I'm 74 years old. Played piano all my life with a focus on accompaniment to congregational singing and all kinds of gospel music. As a result, I was very familiar with the keyboard but never introduced to the classics. Within the last year, a dear friend who knew how I loved music (and loved being as musical as I could be) really encouraged me to begin to understand and get acquainted with the preludes and fugues, Bach's inventions and sinfonias, etc. I'll never look back.....I'm working on only the simple ones, of course, but finding such joy in realizing that I CAN learn to play them - as well as I can learn to play them - always looking for the music in it, and once I catch that - learning how to express it as well as I can. I do a lot of "looking performances up" on line and listening to how the masters play them. I don't make their performance a goal, obviously, but I can make it a learning point, a reference point. I have long been familiar with certain melody lines and certain titles - and am finding a great deal of satisfaction in gaining in understanding and ability to play the pieces - at my level. About 18 months ago, I had a bad fall and injured several fingers on my left hand, impacting mobility. I am finding that the daily piano playing is incredibly therapeutic for that hand. ....and I am still enjoying, very much, the endless progressions and predictable patterns of gospel music. Talking OLD gospel here - stuff published 1942 and before. That's a genre all its own. Music - a fair and glorious gift of God. I will never play for an audience other than God. I hope He's pleased with my progress.

The left hand on the second part of the exposition has to be at the same time soft and fast and it's so difficult to have balance in the left hand, and this goes on and on in the whole piece! And everything's so exposed in every Mozart's piece, you really need to have intent in every note! The triad Bach, Mozart and Beethoven are true geniuses! They laugh at the hours we spend trying to achieve a glimpse of their excellence!
This piece isn't easy. It's one of the easier Sonatas from Mozart, but it's definitely not easy. It's only "easy" because it's Sonata in C Major, but it needs you to have very strong techniques, and as it progresses into other keys, there are more black keys, and it becomes "more difficult".

No matter how easy it is to play, you gotta admit it takes a lot of skill to be able to play it how Barenboim plays it. Same goes for any piece, no matter how technically easy it is.

About the 1st mov. The dynamic is excelent. It sounded soft yet firm with the bass being semi percussive when needed. Even if it's played a little fast, the control he has with each key press is remarkable. Emphasizing the correct notes like they are supposed to be is by no means an easy task. This guy really thought this through and through.

Although there are limits to the human ability to express language, I feel that there might be something mysterious in Mozart’s pondering a motif of a piece of music that transcends human ability and creates an infinitely wonderful fantasy.
I learned this when I was about 7 or 8 years old🥹I am 22 years old now and still don’t know how to read sheet music. I learned it by ear and just double checking with people that know how to read sheet music to triple check that I played it right. But I play piano solely by ear 👂🏽🎹🥹 There’s so much nostalgia and memories associated with this song. It is such a beautiful melody and to this day is still one of my favorite tunes. I still play it to this day, along with many more tunes other songs. I love all types of music and instrumentals like interstellar, Narnia, lion king’s this land, Balto soundtracks, or any Hanz Zimmer music honestly. I love it all🥹piano, music, melody, harmony, symphony is my outlet and soothes my soul, playing piano will remain in me forever 🥹🎹I love music. Even though I will probably never learn how to read notes or sheet music, I will always play piano and sing in harmony. Thankful to and grateful that God gave me such gift like this😭🥹🤍
My old Japanese clients has many teaching books on piano and pianists and I flipped a Mozart block open and found this one. I can’t read music but by the notes I could tell it was a song at this pace. :) I love classical music. One broken dream is never having learned to play the piano or violin.
Until there's life there's possibility. I started at 40 yo (as it was my child's dream) and since then never stopped. I played the first half of this Andante some years ago at a music school concert and it was one of the most important day of my entire life, to be able to perform this piece nicely is something magical for both the player and the public. ❤️
In the movie Groundhog day with Bill Murray, he hears this song in a Café, which inspires him to play Piano. Its always been one of my favourite movies and this song, in the same way captured me....So I bought a Piano....never played Piano....And for 6 months after painfully transcribing the notes from a Mozart music book I bought, I tried to play it....I spent 2-3 hours a day...everyday!!!....just learning this song....using a Daniel Barenboim CD I found in a charity shop....I couldn't play anything else.....6 months later....I done it!....and I still remember playing it at a house party for the first time, in front of my family and friends....and my Dad put his hands on my shoulders and said... "that was incredible Son...." I'll never forget that moment....After this I truly understood that you can really do anything in life...If you really want it.
When I heard the harmonies in the 2nd movement from 4:34-5:24, I knew I had to revisit this sonata. Sometimes I forget how beautiful simple lines can be.

