The government is getting closer to the people to decide now. Going forward, I am quite sure local government elections will be taken more seriously by political parties and the people. For the first time, the court has done the right thing. Let's not forget that this was possible simply because the president was willing. This will prove to all Nigerians that when the right things and steps are taking the society moves ffwd. They know what is right but hate to do it cuz of selfish interest. As an obedient I am happy for this move.
What about the legitimacy of the LG? The states INEC or States Electoral Commission are still under the State Governors influence which would still conduct the LG elections nationwide which are always manipulated by the state Governors or the political in power at the state level. So indirectly this ruling by the Supreme Court would still not solve the issue with the LG autonomy! If Governors and the ruling political parties pick the candidates for LG chairmen, they would be bound to follow the Governors instructions even with respect to finances! So I think the solution is that main INEC at the federal should be conducting LG elections which the state governors will not be able to influence and this means that National Assembly would have to amend the electoral act. This also means that we still have a long way to go and this is not the end of this matter so the National Assembly still have big role to play to bring a lasting solution to this LG automomy case If not we are still deceiving ourselves and the Supreme Court judgements would more or less won't be effective and will not achieve the intended goals and objectives in the long run
One big step in the right direction, but FG should go further to make laws that a LG chairmen should be elected and he should have 4 years tenure just like the Governor...if not Governors will find a way to control the resources of LG by appointing caretaker chairmen whom they can easily remote control!!

Whatever .... Whenever something good happens just commend it. You don't have to read meaning to everything. The truth is, is it a good development or not? If it is good, then commend it. Every local government can develop faster rather than the state government having control of everything at the center and hindering progress to the grassroots. A governor can take control of the funds and develop his own area, leaving other areas in the state undeveloped. Take the case of Kaduna for example, where southern Kaduna was marginalized by previous governors. Another thing that people didn't take note is, it is a kind of restructuring. Decentralisation of public fund!!! Restructuring has commenced in a way and it's gradual. Don't just read meaning to everything. Even if the motive is 2027 as you opined, at least it is benefiting grassroot development. The.only issue here is, we hope the local government chairmen would not misbehave.
