Vermithor or Cannibal - Is He as BIG as Vhagar?

- Is the dragon that was seen in episode 10 vermithor or the cannibal dragon. House of the dragon showed a lot of dragons in the season finale and a dragon battle where a smaller dragon was ripped to shreds by vhagar. So is the cannibal or vermithor able to defeat vhagar and are they as big or bigger than vhagar?
Daemon wouldn't go to the Cannibal in that situation. They need dragons for war so the last one he'd approach would be the one least likely to be useful.

yeah that's Vermithor...There would be no more Daemon if it was the Cannibal...he had no tolerance for people in general targaryen or not, not even other dragons.
also let me squash a some false information going around regarding the dragon sizes
firstly Vhagar is bigger than Cannibal, GRRM himself stated that she is the largest dragon during the war second only to Balarion, it seems people took the rumor the freefolk had that the Cannibal was on dragonstone before Aegon arrived in Westeros as a confirmed fact and now everyone seems to think he's the biggest dragon in the world, even some big youtube channels spread the false information. Also the showrunners themselves said she is the biggest at the time of the war ua-cam.com/video/lNCx7swCFLE/v-deo.html
Also Vermithor while he is the 2nd largest dragon after Vhagar during the war, he isnt the second oldest, Dreamfyre is actually older but is much smaller likely a result of being housed in the dragonpit for so long
Also if you turn on the subtitles it says Vermithor.

After Balerion Vhagar was the second largest dragon that is clearly told .. and cannibal was black in color while the dragon we saw was brown and wild dragon whose known to eat other dragons won't let anyone approach so easily
It's stated in the Books that Vhagar is the largest *Targaryen* dragon Cannibal is a wild dragon and it is specifically stated nobody was willing to get close enough to actually measure the Cannibal to see how big he was compared to Vhagar. We do know one thing for sure. The Targaryens themselves were too scared to try and take their largest dragons to fight the Cannibal to prevent him from eating their Dragons. Cannibal eating a lot of Dragon eggs and young dragons while living ON Dragonstone it would have been in the Targaryens interest to take Vhagar, Vermithor, or even Balerion to kill The Cannibal so that the very dangerous dragon won't attack any people or dragons again. But None of them were willing to take their dragons to face The Cannibal in fact Targaryens avoided him at all costs.
@@mouse3872 The Cannibal's specialty was killing other dragons, so it'd make sense that everyone and everything would try to steer clear, especially given its the oldest living dragon, and with age the dragons tend to be much larger than any younger ones. Another note would be that The Cannibal was lifelong training in fighting other dragons, and had a very strong diet for carnage.
@@mouse3872 that's a good point. It says a lot about size of cannibal if they won't even take balerion to stop him

The moments where we saw the Dragon screaming having an effect on Rhaenyra giving birth, and then the same visual effect being shown when Daemon locked eyes Vermithor... I'd say it was ALL to show that Daemon is truly a Dragon like Dany was
That has already been confirmed many times before in the show. Viserys once told that Daemon has Dragon's blood. Also in one of the episodes, Laena and Daemon were riding when Vhaegar spit fire on laena's command. And Daemon just went right through it without getting burnt.
I think it was rhaenyra giving birth affecting her dragon through the bond?
@@sandeepsingh-er8wr That is true but what about the burn scars on his neck from the war in the step stones? Fire does burn him.

