You asked for it, you got it! Here is a theory on Jim Henson's The Labyrinth from 1986! Today I'm looking into Jareth's motives within the Toby/Jareth/Sarah connection arc.
I kindly request that you accept this as a MOVIE theory and not angrily post about obscure comics or long-forgotten books that gave a backstory written by someone who once thought about Jim Henson. That's all technically unofficial expanded universe, as Jim Henson isn't the one writing those stories. Henson had the ability to include everything he wanted in his movies, and while the expanded universe may be very interesting, the movie is already it's own completed work - extra reading homework is not required. :)

Even as a kid, I never viewed Jareth as a villain.
Ditto
ikr...thats david bowie playing jareth...
Me neither, I just saw him as cute 😂
Same!

There’s actually a comic that explains Jareth’s background. Basically his mother had to run the labyrinth to save him because his own father wished him away, but she failed so Jareth became the Goblin King. Jareth did also kind keep his mother in some kind of dream world like the one we saw in the original movie when Sarah ate the peach. And the manga Return to the Labyrinth explains that Jareth wanted Toby to stay as his heir and become the next Goblin King. It’s also explained there that Jareth fell in love with Sarah when she ran the Labyrinth and after many years is still in love with her, although it’s unclear if they ever actually get together.
They dont
@@shooshatowers8059 lol what a simp
Where can I find this comic
I always assumed it was a cycle with the Labyrinth. That Jareth must have been trapped here previously
That’s one good idea but I had my idea that neither parent wanted him and wished him away. And just when social workers come for him, he is gone and became king of the goblins.
Jareth is actually a Fae according to Jim Henson's. Goblins are a sub type of Faery, and due to Jareths behavior (kidnapping children mainly, something Fae would do to naughty children) also gives us that clue. Also the fact when Sarah ate the peach we can get this as well as it is said the food of the Fae is enchanting and she went into a whole wonder dream thing and forgot herself after wards as it is said that if you eat the food of the Fae you will become part of their land and be held their forever.
Moonlight cosplay and exploration I'd heard that too. this theory is an intriguing alternative, but Jareth strikes me as very much a Fae creature. his exotic features (I'm half convinced the amazing David Bowie was supernatural himself), his "blue and orange" morality, and of course his powers all suggest he's not human. I guess those could've all been given to him by the previous GK, but it makes more sense that he was born with them
AshErika Michaela it's actually confirmed he is a Fae in the sequel which takes place in the form of a manga/comic book :3
Moonlight cosplay and exploration I'd heard of the manga, but I've never found it around here 😊 time for Amazon, I guess
Yes and in Chinese mythology peaches are the gift of immortality also the story makes reference to the Immortal 8 a group of immortal beings which in western culture seemingly act as character archetypes. A princess, an evil stepmother and her son, a beggar in disguise ... stop me when i strike a chord 😎
I feel like Jareth shapes his image around Sarah's late mother's ex-love/costar before her father (who we see in photos). Likely, Sarah idolizes her late mother and emulates her as an actress and has fantasized about sharing her own "on stage kiss" with this Jareth; perhaps, Jareth _was_ that man, but more likely he took that form as it was most pleasing to Sarah and he wanted to court her.
Sarah was also abandoned by her mother (if I remember correctly she left to become an actress) so that too could bind them.
I thought the mother died and her father and step mother don't give her enough attention and that's why she hated Toby.
Yes! And Sarah tries to put herself into her mother’s world in her fantasy by putting them on the mirror, so they can appear together. That’s why she’s putting the pictures away at the end of the movie. The fantasy isn’t real. Her mom left her.
Weird thing: the actor playing Sarah’s stepdad in the pictures is DAVID BOWIE.
I'm of the opinion that Jareth is a legitimate fae. His powers are in line with some forms of the Fair Folk and if there's one thing I've learned about the fae, be careful what you wish for.
yea. puck from gargoyles is a HUGE example of this.
In various myth though, children were abducted by the fae into the Otherworld, and the longer they remained the more the Otherworld imprinted on them -- turning them into fae as well.
