Eh, the Genesis sound hardware always sounds too FM-synthy for me. It's fine for some styles of music, but the SNES soundchip was a lot more flexible and the fidelity was better.
@@cheesechoker The Mega Drive has a FM chip inside that's why it sounds FM. What part don't you get? If you don't like FM then don't listen to the Mega Drive version of Hyper stone Heist.

I got the original multi-track files that were on the SNES cart (from some site). Then isolated each track and recorded to WAV, individually. Re-layered them in Pro Tools. Duplicated some, and went from there--stereo imaging, equalizers, reverb, noise reduction, compressors, maximizers, panning, scooping, and probably some other stuff I forgot.
@@smallgay I got the raw SNES multi-track files, extracted each track (7 each song), then in Pro Tools I normalized and denoised. After that I duplicated the tracks and panned them independently to open the soundstage a little and give some tracks more breadth. Then comes "some filters". Widener, limiter, compressor, equalizer, low/high pass filters, reverb (actually pretty tight and mild) and a few others I can't remember since I made these years ago. Then I add an equalizer and painstakingly tweak every track (usually over 20) and every frequency range to get the right frequency layering. Finally comes mastering. This part can take hours on some tracks. Again, tweaking every track (again, over 20 usually), so the volume/amplitude is perfect. This includes adding modulation, automation, compressing and limiting. Then, let's not forget the hours of work I put into packaging with the background art. Then, I export in 24/96 (I capture the audio in 24/96, edit in 32/192) to give the clearest audio UA-cam will take. Boom. Mp3s and filters? I don't think so. Go grief somewhere else.

This really lets the SNES soundchip shine. Still think Sega did a better job with the Genesis soundchip overall but this is still awesome.
