The new Paramount Plus movie "Beavis and Butt-Head Do The Universe" was a return for Mike Judge's classic characters after a long hiatus. Here's my review video! And in a world of nostalgia-baiting, there wasn't much nostalgia! Which means these characters are ready for a new audience. I can't wait to see what else they have to offer, but time to talk about the movie!

When Beavis went "Boi-oi-oing!" after giving his speech that made people cry, I laughed so hard. I still think Smart Beavis and Smart Butthead should have put the portal at Lake Titicaca instead of Mount Everest.

@Stefano Pavone Actually, the reboot in 2011 was actually pretty good in terms of quality but what doomed it was that the MTV audience at that time had changed. It was mostly teen girls and young women, which was definitely not the audience for Beavis and Butthead. I will gladly die on the hill that the 2011 reboot was great.

I have a wonderfully awful idea for how the series could go from here: In 2022 Stuart is now the principal of Highland High School and having Beavis and Butthead as his students causes him to start shaking like McVicker.

This was the funniest movie I've seen in over a decade, by FAR and I went in with lukewarm expectations. I was laughing so hard at times that I nearly suffocated myself and my wife (who was also laughing her ass off) kept worrying about me. I mean, we had some edibles but we've done the same thing many times and only Super Troopers, Kung Pao:Enter the Fist, and Napoleon Dynamite came close.
An excellent way to enjoy the film, my friend! Also, great choices for other top comedy movies! I cannot wait for the new series of the show to start

I like it how this movie was basically an excuse to bring the characters into modern times so that they could continue the show with a new season but now on Paramount+ lol

As much as I love this movie, my only question after seeing is what happened to the other characters?! Are they old? Are they dead?! I know Daria is alive afterwards since she’s also coming back.
Wife and I have been discussing that, too. I believe they left them out of the movie to help it be more of a stand-alone piece to attempt at grasping for a new audience. Then once the new series of the show kicks off, we’ll get answers to those questions. I’m so hoping that Stewart is still a doormat they can mess with, just with children.

@@KylerWulff I think Mike Judge just disregards her own series in his canon. He had no involvement with it, so from his perspective it may as well be fanfiction.
But if you really wanna stretch it, maybe Daria left the town after the events of the movie.
I always get excited when Beavis eats candy( this time pills) and gets in Cornholio mode
I wonder if either Beavis is invincible, or if that guy in the holding cell just had sugar pills cuz that boy should have been dead after all those narcs
Amazing movie. Just as hilarious as it was in the 90's, and there were some sweet moments with Beavis that were genuinely heartwarming. Will probably watch it multiple times, and looking forward to the reboot series.

Surprised Mike Judge can still do the voices
I’m not, but I only say that because the voices are of lower register. If they were higher pitched, I might be more shocked, but he started the show as a fully matured adult, so he was probably wise in choosing voices that wouldn’t ever be difficult to pull off.
Then again, I was F-ing surprised the first time I found out Beavis and Butthead were the same dude, so voice acting is magic.
They sounds little different..especially Cornholio. I miss old Cornholio texts..titikaka nikaragua…
If Beavis and Butt-Head have a revival mini series, they could have a segment where they react to music videos on UA-cam and it could be part of them having a reaction series on UA-cam
They would have to react to reaction content and talk about how the idea of reacting to things sucks

Didn’t think it would be as good as it was but I thought it was fantastic. First one is still clearly better but for picking the series up all these years later and not miss a beat is wonderful
Agree with this. First is better, but it’s shocking how well the team of this movie kept the momentum of the show after all these years.

I remember getting this feeling when I was rewatching the Jimmy Neutron movie and on a whim saw the license plate for his little rocketship.
I forgot to ask: where is the license plate from?
Well to correct myself it was actually Goddard's license plate during the fight with the Yolkian king's spaceship, and it was from Texas. It showed up on screen so quickly I had to rewind it just to be sure.
At the end I love the beavis with buttheads face and butthead with beavis's face

Interestingly they are both drawn with the usual Beavis'es half-profile or cheated angle, instead of one of them looking straight into the camera.
I think a good callback without being too cheesy would’ve been if they ran into the same guys they were locked up with in the Scared Straight episode.
It also would’ve been funny if the college professor was Daria.
I hope they do more with the pre-established characters in the new show
Interesting thought, but Daria wouldn't teach wokeist "gender theory" classes. She's far too smart for that. Her skeptical mind would have recognized the gaping absences of logic in wokeist ideology early on. She's a feminist, so to speak, but she definitely ain't woke.

@@NotMeNaNaNa I think they’re just waiting to use old characters for the show since watching a movie is more accessible to newer audiences if it’s a standalone experience (even if Marvel ignores that fact). Hope the new show is chalk full of showing up where old characters are now.

