Hey Joshua, I have a problem and I was wondering if you can help me.
I recently bought your DIY drone kit v2 analog version and Im almost done setting eveything up its just when I open betaflight now it keeps showing "-- Failed to open serial port" I had already downloaded all the drivers i needed and it was working just fine the days before its just now that it's not connecting, I would appericate it a lot if you had any advice on what i should do, Thank you.
Usually when I run into that issue, it’s due to a faulty cable.
This whole video reminded me of the whole "boiling a frog" thing. If you slooowly increase the weight of JB's quads, he probably wont notice. haha
Thanks so much josh. the fact that you are not an expert race pilot makes your reviews so much more valuable to me. I know what you are reporting is so much closer to my experience compared to a vanny or MCK opinion.
Wow, this size quad really highlights the weight/flight characteristics vs image quality tradeoff. No denying the analog flies fantastic, but the dji image quality is undoubtedly the best. Wasn't expecting such a big difference! Great review JB 👍
Great insights JB. And I just gotta say I LOVE those shots when you're just sitting at the picnic table and talking about the drones. The colors and slightly out of focus background looks really nice and homey, especially compared to the usual perspective from your workshop. It's a really nice change of pace.
lol
This is just the video that I needed to make my decision !! Thank you very much Joshua.
Fantastic flying and review, Joshua! 😃
Those systems are getting better and better!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Mate! I can't believe the crisp very nice color profile of the camera you're using when seated at the bench. Such a great scene, with the blurr background and coloring / contrast! Hollywood-style. Really got me. The rest of the video, also not so bad, but was just so stunned by the video....
The HDZero one looked the best and flew the best of the HD versions! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Thanks for saving me 26 minutes 😂
@@TheVeganarchism That's my opinion that's not Bardwell's lol
I totally agree. The Walksnail picture when moving fast is so unclear, only big blobs of colour
Holy s***t! Analogue looked so good, when you switched from dji to analogue, I was like huh - is this analogue?!
I noticed an obvious thing the other day that may not be obvious to everyone.
I realized that all the sims feel much more realistic when I set a max frame rate I can maintain constant. The sim running around 90 to 130 fps feels fine. It when I set it to 60fps and sync it so every frame is 60 it feels right. So the lower constant frame rate is like real life.
Same here you are getting a varying frame rate vs a steady frame rate like HDzero.
So on the sim having lower graphics settings and a low frame rate feels way better that the graphics maxed and varying frame rate.
Depends on what you are wanting to do sometimes I want to see the fancy graphics but I still go back to lower it just feels better.
If you have a God like computer then you can have both. 😊
Thanks for the awesome review JB. Ended up using your link when I noticed that Flywood is also doing a combo deal with the Walksnail VRX with this drone, and I just couldn't resist picking it up.
Probably safe to assume they will send the newest walksnail 1s vtx with the new vrx. If my goggles had an HDMI input I'd accept the 1 frame of delay vs flying a fat naked dji(so gross).
@@ChrisHarmon1 I certainly hope so. Looking forward to it even though for now it'll be plugging into a box goggle, until I'm able to see about picking up a hdzero goggle at some point.
Mr. Bardwell knocks it out of the park once again. Great review!
Always a great watch.
Thanks JB....great review!
Good one JB! I like that you changed the title of this video to be more positive 😃
It’s nice to see WS getting the credit that they deserve.
First I'd like to say that I do appreciate your videos and I understand that digital is the new hotness. However, some of us don't have the ability to go digital and are struggling to find decent analog systems that fit our needs for our micro quads. A good example is that I just recently picked up a mobula 7 HD and I flew it twice and the caddex camera is now dead and I do mean dead I went into this knowing that I would probably have to replace the camera but I did not realize how difficult that actually was going to be to find a good cheap solution. My preferred case is 1080p to 4K with an onboard DVR however it doesn't look like that's going to be an option for size. What I'm currently looking at purchasing is a runcam nano 2 with the happymodel diamond VTX DVR. That is if I can find them in stock anywhere. You may have already done a video like this in the past but if you could do an updated video where you talk about analog or possibly even digital together where you discuss the best bang for the buck in both Solutions. And hopefully places where they're in stock
Every time you come across your property fence I'm wondering why there's no warning on the screen. You should really enjoy this.
