I'm not a supporter of either team, but I have been trying to think all day how we sort this mess out and I contacted an old science teacher of mine and he invited me to his workshop (retired, but has a laboratory in his backyard) and he was conducting wind speed tests based on the ones recorded at the time of the last kick off, disecting trajectories in terms of the attacking Cowboys player and the defefending Tigers player and his final conclusion (and this man has never made a mistake to my knowledge) is that Paul Kent deserves a one way ticket to Afghanistan to spurt his B.S to the Taliban and hopefully, for the sake of rugby league fans, get what he deserves.

this was all incorrect. Annesley admitted they all got it wrong. the main ref went to blow the full time whistle but stopped because Klein was telling the ref that cowboys still had a challenge remaining, not to award a penalty which led to townsend challenging it which shouldn't have happened. the ref hadn't blown a penalty, knock on etc no grounds for a challenge. Graham Annesely needs to be sacked along with Klein and the main ref of that game. Graham can't say that got the decision wrong then defend the refs. he's a brain dead flop
i hope tigers win this appeal and it should be a wake up call to the NRL and the refs to pull their heads out of their arses and actually do their jobs properly
100% if Cronulla wanted to challenge a play just after 80 minutes, refs would be completely ignoring it and would be game over. It'd be like "Nah mate it's full time, sorry".
It doesn't have to be a penalty in order to challenge... just a stop in play wich was when he blew tge short whistle ending the play...
Kepaoa was not on the field when the Cowboys kicked off. He cannot take any part in the play. If he does he is off side because he was standing off the field, he has to retire behind Dane to be onside. Check the replay everyone missed this.
@@timotyfinlayson9963 as i stated he didn't make a call for there to be grounds for a challenge. the "short" whistle is a load of rubbish and that's generally a knock on/lost ball which there wasn't. challenge is to challenge a referee's decision and there wasn't a decision here as butler didn't penalise them, the touchie and klein were fine with the play and not awarding a penalty so therefore it shouldn't have happened.

Whenever you start hearing the administrators of a particular sport referring to their game as a "Product" it sounds alarm bells that most of the time, the outcome will not solely be decided by the players involved in the contest . It's amazing that the Referees and their bosses names are so well known. Time and time again the referees and bunker decisions are the main talking point after games!! I guess every show needs needs a narrative, heroes, villians and controversy to keep the masses consuming said product.
Most of us know that underneath it all, the real reason for the introduction of the "6 again", "Bundaberg Rum Captains Challenge" ,The referee calling TRY or NO TRY before going to the bunker and SELECTIVE crackdown on contact to the head, is primarily to give the NRL more ambiguous reasons to influence games and to allow them almost infinite ways to justify why they did or did not call it a certain way. I for one am sick of hearing the NRL officials use lawyer speak and spin that insults human intelligence to weasel their way out of what is beyond incompetence in so many cases. No one is expecting perfection but we do expect a high level of consistency and a game that is ultimately decided by the players on the field!
There is a list of 48!!! Yes 48!!! Sports betting agencies on the NRL website www.nrl.com/operations/integrity/sports-betting/ all with the NRL seal of approval and many of which spend millions of dollars in advertising money with the NRL, its broadcasters and naming rights for stadiums. You can't tell me that when so much money is at stake ,they don't in any way have an influence on how the game is adjudicated!
At the end of the day the NRL marketing department know that when "our" team gets dudded by seemingly clear incompetence or dare I say corruption, Supporters of other teams will just label us and the players and coaches of our club as crybaby losers, point out to us the other bad calls that took place in the game and in previous weeks and then we will inevitably shut up and keep on watching.
So it may be just about time to face the reality that despite all of this, nothing is going to change. Every weekend we will keep our eyes fixed on the screen, we will keep placing our bets, keep buying our tickets and over priced beers, Kayo subscriptions and merchandise, and we will never lose hope that next year is going to be "our teams year" !