It doesn't matter the size. Caraxes is more aggressive than Vhagar and he is half her size. Also, Aegon's dragon is described to be the same size as Syrax's, but he was more aggressive.
Which aegon?
@@rollins_op Aegon II
Yeah, people aren't thinking about all the many different variables, factors in dragon's battle power ... Caraxes has many other traits, most viewers are just ignorant to how much things like speed, agility, aggressiveness, intelligence matter in dragon's when it comes to fighting other dragons.
People hear "biggest dragon" and assume so much, the truth is Merexes can still take on Vhagar & heavily injure it, many grown adult dragons can, its just Vhagar has a better chance of winning & is the strongest in a clean 1vs1. Think the mountain from GoT and all the other fighters like Oberyn, Brienne of Tarth, the hound, Jaime Lannister etc, the mountain is Vhagar but all the other fighters can still hold their own, and even the mountain wouldn't want to risk his life fighting tougher opponents for no reason at all. However the mountain's owners, Tywin & Cersei lannister knew the mountain was stupid & wouldn't want to put him in scenarios he could die for no reason at all.
Caraxes is more like a stealthy assassin dragon, swift & deadly like a snake.
Vhagar is like a massive big dog with dangerous teeth & has been trained heavily for combat like a prized fighting pitbull. Can the most deadly snake on the planet kill a strong old champion pitbull that won 100 dog fights? Yes. But can the pitbull also kill the snake without ever getting poisoned or injured somehow? Yes. But in real life as we've seen in Game of Thrones it's not some fair fight like dogs in a pit, the snake can be hiding in grasses or anywhere out in the jungle while the big dog is out in the open.
Even though Vermithor is smaller than Vhagar the only thing Vhagar really has on him is that Vhagar is a lot more battle experienced... if the Cannibal shows up though, a lot of people that try to ride him will die gruesomely.
And we will definitely see the Cannibal eating dragons, humans, others in Hotd if they decide to find the Cannibal and get him in the fight in desperation or just wanting to terrify & make the greens consider surrendering. But tbh the Cannibal is the most wild & aggressive dragon, he can very well take out the blacks side as well as the greens & just do whatever it wants, even though daemon is even more ballsy than Aemond I wouldn't see him trying to get the Cannibal involved unless he had nothing to lose.
This TV show might be the only chance we get to see the Cannibal so they might do it... but it will be a very scary & sad thing, more like an evil antagonist Ramsey Bolton type character that neither black fans or green fans are too happy about showing up.
@@neltins5308 They definitely should show them since Daemon mentioned the "three wild dragons" (Grey Ghost, Sheepstealer, and the Cannibal). I will assume that, of course, we will have Sheepstealer and Nettles in the main cast, but I think we will get a few scenes with Grey Ghost and the Cannibal, especially since some people will try to ride them, and there's that famous rumor that the Cannibal killed Grey Ghost, but it was actually Sunfyre.

I'm just wondering; Why the heck are Caraxes and Syrax the same size as they were in the first episode⁉️⁉️ It's been 15 to 20 years!!! They should be freakishly huge by now
Likely budget constraints, so that's why they started them off at good sizes. You gotta make sacrifices sometimes. They already stretched it a lot by giving a lot of them different designs. It would be nice to see them grow but none of the adult dragons need to be larger than they are to tell the story, they only need to have certain sizes relative towards eachother. Caraxes is still considered half the size of Vhagar for example, according to the HBO Guide (He's likely half in length, but definitely not in thickness) Only the young ones needed to be aged up, hence why Vermax is noticeably larger and of a ridable size now.

Vhagar is the largest dragon at this point, since Balerion passed away not long after Viserys bonded with him. After Vhagar is Vermithor, then Meraxes who is closely followed by The Cannibal. The reason why this dragon in particular is Vermithor is because Vermithor was much more accepting of people and new riders, The Cannibal was a wild dragon that could not be tamed. Vermithor recognised the High Valyrian song and was soothed by it, proving that this is likely Vermithor.

Cannibal could be larger than Vhagar, considering that it was a westerosi dragon, in which case it is just as old as balerion. Cannibal is loooong dead by the time of GoT, it said that that Dragons can live forever if their growth is controlled. The reason Balerion died wasn't because he was getting old, it was because he got too big for his own bone structure and he could not support his own weight anymore. The same thing is happening to Vhagar as seen from the show, her skin is starting to sag over because shes so massive.

It's confirmed by Condal that it is Vermithor. Also no he would not be bigger than Vhagar since it seems like he's been hiding in that cave or so it seems, which would have stunted his growth. Probably the 3rd biggest dragon next to Vhagar and The Cannibal.
Vhagar is damn scary very big huge and the nickname at that time was the smallest of all three dragons Blood Wyrm is very fitting. that dragon is dangerous, experienced, mature furious and battle ready.
What’s crazy to think about is that most of the large dragons in the show are old, having had one or more previous riders, and that they are still growing as dragons never stop growing. This means that it took them decades if not centuries to get to their current size. Then we see how Drogon grew to the size of Caraxes and maelys if not bigger in just a few years. Makes u wonder how absolutely massive Drogon would be near the end of his life. Probably bigger than balerion himself
Dragons growth will probably slow down as he ages. Drogon got this big in the show only due to freedom it enjoyed unlike other dragons. Even if it continued to grow at this rate in future, it end up dying early being too big exist in this world, starving , unable to carry its own weight with wings.

@@sinanc.4635 cannibal was on Dragonstone before Targaryen's set foot on Westeros.