Nice tour of the Bardwell play park. 😁
Good on ya dad👍
Great honest review
Remember the Trans Tek Beatle? That was a DJI Air Unit 2.5” and flew pretty damn well on 4S. Not sure if you consider it a “Micro” but it’s my favorite sub 3”. Now you’ve inspired me to try a naked vista that quad.
Lowest I've heard of is a whoop at 35g with a Naked Vista! Try to beat it! my lowest is a 75mm carbon fiber RIPPER @ 38g! 😁
Like always very good video thank you.
The botgrinder shirt is my favorite!!! lol
Happy Thanksgiving Joshua. Thank you for putting out another great video on a holiday. My 4 week old infant is really enjoying it. Maybe a little flying buddy in the making.
I really like your micro fly in and around the trees. You should review more of these style quads.
You mixed HDZero with Walksnail in the opening shot. I had a gasp when you said "HDZero" and saw the "L" on the antenna :)
Happy Thanksgiving!😁 I was waiting for this vid to come lol I was disappointed in the performance of the hd zero😫 only because that's what I want to go with as far as my first HD gogs....if the output power was better I believe it would've at least been number 2 on JB's list 😁 awesome review ✌🏽
I think it really needs better antennas on the goggles those stubby antennas and then facing the rong way doesn't help HDzero needs more help than the other HD systems at least for now
Hi Josh, Great video on the difference between the video links on Micros Quads. I just love micros. they've fun to fly, inexpensive to purchase, well they used to be, there's no restitution, but most of all, you can fly almost anywhere, inside or outside, and no one cares. Roto/Rita did a video flying a babito in an airport terminal. Weight has always been an issue, but now that you can get an F.C. with built-in HDZERO, Walksnail, the weight is better. But the DJI version is to much weight with an air unit. for a micro. Which one is best for me. Well that's easy, The Analog is, Thanks again for the video and information about the different video systems for a micro.
I have the DJI and love it
Just ordered my first analogue tinywhoop, after flying DJI for a couple of years and Joshua - I cannot get enough of your videos!
Thanks a lot for what you're doing for the community! As a complete new starter, all this content really helps understand the differences very well!
Not like you have much of a choice with a tinywhoop.
Just ordered the DJI one, as I'm already on DJI with most of my quads and I wanna retire my old analog gear.
It may seem to lack a bit in terms of performance compared to the other versions, but I'm just excited to fly a tiny drone like that on digital.
I don't plan on doing crazy freestyle stuff with it anyway, just some chill backyard cruising.
Thanks for the comparison!
hey im just getting into fpv and i recently got a dji fpv drone, it came with the goggles v2 and the rc controller 2. if i got one of these drones that have the dji, would i be able to use my goggles and controller with the drone? or would i need to do mods to the controller and goggles? or just they wont work? thanks!
@@benjfpv. It should work from what I remember, but you gotta switch the Goggles operating mode, as one is for the DJI FPV Combo and the other is for the CaddX Vista / Air Unit.
I just purchased DJI goggles v2 about 3 months ago... but I'm gunna switch to HDzero. If your on a budget or fly long range then Analog is still a go to. And HDzero makes Analog look better while also giving you access to digital. Its the perfect goggle
Gotta disagree there Holmes to to each their own
@@creationlabsinc.189 Me too!
See, you are believing the most OVER HYPED spec in all of FPV! Latency! You've got the Best Tech. HDZero isn't close! Go fly a DJI drone behind trees, bushes, and buildings. Explore and fly far away...
Now, go fly an HDZero quad - LEARN! It can't punch itself out of a paper bag! No penetration! It's awful! Go for ANALOG2 if you want, but you already bought the best, and at the very best price too! It's not even close! Believe the hype if you want...