I'M OBSESSED WITH THIS MOVIE AND I MISS DAVID BOWIE 😢
I know! He was so much fun as a celebrity!
Me too...
DAVID BOWIE FOREVERRRR
rip david
I refuse to believe he’s gone, I’d rather believe he’s just returned back to the labyrinth.
I think that Jareth
really wants Sarah to rescue both him and the baby that's my theory what do you think
Omg I need to write this as a fanfic like..
Jareth: wait!
Sarah: ..? * slightly annoyed and tbh just done with his shit *
Jareth: take me to your world.
Sarah: wait what-
Jareth: please? * puppy dog eyes * I'll help take care of Toby. I wont steal kids anymore. You've got a mean teacher? I'll take care of it, need a friend? Hey, I exist, I'll be your friend-
Sarah: you serious..?!
Jareth: yeah.
Sarah: oh. Ok cool.
* woosh boosh they're back *
*turns out Jareth is actually younger than in the labyrinth and its just that time moved quicker in the labyrinth *
*_#PLOTTWISTANDPOSSIBLESHIPPINGFEATURINGTOBYASTHEYOUNGERBROTHERBECAUSETHATSJUSTTOBY_*
@@StabThorCom did you actually make this a fic because if so say
You've got a great idea. I think he's kind of lonely in the labyrinth.
I've always seen Jareth as some sort of a Fae, not a human. But I absolutely agree that he is definitely lonely...and would want Sarah to stay by his side - he says as much, actually...
She saw Jareth as the man that broke up their family. She’s a child of divorce and her room is her sanctuary. Every clue is in front of you and towards the end, after she leaves the baby in the crib, she goes back to her room. There she starts putting away things that made up that story, including the picture with her mom and Jareth. That’s when Ludo tries to tell her goodbye because she’s slowly moving on. And she says she’ll still need them time to time to cope and she never forget about them. Pretty deep stuff that only figured out as an adult.
The whole abandonment with Jareth and his love for Sarah is very similar to The Phantom of the Opera (Erik) and his love for Christine!
Goblin king, goblin king! Take me far away with thee! I’ll love you *sobs*
The Goblin King comes from old german folklore. There have been many representations of the Goblin King (also known as the elf king, fairie king, king of the underground, etc...) but most of them believe that there is always a Goblin King but it isn't the same being throughout time. I.e. through some trickery the previous goblin king would trick a human into taking over his role, the human would transform into the new goblin king and be tied to the underworld, while the old goblin king would be finally free of his position. The goblin king is in charge of keeping balance in the world. Most stories also portray him kidnapping a young maiden every winter (sometimes with the help of the wild hunt, another German folklore) and marrying her. Her life feeds the world above as it transitions into Spring...and she slowly dies in the underworld. Often these stories also mention "Goblin Fruit", and the Goblin king will use pieces of fruit (which are scarce/impossible to get in winter) to lure the maiden. This is often a glamour and as soon as she takes a bite she sees that it is rotten. The theme of goblin fruit is also used in the underground and any human who eats of the fruit will be stuck in the underground forever.
All in all, Jim Henson and George Lucas did a fantastic job incorporating just enough of these details! And your theory was pretty close without knowing the German backstory of the folklore.
6:18 I think time definitely does work differently in the labyrinth. If I'm remembering the movie correctly, even though Sarah is in there for about 13 hours, it's like no time has passed when she returns home with Toby.
Five hours, her time (7pm-midnight) equaled nine hours Labyrinth time (Jareth took away four hours in the Oubliette tunnels). So that’s as far as we get as far as facts. Also it’s night when she leaves but then the sun is rising when she gets to the Labyrinth. And Sir Didymus says they should “reach the castle well before day” even though it is still pretty much day when he says it, so that line always confused me. But yeah, somehow time works differently there... maybe however Jareth wants
Makes sense on the time difference. I remember reading The Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe. The time that Lucy spent in Narnia was hours. But when she came back to England through the wardrobe it was like no time has passed at all.
Time does go by in her works, remember when her parents came back home from their night out?
