    Hey My friend I found a great Lick over Giant Steps...what I think is the missing link is that we realy should play in paterns where the intervals match here is a great example that I found the study what I did after looking to you for 35 minutes in a row giantsteps playing with restrictions is this: Bmaj7arpeggio-Cmaj7(D7)-Gmaj7 Abmaj7 Ebmaj7- Cmaj7(Am7) D7(Ebmaj7) Gmaj7 Emaj7or Eminmaj7(F#7) this shape I found over C#m7 for instance upper tone D# than the other 8ths: (down)E-D#-E-G#-B D#E(goining up for Em9shape(over F#7)F#high tone G-F#(lower)G B D-resolving to Bmaj7 like D#(high) F#(lower) G# A# C# B A# B F# so my conclusion is play 16th over it till you are blue jsut in maj7 seven shapes keep the intervals the same at each chord, Play polyphonic I mean one melodie containing secretly to You got my Drill! So Have Fun with This! also it is important in giant Steps to write about 50 shapes that do this and than look how you improvise and sound afterwards...(You will sound Alien in the End!)

    Thank you always for the helpful videos sir!
    Do you have a video on soloing within one octave as you did early in this video? Your lines are still very melodic and I'd love to see more on this technique.

    Hey! Cool video!
    How do you decide which scales to use when you play melodically over the chords? Are you thinking in terms of modes of the major scale? If so, which/what do you use here?

    • @weeklypiano
      @weeklypiano  5 років тому

      oscar söderlund yes just the regular Ionian major scale over each of the 3 home keys (B, G, and Eb)

    It seems when you talk about planning you are in fact doing a series of tri tone subs? (Substituting the D for an Ab, etc)?

    i had long time ago oracticing on aebersold giant steps exactly the same experience....that the keys are most thing to focus on on higher tempis and rhe easy or easier aspect of Giant Steps is the fact that too much altered stuffnu better to leave out once I played it with some who tried to play the Giant steps scale likebhexatonic B DEb F Ff# A Bb it sounded rather weird alos he played him self out of the changes at the ending ofbhis solo this was actuallly a good and melodic pkayet...vit shit happens toball of us once in a while itnwas not that it was undoable because his timingbwas cool bitnjust youbheard he lost the correct changes while alteringvaweird ezperience....