Remember....say "one one thousand" very fast. That's a second. Now imagine breaking that one second into 1000 parts. That's a SHIT LOAD of parts all in one second of time! Then, try to tell me you can feel the difference between something with 6 parts (ms) more, that happens in ONE SINGLE SECOND! Do the math. Do the science. Use common sense & logic...That's what Chris Rosser tested to be the difference between DJI and HDZero...go watch his test a few days ago. Watch the video closely - Look at all of the image distortion in the HDZero image - especially when he crops in. HDZero is great for racing or flying in an open field. It can't fly behind objects because it has almost no penetration!
Even Pro Pilot Vanover said, when he flew both back to back on a race course, blazing through the course - He could barely feel the difference and could compensate for it. His track times were almost identical. Hundredths of a second apart! If you look for it, you can find and watch that older video too.
Its definetly subjective to what you want from it. I fly micros to explore new spots and cruise around when too many pedestrians are at a flying spot and i dont want to bring attention flying acro or cruise with a 5". So for me i think the HD quad with the most reliable range makes sense which in this case would be the vista version. Regardless if i can hit that range with a small pack i will still get a more consistant bitrate and penetration.
Great video review. JB, what are the best antennas to put on the Eachine EV300O goggles that i purchased for my son today?
Hi Joshua!! it was a really nice comparison, I loved the way you explained it (although I still didn't quite understand what did you pick Walksnail over the HDzero if the video quality looks similar and during the test the Walksnail did a bit of prop washing...) either way, one important thing I'm missing here is the flight duration of each, even though you said it was longer on the analog I would really like to understand if we are talking of 2 min vs 3 min or a massive difference of 5 min to 1.5 min, Do you have that information with you? thanks in advance in any case!!
Any flying the DJI version at 700ma to make it a fairer comparison.
that was a useful comparison. It's all about what compromise you want to do, and I agree that the DJI better range is not worth it on a tiny whoop due to range being limited by the battery capacity. Great video! Analog needs cheaper hardware (goggles, VRX, etc) to fly, so there's also that.
if they all had the same output power walksnail would have won in range. it's not hard capped like DJI is. i agree about VTX power making flight time much shorter and on micros we don't need more video range than the micro battery can travel.
@@djSpinege Will you go out over 13km with a 2S 450mAh battery? I doubt...
@@KnowThings ok, so you agree with us ...
TBF the extra power wouldnt just help overall range. It would also effect the bitrate and penetration, would it not?
Yep. I fly a toothpick more than any other quad. This is one of the reasons why I spent my fpv dollars on the HDZ Goggles instead of new DJI. They can do analog, HDZ and Walksnail (via the VRX).
Good choice if that is all you fly.
Yeah if you fly all sorts of quads that would be the way to go. I only fly digital so it doesn't work for me.
To me, flying analog would be like going back to VHS.
@@dangerous8333 Or like going back to CRT TV's! lol
The quality on the analog camera choice leaves a lot to be desired, and that's putting it mildly. I'm surprised Flywoo thought it was passable, especially for a $170+ micro.
Seems like a nifty little quad otherwise.
Yeah, makers never use the great analog cameras! They always use the SKANKS! lol In the days of digital, that's just DUMB!
I wish someone with great piloting skills would fly one of these with the prop guards on to see how much the guards effects flying. I would like to spec race the 2" quad small spaces and cheep and fast enough for some fun racing. Cheers
Nice comparison video! Since you don't like the DJI version, just ship it on to me when you are done with it. LOL :)
Cool experiment - this is exactly what I have said before about flight-feel being better with hdzero. Aside from weight changing the feel, I think video delay with hdzero vrx is too high. hdzero goggles that have 3ms delay will make this as locked in as analog. Also curious if 540p60 gives better range for you - which isna big sticking point for you (i fly closer, so it doesnt bother me much). Obviously I think hdzero is the best one because the image is better than analog, but feels just as snappy
how much video delay is there on the vrx vs the goggles?
