French Onion Soup Ramen
Ingredients
2 Tbsp butter
2 onions
1 pack instant ramen
¼ tsp salt
1 quart water
A very optional shot of liquor
½ cup any cheese you got
Black pepper to taste
1) Melt butter over medium-high heat in a large sauce pot. Thinly slice onions then add to butter along with salt and the seasoning packet from ramen. Stir and allow to cook down for about 20 minutes, until caramelized and slightly burnt.
2) If you got a shot of liquor you feel like giving up-any liquor, who cares?!?1-throw that in the pot and stir up all the flavor bits from the bottom of the pot. If you don’t have liquor (it’s about to be a long quarantine!) add the quart of water and stir.
3) Let boil for 10 minutes. Add ramen noodles to water, cover with a lid, and boil for an additional 2 minutes. Add soup and noodles to a bowl, grate any cheese you have on top and either broil or throw in the microwave until melted.

Ramen Cacio e Pepe
Ingredients
1 pack instant ramen
¼ cup pasta water
2 Tbsp butter
2 Tbsp parmesan cheese-
Many cracks of black pepper
1) Boil ramen and drain, reserving ½ cup of pasta water.
2) Add pasta water and butter to a large sautee pan and add ramen noodles. Add fresh cracked black pepper and half your parmesan cheese and sautee for 2 minutes, until sauce has slightly tightened up.
3) Serve on plate and garnish with more black pepper and the rest of your parm

Ramen Salad
Ingredients
1 cup chopped cabbage (or whatever you got!)
½ cup chopped onion (or whatever you got!)
½ cup chopped apple (or whatever you got!)
½ cup thawed frozen peas (or whatever you got!)
1 chicken ramen packet
1 ½ tsp mustard
1 Tbsp Vinegar
1 ½ Tbsp oil
1) Whisk together vinegar, mustard, seasoning packet, and oil in a mixing bowl. Add Chopped raw ramen noodles, sliced onion, cabbage, apples, peas (AND I CAN’T STRESS THIS ENOUGH-OR WHATEVER YOU GOT) and toss.
Love the practical nature of this. Rather than people giving us unrealistic shopping lists for the quarantine.

Once you have the video, it can be uploaded for the editors.
Even YT crews are normally 2-3 people minimum.
I appreciate how this is ACTUALLY a home recipe. Most people have ramen, onions, butter, water, and cheese.
Unlike many cooking shows that tell you how to cook from home and then whip out fresh thyme, a bottle of wine from northern Italy, and a cornish hen.

TOAST THE RAMEN FOR THE SALAD! Seriously, it gives it more crunch and adds a nutty flavor! Just spread on a sheet pan and bake just until very lighty brown. Thanks for this video, Josh! And God bless Ryan.
I also suggest to use beef ramen instead of chicken for the French onion ramen. I've been on lockdown for over a month in Korea so... I know.

We do that at a restaurant I work(Ed) at . We just put a bunch of butter on a grill and toast it. Tastes good. Almost like popcorn

I'm legit going to make these, I'm actually quarantined (I just got back from studying at Goethe Institut in Germany) and I find so much comfort in food. And I would classify myself as a home cook, but everytime i watch one of Josh's videos, even the ones that dont seem very educational, I learn so much and immediately apply it at home. So yer. Josh is rad, his energy is rad, I wish he was my dad. Or atleast like.... a cool uncle. I would like to highlight JCVs comment from nearly two years ago; this is a HOME RECIPE in its core, and really. This is one of the best episodes because it keeps the Josh Charm, yet, I can watch this, I can eat this. And I have literally sent this to people and they sent me pics of the food. This is important. This is one of the greatest cooking episodes from youtube. Super accessible, super funny, super well done.

Husband and I are on week 3 of not leaving the house and we've ran out of staples like fresh meat long ago. Getting creative with canned tuna and beans, dried pasta and easy to keep veggies like carrots and onions is very much appreciated.
I've lost my job for I think a month, so I'm glad I still have the podcast episode to listen to, and the future episodes.

I'm in the same boat with my job. I am a chef who caters very expensive weddings. Our governor shut us down last week, hopefully we can open back up mid April, but we have already had some cancelations beyond that. It's not looking good right now. :(

If you want more of a french onion soup flavor use beef ramen!
Full recipe: Egg, sesame oil, chili pepper/oil, bit of leftover chicken beef or shrimp if you can, and soy sauce.
Easiest way to make ramen amazing: sesame oil and soy sauce. Trust

Fish sauce is pretty great too, and oyster sauce

I have recently been adding a splash of red wine into my roast beef ramen broth. It is insane.
I made the French onion one for my boyfriend because he loves French onion soup. It was delicious and I ate a bunch before remembering that I’m allergic to onions and having to use my epipen.

Ramen, eggs, Tabasco, and a type of meat. That’s a whole ass feast.
i've tried good-quality jerky (or better biltong) boiled along with the ramen, maybe some dried onion and seaweed flakes, dehydrated cabbage, cheese and an egg (plus a dash of catsup) and it tastes amazing! and since i put the bottom few inches of each scallion in a glass of water w/ a little sugar n a sunny place, i ALWAYS have fresh scallion!

I like to boil ramen, then strain it. Chop up veggies while the ramen cools a bit, then add 1 egg per pack, veggies, seasoning (hot sauce if for just myself) and mix it all together. Then fry on a buttered skillet, put cheese in the middle and sliced ham or pepperoni, salami, etc. Then fold over like an omelette
I just eat the pan
Fun fact: onion bulbs are actually comprised of leaves and that’s why they have layers. They have roots too but that’s only the bottom part of the bulb not the entire bulb

I'm sorry, but that's when you communicate to make it more bearable. I'm quarantined in my apartment with my male roommate and boyfriend. We talk to each other about needing time alone and when to just not talk to each other.

Man- we’re on the same page Josh. I just recently cooked some Maruchan Creamy Chicken flavor using butter, yellow onions, garlic (sautée these in a pan).
Then ~2 cups chicken stock and some water, some leftover mixed wild rice, some pepper, a little salt, 3-4 drops of Tapatìo hot sauce, and a tablespoon of honey, and of course the ramen noodles. Stir occasionally and boil until you see fit (and the rice is warm).

I made the Ramen noodle French Onion soup and really enjoyed it! You were spot on with serving size and everything. A quick and easy way to change up the same ole’ chicken stuff I’ve been eating.

I used shredded cheese instead of parmesan turned out really well! Me and my friends had a ghetto cacio e pepe dinner party (all at our separate houses but still the dinner party spirit was there)
I tried the ramen Cacio E PePe. Idk if I did it wrong but it smells like rotten eggs and dog fart. It tastes how it smells.
