammerslam a better paint job, matching it to its in game counterpart would go a long way to making it look like an amiibo quality figure.

TJ I love this series a lot. This series showed me the possibilities of customs. I feel like making my own custom because of this series. I can't wait to start it and finish it and show my results to you everyone else on Twitter.
All of the customs look great, but I think Peach's Clown Car should have had some metallic pink in there somewhere.
It also should had a Heart pattern.
The cup of it actually is metallic pink (rose gold) but it was difficult to light it in a way the reflected the true color.
I actually might add hearts. That's a great idea!

wow when most people make customs they end up pretty crappy but when u made it it looked legit
Interesting fact about the HammerSlam Bowser NFC chip. It is actually a dual chip, distinct skylander and amiibo chips built into the same structure. To prevent crossed wires they included what is basically a switcher. By rotating the flames it moves the chip across a thin piece of metal that bridges the gap between two different sets of contacts effectively completely the circuit for either the amiibo chip or the skylander chip separately. By removing the chip from the base you also separated it from that bridging switch which is why it didn’t respond at all. However because of that design there is an open contact on the chip which may have been fried by exposure to water. I opened the base of mine and removed the chip without water treatment to be sure it would continue to function.
Unfortunately if you intend to use the original NFC chip you need to do one of two things. Either glue the bridge back into the chip in the position where it keeps the amiibo portion activated or devise a new method to allow you to switch back and forth. Either way it is going to be something of an extra step so swapping in a Smash Bowser chip is probably easier especially considering HammerSlam Bowser has very limited functionality in almost every game.
These videos make me want to redesign EVERYTHING. Every figure, suit of armor, character design, I'm just itching to give everything around me an overhaul.

The reason why the Hammer Slam Bowser amiibo chip didn't work after you placed the figure in water was because the contacts that were used to short the chip out for whatever option was selected was not present on the chip, and therefore not working.

There's one particular custom I was kind of wondering about. The Lucas amiibo released a few months ago, and because in Smash Bros. one of his alternates is a Masked Man T-Shirt, do you think you could do either Lucas's shirt or the Masked Man himself? In case you don't know what it references, he's an antagonist who appears in Mother 3. In fact, Smashified did an updated model for it too, so you could work off of that.

EDIT: Oh yeah, by the way, if I'm correct, the Nintendo Skylander chips do work with games such as Smash, so you're kinda boned. You basically just murdered an Amiibo.
Yes but not for the reason he thought. The skylanders chip is actually two chips in one. To swap between skylander mode and amiibo mode there is a circuit bridge on the top of the top of the chip that brides two different electrical connections depending on what position the amiibo is in. That bridge is part of the base so by removing the chip he removed the connector which means no power getting to either version of the NFC.
You can make it function again with a little soldering but you have to choose which version of the chip you want skylander or amiibo and it'll be that permanently afterwards.

Not to be a downer, but I think it would've been so much cooler if you had integrated the chip inside of Bowser Junior's clown car, So that you would still be able to drive it around and use it in the games

I think the reason the bowser chip doesn't work is because it's different emmiters for skylander and amiibo, with one being covered by something in the figure to use the other. Maybe they can't both be uncovered at the same time?
Hopefully there will be a season 2! I got back into Amiibo, and I really want to make more customs, and see more! Their so cool!

tj keep up the good work don't waste the amazing talent you have and also a thing i would change on your bowser amiibo is instead of using a dragon try using a lego bionical ball missile because it as a small hole in the bottom so you can feed a paper clip through and also is a bit bigger and a bobomb is a bit bigger than a two star ball action figure but that's my personal preferred method keep up the good work I can't wait to see you inspire me to try next

I know I'm mega late and this won't be noticed, but I think I know why the figure wasn't working as an Amiibo.
For Hammer Slam Bowser and Turbo Charge Donkey Kong, their bases twist to let you switch between Amiibo and Skylander. To make them act as an Amiibo, twist it so you can see 'Amiibo' though the hole in the base. Same thing for the Skylanders side. Amiibo only works with games that allow Amiibos, not in Skylanders. Skylanders only works with the Skylander games that aloow him, not anything Amiibo related. However, you can twist it so the hole is in the space between Amiibo and Skylanders. If the hole is over that space, is cannot act as an Amiibo nor a Skylander. I think it's trying to read both at the same time but can't or the data is compacted to only be over the letters of the side you want it to be, not too sure. It doesn't read because the reader can't see the data of the other side or sees both at once and can't choose which one it wants to scan.
If I'm wrong, oops. If I'm right, then I had that feeling for way too long and only now have I said it.