You are very right. My order would've been the other way because of variable latency and maybe analog goes to place 3. Fixing it to 2nd seams to influence HDZero too massively to the bad side...
Hey Joshua, I noticed that the VTX antennas on the quads are all circularly polarized - analogue & DJI LHCP, HDZero & Walksnail RHCP. Flywoo doesn’t give you a choice of VTX antenna, and my HDZero setup is all LHCP (unlike yours which I can see is RHCP). Do you think it’s worth buying the LHCP for the quad side to match the polarization? Also, it looked like the stubbies on your goggles for the Walksnail test were black TrueRC LHCP antennas - could that be why the video wasn’t as good?
Walksnail really seems to be the way to go for micros of this size. A comparison for 75mm whoops would be interesting too as those extra 2 grams would make pretty significant impact there.
I am getting the Walksnail VRX and plan to combine that with the HDZero goggles because I still want to fly my analog quads and don't want to be locked into a system (no HDMI/analog in for the walksnail goggles). Having all of Walksnail+HDZero+Analog in a neat package will be amazing for micros :)
I would really like to see a video with PID tunes for, particularly the Walksnail and DJI quads.
The factory pid tune is pretty good.
I have a slackline as well. tis fun
I got the dji version, flashed 4.3.1, blue jay, and then tuned it and shed about 4 grams of weight by getting a smaller vtx and XF antenna. I also really recommend the gnb 530’s and get consistent 3.5mins with minimal sag. Dji is heavier but I love flying it.
Smaller VTX?
@@chesterlim15 read my comment again…..
@@chesterlim15 I think he meant canopy.
Way to go Bro! That's what I've been saying all along! We can MAKE IT BETTER! Use a dipole. Use a lighter canopy....you said VTX, but I think you meant canopy. VTX is the Naked Vista, and it's already as light as it can get.
But, no manufacturer spends enough time getting rid of weight! Those first micro quads makers put out as DJI BNF's were a total joke - 70 - 90 grams! lol At least Flywoo is still trying! All the rest gave up!
But, yes, we can make it lighter! My lightest to date is 38g, with a Nebula Pro Nano and a 75mm carbon fiber frame. I know of a whoop that is 35g. We can do it! We just have to keep trying. The guy who built that 35g whoop thinks he can turn the corner on 30 grams! 😎🤘

Hello Joshua. Im new to Quads but been watching your posts for a while. All my equipment is DJI. I want the little Walksnail. will it bind up to my DJI equipment? Thank You
Always wanted one of these flywoo micros 🥴
Question, walksnail and fat shark goggles both work with the avatar vtx, correct? Is the vtx transmitting on one of the 40 channels or is it something else. Pondering getting into digital but confused over hd zero and WS an FS goggles and vtx’ s. Which one do you think will be around in the future?
Just want to say thank you, for these wonderful product observations and reviews.
I was all set to buy a set of Walksnail Avatar goggles with moblite 7 until I saw this flywoo DJI version. I am very afraid of flying naked, even if I'm fairly good about plugging in a batt and flying immediately--its the crashes and sitting idle while I stand up to find it that I worry about. I have a lathe and milling machine so I may investigate some CNC mods for heat dissappation. 6g difference from heaviest HD to lightest...I'm sure there is a difference but I'd also say the battery, wire length and connectors you choose play as much a role.
Great review / comparison video. Cool little rippers. I fly analog and dji. I'd go with the analog version, it flew so well. Dji I would prefer in a 3.5 or larger, 3 inch would be the smallest. Happy flying everyone. 😎
My 38g, 75mm carbon fiber RIPPER, with a Naked Nebula Pro Nano in it, flies great! Low weight DJI quads can be built, it's just the manufacturers that have quit making BNF's, except for Flywoo. They could still shave a bunch of weight off these micros, if they actually buckled down and focused on ultra light! :)

Going with Caddx and ELRS is the best of both worlds since you're saving weight with ELRS being built in.
