Those excruciating moments... until you realize that's exactly what happens to you too when you are playing Geoguessr not just watching someone else do it: the bloody name you've been looking for ages has been 3 pixels off your area of vision all along... :)
Just wanted to comment saying that, although I was never into Geoguessr before the last week, I've absolutely binged your videos due to the entertainment and knowledge you bring. Hell, I rarely leave comments on videos but I just wanted to say keep it up man!
SAME I literally just found one of his videos the other day and not only am I addicted to watching them I'm also addicted to playing now lol it's actually a probelm I haven't gotten any work done all week
I mean in my mind Darwin isn't big, it has just over 100,000 inhabitants, right? But I guess only the northern parts of Australia can be classified as tropical.
Some of these have been really fun to play along with now, a few years later, but sometimes the updated street view images miss some CRUCIAL clues. Like in round 4, those Council of Portsmouth vans aren’t there anymore, so as an American the only clue I had to go off of was “Westminster Place”. Still got over 4000 points guessing Westminster in London, but still. That’s a literal game changer!
Ended up with 19,637! I got 0 points on the last round by guessing Bermuda, which I seemed to remember driving on the left and certainly being tropical. Should’ve remembered to go off the sun!
Overall, it was a decent round for me. First one was obvious as Korea, based on the symbols. In hindsight, I should have just went for Seoul. I placed it in the middle, but got good points either way. Second round definitely makes it on to my "Insane guesses" list. Went Japan based on "Yoshida" and randomly placed it in Nagoya. Great points, of course. Third, it was clearly the UK. Didn't have a good grasp of where, so I went Oxford based on the old architecture. Not a great amount of points, but not a calamity. Fourth one was very clearly Portsmouth, so it was a given to get good points. Last one, Australia did cross my mind based on the cars being parked on the left side. The climate forced me to go elsewhere, which was a very bad decision. I went Singapore (as if that was more likely lol), so an extremely low score. All in all, though, roughly 18 600 points. Definitely pleased with that, especially the Japan guess!
I also guessed oxford because of that, I forgot to bother checking the cars on the sides of the road and just guessed somewhere in swampy florida, 16k points
I know I am super late but here are my scores each round: 1) 4994 - 1.1 miles away 2) 4627 - 68 miles away. Was very hard to figure out which city I was in, but I figured central somewhere. 3) 3775 - 245 miles away. UK is SO big, and I spent so long searching for either a Bellevue or Claremont on the map, decided to just click Bermingham. 4) 4994 - 1.1 miles away. I couldn't find the Westminister Place on the map, I knew it was a road but you had to be zoomed in SO far to read it, so I just clicked in the middle of the city and hoped for the best. 5) 0 points - 11,234 miles away. Yeah I figured we were in an island, thought possibly somewhere where they spoke both english and spanish so I hedged my bets on Puerto Rico. Australia never even crossed my mind. Total: 18,890 points. Very dissapointed as I wanted to beat tom this time, dammit!
Omg Hyochang Park Station was on the map as soon as you clicked into Seoul. That was painful to watch 🤦♀️ Also, I'm from Edinburgh so was shouting at my screen for that one too 😂 Have walked along that street countless times so that was fun to see a street I know pop up in one of your vids.
@16:08 I am Dutch, and what for me makes those houses British, is that the bricks are multi coloured. Dutch council houses nearly always use just one colour of bricks for the entire house.
1st: Big city in Korea. Seoul? 4993 points. I'll take it. 2nd: Japan. Somewhere? Maybe where that arrow thing was pointing to (thought it was the north of Honshu)? Nope, 3316 points. 3rd: Somewhere in the UK, not really knowledgeable in that area but it looked like and old and big city so I went for London. Apparently it's Edinburgh then, 3412 points. 4th: Portsmouth. Didn't really bother looking around for it, 4996 points. 5th: Jungley and drives on the left. Could be a lot of places, went for Malaysia, happened to not be it, happens, 374 points. 17091 points in total, not bad I'd say
Two tips to make Australia easy. Those bins from what I know are only ever in Aus (may also be in NZ). The electricity poles being metal are only ever in SA or NT (Northern Territory) but with all the palm trees it must be North of Australia and hence Darwin
I was so excited by the Pompey guess, I literally walk past that estate every other day, I could see my house on the map when you were zooming in and out. I allowed myself one click in either direction rather than No moving, and got 4 perfect scores, and 2.2k in Japan. 22537 total
1) Guessed Seoul then followed the metro lines to find Hyochang Park Station. Worked it out from there (the railway by the side of the main road helped) for 5000 points. 2) Randomly guessed somewhere on the edge of Yokohama. 4280 points. 3) Immediately recognised the new town area of Edinburgh. 5000 points. 4) The vans are no longer there on the more recent streetview. Guessed Slough. 4707 points. 5) A little bit more English text on the more recent streetview. Guessed Australia, and figured for it to look that tropical it must be in the north. Clicked Darwin, and was amazed to get 4994 points. Total of 23981 points. 🙂
1. INSANE CRAZY GUESS got it 60yds from point in Seoul. 5000 points 2. Put it in Tokyo. 4167 points 3. Guessed South Hampton. 3325Points 4. Easy Clue Clicked randomly in Portsmouth 4993 points. 5. Clicked Brisbane AU and got 657 points. Total points was 18142points
Really impressive stuff! The second one was a real shame, the signs you were looking did actually say the city and the district of the city you were in. 名古屋 Nagoya, and 東区 east district. Not blaming you for not knowing though!