Nothing to discuss, it was Vermithor. Cannibal is bigger, jet black with bright green eyes, and a wild dragon that is hyper aggressive to humans and other dragons. Not sure why so many people are confused by the two. They are dramatically different. It also flat out tells you in the subtitles that it's Vermithor.
If he sang to the cannibal he wouldn’t be singing long🤣
The dragon he sings to is Vermithor. When you have subtitles on it says "Vermithor growls"
This gives me an idea, they should make a series about aegon and his path to the iron throne, obviously that would sell,in that show there could be a fight scene between Balerion and Cannibal,Balerion wins or they draw and both walk away, common who wouldn't want to see that
If they make such a show I hope it’s a Limited series. Sure it would be cool but not that interesting knowing that it’s a quite straightforward conquest. The dance is a civil war between dragons so there is at least a sense of challenge, betrayal, factionalism. The conquest was just a conquest and an easy one
@@Gabriel-Tár yeah I guess, but the hype and action though
@@Gabriel-Tár yep its not game of thrones 1 season would be enough for aegons conquest but for me its not the same if we all know the ending it just isnt that interesting
Imo at this point Aegon and his conquest have become far more legendary than anything else in the entire saga. It would be so hard to do it if DOTD succeeded, as the standard would rise to an unbelievable level. The only reason DOTD is considered a great show is the failure of GOT. The first 4 seasons of GOT are still on a level that will likely never be reached again. The conquest would better be kept as a story to avoid disappointment.
@@mlooky1221 interesting
It was also said that Jaehaerys also sang to his dragon so it is definitely Vermithor.
What kind of threw me aside about this episode 10 first season of HOTD Final Episode was the formal Mention of The Blacks VS The Greens. Please correct me if I'm wrong but in the prior Nine episodes it was never mentioned about Black versus Green at least amongst the Characters .
No, youre right. I noticed that as well
No need for speculation. They said it was Vermithor in the subtitles.
We saw Vermithor, at least that’s what the subtitles referred to him as. Vermithor is smaller than Vhagar but not by much. Cannibal I believe is bigger than even Balerion was, as he was born just after Balerion, but is still alive decades after Balerion died.
No. Cannibal is way younger. Balerion is the only dragon alive before the Doom, and he, with Meraxes and Vaghar, were the only dragons big enough to fight during the conquest. Cannibal is a second generation dragon by all accounts, aside some rumors treated like rumors from the smallfolk.
It’s definitely vermithor if you watched it with subtitles on when he approaches it say vermithor when it subs it’s roar
It’s Vermithor… Joys of watching shows like this with subtitles on is you pick up on little details like that. 😂
When Daemon goes to visit him in the finale, and after Vermithor unleashes his fire show…the subtitles pop up and say “Vermithor grumbles”
Turn on subtitles kiddos. 🤙🏻
Why are you assuming people should read? Is not like a life advantage or something...
It's Vermithor. He is 2nd biggest next to Vhagar
It’s not cannibal, he has glowing green eyes and solid black on black
He does, but as we've seen, they aren't sticking 100% to the description of the dragons for colouration. The dragon in the taming scene is definitely Vermithor though, since Cannibal would just eat any and everyone who bothered him lol.
The idea that in these already terrifying creatures there is one that sustains itself through cannibalism is fucking spinechilling. That there exists a dragon that would not bond with human nor dragon kin and would willingly attack and eat other dragons is probably the scariest dragon around.
Something big coming.. 🔥🥵
That was Vermithor because Daemon singing a lullaby that was also sang by first rider of Vermithor.
The dragons in HOTD do the trick but they dont even come close to Drogon. That design and his size probably constitute the best dragon ever put to screen
We should likely expect to see other dragons in the same form as Drogon - like Dreamfyre will very likely look much the same, aside from colouration. Personally, I think they will make Cannibal appear similar in the very horned/intimidating type of way - only Cannibal is entirely black. If we ever get the Aegon the Conqueror spin off, Balerion will also probably be similar too.
You still haven't seen MELEYS The Red Queen fight 1v2 against SUNFYRE AND VHAGAR, that would be next season along with Blood and Cheese (IfYouKnowYouKnow) (:/)! ALSO Tessarion another She Dragon roughly the Size of Viserion but NATURALLY BLUE WITH BLUE FLAMES (;))! Tessarion dies fighting in a rage after her rider is dismounted, and goes RIGHT FOR Vermithor and Seamoke or Silverwing if I'm not mistaken...
*Either way you have yet to See Vermithor in all his Might, THE SAME could be said for SUNFYRE and Meleys after Aegon the 2nd fights alongside his Brother against The Red Queen with Vhagar... AND Caraxes seeing as how He and Daemon end the War in 1 Duel Dragon Rider to Dragon Rider (._.)! With both falling from the sky above the God's Eye Lake (:/)!*
...and about Drogons appearance.. he's often compared to The Black Dread in terms of not only his size but specifically his Rapid Growth and INCREASE in Size over the Years... Overall it's said the Dragons with the Potential to grow as big as Belerion The Black Dread were Vhagar, Sunfyre if he lived long enough, AND Drogon... and indeed whenever I think of Belerion The Black Dread, I imagine a COLOSSAL DROGON with Black Scales and Eyes as terrifying as his grin (._.)! I can only imagine how heavily Armored the Black Dread must've been with such TONS of Dragon Scales and Dragon bone... TRULLY an UNSTOPPABLE FORCE of Nature... but yes Drogon is Menacingly Massive AND Terrifying to say the least..
@@AlexLopez-vm7uq emmm dude. You did see Drogon on GoT. He was big but still smaller than Meleys and Caraxes. He looked like a reborn Balerion but he was still too young to compare to most adult dragons.