How about TBS crossfire Nano RX? Which one do you recommended?
like always a Great review ... I think the analog is the best one... just switch to a better analog camera ...
Hey there sir, what foam are you running on you Avatar goggles?
I know this is an old video, but do you have a recommendation for someone who would like to fly this size, smaller sized and up to 5” with one radio and one goggle?
I would have to pick DJI or analog because I don’t own any goggles for the other types. Options are great, but there are so many options these days! This hobby drains the wallet fast if you need to have one of each and everything.
Can you recommend any batteries for the drone to me?
Hello! (It's my first drone) I just bought this drone from flywoo, I also bought the generic "DMKR 008PRO" ones and I was flying it today. The signal from the glasses wasn't the best, I'd like to know if it's the drone or just the glasses. The first two batteries were working perfectly, on the third battery it was impossible to fly. I was afraid that the drone was overheating or the glasses were very bad. Do you have any idea what could be happening? Could you recommend another analog goggles that I could buy?
Would these little guys be too big to fly in the house? Was thinking a DJI one with prop guards to replace tiny whoop.
It wouldn't be impossible to fly them indoors if you're a good pilot.
Hey Joshua! I've been trying to look into getting into fpv for awhile now, but the start is difficult. I'm looking to build a drone, but have no idea where to start or what is compatible with what. Do you know where a good place is to start?
Mr Steel has a video best way to start FPV I would follow his steps it will save you money and time I started his method and then strayed off course by not getting a 5" shortly after learning acro but things are a little different now 3" Quads fly great and it just depends on what your goals are. I would give his vid a watch cheers.
Got the analog
The DJI O3 is 9 grams lighter than the version you tested, am I correct?
Can you make a video about Cetus beta fpv x?
Hdzero is the best choice, even my HDZ mobula 6 feels nimble and light weight in my house.
I love anolog😊
very curious to know how you are seeing LQ, I have updated my firmware on hdzero to latest and my elrs module and it is still flashing
@josh, does analog has CMOS sensor on the camera or CCD?
After flying both types, my preference is CCD sensor.
What is your take?
There are very few CCD sensor cameras made any more. I think Sony stopped making CCD sensors a while back. Basically all cameras now are CMOS so that's sort of what we have to live with. The non-WDR CMOS cameras have exceptionally low latency so that's not an issue.
@@JoshuaBardwell just so u know I don’t fly quads or use Beta flight, more of a Ardupilot guy flying wings, but I love your blogs😀

Thank you for taking the effort of this comparison.
The weight difference between walksnail, hd zero and dji are the same. So the lower weight of hd zero should still matter and the difference between walksnail and dji should be small but more relevant between hd zero to dji. To me the HD Zero is the clear winner. The advantage of a low latency link really shows. If Hd Zero could close the gap on output power (like 400-500 mA) it would be perfect for this formfactor.
can't agree more...
Yeah, but now try flying out further than in JB's yard! Oooops! HDZero can't fly any further, as we already saw the RAINBOW FULL SCREEN of death in his yard! lol With their TERRIBLE penetration, not being able to punch themselves out of a paper bag, if JB tried to fly any farther, even on his own property, that HDZero micro would really crap out!
It's all in the technology. HDZero is fine if you are a very competitive racer that can feel the 3 - 6 ms of latency over DJI. But it simply doesn't have as advanced tech! Most of us can't feel that one bit! It's the #1 over hyped spec in all of FPV!! That's what Chris Rosser found to be the amount in his latest tests. I don't believe most of us can feel 6 parts out of 1000 parts that make up a single second (6ms)! Think about that and repeat that sentence very slowly.
With 1200mw, and crystal clear video, I'd just buy the DJI, make some significant weight savings changes, give it a PID tune done just for the DJI version, and it'd be soooooo much more fun to fly when it weighs the same or less than the HDZero version! I know for a fact I could do it. I have a 75mm carbon fiber framed RIPPER that has a Naked Nebula Pro Nano camera in it and only weighs 38g. Very similar in weight to this analog Flywoo micro, but with 120fps, 810P HD image quality, 1200mw, and PENETRATION that is CraZy! Something HDZero, and their mediocre tech, can only dream of having! 🤔😱🤘
@@KOrnhOliO1 sorry, don't agree. Some of us are very sensitive about latency. I'm not fast racer, but I can feel and don't like it. It makes me more confident to get immediate video and RC response than having the clearest picture.

