True. I hope there is a replacement and it’s of the 21st century and sold in North America. I’d love to see the Elise they always wanted to build but the technology didn’t exist 25 years ago but now it does, and if it still cost less than a Porsche Cayman even better.

Lotus is one of the last bastions for lightweight and purist cars without being like atoms and monos, I hope they succeed the Elise with a new gen drivers car!
Always a massive fan of the Elise
Big fan of your videos and this one is no exception. The outro, however, is perfect and made me a little emotional. Well done again. The photography and Henry’s delivery in these videos are sublime.
I was asking my local dealer yesterday about whether Lotus was making a final edition of the Elise and Exige - and then this arrives in my inbox! What a bizarre coincidence.
Wow, wow, wow... bravo! It’s at a point where every review is a very special and memorable one now. Thank you Carfection and Henry.
2:00 “If it’s not raining... may as well have the top off, then!”
My S2000 and I live by this mantra
Kind of wanted to swap the R300 for a Sport220 for a while, but now I really want a Sport240!
Very nice they choose Azure Blue for this special edition; I own an Elise S1 in Azure Blue and I love this color!
Epic car... great video.. love the pull key out shot at the end... but WHAT NEXT LOTUS?
A video that gives of the same feeling as the Elise itself. What a fantastic piece of work, I enjoyed watching that very much!
Initial reaction is just how small this car is! Henry is a giant next to it.
Excellent video Henry, thanks.
I remember the excitement of picking up the first black S2 elise in Scotland. LOTUS has run through my veins ever since.
I can't even afford an early one and yet, here you are, _teasing_ me with this beauty
I'm in the same boat, and it'll not gonna get any easier after production ends.
Up, up and away Elise.
@@Thunder.lizard lol : (
@@woodrow_mayes As everything interesting you could buy decent ones for peanuts 15years ago. 968 CS, E30s, Elise, etc ... Why did I listen to my wife back then ?
@@TheBlackD I was 3 fifteen years ago lol, you have no excuse 😂
@@woodrow_mayes well I hope you will have bigger balls than me back then and not settle for something sensible as your first and second car. Never bought bad cars but always the sensible option and it seems sensible worth nothing on the long term
9:05 I love how the bobble is flying in the wind. Funny and stylish at the same time. 👍😀
Does anyone know where the hat is from?
10:23 lol look at this shot
Mr Catchpole, your rapidly turning into my go to commentator on all things cars, reminds me of the old top gear reviews, fun, detailed and very well shot... I commend you, keep it up.
Excellent review - I bought an S2 Elise from new in 2003 - it was absolutely superb and I loved pretty much everything about it, apart from it smelt of glue in the cabin for the first few months 😁. Truly one of the great British sports cars - you will be missed 🥲
What a fantastic video. This broke my heart, i sold my lotus not too long ago i have lotus in my vains this was so sad too hear. I wish i kept it. Maybe in the future i buy one again. Thank you.
The talky bits and the watchy bits are all just marvellous. This guy, and the team, they just get cars. Makes one understand and appreciate the plucky British... welll.. carmaker.
Henry Catchpole always did a great job showing us cars.
So pleased I owned an Elise S3 220 Sport, was a fantastic car I used to love the feeling of being in a Class C racer as Henry said. My car had a hard top and it was always difficult to get in and out and it was my only criticism. Great car to drive, reasonable ownership costs and I lost very little when I sold it. Hope they don't go down the luxury route with the 131...it still needs the Lotus DNA.
I can only imagine that they'll replace it with something that's just not as good, and far more expensive.
Lotus aren’t a big company and my guess they are freeing up production capacity for the new mega car
@C J B I am so sorry that you were molested and the trauma is affecting your judgement.
and heavier
@@andrewallan5442 they're owned by a very big company, and the mega car is a statement only. The Elise replacement will be light, cool and yes probably expensive.
I doubt it will be more expensive. It wouldn't make sense to be. Also they're planning to produce a lot more of the new cars so hopefully that will keep the costs down
With the announcement of 4 pot C class AMG, Jag going all electric & the end of the current lotus range (pretty much) it’s hard not to feel like the end is nigh for petrol heads and anything remotely exciting. Yes the battery lords will provide higher power but the car will just become a white good like your iPhone or a fridge. Nothing to get overly excited about. No individuality, passion or soul. Such a shame, now’s the time to get into picking up the car you’ve always wanted, the lovely sounding engine you’ve craved, the badge you’ve wanted or the track toy you promised yourself and tinkering with it and keeping it forever
I adore my Elise S1 and I really hope that what come next is just as exciting and surprising. Also, it really makes me laugh that Lotus left the stereo in retail demo mode. They really don't give a shit about anything except the driving!
It's very hard to put the emotion of driving into words, but you seem to capture it and express it perfectly every time. Top video, and car👌
Thanks for the test drive of this final Edition
Keeping my S2 Exige forever 😎
A other beautifully crafted video Harry...nobody does it better than you.🙂🙂🙂🙂
Great video, Henry!
I truly hope a company like Caterham can get the rights to the Elise design to continually build the Elise like they did the Lotus 7/Caterham
If you can find the documentaries on how the original Elise was designed and engineered go and watch them. Amazing work.
I still remember falling in love with the first gen Elise on the Cover of "Auto Motor Sport"! must have read that road test 100+ times until i finally got to drive one a few months later. sadly as an 18 year old I couldn't get ahold of the money. and later in life shitty priorities got in the way, oh well.
still got to a lot of them. Still in love 25 years later.
Honestly there are a lot of positives of Elise turning 25 and getting retired!
Lotus still exists!
Lotus secured enough money to develop a new one!
can't wait to fall in love again!
Miss my 111R so much...Cheers, Henry.
I saw the lotus post on Instagram and here you guys have a video , great coincidence.
As usual a great video from Henry, I can't wait to see what replaces these soon to be discontinued cars as I am hopeful Lotus finally has the backing it needs to succeed.
Love the moss off the racing line, so British weather. Nice one, Henry
Brand new in 2021, and it still has a classic Halfords Sony stereo from 2001. That’s why I love it 🤷🏼♂️
Just discovered this channel, and I absolutely love it! Keep up the great work!
I'm going to miss these cars. End of an era.
I totally agree. Car roofs exist to keep moisture out of the interior, nothing more. #RoadsterLife
My Mx5's roof can't even do that. xD
LOL, sure. I'm quite happy driving a tin top with air conditioning.
@@stubones I‘m quite happy driving a drop top with air conditioning.
@@Runoratsu I have no aircon either... why do I do this to myself. xD To be fair my Mx5 cost £450 so I won't complain too much hehe
@@BMcAuley123 Mine is an NC PRHT, and… it was a bit more expensive when I bought it a couple years ago. 😅
Such a great and refreshing review.
Also a car you can track race all day long without killing your brakes and tires!
Had an Elise & Exige in the past...currently drive a 911...but just reserved a build slot for the new Type 130..roll on July & it’s unveiling 🤞
Beautiful review and cinematography as usual, well done👍
I had a supercharged S1 Elise 15 years ago. 230BHP & 710KGS. Madness that 15 years later the latest production Elise still isn't as quick. Still fancy one of these as a weekend car though!
Great as always. Actually shed a tears at the final words.
Even the pom-pom on his hat was enjoying the ride... great vid
lack of weight? well you been doing well avoiding the fridge in the lockdown mate. well done! old chappers is pleased to hear you added lightness to a lotus chassis.