The Fangirl. When Jareth the goblin king tells Sarah that her baby brother will become one of us forever, He means that the baby brother is going to become a Goblin and will trapped in the Labyrinth world Forever like how in folklore A Fairy steals a baby and then after the fairy has taken the baby back to the fairy world the baby is forever trapped in the fairy world with the fairies!
Nah Jareth was going to used Toby as an heir. Toby wasn't going to be a goblin, he was going to be the next goblin king
If I remember correctly Jareth is actually a fae, or fairy that only became the ‘goblin king’ by his own declaration after stumbling into the labyrinth. Then again, I believe this comes from the Manga not the movie so you could consider them different material.
CandyFlossGum there's a manga?!
Krista there is a manga dome by toko pop amd am other comic based more off of the movie
Cheshires Secret oh my goooooosh I'm excited I'm gonna look it up
It’s called return to the Labrinth, and features Toby as late teen returning to the Labrynth and Jarroth leaving. The Labrynth was made to protect him and the goblins from other powerful beings from beyond the goblin city.the manga was sanctioned and is considered an official follow up.
The theory of the song within you was a plee. A plee to marry him. The reason why was because his heart was at the center of the labyrinth and anyone got to the center won it. It's actually explained thoroughly in a manga created by the writer of the whole labyrinth world along side Jim Henson. It's actually a sequel to the movie we never got. It's called return to labyrinth. I think anyone who loves this movie should read it. P.s. I really like your theories fangirl
YOU HAVE CONFIRMED ALL OF MY THEORIES FOR THIS FILM YAAASSS
@Noname Yet I'm barely watching the 🎥.
There are so many comic adaptations that I don’t know where to start. They all look cool but I only have so much money and time 😭
This is my favorite movie and the songs 'Within You' and 'As the World Falls Down' are my all time favorite songs, I bought them on iTunes. Funny thing is the Labyrinth in the movie is not a labyrinth but a maze, lol 😂. Excellent video I like your ideas 💡
Miss Lissy I love those songs tooooo. I used the melody from As The World Falls Down in my recent music project at school and it got an A+ 😂😂
Same thing
I have always felt like the trash lady that tried to cover Sarah in her things was another young girl who wished for the same years before but just didn't make it, she fell for the fake room and slowly forgot who she was entirely and with that failure jareth no longer saw her as worthy to be his queen so he just leaves her there to go and find his 'true queen' which would be really sad because trash lady was right outside the gates so she would have almost made it if she hadn't cared more for her things.
I believe he loved Sara from how he acts towards her from the beginning plus stalking. But he formed a bond with Toby.
Also the book explains in a lot more detail
OMG I needed this 😁 I'm legit wearing a Dance Magic Dance hoodie with Jereth's face on it. Thank you love!! Keep up the good work!!!!!!!
Hey someone else in this comments sections has the same sweater on today too! :)
The Fangirl I NEED TO FIND THIS HUMAN AND BEFRIEND THEM
@@auraatramdom9980 SAME
Actually, I always thought that that was the case. However, I also think that he may have loved Sarah for the whole time. Why else were there Goblins just sitting there waiting for her to say something. He might have seen one of the many times that she read the play and become curious about her first then fallen in love with her and would have been willing to give her anything she wanted. In watching her he would have known how unhappy she was in her home life and set the goblins to watch for her eventual call to use as an opening to get to her
The only big part I think you’re missing is the fact that the goblin king is in most of the pictures with Sarah’s mother (newspaper articles around Sarah’s mirror). This always alluded to me that Jareths fascination with Sarah lies at the fact he could not be with her mother
For a long time I figured Jareth is Sarah's shadow self. She went thru the labrynth of her own mind to save Toby from her own anger at being burdened with him. She discovered herself thru the labrynth as well as realized she loves Toby. Jareth's presence stays even after the labrynth because shadow selves shift but never completely go away.
RIP David Bowie
This movie is my favorite! That dance from the creatures that take off their heads still terrifies me as a young adult.
I first saw this movie a few years ago as an adult and I was like "WHAT IS GOING ON?!" the entire movie, lol. All my friends who grew up on it just go with the flow of the story, but I wanted answers!