Hi Mr joshua. Im buying radiomaster tx16s elrs. Just want to ask you about the gimbal. Which one better between this two.
Option 1: v4.0 Hall sensor with aluminium fascia.
Option 2: AGO1 CNC HALL SENSOR.
The ag01 is better but it's more expensive. Just a question if you want to spend the money. It's not necessary. The v4 hall gimbal is also very good.
I don't doubt that HDZero will soon up the power a bit. It had by far the least power of the the bunch with 200mw. Analog was 450 ,walksnail at 350 if I recall and then the DJI was off the charts. In my opinion with a good signal the HDzero picture was right up there with the other HD systems even with their lowest performing [although lightest] camera. Walksnail on 1s whoops on the market really show the weight penalty of the system compared to HDzero. DJI can't go there at all. All in all a great time to be into FPV!!
I ordered a cinelog v2 o3 and a pair or integra googles. The Firefly 2S Nano Baby 20 HD DJI Wasp is around €290,19 EUR, do you know of any cheaper integra & ELRS compatible rtf drone for me to practice, I kind of want to bridge the gap between the simulator and the cinelog 35 without buying a second pair of googles, as cheap as possible.
Besides the weight in the analog one you have to count also with the smaller lattency. I realize a lot on it in proximity flying. For me lattency count a lot when you relay on your reflexes.
HDzero has the same or even lower latency than Analog, depending on how you count.
@@TheBellman Chris Rosser just tested all the systems a few days ago. HDZero to DJI is 3 - 6 ms!
The most over hype spec in all of FPV! 99% of us can't feel 6ms difference.

@Sco0t Rot0R in real flight at non workbench ranges the latency difference jumps to closer to 16ms on average, and it's not consistent
And you can do a latency test, when it's something you are actively controlling in real time (eg, throwing a mouse cursor around a screen) people tend to notice latency down to the order of 5ms.
Even if we just assume that an FPV pilot has slightly above average visual reflexes, 200ms, when you start talking about numbers like 10ms you're getting small but significant numbers in terms of disadvantage. You're adding 5% to your reaction time. For me, with an 170ms reaction time, using DJI would be like a 9% disadvantage.
Hello bro! I can use DJI FPV controller?

I would have put the analog in last place. I would almost rather fly line of sight than look at the 1970's video quality.
Exactly. The one thing this video really made clear to me was analog video is unacceptable.
I’ll stick to DJI on larger quads rather than look at that.
More like the 80’s vhs but I get your point.
@@creationlabsinc.189 No 1970s.
Even VHS was better.
Edit:
To be fair. 1975-1983. 😂
@@Invid72 This quad comes with DJI too.
Hi, good comparative video only one thing you forgot to compare and that's the price. I think that's very important too, less you have enough money you don't have to care about it.
I'm not willing to pay for DJI one $325 it's too much money for the small tiny drone. It's definitely not worth the money. ln my opinion there is only one winer and that's analog one 👍😎
I'm not sure I agree with the ranking. Micros don't care about range and latency matters more when doing tight proximity. But also for the average person, you're not going to go wrong between analog, WS, or HDZ. Pick your favorite system and enjoy.
Could the dji one be upgraded to also carry a 2s lion pack?
I wonder what flight time you would get out of it when using the 3000mah pack for cruising.
Yeah it's a heavy battery.
Can it be done?
I think that would be far too much weight.
@@JoshuaBardwell thanks. 🙏
Sub 250g 20min+ dji hd Cruising explorers...
I'm thinking it's possible with a 2s or 3s builds on a light 3 to 4".
Maybe there's no market tho as there's no one making one. 😥
