If you're gonna be the leader of the ATF, we need to understand that we have somebody in there who is impartial and understands the importance of the second amendment.
Recently the Senate had a confirmation hearing for Dave Chipman who is Joe Biden's nominee for director of ATF.
This hearing lasted about 3 to 4 hours but during the hearing, Dave Chipman was grilled by a number of Pro Second Amendment Senators about his historical stances on the second amendment.
I aggregated all of the questions asked to Dave Chipman with respect to his stance on the second amendment and brought them all together and condensed it from 3 to 4 hours down to 30 minutes.

He said that an assault weapon is what Congress defines it as. That is the right answer. He shouldn’t be enforcing his opinions, just the laws as written. I don’t like the guy and I don’t like his views, but this was the right answer. It’s not the job of the ATF director to decide what an “assault weapon” is, or to enforce their opinion on the subject.

Also it is a a double edged sword, as IFF he gets the job Congress will often defer to him/her to make recommendations as to how Congress should define it.

That is because it is the job of congress to define what an assault weapon is when the law is created. We currently have no federal laws that define an assault weapon so he referred to a program within the ATF that defined an assault weapon as a rifle chambered larger than .22 and has a detachable magazine. He shouldn't have even brought that up and instead just pointed out that the term is a new category of firearm that is defined however congress wishes it to be defined if they pass a gun ban.
This does make a good point,... Who need to be creating definitions or weapons? ATF or congress. Several years ago a similar argument was made about the courts ruling on monopolies of dot coms. The point being they had no business DEFINING and ruling on that stuff. This is the same problem with gun definitions. Congress does not posess the techincical expertise to define what is or isn't. ATF should do that.
When politicians and bureaucrats tell us, over and over, how they feel, it behooves us to listen.

The pistols are heavy & feel like a brick but their VERY RELIABLE, CHEAP & ACCURATE. Used as a house gun or truck gun IMHO, but would never carry one, very heavy. Chipman said in a private meeting with Cruz that the data on the AWB is mixed. He is clearly referencing the data as an aggregate. Crus makes a vague reference to a paper without providing the title, publication, or authors of the paper. No one can for sure know which study Cruz is talking about because he didn't tell us. I don't understand how you could have been confused by this exchange.
There are plenty of other things of substance to focus on in this hearing.