First time I've had one literally on my daily walk, was so glad you didn't get it because that's the only time I've ever had one on you. My first thought was Glasgow too before I saw the street name and was like "oh"
2nd round went insane for me! It would make insane guesses! I knew it was japan, but I was like, naaah, don't know where it is, so I zoomed out the whole map, clicked in a random place in japan from ALMOST FULLY ZOOMED OUT MAP and guessed 2 MILES AWAY! like wtf! Wish I had recorded it !
Just a couple of tips for the Edinburgh/Glasgow guessing 1. Glasgow has virtually no cobbled streets left (maybe a back lane or two but no main streets) 2. Edinburgh papers: Evening News and Scotsman Glasgow papers: Evening Times and Herald
Mainstream people would learn japanese to understand anime in original version, upper class people would learn japanese to get 5000 points in a Japan spawn on Geoguessr :)
Hello from Indiana. got 20,197 somehow...i'm very novice, just started playing the other day. Good fun with these play alongs, it's reassuring when my thought process is similar to yours. Learning a lot, thanks!
Yes! I've been suggesting 3 minutes per round for over a year. I think it's a great time limit to get the perfect balance between the long-term analytic thinking and the short-term instinctual guesses. I would love to see it!
1. 4992 points Thought the writing looked more Korean than Japanese and just went for Seoul 2. 4522 points This time the writing looked Japanese and I saw the black-yellow-striped-pole thing that Tom has talked about. Went for Osaka, not right but hey, close enough 3. 4150 points Obviously Britain but had no idea what city. Thought the sea was at north and Edinburgh was the only city that correlated. Didn’t see the street name in Edinburgh and gave up and then just went for a random city (Leeds). Oh how annoyed I was… 4. 4993 points Saw Portsmouth, found it on the map and just guessed in the center 5. 461 points This was so confusing. The writing was English, driving was on the left. I was thinking Australia, New Zealand. But then I saw the sun was in the southern hemisphere so then I thought we were in the northern hemisphere. Then I just couldn’t find out where and went Singapore.. Not gonna trust the sun again Full score: 19118 :) #213
1st: 200m off, nice guess. Found something with "Huang" and went for it 2nd: Osaka, so a bit closer than yours 3rd: Way off, saw a bus that said London on it.. Went for it, against all instincts 4th: 2 blocks away 4999 5th: Guessed northern philipines as there were a lot of Japanese and Chinese car brands. Rip score
My game: Round 1: Korea based on the circles in the symbols, went for Seoul because its the biggest. 4970 points. Round 2: Obviously Japan, went with my gut (based on no japanese knowledge) for Osaka, pretty close I guess. 4554 points. Round 3: Looks like UK to me. Felt the buildings had a dirty look to them (like coal or something?) and I've seen that in pictures of Edinburgh, but I went for Glasgow because I had some strange inkling that it might be that instead. 4770 points. Round 4: UK again, obviously saw the Portsmouth car. Took some time to find Portsmouth (I was looking north for some reason) so I didn't even bother looking too close for a street or anything after. Got close still. 4999 points. Round 5: This was probably the toughest, and yet the one I decided on the quickest because I couldn't be bothered playing anymore. The feeling that hit me was Australia, so I went in Adelaide. Of course it ends up being on the other side of the mass, 776 points. 20069 final, it's alright.
My best round of this format so far! 1. Gathered South Korea from the writing. Looked for the place on the sign for a while but in the end hedged my bets and guessed in the middle of the country. 4617 points. 2. Guessed Japan due to the electric wiring ;) Didn't really find anything to go on so I went for Tokyo. 4159 points. 3. Looked old, went for Oxford. Embarrassing ;) 3539 points. 4. Portsmouth obvs. 4983 points. 5. Left hand traffic and Australia judging from the parked cars and very tropical. Could be either Cairns or Darwin but it didn't really look touristy so I went for Darwin. 4915 points! Super pleased with the Darwin guess. 22213 points in total!