The Fangirl I know right. If you ever do another video of the movie can you take a look at the junk collector creatures. I've always had a wacky thought of perhaps they're what happens if people failed to retrieve the babies. Forever forced to keep their past junk with them. When Sara was reminiscing on all her childhood belongings the creature kept piling the belongings on her. Like she was making Sara into one of them. It was done so causally it made me wonder.
Mr. Hat same here
I was told once that all the goblins are actually other "Tobys" that Jareth had taken and their respective "Sarahs" failed to rescue their child that was taken. Nice job on your ideas for Jareth's backstory!
Rest in piece David Bowie, really really miss you. Also wish I would've gotten to see you in concert. See you in the stars.. 😭
YEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS THIS IS MY FAVORITE MOVIE. I'm literally wearing a dance magic sweatshirt right now
JadieRae I'm wearing the same hoddie NICE TO MEET YOU
He's the archetype of the animus and part of Sarah's subconscious and awakening adulthood. She's on the border between childhood and playing with dolls and the awaking sexuality with first falling in love with a mighty dark prince or something like that. 😆
Any age difference makes sense with the shown time control that the Goblin King seems to have.
I literally just got here and I immedeatly clicked "like" because LABYRINTH AND DAVID BOWIE WOOO
Haha, me too...
IKR YAAASSSS
This is a very interesting theory. I always had an feeling that Jareth cared more about Sarah than he let on. I think I wrote a fanfic about it a few years ago... hmm...
Could it be possible that he may also have a thing for women who look like Sarah? Maybe in his previous escapades as the Goblin King, each of the children he kidnaps are because of women like sarah? I don't know, it's just a thought. I may be overthinking it, but that's your job - not mine!
lol, don't take my job! No, you totally can, there's enough crazy over-thinking room for all of us! But, hmmm, I haven't really thought about the idea of Jareth obsessing over other girls - but it is really possible since his background is so vague.
I don't remember where the idea came from, maybe a video. I'll have to see if I can find it for you to check out. I do remember that it made me rethink the entire story! Especially the ballroom scene and everything involving Hoggle.
You had me until fanfic
@@the_skeleton_boy6501 well that’s a bit rude. I think the rest of the comment holds merit
I’m totally with you on the unrequited love part of the theory.
I also have always thought of "Within You" as a rescue-me song. Great video! :D
That song and the Ballroom scene is my for-sure proof that Jareth had fallen in love with Sarah during the movie.
i used to love this movie as a child!
I love the labyrinth and your take on it. This is why I love you channel. I don't think this far into movies. And I LOVE to hear your thoughts.
Labyrinth was a movie I hated at first because it didn't make any sense to me - I couldn't handle just going with it, so this is where I ended up lol. Thanks for being here
I wish David Bowie made a sequel to this😢
Love that you did a video on this movie! My close friends showed me this movie when I was 9, and I’ve been a fan since, 10 + years later. Always enjoy your videos and theories. Can’t wait to see more. 😁
Jareth is not a human, true, but he is actually a Fae:) so he doesn’t need to have goblin nose or anything ^^ and to be faaaair, his ears are never actually shown really! So they could very well have a small elven/fae-esc point to them 😉 also, since Bowie had a sort of natural point to his teeth, that gave Jareth another unique and Fae like physical design to his character! 🥰
My oldest son is reading Ready player one in school and he is really happy there is a movie being made.👍 I really like your theory on Jareth's back story!🌞
Thank you! And Ready Player one is a such a fun story, I hope your son loves it when he's finished! :)
When I first came to watch your videos, I was awed and intrigued how you said that you don't watch or read other people's theories before making your own, plus you also make theories on things that are not very in the loop with today's society and things that are quirky and amazing! I am SOO glad there is a person like you doing interesting and different things and I love every video you make
Aww, thank you for this comment! It can get so discouraging/frustrating between UA-cam's ever-changing policies and trying to guess what topics will collect an audience, so comments like this REALLY make a difference!