Daniel Barenboim does the best Mozart interpretations I've ever heard. Just soft enough in the right spots but as forceful as I always thought heavy passages should be. I've seen people play the whole thing too light and others just pound out the whole thing but Daniel has just the right balance that I always believed Mozart would have had.
Daniel Barenboim and Alfred Brendel, two of the most passionate interpreters that will not be with us for much longer. Footage of these guys at the piano is pure gold.

oh the memories this brings back! such memories of sitting in the back of my grandpa’s car as he’s driving and pulling into the driveway of his house... it’s hardly the music that’s so beautiful, it’s the beautiful memories that come with it. there isn’t quite a nostalgic feeling i’ve ever felt before as i feel now reminiscing of the times with my grandpa... it’s true happiness. also great performance! really great.

A little ways after 1:53, just as he reaches the statement of the theme in F Major, this quality appears in the sound - this kind of floating, angelic sheen that just mystifies me. Probably Barenboim meant to get exactly that tone (I don't know how he would achieve it), or possibly the recording engineer brought it out in some way, or perhaps the room's acoustics just lined up perfectly for that moment to shine. But it's magic.
The unusual tone is from the extremely beautiful acoustics. You would be shocked if hearing that same section in a small room, as he used absolutely no pedal, which you hear especially in the left hand mezzo-staccato. The floating feeling is from playing molto pianissimo skilfully (slight crescendo each descent) in right hand with no pedal and such energetic acoustics making impression unusually floating.
I love playing this on the piano. Mozart's music is incredibly enjoyable as a piano player. And challenging. Learning how to play it really made my playing excel. those fast sequence /scale runs help keep my chops good
It would be no exaggeration to say that the awesomely wonderful synergy between his inhuman mentality and the piano’s potential as an instrument has crystallized into a timeless work of art in this universe.

Adam Gučík If you enjoy it, that’s fine; however it is no masterpiece. Apart from one of the most simple and memorable opening four bars in the whole of music, the rest is pretty predictable and the first two movements in particular are nothing more than an unadventurous journey along very long stretches of barren Alberti bass. It is probably Mozart’s weakest sonata.

This sonata facile is extremely straightforward both technically and interpretively; it’s not helpful to big it up into something it’s not.
Nah, you got it the opposite way; this sonata sounds hard but is really easy to play.

If I were to describe Mozart's aesthetics in a few words it would be simplicity, decadence, and pure joy taken to their most extreme depth and height.
As I listen to Mozart's music with Gratitude for being able to hear it, I’m pretty happy to feel God’s Blessing even more in my heart ❤

Once I get used to listening to the performances of this great pianist, I'm able to hear those of other pianists with my sensory ears, though Mozart’s spirit will not resonate in my heart’s ears ❤
Daniel Barenboim does the best Mozart interpretations I've ever heard. Just soft enough in the right spots but as forceful as I always thought heavy passages should be. I've seen people play the whole thing too light and others just pound out the whole thing but Daniel has just the right balance that I always believed Mozart would have had.

oh the memories this brings back! such memories of sitting in the back of my grandpa’s car as he’s driving and pulling into the driveway of his house... it’s hardly the music that’s so beautiful, it’s the beautiful memories that come with it. there isn’t quite a nostalgic feeling i’ve ever felt before as i feel now reminiscing of the times with my grandpa... it’s true happiness.

A little ways after 1:53, just as he reaches the statement of the theme in F Major, this quality appears in the sound - this kind of floating, angelic sheen that just mystifies me. Probably Barenboim meant to get exactly that tone (I don't know how he would achieve it), or possibly the recording engineer brought it out in some way, or perhaps the room's acoustics just lined up perfectly for that moment to shine. But it's magic.

The unusual tone is from the extremely beautiful acoustics. You would be shocked if hearing that same section in a small room, as he used absolutely no pedal, which you hear especially in the left hand mezzo-staccato. The floating feeling is from playing molto pianissimo skilfully (slight crescendo each descent) in right hand with no pedal and such energetic acoustics making impression unusually floating.

I love playing this on the piano. Mozart's music is incredibly enjoyable as a piano player. And challenging. Learning how to play it really made my playing excel. those fast sequence /scale runs help keep my chops good
It would be no exaggeration to say that the awesomely wonderful synergy between his inhuman mentality and the piano’s potential as an instrument has crystallized into a timeless work of art in this universe.

Apart from one of the most simple and memorable opening four bars in the whole of music, the rest is pretty predictable and the first two movements in particular are nothing more than an unadventurous journey along very long stretches of barren Alberti bass.
It is probably Mozart’s weakest sonata.
