You've gotta come to Japan and do a retro game hunt. It's absolutely surreal and incredible seeing thousands of old games all lined up in box for 5$, 10$, 20$, and so on. The first time I went out, I thought every game had to be fake or something because there's no way there's like 5 mint copies of pokemon silver in box for 16$ each. It's crazy
Where I live if you use company funds to buy stuff for you it is illegal. Profits are different obviously but are subject to taxation Austin would be going to jail if he lived where I do at worst or losing his business and fined at best.
One of my friends had PSX but we still used normal PS2 to play games because when we loaded a disc that was suposed to bypass pirated games, it didnt work in PSX for some reason and we used PS2 Slim instead... Good old days imma tell ya that... After school going to a friends home and play games, it was a blast...
I've used Sendico a lot in the past, was put onto it by Elliott from Retro Future. It's a really great place if you're an anime/manga/video game collector. I've picked up nearly new manga volumes for less than a $1 each. They same translated volumes sell locally for about $15-$25. It can be very confusing though, it's not you're normal online shopping experience. You have to be committed to your purchase, because everything is done in stages, including payment, which normally involves 2 or 3 transactions (one for purchasing the item, one for packaging, one for shipping etc).
I mean I've definitely thought about using it but you have to be very realistic about what it all entails. Sadly there aren't too many easy ways to bid on things and get them shipped anywhere into the western hemisphere or elsewhere. So you kind of have to take an opportunity like this for what it is.
My first thought, but in reality, they could buy the things from the company if they don't originally use their own money at the start. meaning Ken is starting 💩
Sendico is a pretty cool service. You just have to be incredibly realistic about the cost of shipping times etc. Once you get past that in the other little hurdles you have to deal with it's pretty cool.
I still say that it is a travesty that the west never got the PSX because I have always wanted one in place of a traditional PS2 - Its such a neat little footnote in video game and console history. My local hobby shop had one about 5 years ago in near mint condition for nearly $600 but it had been region hacked so it was effectively fully functional.
Agree. These youngsters have no idea that the television still gives an image through composite, even if it’s not supported, it just out of scan synch and/or black and white. And if your tv has composite in and it’s not 30 years old then it 99% supports ntsc
8:08 I actually don't think blowing did anything, but rather, Austin just inserted the cart AFTER turning the DS on, which doesn't really work. Meanwhile, Ken turned the DS on after putting the cart in
As a hardcore Final Fantasy fan, I am envious of Austin, probably for the first time ever..... I didn't even know that wondrous one existed and I need it
this is why i recommend japanese sites and shippers for ppl who wanna get into retro collecting cuz its much much more of a sane and reasonable market then the one scammers in the us built its why most of the imports here are reasonably priced plus the stock in japan lasts longer so less bs excuses of hey its less produced so we gotta sell a controller or game for 200$ when I can get it here for 10$
Honestly, finding a broken PSX is a lot more common than finding one that fully works. The PSX is a notoriously faulty device with basically every component having common issues. Luckily for you only the Disc Drive seems to be the only issue and that can be fixed, but the system is prone to failures with the Hard Drive, Power Supply, cooling due to terrible thermal design and even the board failing entirely. It's a miracle that it even turns on to be bonest.
There was a Game Gear adapter you could slot in and watch regular TV. I don't know if those can still be found but that would be pretty cool to have on there
You were lucky to find a PSX that still works. The hard drive has failed on most of them, and without a hard drive, it won't even boot. The HDD is encrypted, so once that dies, the console is pretty much useless, there is no way to get it working again without a backup of the HDD from before it failed. I would make a full image of that HDD as soon as possible, so when the drive inevitably dies, you can put the image onto a new drive.
I remember as a kid I would play my gameboy color under my sheets with the wiggly light till 2am when I was supposed to get up the next day for school. This was before wifi, cell phones, etc.
Taking the cart out and putting it in multiple times is what makes it work. It helps to clean the contacts. Blowing in carts does nothing but make the contacts corrode.
It confused me too. I heard Japan is NTSCJ and I think it was West NTSC, PAL East or something (maybe reverse) maybe they made it universal later on I don't know but either way yeah just something else like the cartridge then the conversion. If the NTSC works the same for connections I don't know.