1- Just ramdomly went somewhere in Seoul. 7km off - 4975 points. 2- In a long long shot i was comparing the letters in that plaque at the right with the phone numbers, etc and actually found Nagoia written in the big letters. It was actually kinda easy to see it, comparing only with the big cities. Clicked somewhere there, 1.5km off. 4995 points. 3- Only knew Britain. No freaking idea of anything else. I just thought it looked kinda similar with some of London's architecture and such so clicked some city around that area (Bristol). 502.6km off. 3497 points. 4- Just went for Portsmouth, obviously. More to the center, since the coastal areas seemed a lot more "busy" and urban. 945m off. 4997 points. 5- Still horrible at rounds where i don't have any clues to where i'm at and it's places i'm not familiar with since i'm not experienced yet. In this one even worse because i didn't even notice the left driving...it just looked like US/Mexico to me from the beggining and i completely ignored the rest smh....0 points. 18.464 points total. The only highlight was the Nagoia one. Average/horrible on the rest. Back to normal since the abnormally great game from the last time xD
A main difference between Edinburgh and Glasgow would be that Glasgow has a lot more red sandstone and Edinburgh is more grey/yellow in general. If you're in Glasgow you'll almost always see some red sandstone tenements
1st round - Korean writing. Saw the sign with 'bri' at the end assumed it had to mean bridge. Checked the river in Seoul and found the Wonhyo bridge - saw the railway line going directly north to south so could allign with the roads on the road leading off the bridge. 5000 points 2nd round - Asahi - Japanese. Probably panicked after that - just went near Kobe for some of that tasty beef. 4445 - not bad considering the size of Japan 3rd round - Obviously Uk - assumed Edinburgh due to the cobbly roads (I know Edinburgh has them) and it has a city feel plus miserable weather - couldnt find the road in Edinburgh (didn't look hard so just guessed randomly there). Bugger I was 2 roads across! 4995 4th round - Uk again - complete shit hole by the looks of it . Portsmouth - lovely - clearly not the part on the sea. Just took a stab at any old street - couldn't find the street name or other obvious clues (even the name of that building that i did see) - 4994 points 5th round - bollocks - im not good going of plants and landscape. Sun isn't helping me (ffs). Ruling our America because I dont remember them having 'quikstop' petrol stations from my visits there. I've been to Australia - it looks a little like that i suppose - a Japanese car would suit that nicely. gotta go east coast obviously. Melbourne - why not. 527 points (shut up was it north west) total 19962 - last round was a killer - wow I scraped a win! I'll take it
Beat your score! You beat me on Seoul because I guessed Daegu for whatever reason, I think I was just too lazy to search in Seoul. But I ended up guessing Edinburgh and Darwin correctly- Edinburgh because I frankly forgot Glasgow existed and that's basically the only Scottish city I knew (it was the cobblestone streets that made me think Scotland). For Darwin, I also narrowed it down to Australia with the same logic as you, but the palm trees made me think far north of Australia, I'm not sure if you get palm trees further south, though I could be wrong. For Nagoya I guessed in Kyoto (was also a wild guess for me) which was much closer than where you guessed, and we were basically exactly even on the Portsmouth one though you got it in faster time because I had to search around for where Portsmouth was lmao.
Never played along before but I did this time… Round 1 - I went Seoul but didn’t look around for long enough to find the exact location and went along a trainline on the other side of the city - Didn’t note down score but was around 4800-4900 Round 2 - I got Japan, went with a “southern city” so chose Osaka - Didn’t note down score but was around 4500-4600 Round 3 - I went Oxford in England, dunno why - 3544 Round 4 - Saw the Portsmouth on the van, from Australia so I spent forever looking for the city, found it - 4995 Round 5 - From Australia so the bins and cars looked familiar, from Sydney so went with western Sydney, fucked me over in the end - 549 Total 18588 Was good fun, will be playing more often :)
1. Perfect Score. Went 5m north than you 2. Osaka. Just guessed a N/S - E/W Grid 3. Perfect score. Remembered the area when i was in Edinburgh 4. Got impatient and went for an L shaped building near the port. Just over 1km away 5. Tossup between Cairns and Darwin. Went for cairns. 21033 in total.
First round: Knew it was South Korea. Didn’t bother looking for any specific and just went with somewhere in Seoul Second round: Knew it was Japan. I though it was Northern Japan and went for Sapporo. Third round: Though it looked Scottish and went for somewhere in Edinburgh by chance. Fourth round: Saw the Portsmouth clue and just went for somewhere in Portsmouth Fifth round: I was thinking Australia. I went for somewhere in Melbourne. 18234 points
Congrat's on your South Korea guess, It's sooo hard to get perfect scores in Asian rounds! So, I gave this game a try as well: Round 1: Figuered out quickly that it is South Korea for the writing which is acutally pretty distinct from other Asian scripts. Thought it looked like a big city so it left me with Seoul or Pusan. The vegetation made me go for Seoul. Didn't find the train station in a quick search, so I went next to a random north-south railway track. Pretty lucky guess - 4972 points Round 2: Obviously Japan. Saw the kentaku.net clue instantly, looked for it in hopes that this was a city, but obviously it wasn't. Went pretty far north because there were trees with no leafs, the sun was firmly in the south, and the whole appearance looked relatively north. Went for Sendai - 3524 points Round 3: Baaad round on my part. I'm not from the UK, so I don't quite know the difference in looks of city centers in Scotland vs England etc. I actually looked in the center of cities I thought to look "classical" like Oxford, Cambridge, Nottingham, and annoyingly also Edinburgh to find East Claremont Road but didn't find it, so I went for Cambridge as like a middleground. 3542 points. Annoying! Round 4: Didn't find Westminster Place (bud didn't spend too much time searching due to the bad round before), but I did find the city council which was mentioned on the vans. Clicked there. 4995 points, pretty good guess. Round 5: This is where it broke down for me. At first I thought Brazil, but then I saw we were driving left. Ruled out South Africa, Malaysia and stuff becuase it didn't look like it. Sun was fairly straight above us, so I thought it was somewhere north in Australia. Considered going for Cairns but didn't dare in the end, so I went for some place north of Brisbane. Only 679 points. Damn! 17712 points in total. Eeh, okay game for me. The third guess was really annoying for me, the fifth was not doable for ma as a Europan, and with the other three I'm pretty content.