I will always watch whatever you put out! You seem to do honest hard work behind your theories and you are great at delivering information, even if I don't agree to your theory, I admit that you do make good points. People typically send out the same type of thing over and over and the rest of society just recycles it, but I feel like I've come to my own little corner/nook where I can have fun with mystery and fantasy and...very interesting things to think about whenever I watch your videos. Sorry for rambling, but your work is very interesting and entertaining, and I will definitely stick around for more!
I’m so happy you made this video. I’ve had a similar idea years ago but not as thoroughly explained as yours. Great job!
Thank you for coming to watch, Heather!
At the start Sarah is wearing a similar dress to Jareth's mother in the Labyrinth Coronation comics
Edit: is it possible the play is similar to the events Jareth's mother went through but changed to seem like a normal play?
I feel that is true. I have thought of this myself. It makes perfect sense. I wonder how they are going to do this movie. I hope it doesn't flip because of not having Bowie in it or at least explain why he wanted them both to stay. Love is pain sometimes.
EEkkkkk I adore Labyrinth so much! I swear I know every word of that movie!
Jareth= Faery Rock Star Goblin King suffering from depression and being a lone Fae in a World of Goblins. Sarah simply acts as a mirror for his own frustration and self pity, and in her he sees his own loneliness and stagnation personified. Jareth is by far one the most well intentioned 'bad guys' I have ever seen.
OMG I literally shrieked when I saw my notification!!! I love you and labyrinth so its the perfect combo 😂❤️
Love you too!
The Fangirl Yesss!! Definitely do that! There are not enough labyrinth theories on the Internet 😂
My theory on Jared is that he the representation of Satan based on the dailouges exchange between Sarah n goblin king.
I really like Sarah 's words "you have No power over me" & boom the illusion brakes.
Goblin King is an old german folklore. The Goblin King is the ruler of the underground and Fae folk. So, yes, in a Christian mindset it would be similar to the role of satan in hell. But this was pagan folklore, and the purpose of the underground wasn't to punish bad humans, but rather is the alternate world of magic and fae. In the German folklore the Goblin King would lure a maiden to the underground once every winter, often enticing her with a piece of fruit (they would be impossible to find in old Germany in the winter) and then he would marry the maiden and her life force fed the world above as it transitioned from winter to spring, as she died the world would turn to autumn and then the cycle continued. If no maiden sacrificed her life, the world above would be pitched into a never ending winter and the veil between the world above and the underground would become thin, allowing the goblins and fae folk to cause mischief above.
Wow I ate that up, loved your psychological points on this movie, your so smart my mind honestly didnt even go that far. Love
This definitely makes the film more fun. Also makes me want to rewatch it, with this new mindset. Thank you.
I really like this theory. :) I honestly can't wait for the origin comics of Jareth coming out soon. I'm pretty stoked :)
Omg i always wondered all these things! Thanks for theorizing on this 💕
When I was in Middle School I went through a phase where I was really interested in goblins, fairies, trolls, ect and I read up about them in books at my library and according to them a common trait in mythical creatures is that they never think rationally and that they don't understand humans real well so Jareth having been raised by mythical creatures doesn't really have a rational way of thinking and he doesn't understand humans because he's not around them much which explains his unorthodox ways of "wooing" Sarah.
80's movies suggestions: Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Beetlejuice, The Lots Boys, Trading Places, Big Trouble in Little China, Big (Tom Hanks), They Live, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Adventures in Babysitting, Space Balls, The Breakfast Club, Die Hard, Heathers, Aliens, The Guardian (this is a 1990 horror film but the tree woman can be theorized on), Ghostbusters.
ua-cam.com/video/THRn3GQD20s/v-deo.html
I've done 3 or 4 Aliens videos already, so I will probably stay off those for a while, but great suggestions! I love Roger Rabbit, and I am currently trying to pull something from Heathers (but it's so crazy, I'm struggling!). I'll add all these others titles to my list of see-if-you-find-anything movies to watch. :)
Thanks. I'll check out Heaters again and see if anything pops out at me. Glad you gave my list a look and take care. Roger Rabit is great.
Space Balls ❤️
Wow. That makes the movie much more interesting. I love your theories)
Thank you!
Of all the theories ive heard on this movie, this one is by far the best.
