1:12 You can also select the first face, then Ctrl+Left click the last face, and it will select everything inbetween.
Bonus Tip1: ALT+Left click to select the entire loop - the direction depends if you clicked Edge or Face.
Bonus Tip2: Select a loop of edges if you CTRL+ALT+Left click.
Bonus Tip3: You can combine all of the above if you hold shift
(I only realized after that you've used some of these in the video)
really neat tips, thanks
bro this tutorial saved my life men i wish i could oil you up to show my appreciation!
thank you!
such a helpful content, thank you!
Cheers mate!
Love this kind of stuff, good work!
Best tutorial Ive ever watched. thank you very much!
Hey man, these are really cool and stylish tutorials. Thanks a lot it’s really refreshing to see that the end result is actually worth the process! I’ve been using blender professionally for years, but you’re pointing out some really nice but overlooked features so thanks for that and keep on doing it! 🎉❤
One of the nicest comments I've received! Thank you
Absolutely love that tutorial ! Never tried blender before but this video made me want to haha
You should!
That Burial album 🥂
Literally my thought when I saw it

a man of taste
You can make your life a little easier if you build the sleeve in 2D like it's going to be printed and cut. This also gives you the option of a fold-out animation for client presentations.
Just make sure to add a loop on each side of each fold. It's also a good idea to use bevel markers on the fold lines. Helps you to easily see the actual fold/cut lines when the mesh gets denser. You can do it with vertex paint but Blenders bevel markers aren't compatible with anything, so you don't have to worry about them when exporting. You don't have to use them in the bevel modifier either for this. But I'd argue, if you fold it up, you have natural bevels anyway.
Looks like I gotta eat my words there. I've always done packshots like this in my Modo years. Just tried in Blender. Not fun at all. You can't place the gizmo at an edge and just rotate like a hinge in Blender's modeller. When I rotate axis-locked like usual, the main face also shifts. So do it like he does and figure out the fold-out shot later if asked by a client.
Edit: Rotating along an edge works by shift clicking on and edge (twice if part of a selection).
@@FrankJonen Neat idea, I'd probably do the same approach
@@novocai_ne BTW I meanwhile managed to actually do it in Blender. Not as bad an experience as my first try. I've also tried the bone armature approach but that wasn't successful yet (lots to learn about weights).
I apologize if that comment comes across as a bit too negative, because the video doesn't deserve that.
This is a well-done tutorial, well explained and resulting in great visuals. If that is what people are looking for, and are satisfied with... this is top-notch.
But personally, I'm more often looking for a way to recreate specific effects _from scratch._ Vintage presentation, physical imperfections, or, like here, shrinkwarp.
And it is just so extremely disappointing when you find something that looks really great, and might just be something you are looking for... and the presented method is "Go on the internet and find an image that has what you need."
Not negative at all! I can explain why I took this route:
When I was figuring out how to achieve this effect, I explored multiple options - I started with sculpting attempts (turned out to be very finnicky & not very fun to work on for me, let alone the average viewer), I also did some research on how I could create textures like this digitally, but nothing that I tried was convincing or "real-looking" enough. The analog way people make textures like this is with a setup that includes shrinkwrap film, a heat gun, impulse sealer and a large sheet of glass IIRC, (which was out of my budget for a video like this =D).
I'm sure there's a better way to achieve this look in blender, it's not perfect (and from scratch!) but I had spent a lot of time trying to get it to look how I want, and was getting really fatigued after multiple complicated shader experiments, etc etc. I ended up on this method because it was fast, easy to understand for the average viewer and figured if people wanted to make it from scratch, they could analyze my textures I supplied and figure out the best way for them to make something similar.

Yves Tumor Good Choice
great album and great cover art
i cant insert face. when i hit " I " it only make insert at top and bottom but not 2 sides :'(
hm thats weird. if you're talking about 1:14 you should only be selecting the one side on the right for your opening. you can send me an email or dm me on instagram if you still can't seem to figure it out
Good! But why not using a normal map instead a roughness? Thank you!
I tried converting the textures to a normal map but couldn’t get them to look good. Tried bump map too but that was just too bumpy and didn’t look like wrinkles at all. But if you figure out how to do this with a normal map I’d love to know
I made everything exactly the same but for some reason the shrinkwrap is not transparent, I can't see my vinyl and I don't know why, I don't even know how to google it :(
bro I'm so dumb I've been on EEVEE... If you have this just go to cycles
I'm getting an error when doingthe grid fill where it says "loops not connected by wire/boundary edges"
hm sounds like a geometry error, try remaking it from scratch, if you still get the same error you can send me the project file on discord
I have troubles with the UV editing not showing up the right way in viewport. Its seems like its not scaled as in UV editing. Can anyone help? Btw, thank you for doing the tutorial! :)
hm don’t quite understand what you mean, but you can send an image/video to my instagram or discord and i’ll take a look whenever i get a chance 🙏
@@novocai_ne Thanks! :)
When I open uv editing, the image that I put in shading does not appear, and when I select the face and go to perimeter, it selects the entire object
I'm Brazilian so I had to use the translator, I hope you understand
- there should be a button on the top of your uv editing workflow that lets you pick the image
- if perimeter selection doesn’t work for some reason you should be able to select it manually or with the select more function
if you have any other questions or if i didn’t understand something correctly you can send me a screenshot on instagram or discord 🙂
What shortcut for change view camera sir?
tilde key, right next to esc key
Tq I make a good vinly one,Tq for your knowledge
@@novocai_ne
but how to make wrinkles a lot more intense?
play with color ramp, hsv and lights