Probably my best game ever, despite a horrible final guess. 19971 1. South Korea, obvious. I looked for train tracks running north-south in Seoul, recognised the Wonhyo street names on the left, the rest was easy. 5000 2. I can read kanji, so Nagoya East Ward was easy to understand, but that ward is the only one that doesn't appear on the map. Spotting the East Ward city council would have helped but clicked randomly, eventually. 4960 3. The architecture reminded my of some photos of Scottish towns, Edinburgh popped up first on the map. I found Claremont Park, so that made me search a bit longer. Right when I was about to give up, I found the right street. 5000 4. Swept through the map for any names resembling Westminster, no luck. Seemed to be impossible to pinpoint but I zoomed out, and there were hardly a few places with streets running in that direction. Zoomed in perfectly to the actual place. 5000 5. Streets could be American but the climate is tropical. Conclusion: I am doomed. Clicked in Hawaii. 11 (forgetting that Australia has very tropical area and not recognising that the cars are parked on the left was fatal)
Like wtf, I actually went for Darwin! Guessed it would be Australia given the cars parked on the left and it gave me an Australian Vibe. I looked at the shadows and they were almost directly under the cars and trees, so I went north and found Darwin. Never ever thought it would be correct. For the other rounds I got Seoul and Portsmouth correct, but that wasn't too hard. For Japan I went for Sendai and the other one in the UK for Manchester, had no clue it was Scotland. Overall 22466 points, I finally beat you! 😁
24518. Four 5k-able rounds, though I gave up a bit too soon on the Seoul and Portsmouth rounds. The good thing about r5 was that once you recognise the red licence plates, it doesn't take long to search for the location.
I live in Edinburgh so pretty exciting for me to get a geoguessr place I was familar with - first time ever! Can someone explain the compass to me, sometimes it makes sense, but for example in the Portsmouth round if you look up the street the compass points North West but on the map the street is angled in a North East direction?
I beat you ever so slightly at 19946 points, I got slightly luckier on the Japan round, because I could actually read the kanji on the signs, which said "Nagoya Eastern District" xD
First time I've ever beaten your score, and yep, only because I'm an Aussie and got +4200 points on you on the last round :P. Got 23033 total - a score I'll probably never beat. 1. Knew where electronics market was thanks to EXBC on Twitch lol, so this was an easy enough 5000 round. 2. No idea where in Japan, so just guessed greater Tokyo area. Decent enough score. 3. No idea where in Britain, so just guessed Nottingham. Average score. 4. Portsmouth on the vans made it easy enough to guess a decent score - actually got 4999 by just throwing it right in the middle of the joint. 5. Now, as an Aussie I'd never seen steel/metal Power line poles, and the same for red lid wheelie bins. Also it looked hot, the streets were wide, and the vegetation looked a bit average, probably due to the heat. So went with my gut and threw it in Darwin.
1. went for daegu not that bad 2. insane guess, closed in on nagoya, got 14km away 3. went for lisburn in nr, got a hunch it's not in england 4. got 1km away 5. scrambled at last with south africa, 3 points 18,389 points. first time nm challenge
19732. Nagoya was one of my all time best guesses 5000 points. Portsmouth was a gimme 4999. Screwed up on Darwin (knew it was Northern Oz, but went with Townsville instead) and Edinburgh (saw a wetherby area code and just assumed).
what on earth my sister literally lives 5 minutes away from that portsmouth round, and i knew what buildings he was talking about too. theyre really big and ugly with this weird rainbow-type pattern to try and spruce them up
20098, so didn't beat the Wiz by much. First round I just clicked Seoul because I felt like it and got lucky. Second round I spotted the kanji for Nagoya and something like "east side" so that one was pretty good. I guess it could be a good idea for serious player to memorize the kanji for the few biggest cities in Japan. It really helps me that I at least can read stuff like "Tokyo", "Osaka", "Hokkaidou" etc. Third round I just instantly recognized the Scottish houses but went for Glasgow. Fourth round I clicked in what looked like a residential clusterlike area and got really lucky and got 5000. Fifth round I completely buggered and clicked Philippines. Thought they drove on the left for a second.
Also, one thing that I think really tells me the houses aer Scottish is the big trench between the pavement and the block with walkways over them. You probably get them elsewhere in the UK but they are everywhere in Glasgow.
1. seoul korea judging by buildings and lettering 4989 pts. 2. japanese writing but no clue threw it into nagoya for pure luck of score 4998 pts 3. guessed glasgow as well ironically 4767 pts. 4. portsmouth fairly easy 4998 pts. 5. a bad score, do not recall the points.