I am currently working on a story that continues on right after the movie. I don't think Jareth's predecessor is dead; he was arrested, and locked up for unspeakable crimes. There's a lot more to it than that, but still working on it.
Wonderful upload. I love this movie, total favorite. That worm at the beginning of the labyrinth.lol
This movie is worth more videos.
Great explanation, I used to watch this with my baby brother and sister on VHS in the 90s. We would rewind it and watch it again 5 times lol. I never understood these grown up elements of the plot, which you eloquently assisted. So much potential there for a sequel. Maybe Jareth and Sarah become friends and fight a new nemesis within the labrynth world. However the time has probably passed. A modern day CGI thing would probably suck.
You explained everything very well even if its just a theory it really makes sense! Good job 👏
Thank you 💖
That literally takes a great film and makes it amazing. Great vid !
It's David Bowie in the pictures with Sarah's mom. The official word from Henson Co is that there is no information left on why that shoot happened, but in the novelization the man is named as Jeremy, an actor who was involved with Sarah's mom.
I always thought Jareth was always watching her plays and every move in owl form-
Is that just me?
3:27 the goblin mask in the dark tunnel is Jareth's real goblin feature, David Bowie is a Glammour spell. To boot, David Bowie is Sarah's projection of the man she wants.
Clicked for Jareth, stayed for the theory. I agree with your theory, it makes total sense and it confirms what I thought - that Jareth fell in love with Sarah.
Great video ☺
Labyrinth: Coronation does tell that he actually was wished away and was a human child, I’m not giving any more spoilers but it was nice how you got 2 theories right. 😄♥️
The goblins are children who were never saved. The old hags in the junk yard scene are people who went off to rescue the children but were caused to forget what they were really doing because of Jareth's crystals.
Think you've hit the mark on this one...it's a deeper story than just a muppet fantasy.
I've read that goblins are mischievous creatures that wizards would often try to control and make as a sort of henchman. That being said, I believe that Jareth was a wizard who either inherited or built up the goblin city. Feeling lonely he found a girl who seemed to act refined when she was playing out the story and interested him. I'm sure Jareth must have felt even more lonely being different from the goblins so Sarah looking similar to his form convinced him even more. He didn't seem the best at confessing to her because he probably grew up always getting what he wanted.
Great movie. Really enjoy your theory on the labyrinth movie. I'm glad I watched your video and loved your theory. So I subscribed. Thanks again for your take on this great movie. RIP David Bowie
I do believe that Jareth is in fact a human from the 'real world' too. in the music video of 'Underground' we see him discover the underground (which the labyrinth is part of) as he leaves a bar where he was performing.
he says that there was 'too much rejection' and 'no one can blame you for walking away'. it sounds like the standard lines from a break up song, but what if it's something he directed to himself?
He felt rejected and unpleasant in the real world. rejected by maybe a lover, family, society.
And then he found the underground. in the clip, we see him travel the same journey as Sarah, and he then became the Goblin King.
BUT years later, something quite similar happened to Sarah. she too felt rejected in the same way he did. by her absent mother, by the rest of her family, she probably didn't fit in either (her stephmother said she'd like it if she'd have dates, so she was probably unpopular among her peers and didn't have people to hang around with)
and despite not having been there physically, she was having some kind of influence on the underground. because 'the Goblin King had fallen in love with her and had given her certain powers'.
Toby wasn't the next Goblin King. Sarah was. The Labyrinth is hers. her dream. her fantasy.
call to mind that upon meeting Hoggle, he said 'oh, it's you'. Hoggle KNEW who she was. why? because Jareth was gushing about her? (Hoggle's the only one who knew Jareth's name, and he was the only labyrinth inhabitant he ever spoke to directly, so maybe?
funny little side theory: Hoggle was the Goblin King before Jareth.)
or was it because her influence was known in the labyrinth? every creature she meets is obsessed with her, related to Jareth or not, so there must be some special connection between her and them. she is also capable to summon them to the real world.
so by controlling the next Goblin King, by frightening, wooing, confusing her, he tries to keep his power through her. He still has the power over the entire underground... but not over her.
with the words 'you have no power over me', she shows that Jareth is not the one in control anymore. Her kingdom is as great as his.