The shipping is the one reason I’m wary of using any proxy shippers. It feels hard to find an upfront shipping estimate on a few of them and I don’t want to get stuck with $100-$300 in shipping fees on top of per item fees, holding fees, etc that a lot of them could have.
This seems like a nice store to import from Japan, I use Rakuten to purchase and import stuff like Yu-Gi-Oh cards, music cds, videogames and accesories to México
PSX I wanted so bad, I keep hoping Sony would make a PS1-3 legacy console that has all the features of the past but runs any of the games of any region just to keep all the games that have been locked by publisher and legal BS.
Just in case, my spouse is Japanese & my teen is bilingual. Plus we live by the beach in Santa Monica. The teen has bunches of Gameboy XLs & games. 11:03
zenmarket does like 300y per item and the amount of shit that u can get from yahoo auctions for cheap is fucking bonkers. like seriously idk how this shit is real
yeah but i’m always sceptical about reliability. it seems like buyee and sendico are the most reliable ones since i hear basically everyone talking about those two.
I've used a few proxies and Sendico was the only one that I felt actually cared about my stuff. Buyee and Zenmarket I received lots of damaged goods in my parcels, and they told me it was my fault for not paying for additional services🤷♂ What's the point of having a cheaper fee if I need to pay for 5, 500 yen add-ons to get my stuff safely? Might as well pay 500 yen for Sendico and get it safe every time
I had the same issue. Zenmarket customer service was rude and basically told me that I was the problem. I didn't even ask for a refund... Just wanted to know if I could claim for parcel insurance because things were damaged in transit. They told me they wouldn't contact FedEx because I should have paid for Zenmarket insurance??? Just seems scammy to me
Shoutout to Ken for being a cultured man and acknowledging that Auto Modellista is one of the greatest racing games ever. I'm still hoping for a remaster or something 😔
The first time I used sendico I also bought a psx, two in fact! Cost me an arm and a leg with the weight and when it came the same problem happened to me! The soluction I came up with was to mod the psx because the main laser wasnt working so it couldnt check what the disc was, and with the mod it just skipped it and played the disc right away! I recommend you guys do the same!
My main laser is also dead. If I boot the console with the game in and a freemcboot card in the console it boots the game just fine. Notoriously unreliable console but a cool piece of tech. Just hope my hard drive never dies.
PSX’s are known to break like crazy. The disc drive always goes out. It’s actually extremely rare to find one in good working condition and they normally cost a ton. It is cool to have the XMB bar on the PS2 though, but not worth the cost.
Can we please have 1 of 2 Episodes please: An Austin Evans Pokemon Pack Opening Video An Austin Evans Mystery Tech "Card Edition" where you find the strangest TCGs
PSX might of not worked because you had it stood up on its back. Unlike the other PS2 consoles, your can't stand the PSX upright and insert discs down into the front like that.
10:07 back in the 90's I had the gameboy and my neighbor had the black sega gamegear with that same sonic game, I remember being blown away by the lighted screen and playing sonic portably. Wow that brought back great memories! ❤
I'm pretty sure the PSX was discontinued because many of them had trouble being both a video game console and DVR in 1. I could be thinking of a different console but it makes sense if it was this 1. They learned from their mistakes and didn't put all those features in the PS2.
I've been subbed for a few years, idk how many...but I definitely don't think I was around 10 years ago for the fire...I'm actually glad you made it out safe...I saw the video on Reddit right after Ken said it (I looked it up)...shit was crazy...you must've had great renter's insurance cuz you took that relatively well...and I hope you kept that dope version of "The Goblet of Fire"
I was holding off on getting another pxs after selling my first one. I even have brand new lasers for it if I wanted to fix one up, yes people it has two lasers.
I honestly think the PSX was one of the most aesthetically pleasing consoles of all time to look at, maybe its just the glossy finish but it looks so much more premium than any other Playstation console, and it was also way ahead of its time with the interface and everything.

Now let me tell you. I had a PS2 for a long time. But I have always wanted a PSX
Most psx consoles the reader inside would stop working
Crazy how nowadays you can just emulate PS2 on an Android phone. My LG G8 is like a 4 year old phone that runs like 90% of the PS2 games on AetherSX2.
It's probably on the latest DVD firmware, probably wouldn't work with most hacks.

One thing about Japanese is they keep their items in good condition. The resale market is huge, so they buy with the thinking to resell later.