17299. I was a little bit spoiled because my screen is big enough that I couldn't stop myself from seeing the first few comments, but I would've done pretty much the same thing even if I didn't get spoiled on the second round. 1. I waffled between Japan and South Korea on this one, but ultimately went for South Korea. I was feeling risky so I went fairly close to Seoul, but didn't even consider that we could actually be in Seoul itself. 4803. 2. Wasn't hard to identify this as Japan (I've gotten pretty good at telling between Japanese and Korean writing), but Japan is a big place and it's easy to get screwed. The climate seemed more mild to me so I figured we were in the south, and I ultimately went for Hiroshima because I've seen a few rounds in there before. 3721, not great but could've been a lot worse. 3. I knew this had to be Britain, but I never see Scotland pop in these rounds so I didn't even consider that we could be in Edinburgh. I really had no idea where we could be in Britain, so I went for Leicester because it's about halfway between London and Manchester. 4. This one was much easier, as we were given a city name right in plain sight. Didn't take too long to find Portsmouth and might've been able to get 5000 if I was more dedicated in searching every inch of the city, but I'm lazy so I went for a random spot in the north of the city and got pretty lucky. 4998. 5. I was COMPLETELY bamboozled by this one. I used the sun to determine we were in the southern hemisphere, but I was very confused by the trees and thought South America was the most likely candidate. I went for Bolivia and got zero points, turns out we were actually in Australia! I've never seen any trees like that in Australia, and while I briefly considered Africa as a possibility, Australia didn't even cross my mind.
052 is the dialing code for Nagoya, 042 or 03 is tokyo, 075 is kyoto, 098 okinawa, 06 or 072 osaku, 011 sapporo i don't think i've ever been in another city in geoguessr.
1. knew it was south korea, though thought it looked too small to be seoul, so went with incheon. Still close enough, so 4917 points. 2. recognised it as japan, though had no clue which city. Guessed osaka. 4541 points. 3. my home country! was thinking bath, then vaguely remembered one of the buildings in the background coming up in an edinburgh round i had. 4993 points. 4. The van saved me this round, as i'd have had no clue otherwise. 4996 points. 5. Guessed it was australia for the same reasons as GW, though played it safe and went east coast. fucked it: 537 points. overall 19,989, which for my first proper play along, and to have beaten the wizard i'm pretty happy about
1. I realized the Korean Writing so i went to Seoul and placed it randomly, quite okay score 2. Increadibly lucky: I was not sure if the writing on the sign was Chinese or Japanese, so i compared it to the City Names in Google Maps and found exactly the character I remembered and saw that all the other ones from the sign were also there in place... so i placed it in Nagoya and got a decent score 3. Looked scottish to me so I went for Glasgow... 50:50 Chance :P 4. Randomly clicked in Portsmouth, so obviously good score 5. I unfortunately went for South Africa and only got 3 points... completely ruined quite a good game but okay :) Total of 19735 points, not too bad for me though
Last one really tricked me... 1. Korea, decided to just go in the middle. Still a pretty good score of 4534. 2. Japan, didn't spend much time and went for the middle in Nagoya. This is an insane guess for me, only 2.4 miles away. 4986 points and as of this writing the highest score on this round! 3. Obviously UK, also didn't spend a ton of time. Decided to go for Leicester. Decent score. 3780 points 4. Also obviously UK, picked a random spot in Portsmouth after looking around in vain for Westminster Place. Actually ended up clicking very close by. 4997 points 5. RIP. Noticed it was near the equator and with the trees I thought tropical and went with Jakarta. 717 points :(
Beat you but only by luck! First one, took me a while to recognise the writing as Korean, but found the Park Stn. and got - 5000 Second one, lucky lucky guess in Nagoya bagged me - 4904 Third one, my worst. Had a hunch for Bath for some reason - 3475 Fourth, Spotted Portsmouth and went ever so slightly south than you - 4998 And Finally. My luckiest so far that I got this exact road before twice, and knew it was Darwin - 4973. First time round I guessed Sydney so Total - 23350, but can prob take off 3,500 for the Darwin
I ended up with 21,326 pts. I somehow got Japan & Taiwan mixed up. Strangely, the fifth round location is not far from where my uncle lives. Though I'm from the USA, I've visited him a few times and recognized it!
1 - 4.937 saw the writing, went near Seoul... I had a chance to find the exact spot due to the rails to the west, but I failed 2 - 4.557 no idea, went for Osaka, JP 3 - 3.433 no idea, went to the outskirts of London 4 - 4.997 saw Portsmouth in the van and went to the west of it 5 - 533 saw driving on the left + english writing in the grafitty, went to Melbourne 18.457, pretty bad xD
the Japan round is the most frustrating one you've done so far hahaha. the sign says Nagoya in big bold font, I was crossing my fingers you'd somehow figure that out
holy shit I beat him by 70 points. That last one was insane, just guessed some coastline city in Australia and ended up being about as wrong as he was...
I got 4999 for the South Korea one ... messed up in Japan too far north ... got Edinburgh (2km out) ... I was under a mile away in Portsmouth and hit lucky with a guess 2km away from the right place in Darwin. If it's got palm trees it's probably Darwin or Cairns.
For the first three rounds I had easily the best no moving game of my life. Managed to get within 40m of the first round thanks to the railway, got 1.5km from the second place with a crazily flukey guess (just figured it was a moderately big city in Japan), got the third dead on (didn't recognise the street, but it was unmistakably Edinburgh to me, to the point where I could figure out roughly where in the city it would be, then it was a case of finding the right road). At this point I was on 14995, normally as good as I get from all five rounds... So I knew my luck couldn't last. But then, lo and behold, a round in Portsmouth! Another 4998 on the board and I'm in absolute dreamland! Could I beat the wizard? And then, there it was. A round that I didn't have a f***ing clue about. South Africa, 2 points, a sub-20000 score and utter agony. This game is cruel.
LOL at the Japan round. "It's all in Japanese, for some reason."