Thanks you for having an amazing discord channel so I had enough time to watch the movie before this theory came out!
Oh, I'm glad I finally found a way to use Discord for the viewers! :)
Read Labyrinth: Coronation. It explains why Jareth isn't a goblin.
In all honesty I think that Toby actually is Jareth. That whole statement on how Toby looks like Jareth and even gives Toby his name. Considering that time flows differently in the Labyrinth and the nature of Jareths powers that is. So in short, a time loop.
Well that's gross if he's in love with Sarah
I always thought Jareth was just supposed to be Sarah's childhood and immaturity and that The Labyrinth is about Sarah learning she has to grow up a little and help take care of her brother, and that her inner child is important (the puppets visit her at the end) but that its time to make room for more important things in life like her family.
The play was actually written by Sarah! :) Its in the novelisation of the film.
Love this theory and loved this film!
WOW!! You Turned my World Upside-down=Made 1of my favorite Movies Even Better!! Thank you! I am New/just Subscribed! {Happy/sad tears for Baby Jareth!}
Welcome to the FANily!
Just a side note that the lyrics for "Within You" say "I can'y live withIN you", not withOUT you. Hence the song title.
@The Fangirl I absolutely think your very right with all you said. And I got that impression from Within You as well because that makes absolute sense with that song. And I definitely found that song haunting as well not just because of how Jareth sings that song but also because of the looks he gives while singing the song.
I made to the end. I like your take on movies. You have good insight.
Cool theory, thanks for sharing!
Looks like David Bowie in the picture with her mother (on the mirror)... maybe he was in love with her mother and unfortunately she passed away. So he’s looking to fill that void and loneliness by taking her daughter (who looks just like her and has her vivid imagination) for himself and Toby as his own... 🤷🏽♀️
I always thought Jareth was Toby in an alternate goblin time structure.
Great job!
THIS BROKE MY HEART IN A WEIRD BEAUTIFUL WAY.
There are graphic novels out now about his back story that he really was wished away by his father and his mother tried saving him from the owl king in the labyrinth
Great, plausible theory for a wonderful character and movie! Like a lot of antiheroes, Jareth gets a bad rep these days. It was a pleasure listening to someone who understood, and empathized with, his sorrow and broken heart, instead of the typical myopic analysis from other UA-camrs, whose analysis of this film falls into three categories: a) "Dude, he's such an evil villain dude" b) "Eww, he's sooo problematic" or c) "His pants are tight tee hee hee." I love how you tied Sarah's mom into it in a very sad, yet not creepy, way. Excellent work! Have a sub!
Great explanation! 👍
You're well spoken. Very clear. I liked this a lot. My first video of yours. Liked and subscribed
Welcome to the FANily! I'm so happy you liked this video (I have another Labyrinth video and quite a few other 80s movies on the channel too). 😀
Although Henson's backstory for Jareth may be that he's a fae, I love your theory so much more. It's much deeper and the connection he has with Sarah and Toby through your theory is so much stronger and makes a lot of sense.
I agree with everything you just said. Me and my friend figured alot of this out. It's nice to finally find a youtuber with the same brain as me. Oh, and I made it to the end.
Made it to the end! Hey this video was made or year ago but I’m still saying it. Looking at your channel I get the feeling it’s going to be addictive, lol .
OMG I RECENTLY GOT BACK INTO THIS MOVIE! OMG I LOVE U TO MUCH!
Is the Labyrinth Real video will be out in the next few weeks! 🤗
The Fangirl oh yasss! Make sure to check her room like almost everyone in the Labrynth is there. You even have to examine things very closely to notice stuff!
I like your take on it!
Seems well thought through great job subscribed
Wow…they need to hire you on as a consultant and reboot Labyrinth into a hella deep trilogy!!
I'd never considered a real backstory of any kind, I took it all as allegory. What you presented is pretty cool, and and a lot to the story...and even the allegory (now that I think about it)! :)
Can you do a theory where you talk about if Sarah stayed with jereth or forgot about toby