If you noticed during the interview with tigers chairman is he wasn't really interested in the bunkers decision because there's no legal ground you could challenge that to change result however they very much could on if challenge wasn't which allowed (which it's not despite annesleys mental gymnastics to say they could)
Kent is acting like Kapoa knows where the ball is going to land as soon as it gets kicked, he's literally running towards the the ball as soon as he realises where it's headed he turns towards that area, at no point was he looking at Feldt. I'm a titans fan with cows as my 2nd team and have no love for the tigers so a cowboys win is the result i wanted. The tigers were 100% robbed.

The challenge doesn't have to be against the referees call it cam be any infringement but only during a stopage...what is so hard to u derstajd about that ? Before the captains challenge the referee would have referred the incident to the bunker now its the players that do it.

The referees are killing the sport
The bunker is killing the sport especially when one actually goes to a game.Waiting on the bunker calls is just plain gut wrenching awful when your at the ground.
Just go back to taking the on field refs (with the help of touch judges for forward passes etc) call and accept it.Only use of TV should be for try scoring plays and then only two views and unless there is over whelming evidence to over turn the on field call just go with it.
Refs have been making mistakes for a 100 years and will continue to do so as they are human but they try their best so accept it and move on..All this technology has done is make it far worse.
It's amazing on how that players & coaches are held to account with teams performances week in, week out. But don't dare question the referees performance. Or cop a $10k fine.

The NRL under V’landys is corrupt at the core. Most games this year have had one team, usually towards the top of the ladder or having the home game being grossly favoured by the bunker and referees. It is ruining and turning many off from the game.

Precisely, well observed, Its not the ref's or the bunker that decide the outcomes of games. Now we are getting close to the finals it is getting more obvious that greater powers have already decided who will make the finals !! Big money at the TAB to be made.
1. The context is irrelevant. It doesn’t matter that the tigers were up or that they needed the win to avoid the spoon.
2. If a player does something potentially illegal in the very last play of the game that affects the opposition’s ability to score, then it doesn’t matter if the clock hits 80.00 - that infringement should still be punished. Or in this case, be able to be challenged. Which is what happened.
3. The ref was 100% right in holding off blowing full time until the bunker ruled on the possible infringement.
4. If there’s any viable protest here it’s against the bunker for finding that an escort had been run. It was Chaddy T’s right to challenge and the bunker is entirely responsible for what happened. And I’m afraid to say that Kent is right - whether it was an escort is not black and white. Therefore a totally fair thing to challenge.

But in that situation, they were not affecting the other team's ability to score. Even if he wasn't "obstructed" the game would have just ended after one tackle, or the Tigers just kicking the ball out. The guy wasn't even looking, ran into his back.

It mattered when the clock hit 80:00 in game one of Origin this year when Klein made sure NSW didn’t play on despite the ball being played just before he blew the whistle at full-time (ball being played is in play). He made sure no further play could continue despite the ball being played when he heard through the earphones game was over. Similar circumstances here time was over when Tigers player catches the ball it’s full-time and the player surrenders to the tackle game over. There was no infringement because Feldt took a dive but Klein allows play to continue unlike origin 1. He made the wrong decision here and cost the Tigers and it seems going by past ruling’s is inconsistent stopping play right on 80:00 and choosing to play on when it suits him. He had the video evidence showing clearly that Feldt took a dive. NRL is choosing who wins and who doesn’t like Origin and I’m a Qld supporter!
Origin Game 1 this year Ashley Klein made sure he blew the whistle ASAP on full-time making sure NSW could not play on any further yet the ball was played by the Blues. Why didn’t he stick to this same principle when time is up it’s game over when the ball is caught by the tigers but he allows the game to continue. Game time was over in Origin 1 according to Klein but here it’s not. Tigers should’ve won despite Feldt trying trying to be a farmer and milk it. It’s rigged.