Jeez, you'd think they'd realize some people are trying to play Geoguessr. Bunch of selfish people live in Japan I guess.
He meant there is no translation, its not common (i guess? I actually dont know)

3:11 "There's lots of dongs" - GeoguessrWizard, 2019
I was almost screaming at my screen that you skipped over the Hyochang Park Station so many times on the first round
So frustrating! Had to skip ahead
Those excruciating moments... until you realize that's exactly what happens to you too when you are playing Geoguessr not just watching someone else do it: the bloody name you've been looking for ages has been 3 pixels off your area of vision all along... :)
Yep, I somehow missed it too :-(
It's even more frustrating when you can clearly read "Nagoya" on the sign and it's like the third largest city.
Just wanted to comment saying that, although I was never into Geoguessr before the last week, I've absolutely binged your videos due to the entertainment and knowledge you bring. Hell, I rarely leave comments on videos but I just wanted to say keep it up man!
SAME I literally just found one of his videos the other day and not only am I addicted to watching them I'm also addicted to playing now lol it's actually a probelm I haven't gotten any work done all week
i'd recommend you to look for Geography Challenges as well, you'll learn a lot from his channel as well
Heads up for next time with the Aussie ones, if it looks tropical, it is probably within the tropics.
He even said it and I was like "mate you just said it looks tropical why are you going for Perth"
My exact thoughts were: It’s big, it’s Aussie, it’s tropical. Must be Darwin.
I mean in my mind Darwin isn't big, it has just over 100,000 inhabitants, right? But I guess only the northern parts of Australia can be classified as tropical.
On the second round, the sign actually had “名古屋” on it, which was Nagoya
can't believe he missed that tbh smh
BlackSpiderPro he doesn’t speak or read japanese (not sure if you’re joking or not)
At 10:47 the characters for Nagoya are both on the sign and on the map at the same time. If he had just slowed down a little...
Also had the area: "東区" or East Ward, maybe possible with the couple businesses around :)
"That looks too hilly." Immediately moves to a town whose name (Okayama) means "Hill Mountain".
My round was almost identical haha thats crazy
I guessed Oxford as well for the same reasons you did. Makes me feel a bit better about myself.
@@fatbob1999 Same goes for me
I also guessed oxford because of that, I forgot to bother checking the cars on the sides of the road and just guessed somewhere in swampy florida, 16k points
I know I am super late but here are my scores each round:
1) 4994 - 1.1 miles away
2) 4627 - 68 miles away.
That was painful to watch 🤦♀️
Also, I'm from Edinburgh so was shouting at my screen for that one too 😂 Have walked along that street countless times so that was fun to see a street I know pop up in one of your vids.
5000 points
2. Put it in Tokyo. 4167 points
3. Guessed South Hampton. 3325Points
4. Easy Clue Clicked randomly in Portsmouth 4993 points.
5. Clicked Brisbane AU and got 657 points.
Total points was 18142points
South Hampton? really? What an embarrassing giveaway.
Really impressive stuff!
The second one was a real shame, the signs you were looking did actually say the city and the district of the city you were in. 名古屋 Nagoya, and 東区 east district. Not blaming you for not knowing though!
had a long and good look around japan and only found this symbol 区 in and around tokyo. that cost me some points :D
OH my God I just got 268 m off on the Nagoya one, thats my craziest guess ever
No way 😂 I work for Mountjoy!! Hilarious seeing our vans pop up on here. Of course they were at the Grafton Street estate!
The Australia round was so tropical. I can’t believe you’ve done this.
1. 4992 points
Thought the writing looked more Korean than Japanese and just went for Seoul
2. 4522 points
This time the writing looked Japanese and I saw the black-yellow-striped-pole thing that Tom has talked about. Went for Osaka, not right but hey, close enough
3. 4150 points
Obviously Britain but had no idea what city. Thought the sea was at north and Edinburgh was the only city that correlated. Didn’t see the street name in Edinburgh and gave up and then just went for a random city (Leeds). Oh how annoyed I was…
4. 4993 points
Saw Portsmouth, found it on the map and just guessed in the center
5. 461 points
This was so confusing. The writing was English, driving was on the left. I was thinking Australia, New Zealand. But then I saw the sun was in the southern hemisphere so then I thought we were in the northern hemisphere. Then I just couldn’t find out where and went Singapore.. Not gonna trust the sun again
Full score: 19118 :) #213
1st: 200m off, nice guess. Found something with "Huang" and went for it
2nd: Osaka, so a bit closer than yours
3rd: Way off, saw a bus that said London on it.. Went for it, against all instincts
4th: 2 blocks away 4999
5th: Guessed northern philipines as there were a lot of Japanese and Chinese car brands. Rip score
My game:
Round 1: Korea based on the circles in the symbols, went for Seoul because its the biggest.
Got my record of 18954 despite only getting couplehundred points in the last round, even though I was in the correct country.
I'm addicted to these videos. i need help, but they are so entertaining.
15:26 when you go to the football on a Tuesday night and your dad asks what drink you want at half time
God damn the into scared me
Edit: I accept the apology.