It pretty much seems like I don't need to watch the movie after this review.
At the time, I thought Beavis & Butthead was crude and tedious. I thought King of the Hill was dull and repetitive, if warm hearted. Office space was mostly solid. Idiocracy is genius. Silicon Valley also top tier. Mike's generally been on an upward trajectory. It'd be interesting to see him return to his juvenile characters with the benefit of the more nuanced and clever humour he's grown into.
Heh, I did go over the whole plot of the movie, but I guess that because comedy movie’s are much more about the journey than where you end up. There’s plenty of hilarious jokes I couldn’t fit in my vid
I just found out about b&b a month ago and this show is awesome lmao it was so perfect too because I eventually found out that they made a new movie and I was so surprised but yeah do the universe is really good. I was also surprised how old the show was like damn

Also as a corrections officer I found the fact that the inmates demanding TP was accurate and freaking hilarious because some of them do tend to hoard toilet paper screwing over the other inmates when they ran out. When the CERT team showed up. I was like omg I’m just picturing having to take down cornholio in a cell extraction 😂

This is a movie that DESERVES a proper theatrical release! They could have earned a killing just from all the groups of men in their 30s and 40s who will use this film as an excuse to meet up with the Bros and let their nostalgic inner childishness out for an hour and a half... 🤣🤣🤣

I'm so glad about the Daria cameo. Ot kind of affirms that the story is a giant 'what if' scenario which happens before Daria moves away.
What's unusual is that Daria and her family had already moved from Highland by the time (1998) of this movie. She'd already been living in Lawndale for about a year, which makes me wonder why she was suddenly back in Highland. *And* she was back to wearing the same clothes she wore in B&B, rather than the green top she always wore on _Daria_ .

Im 48 and remember them from on MTV all the way back to 1991 and the movie Do America i have it on DVD first and second season on dvd as well. If this is for the next generation, then i was the first generation that goes back to the early 90s.i was in 8th grade. Its been a long time since they did another movie. Do America was in 1996.

I live in the Clear Lake area of Houston TX. Was a real treat to see Johnson Space Center & Galveston TX in this movie. I grew up on Beavis and Butt-Head. This movie was awesome but not as good as the original movie. Stoked for the new season this August!
Houston here, too~ We are geography buddies! My only gripe was that Galveston’s water was not nearly murky enough to be accurate for me, ha ha. I enjoyed this movie a lot but I think I prefer the OG one too. I’m gonna do a vid comparing the two and ranking which is superior.

I do want to see the movie. I am just confused as to why now. I guess nostalgia sells. It at least follows the bevis and butthead theme. Unlike other nostalgia based movies. I am looking at you rescue rangers movie. You ruined my childhood. Like worse than the Mario bros movie and that is pretty low. Scraping the grime from the bottom of the barrel low. New bevis and butthead movie. You get a pass. Well done you maintained your nostalgia instead of trying to change it up and confuse everything. GG.
I agree, it’s strange as to why reboot now. Companies would definitely prefer to reboot an already popular Mike Judge property than take a risk letting him create a new show. He’s already got a Daria spinoff in the works and King of the Hill ran for SO long with fully developed characters. Beavis and Butthead being a hard comedy (meaning it never has a romantic/dramatic/sad moment - just jokes) makes it easier to just pick back up and not worry too hard about ruining the integrity of the original show.
SPEAKING OF RUINING INTEGRITY: Rescue Rangers. Didn’t even see it. Was skeptical, but then it was worse than I expected. Who was that movie for? Just throwing any and every possible cameo. Littered with pop culture jokes. And the two leads are just guys doing their normal voices. Why does Hollywood not give a hoot about voice actors? Pro voice actors always get overlooked for A-list film actors that delivery average performances. Look at Onward, too. Mario was never meant to be narrative entertainment, so I’m never shocked when shows/movies are hilarious stinkers.
Do the Universe stood on its own feet though. Very shocking given the climate nowadays, but just a testament to Mike Judge’s creative standards.
I came away from watching it as not a nostalgia play at all. The callbacks were placed very organically within the story as opposed to just writing a bunch of layups where you could see the reference coming a mile away. It was more so catching up with an old friend and realizing neither one of you has changed a bit . " ... yup , stuff still sucks ."

Uncommon opinion: I hated this movie.

@@BradleySmithUA-cam I'm a fan of Mike Judge and all of his work. Do America is the superior movie by a long shot. B&B were not in character in Do the Universe and there were too many missed opportunities. Not to mention the slapstick humor. It was almost as if this movie was inspired by Family Guy.
No human could withstand a kick to the groin that hard, let alone repeated kicks. No human could scream so loud and high that it breaks all the glass in a room. That whole science fair scene was not funny because it wasn't realistic and wasn't in B&B's style of humor.
Beavis showed altruism (also not in character) by saying they should try to win the science fair. I didn't like how the real estate guy gave details about Beavis' mom. TMI and a missed joke. In Do America, we met their fathers in a hilarious desert scene. In Do the Universe, some guy just talked. Also, a version of B&B scored at the end which is way out of character.
This movie will age badly.
@@raymondbd21 Hey, I appreciate you taking the time to explain some of your thoughts! I agree the science fair opening was especially weak. A lot of too many contrivances with the ball kicker and the glass breaking thing. When I rewatch both movies to compare, I’m gonna keep the slapstick comedy in mind. That was a good point, too.
And the scene at their home in the future was a bit lacking on punchlines or sight gags. I still don’t not like the movie myself tho!

The movie is decent I guess everything before it was written better and the animation is kind of uncanny. Looks like flash
