- At the time people didn’t know it but the 1960s for comics would bring new characters that would shape not just the future of comics but the entire world. Super heroes had fallen out of fashion but were just starting to come back. Monster and love stories that were once the top sellers, had started to wain. DC comics had just started to bring back an updated version of their golden age counterparts and they were selling very well. Over at Marvel they were still clinging to their monster and sci fi comics. But that was all about to change due to one man, Stan The Man Lee. He was going to quit Marvel after having worked for them for decades, but his wife told him before he leaves why not write the stories you want to write. So with his team of artists, called the Marvel Bullpen, they would start a renaissance in comics. They would no longer be 2nd fiddle to DC Comics, they would come out on top with these new characters and titles. Although technically this was the Silver Age in comic, the 1960s was the Marvel Age of Comics. So lets take a look at the Top 10 comics for investing from the 1960s.

3 years ago I had a choice to make between a CGC 2.0 AF 15 and a CGC 4.0 FF 1. I went back and forth a lot but in the end I went with Spidey. No regrets.
Both are great 👍
I think u made the better choice imo
@@ComicBookInvestments Yeah. The only reason I was eyeing the FF 1 was to flip down the road. I want to keep the AF15 forever.
@@DanSchawbel AF-15 >>>>> FF-1
Super dope video! Very informative and high production quality 👊 Big fan of these type of vids you do. Very appreciated
Great work on this video. Anyone who grew up in the silver and bronze age is going to recognize and appreciate these iconic characters. These are definitely on my grail list.
I remember watching those very early Thor, Hulk & Iron Man “cartoons”’in the 1970’s. Narrated by Stan himself. But they were just pictures of still characters on a comic page where the camera moved around the page & sound effects.
Loved this video Dave! Great job!
Thanks. Ya spent a lot of time editing this one
By far your best informative video, love the way you present them, keep up the great work.
Thanks. Lots of time and effort into this one
Dave you do fantastic work portraying these Comics and Artist 🎉
Terrific video! Thanks for putting it together.
Thanks for watching
Amazing Video great job 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Great job David, nice review...nice to own them all!
Wow that’s crazy you have them all. Good job
Been a collector on and off since the early 70’s but never owned a grail until about 3 months ago when I acquired an Avengers #1 and wouldn’t trade it now that I finally have it. It’s raw so I can read it and truly enjoy it.
Congrats. Ya keep that book
Great video. Love the content. Need to see more videos like this one. Maybe do the 70’s next. Thanks. 😎
I’ve done the 1970s already. Did they about 2 weeks ago
I'm glad you finished your album. These videos are awesome 👌🏻
Thank you. Ya I’m putting more time and effort into more videos
Great video and reference footage!
Glad you liked it!
@@ComicBookInvestments the amount of effort it takes to make these so engaging can be seen, kudos to you!
Great video Dave.
I got Avengers 1 last December just before Christmas, really liking the effort your putting in on these videos this year Dave 😊
It’s such a great cover!
Very cool, mine is low grade only a 1.8 but looks great, think I got it at the right time but not sure, it was restored to, I paid 750, what do you think bud, bad deal? I'm very happy with it n I bought it cause I really love the book so don't regret it, great cover
Keep doing these!
I purchased graded copies of 7 of the 10, excluding FF1, ASM1 (I already had AF-15) and TTA-27 (because I liked TTA-35 better) between 2009 and 2017, not as investments but because I liked them and I had read the different series since the early 1960's. I never imagined their values would increase to current levels and wouldn't be able to afford them now. I'll be passing them on to my grandkids.
This was cool, would like to see a DC version of this. With the new DC restart and James Gun looking to get in DC stuff.
Me too
I’m the video I say this was the marvel age because this is when marvel took off. But before the 60s it will all be mostly dc
If you want DC in the top 10 investments you have to look at the 1940s and 1950s.
I have a few. X-men 1, Daredevil 1, & ASM 1.
The Hulk & AF15 are my holy grails that I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to get, but a man can dream.
Dave great video bud. Who do you use for your editing now. Top notch
Yours is great too
I just use Final Cut and many hours of work 😂
The prob with putting your eggs in one basket for a collectible - not only is the market completely unregulated (unlike sticks, mutual funds & RE). Maybe invest in a small % after you have eliminated high interest debt & have a stable growth regulated package first. Never overpay for almost any comic book.
I saw what you did with the Avengers presentation with the Hulk vs. Thor. I forgive you, anyway. 😇 Still, great video.
I did that just for you. I was hoping you would notice 😂
@@ComicBookInvestments 😆
I agree these are investment books in those high grades. In low grades even mid grades these have gone down alot since just over a year. Now those were bad invest, ments if you bought them during the peak. the correction has hurt everyone that bought during that time.
Hey Dave I just found this video it’s awesome. Yes I had these books but I told you I gave up bartending more than 10 years ago so I sold off for income obviously. Well of that bunch I still have avengers 1 4.0 x-Men 1 7.0 amazing Spider-Man 1 6.5 amazing fantasy 15 6.0 and my other copy is 8.0 restored no trimming tales of suspense 39 8.5 . As always I love your videos and I believe watching your videos you had a Batman 1 3.5 and I believe you had Incredible Hulk 181 9.8. I said this many times even though the market is down it’s never a good time to sell as ETA Nick would say on UA-cam but when you need the money of course you have to sell you can’t take the books to your grave.
