one human language to another can be done coz they are based around the same principles and originate from the same Species. They are very complex. Because we are too.
According to dog trainers, they don’t actually speak a language to each other. They convey meaning through the type of sound. As in the sounds they make are directly related to their feelings in that moment… hungry, upset, defensive etc.
if you were to play around with a young dog that isn’t mature enough to know when they accidentally hurt someone… instead of yelling at it or threatening it, whimper instead. Watch how the dog reacts… it will instantly calm down and come over to see if you are alright…. If that isn’t communicating then I don’t know what is..

We understand probably as much as they do. Every pet or animal owner knows what their animal is feeling alot of the time or know when they are asking to go outside or whatever. There's lots of two way communication. The animals also don't really 'understand' most likely, they learn an association that goes with a sound that they can recognize just like we do. We know the difference between purring and hissing, or a playful bark and an angry dog based on body language and intonation

Calm down everyone. Dogs, cats and most other land animals don't have a language. More like body language, which is a very basic one and can't really be translated and communicated. While whales and dolphins use actual audible language... which we can't possibly understand and AI can't help much, because it is not just about listening. Crucial part is observing everything that these animals do while, before and much after they communicate. Every tiny thing ..and you can't really serve that on a plate to AI. Animals in captivity don't communicate much, if at all ..and captivity automatically excludes majority of things they are doing and communicating about anyway.

Have documented cases of Gorillas learning to communicate with Human Sign Language. They don't have the physical structure to mimic our sounds in the same way but memories, thoughts, ideas, reasoning is all there if the environment allows for it. Same with humans. THIS has been the most interesting, thought provoking headline I've seen this morning! *THANKS JRE Moments!!*

Then the whole damn thing starts over but there's probably a normal distribution as to what the next universe will be like. See though that means we're the universe, well part of it. So non-supernormal weird stuff possible maybe possibly perhaps? Or in reality for the sake of harmony we'll have to either abandon our doctrines and merge to one. If ASI is aligned, we will be too. It's just a coin flip how. The good news is a very specific outcome you're worried about may be exceptionally mathematically unlikely.

Dolphins and Whales use it as sonar to pinpoint objects/ships.. this is fascinating, Im going to follow Tristan and Aza to stay up to date on this.

This is fascinating. I was watching some videos about how zoo gorillas didn't know how to reproduce because they only learned how by growing up with natural gorillas, and that made me realize that animals have culture. So at least some animals having culture and language definitely creates a different understanding. It would be really good to use that knowledge to reflect on how our own artificial environments and social structures are affecting us. Like, it's crazy to me that we care about how factory farming affects animals but we don't think about how factory work affects humans. And frankly, our whole society is pretty factory-ized. Like suburbs seem like a very factory type way of living.

I had an old theory that I wonder if any country (China or Russia) ever explored. I remember watching a documentary on feral children who were raised by dogs or primates, and they could speak and do the body language of those animals. I remember one girl was literally communicating with her dog family and jumping around and growling, barking, etc. It made me wonder if any country with less humane morals have tried experiments where they raised children from birth with animals in carefully controlled settings, but then taught them human language slowly. The child would grow up and eventually become bilingual and a translator between the animals and the humans. Completely messed up, but we know what kind of messed up things countries have done in the name of "military" and "science". They already have trained dolphins and whales for ocean missions... so I don't think this is that ridiculous of a theory.