5000 points
2nd round - Asahi - Japanese. Probably panicked after that - just went near Kobe for some of that tasty beef. 4445 - not bad considering the size of Japan
3rd round - Obviously Uk - assumed Edinburgh due to the cobbly roads (I know Edinburgh has them) and it has a city feel plus miserable weather - couldnt find the road in Edinburgh (didn't look hard so just guessed randomly there). Bugger I was 2 roads across! 4995
4th round - Uk again - complete shit hole by the looks of it . Portsmouth - lovely - clearly not the part on the sea. Just took a stab at any old street - couldn't find the street name or other obvious clues (even the name of that building that i did see) - 4994 points
5th round - bollocks - im not good going of plants and landscape. 527 points (shut up was it north west)
total 19962 - last round was a killer - wow I scraped a win!
4967 on round two when I choose a random spot in Japan, without even zooming in on the map. Luckiest guess I'll ever get lol.
Never played along before but I did this time…
Round 1 - I went Seoul but didn’t look around for long enough to find the exact location and went along a trainline on the other side of the city - Didn’t note down score but was around 4800-4900
Round 2 - I got Japan, went with a “southern city” so chose Osaka - Didn’t note down score but was around 4500-4600
Round 3 - I went Oxford in England, dunno why - 3544
Round 4 - Saw the Portsmouth on the van, from Australia so I spent forever looking for the city, found it - 4995
Round 5 - From Australia so the bins and cars looked familiar, from Sydney so went with western Sydney, fucked me over in the end - 549
Total 18588
Was good fun, will be playing more often :)
1. Perfect Score. Went 5m north than you
2. Osaka. Just guessed a N/S - E/W Grid
3. Perfect score. Remembered the area when i was in Edinburgh
4. Got impatient and went for an L shaped building near the port. Just over 1km away
5. Tossup between Cairns and Darwin. Went for cairns.
21033 in total.
First time I beat you! 22,890! I think it's because I am Aussie and I got a good score on the last round :)
My first business was called Come In Here, but vandals kept breaking one of the letters in my sign. Now the name of the business is Leave. 6:09
First round: Knew it was South Korea. Didn’t bother looking for any specific and just went with somewhere in Seoul
Second round: Knew it was Japan. I though it was Northern Japan and went for Sapporo.
Third round: Though it looked Scottish and went for somewhere in Edinburgh by chance.
Fourth round: Saw the Portsmouth clue and just went for somewhere in Portsmouth
Fifth round: I was thinking Australia. I went for somewhere in Melbourne.
18234 points
I got 14,930. I am learning a ton about places just by watching you
Love the creepy voice. Lots of Geoguessr videos have voices like that.
Salad Fingers doing your intro today?
immediately popped in my head when i heard his voice
Congrat's on your South Korea guess, It's sooo hard to get perfect scores in Asian rounds!
So, I gave this game a try as well:
Round 1: Figuered out quickly that it is South Korea for the writing which is acutally pretty distinct from other Asian scripts. Thought it looked like a big city so it left me with Seoul or Pusan. The vegetation made me go for Seoul. Didn't find the train station in a quick search, so I went next to a random north-south railway track. Pretty lucky guess - 4972 points
Round 2: Obviously Japan. Saw the kentaku.net clue instantly, looked for it in hopes that this was a city, but obviously it wasn't. Went pretty far north because there were trees with no leafs, the sun was firmly in the south, and the whole appearance looked relatively north. Went for Sendai - 3524 points
Round 3: Baaad round on my part.
Me knowing where the place is after searching for 20 minutes and Tom isn't finding it within 20 seconds: You bloody amateur
Woohoo first time I've beaten you. I guessed Darwin just because I know it's a bit more tropical than most cities in Aussieland.
Probably my best game ever, despite a horrible final guess. 19971
1. South Korea, obvious. I looked for train tracks running north-south in Seoul, recognised the Wonhyo street names on the left, the rest was easy. 5000
2. I can read kanji, so Nagoya East Ward was easy to understand, but that ward is the only one that doesn't appear on the map. Spotting the East Ward city council would have helped but clicked randomly, eventually. 4960
3. The architecture reminded my of some photos of Scottish towns, Edinburgh popped up first on the map. I found Claremont Park, so that made me search a bit longer. Right when I was about to give up, I found the right street. 5000
4. Swept through the map for any names resembling Westminster, no luck. Seemed to be impossible to pinpoint but I zoomed out, and there were hardly a few places with streets running in that direction. Zoomed in perfectly to the actual place. 5000
5. Streets could be American but the climate is tropical. Conclusion: I am doomed. Clicked in Hawaii. 11
(forgetting that Australia has very tropical area and not recognising that the cars are parked on the left was fatal)
Kentaku is a realestate company apparently. Also Perth is not tropical, it's desert
Adam Smith It’s not desert, the climate is Mediterranean, gets more rain than you’d think
Wow I lived down the street in Edinburgh for 4 months. Awesome to see that place in some of your videos :D
@@DadgeCity thanks but I understood it now
loved the pokemon tunes bit lol
1. went for daegu not that bad
2. insane guess, closed in on nagoya, got 14km away
3. went for lisburn in nr, got a hunch it's not in england
4. got 1km away
5. scrambled at last with south africa, 3 points
18,389 points. first time nm challenge
finally after about 50 of these games I get a higher overall score than you haha Great videos, hope to see you make more soon
19732. Nagoya was one of my all time best guesses 5000 points. Portsmouth was a gimme 4999. Screwed up on Darwin (knew it was Northern Oz, but went with Townsville instead) and Edinburgh (saw a wetherby area code and just assumed).
what on earth my sister literally lives 5 minutes away from that portsmouth round, and i knew what buildings he was talking about too. theyre really big and ugly with this weird rainbow-type pattern to try and spruce them up
11:37 Pokémon GSC surf theme 💛
0:01 man i wish they still have that random map feature
1. seoul korea judging by buildings and lettering 4989 pts.