Ya I wish I had those books back. But it’s part of the business
It's always stated that Spidey was just a character thrown in a book that was to be cancelled. However, the bottom of the last page in AF 15 states that Spidey will continue his adventures in further AF issues. To quote: "Be sure to see the next issue of AMAZING FANTASY---for the further amazing exploits of Americas' most different teen-age idol---Spiderman!"
10/10 After completing my X-MEN run in the late 90’s, I concentrated on getting 1st appearances of characters before it became the norm.
That’s awesome. You got a lot of good books then
@@ComicBookInvestments Thanks. I have been posting some of the highlights on IG as a way of reconnecting with my collection.
Ive got all except jim83 (not a huge Thor fan). FF5 didnt make the list? I think its more pricey and popular than a few on this list. Fun video! Thanks
Me too but I just sold my Hulk 1
@@DanSchawbel oh no! I couldnt part with my hulk1 but i have been considering selling my DD1 or AV1or DS169. There are a few expensive golden age books i want. I love the cover of AV1 though.
I’m chasing a low grade AF15. I’ve been building my collection very slowly to hopefully one day trade it in for my grail. I’m finally up to a value of around $13000 (£11000). Can’t decide whether to keep adding smaller keys or just put the money aside? For example I’ve been offered a GSX1 3.5 SS (Stan Lee) for $2600?? Good deal?
A 6.5 ss Stan sold for about 3800 not long ago on mcs.
I bougt my amazing fantasy 15 back in 2008, paid 3500$ for it, its a 3.5-4.0 range, it was the last book i needed to have a complete run
Nice. Complete run of asm I’m assuming not a complete run of amazing fantasy. That would be a short run 😂
@@ComicBookInvestments yes i ment amazing spider-man. And keep on buying them, i have doubles triples and so fourth.
"An-ton, I'm drinking non-alcohol brewskie!"
Me: "That ants name is An-ton!"
Clever!
hahaha
Dave,is Eerie #1 the first horror comic? I been trying to find a copy .
I don’t think it’s the first horror books. Are u talking Warren or Avon published eerie 1?
@@ComicBookInvestments I was just trying to find the very first horror comic made but not really sure which one it is and if anyone knows it would be you.
@@ComicBookInvestments Avon publisher
Do you choose these books based on future potential for growth, or on growth that has already occurred? Sometimes books whose value hasn't risen as greatly have more room for growth, while books whose value has increased exponentially have less.
Incredible work you did here brother 👏! All grails!
Agree
Question with the movie Ant-man coming out would Secret Wars II also be a good investment because of its villain being a Kang variant.
Ehhhh. Not really. It would only be a short term thing at its best. Not a long term investment
I have all of those except for the hulk (never liked that book & thought since I was a kid that book was always way overpriced). Bear in mind that I bought many of them well over a decade ago (a few ~25 years back) and the best grade I own is TOS39 at 7.0. Worst is X-men 1 at 3.0.
How dare you 😂 hulk is the best one But I’m biased. Hulks my favorite.
I have two of these books.
👍👍
Dave, Great video! I have AF 15 and ASM 1 both in CGC 8.0 ! I used to have an X-Men 1 in CGC 9.2 and AF 15 in 4.5 and used them with cash to trade for my AF 15 8.0 over 13 years ago !!
wow 8.0 of af15, thats spendy
I would rank Dr. Strange ahead of ant man
Frank Miller started in Daredevil #158
Started as a artist. But started as a writer and artist in 168
I went to the Chicago Comic-Con back during the early 1980's. Literally every other dealer had at least two Daredevil #1s. It was ridiculously easy to find. The same with Hawkman #1 which there was a glut. My suggestion: Any of the lower run books in better condition. Like Brother Power the Geek, etc.. Ones which may have fallen through the cracks for most collections. Why? Well, just take a look at all those 1970's Romance comics. And let's not forget the huge jump in Night Nurse.
There are over 4k blue label Daredevil 1’s. It’s relatively common.
There might be more supply of dd1 but there is a huge demand for it. He was always a lesser marvel character up until frank Miller run. Then after he started to fade away until the Netflix show
Own 8 of the 10...
I’m at 5
Very good
That’s awesome. I think I got 5 of them as well.
Unfortunately it's the 2 Big Dogs I don't have...AF15 and Hulk1
Looking for AF 15 1.0 and ASM 1.8

Real hard to disagree with anything on this list.

Batman 181
FF 5
Vampirella 1

Daredevil 1
Will I be close?!
Well done me! Lol
Nice
Be dry close. Good job.
Yes FF5!
Be interesting to see if you think C-level unstable characters will hold these values over time post people forgetting about the films. Buried characters that bloomed based on FOMO people not being able to afford good better stable characters so they turn to junk bond level stuff.
Any DC book that held value before will hold value post Gunn’s DC run. Never throw money at an unknown book character based on a film or, worse, a tv show that wasn’t popular & stable in the market before multimedia events. Have people learned nothing from the marvel debacles on this very thing?
You’re making unfair comparisons on a handful of books that rose exponentially & trying to make it seem like comics are a better more stable “investment” than mutual funds or real estate overall. No one only bought those books. For the most part comics turn out to be poor “investments”. You’re playing with statistics and hand picking the best of an extreme minority of books & letting people think most of comics grow at these levels. A lot of people don’t have these books.
These are the best investment books. It’s the same as if you picked tried and true stocks. Blue chip stocks. There are tons of comics that won’t do well. Just like tons of stocks that don’t do well
I didn't do so well, I only have 5 of the top 10 silver age Marvel comics😭
Better than most
That’s really good