@@michaelmcdoesntexist1459 I know he's not the biggest but compared to MoonDancer or even Tessarion,... he's battle ready and more used to battle than other Dragons his age..
We know The Cannibal isn't as old as Balerion. It's been established that Balerion was the last creature to see Valyria before The Doom.
Vermithor is called Bronze Fury, Cannibal is black. So this dragon is obviously Cannibal wearing bronze face (like wearing black face).
This is vermithor. the wild dragons won't be introduced until much later
Balerion was the largest then Vhagar is the largest living then Cannibal then Vermithor. The differences between them aren’t much. If they can harness Vermithor and the Cannibal they will be in good shape. The dragons after this three are a good step down in size.

They are all the Same Breed, the Reason they are comparing Drogon and Balerion is they are Identical in appearance. Both are black with Red horns. and from different timeline, So they say he is a Reincarnation of the Black Dread.
Now, for Drogon to Reach Balerion and Vhaghar's size, First he have to live for over 150 years and have to be trained should have a rider or a mate to live long.

Caraxes is NOT deformed! All dragons look different because there are different breeds, almost being sub-species. Dragons come in different shapes and sizes, and ages. Generally, dragons in the books had a large variety in size, shape, and colour. Some were sleek, and a bit smaller others were powerful and imposing. Some had large horns. Some did not. Theyvall have different genetics which dictate their features and determine their height/length etc.

It just goes to show that Daenerys was definitely the princess who was promised. She had so much control over her dragons, they listened to her. And that’s because she raised them to live out of captivity. Apart from 1 incident with Drogon which resulted in Rhaegal and Viserion being put under the catacombs of Mereen. They spent their lives free as they should be. She truly showed us “that a dragon is not a slave”. My favourite expression of this is when Drogon came and saved her when her life was in danger. And we should all give her a hand, for riding bareback ❤😂
Dany’s rebelling against her is a big plot element that’s explored in multiple books. The show showed a bit of it even. Viserion is the most well behaved with Drogon essentially being one step above a wild animal. They kill children, dude. Get a grip.

It's Vermithor, Cannibal was completely wild and would've killed Daemon pretty much on the spot. There's also no way Cannibal was bigger than Balerion, Vhagar or even Vermithor (I'd be surprised if he was even the size of Meleys), the idea Cannibal was around since before the Targaryens is ridiculous, it's a tale among the smallfolk, it's not a credible or accurate source at all.
I don't get why people are so interested in Cannibal, he's completely irrelevant, it's a nice inclusion to the lore, but he literally plays no role whatsoever in the story, if he shows up as anything other than being mentioned in conversation, I'd genuinely consider it a serious waste of money and screentime.

About the size of Cannibal:
1. Sheepstealer was 80 year old (from the book) and he never being locked so it a very likely he was bigger than Caraxes and Meley ( around 70 years oldand half the size of Vhagar). Cannibal was known to be the olddest and largest of the wild dragons
2. At one time when Sheepstealer was going to kill 2 people try to tame him. Cannibal appear and just easily chase Sheepstealer away. In order to do that I believe he not just bigger but significantly bigger than Sheepstealer which put him atleast in the Vermithor-Vhagar range

@@s8theninjawarrior916 Yeah, but Seasmoke also drove away Sheepstealer tho, and he was a much younger and smaller dragon, probably only about 30-40 years old, since Laenor was the first person to ride him.