2. japanese writing but no clue threw it into nagoya for pure luck of score 4998 pts
3. guessed glasgow as well ironically 4767 pts.
4. portsmouth fairly easy 4998 pts.
5. a bad score, do not recall the points.
The first 10 seconds you sounded like Alan Carr.
052 is the dialing code for Nagoya, 042 or 03 is tokyo, 075 is kyoto, 098 okinawa, 06 or 072 osaku, 011 sapporo
i don't think i've ever been in another city in geoguessr.
I got perfect on the Scotland one which for me is amazing. I guessed Scotland by building and had little look for the road name for a min and found it
Can tell its Australia just by the Red Wheelie Bins
1. knew it was south korea, though thought it looked too small to be seoul, so went with incheon.
5. Guessed it was australia for the same reasons as GW, though played it safe and went east coast. fucked it: 537 points.
overall 19,989, which for my first proper play along, and to have beaten the wizard i'm pretty happy about
1. I realized the Korean Writing so i went to Seoul and placed it randomly, quite okay score
2. Increadibly lucky: I was not sure if the writing on the sign was Chinese or Japanese, so i compared it to the City Names in Google Maps and found exactly the character I remembered and saw that all the other ones from the sign were also there in place... so i placed it in Nagoya and got a decent score
3. Looked scottish to me so I went for Glasgow... 50:50 Chance :P
4. Randomly clicked in Portsmouth, so obviously good score
5. I unfortunately went for South Africa and only got 3 points... completely ruined quite a good game but okay :)
Total of 19735 points, not too bad for me though
I remember when this channel had 900 subscribers...now it has 61,000?!
3780 points
4. Also obviously UK, picked a random spot in Portsmouth after looking around in vain for Westminster Place. Actually ended up clicking very close by. 4997 points
5. RIP. Noticed it was near the equator and with the trees I thought tropical and went with Jakarta. 717 points :(
Beat you but only by luck!
First one, took me a while to recognise the writing as Korean, but found the Park Stn. and got - 5000
Second one, lucky lucky guess in Nagoya bagged me - 4904
Third one, my worst. Had a hunch for Bath for some reason - 3475
Fourth, Spotted Portsmouth and went ever so slightly south than you - 4998
And Finally. My luckiest so far that I got this exact road before twice, and knew it was Darwin - 4973. First time round I guessed Sydney so
Total - 23350, but can prob take off 3,500 for the Darwin
You sounded like Salad Fingers in the beginning there :)
ping pong pang!! 😂😂
I ended up with 21,326 pts. I somehow got Japan & Taiwan mixed up. Strangely, the fifth round location is not far from where my uncle lives. Though I'm from the USA, I've visited him a few times and recognized it!
The last one was too tropical to be anything other than Darwin in Australia.
1 - 4.937
saw the writing, went near Seoul... I had a chance to find the exact spot due to the rails to the west, but I failed
2 - 4.557
no idea, went for Osaka, JP
3 - 3.433
no idea, went to the outskirts of London
4 - 4.997
saw Portsmouth in the van and went to the west of it
5 - 533
saw driving on the left + english writing in the grafitty, went to Melbourne
18.457, pretty bad xD
was that salad fingers at the start lol
2nd round looks a lot like the Hiroshima round you had once.
Almost every suburbian area of a big Japanese city looks the same.
the Japan round is the most frustrating one you've done so far hahaha. the sign says Nagoya in big bold font, I was crossing my fingers you'd somehow figure that out
literally zoomed in on hyochang dong with his crosshair on hyochang park. Must not have thought of it as a metro station?
France did have both yellow and white numberplates a long time ago, but you barely see those anymore
I got 17714. Got within like 50 miles for every single one except the last. Guessed costa rica, lmao-- couldn't be farther away
I guessed Hawaii lmao
I was on 19,500 points with the two UK ones almost spot on and guessing Seoul.
Guessed South Africa on the last one and got 2 points though!
The last round was an absolute killer.
holy shit I beat him by 70 points. That last one was insane, just guessed some coastline city in Australia and ended up being about as wrong as he was...
"Oh man if only it said what city we're in"..... Nagoya clearly written in Japanese lol
효창 (hyo-chang) = hee-oh-chang 😁 효 (hyo) is never pronounced like hai-oh
Lol, got the last one in less than a minute. my home town. Thats Railway Street, Parap. Darwin. NT. just behind the new United Servo.
2.3km away from the goal in Darwin on a complete guess! a score of 24156! I feel proud - I was too far North in Japan ... another complete guess.
AFAIK, Hong Kong and sometimes Singapore uses white(F)/yellow(R) number plates as well
Oh yeah, Singapore does have plates like that, and it also looks kinda British to people who aren't familiar with either.
Still beat GW though!
Him havind his curser over Hyonchang Park and not seeing it was hard to look at
"ohhh Wandsworth" ahaha