So Annesley said that if the whistle is blown for full-time that opens up a captains call. So technically all games can have a captains call at the full-time whistle.
So that would mean a captains challenge can happen at the half-time whistle as well, no?

well im a cowboys fan and i agree on this that it shouldnt have been a penalty but when cowboys were about to score the tiger player stole the ball and was cleared all good but if you look at it properly there were 2 in the tackle if you say nah well there was a hand still on him so not a 1 on 1 strip that call was wrong and tigers scored just after from that
You are allowed to strip the ball with any amount of people in the tackle if the player is in the act of scoring, and since he was over the line, it was completely legal that the ball was stripped.
You’ll allowed to strip the ball if they are going for a try. Doesn’t matter if there was 5 players on him.
NRL always help the top teams while screwing the horrible sides every week just watch the Warriors get screwed against Melbourne this week.

That's a bit harsh. The players don't have liability for the decision. Both players had eyes only for the ball, and their legs collided, causing each of them to trip. I saw this on super slow motion. So there was no dive, it was a genuine collision where the legs got tangled. After seeing this end result, Chad Townsend had every right and reason to call a challenge and take a second look. I do believe it was a bad call. But ultimately the buck lies with the officials.

The situation was a total f!!!up and disgrace and should not have happened... If the whole of the NRL community saw that it wasn't an escorts after viewing multiple video replays, then how on earth did the video ref with 2 plus million dollars worth of video equipment get it wrong.

I’m a cowboys supporter, and we were well within our rights to ask for the challenge, so everyone saying “but it was after the siren”, that doesn’t matter, the referee called a stoppage whistle, NOT a full time whistle, so the play was still “live” in that sense, HOWEVER, the call itself was wrong, there was not strong enough to justify an escort, the challenge was allowed in the circumstances but should’ve been unsuccessful.
Annesley, Klein and Vrandy should man up and step down instead of making excuses
I've had a gut-full of these incompetent buffoons running this game like it's not a professional, international sport. Annersley should be fired immediately for his interpretation of the rules, phone call to Sheens and his public comments regarding all. "The only decision that can be challenged are ones which involve a structured restart of play (e.g penalty, scrum, drop-out, etc.); Challenges will not be permitted where the referee allows play to proceed." Annersley justified this by stating the penalty was the structured restart of play. Yet the rule states you can only challenge a decision which involves the structured restart. The referee didn't make a decision. There was nothing to challenge. Then Annersley goes from bad to worse by completely contradicting himself and throws the bunker official under the proverbial bus. “These are matters of judgement from the officials but on review this morning we just don’t believe there was enough to award the penalty and that the on-field challenge should have been dismissed by the Bunker as an unsuccessful challenge." If we ignore the fact the bunker should not have been asked to get involved, he would be right in saying these are matters of judgement. Running an escort is a judgement call. It's not something black or white like a ball being grounded for a try or a foot touching a sideline. So Annersley got that part right.. Then in the same sentence he goes on to say they got that judgement wrong! That's diabolical and I hope Klein has the guts to say as much when he gets dropped for a week.. or even if he doesn't.
Cant believe that was worth 2pts in the game, even if felt got it, as if he would score a try. Those types of plays happens every week.

It’s not a stuff up , it’s the nrl controlling the results for the good of the game. New qld team in next year , hey presto , consistently bad qld teams suddenly at top of table . Interest in footy goes back up good for the game. Every week there’s bad decisions being made that make sure the right team wins , generally it’s just not so obvious. Where are the titans good decisions then? they've been on the receiving end of a few bad decisions but none in their favour. Also cows and broncos are normally up the top, it's only rebuilding periods they've had to go through. Cows after losing JT as well as Michael Morgan and Lachlan Coote. Broncos after Bennett left been trying to sort themselves out. But both clubs have been in the 8 consistently the last 15 years or so.

this is a harsh call, a collision between two guys who's eyes are fixed on the ball from start to finish, I understand the player wants to contest the catch but if everyone is staring at the sky and there is a collision that cannot be helped. That's just to roll of the dice. If the Tigers player had checked for the location of the Cowboys runner and altered his run to suit then yes, but that doesn't happen in this case.

But if you watch any other instance of this type of collision and the first thing that is asked is where are the eyes of the receiving teams players, is he aware of the line or changing his line to match the chaser. I have 100% seen these given. But this nowhere near one of the worst, the players eyes are fixed on the ball, he doesn't deliberately change his line. I can't call this an escort henceforth.
