The bike is coming along nicely! Looking forward to what the finished product will be. The m-unit is definitely the way to go, my k100 is so much neater with it installed.
- The illestrator - it definitely has its challenges, basically I split the harness into two parts, one part was the stuff to run the bike (ignition, spark, timing, charging, etc.) And then put new wires in for the lights, bar controls and dash. You just have to figure out what you can cut out and what you need from the big black box. For the starter system I kept the starter relay and have the m-unit supply the relay with voltage, that way you can use motogadget buttons to switch the bike on and off. With injection it's basically running the same wiring and timing stuff from the original wiring setup, you need to keep the little back box behind the headset and also the ECU. There are also a few other things in that big black box that are crucial to having the bike run. Hope that helps.
I like the look of the current headlight over that weird Harley one, re the front discs ,galfer discs are like bellybuttons man, forget the ones you have look totes cool! Hope the work situation levels out, I'm sure all your followers are cool with giving you some slack, don't sweat it, I'll be here and thanks for entertaining me so completely, cheers
you can get that top fork tube nut out you need a center stand with a torque wrench 16mm socket with breaker bar all can be found at home depot or harbor freight if you broke broke like me and do not compress your forks or you will blow your forks seal and then you need to replace the dusk cover sear spring rate reload rebound compression

loving the build bro, and for the brembo calipers. you can use the ones off of the newer gsxr bikes. just need to buy the spacers from twf racing for them to work.
I had considered that, but I really wanted brand new ones so I wouldnt have to service them or anything ..and if they come off of a bike then they've been used you know?
Inverted forks are better left to a specialist, plus the springs inside are probably going to need to be replaced. They're length and rate should be measured to be sure. From the amount of oil to the valving, these are precision parts. They're a little more complicated than popping out seals an replacing. Just spend the few bucks to have it done by a pro, you don't want to have to have this job redone in 2 months anyways. Wish I had time to build something like your project, nice job man👍👍

You've kicked ass on this project so far, go for it 👍🏍️
Everyone in motorcycle world takling about M50 Brembo brakes but, man brembo is not alone at the top of the top, here in France we Beringer wich provides really efficient brakes.
The M50s only come in 100mm bolt pattern with 30mm offset. Your best option is the M4's that come stock on the GSXR, those are 108mm bolt pattern with 22.5mm offset and will bolt right up wo the 310mm rotors without any spacers. If you go 320mm wave rotors you will need to caliper spacers and new bolts. Not worth it in my option as it make taking the caliper off a massive biznatch. Also, look into getting brembo master cylinders. The Ducati streetfightrer came with Brembo PR18's stock and has the naked bike style fluid reservoir. If you have a hydraulic clutch you can use the Brembo PR15 clutch master for that to match so long as your clutch uses brake fluid and not the Magura style mineral oil.
Sounds like you got a lot of work left on it. It takes time, we understand bro. I suggest getting a new rear wheel tho. The condition might affect balancing.
replace the throttle bodie tubes yourself, when you take tank off for painting do it then, Buy rubbers online , get the clips from a Suzuki shop, cheapest way
Well the tank will have to be done last because if I do it now and leave it outside it may affect the finish. The throttle bodies are not going to be fully replaced, they will be rebuilt by a pro. Only the rubber bits need replacing.
It's a shame you probably can't get wire wheels for it, that would look dope with the single sided swingarm and like a diamond knockoff. I like the look of no front fender, but you ride all weather, so that really wouldn't be ideal. And I do like the tape on the headlight, so even if you replace, maybe consider doing the tape again, IDK I dig it. Why did I sell my CB750's? Maybe I should sell my Blackbird lol.
You can make wire spoked wheels work here, it's been done before with GS wheels but I personally didn't want spoked wheels as they arent really aggressive enough for the look I want.
I won't be riding this in the rain at all, but I don't want the sand and stuff that gets kicked up to scratch anything around the bike so a fender would be smart. Im definitely gonna keep the tape
@@ryanchase9746 absolutely not, maybe if my Bird wasn't complete, but mine is stock with just a full Japanese titanium single exhaust (not Yoshi lol), some Pazzos, a Puig double bubble, full LED conversion, and a Factory Pro carb kit and 4° Advancer wheel... nothing is missing or damaged, and she's a first year (96 built) with 25k miles...all original parts are here too.
Where did ylu gdt the rear suspention kit? I saw a video made about some guys in douth America somwere that designed a very simalar set up..but no word on how to aqiure it...i have a 96 k1100 im working on and would love to get my hands on it..is a kit available?
I like the plan. I think the bike is going to turn out great. Do you have dates for when your going to do these different things to the bike or will it just be done sporadically over the winter
Oh no this must be finished before the winter. Im not keeping this thing outdoors so I have to finish it for fall and tuck it away. I don't have dates but I have a few financial obligations I've neglected in favor of this project. By the end of this month I'll get wrenching again.
For those fork seals, try to clean them first, they might just have some schmoo in there. They sell a tool called a Seal Mate, but you can make one out of a plastic bottle. I've successfully used one I made to save a couple sets of forks. At least buy some time to focus on other things. ua-cam.com/video/S5L2K2PXGtA/v-deo.html
I'll be honest, I'm sure the fluid in these forks are disgusting anyway with whatever crap is in there. I know about the plastic tool but it would be a good idea to service these forks either way.
Yo man, loving your project so far. I'm currently working on a k100rs cafe racer myself and have come up with a solution for hiding all of that electrical junk in a much cleaner way, but without spending a shit ton of money on motogadget stuff. I don't have many tools, but with an angle grinder, some sheet metal and a soldering iron, I've hidden all that stuff. I can send you some photos of what I've done via Instagram if you want, just give me a shout 👍
@@Theillestrator1050 Yeah, if I could afford it I would have definitely gone down the m unit route. They look awesome. Just too steep for me. Enjoying your project so far anyway buddy, great work!
The rear caliper is going to be simple, I can recommend Brake Crafters, what I used to rebuild the front calipers on the CB700sc. British company with a guy out of Arizona I think shipping American and you used to get a discount with your first purchase. With the brake lines, there are a lot of companies that make good products, I went with GalferUSA because they give their workers Monday off to ride. They are affordable, have pretty quick turnaround on the manufacturing side, and very good customer support and service. I think the double banjo at the master cylinder would look better, my opinion. Totally get ride of that rear wheel. Also my opinion, go with the funky rectangle headlight, it would look so fucking cool dude, so cool. Also, good Ducati video. Edit: By double banjo bolt I mean just have two lines running to the master cylinder instead of across like it is. You could also get a block that you could bolt under the triple tree, then one line from the block to the master cylinder.
I know what you mean with the double banjo set up, I ran that set up on my SV1000. For that reason I was leaning towards that setup but ultimately its whatever looks cleaner. I plan to go with Core moto as I have gone with them historically. If I can find a 20 dollar square option just to see how it looks, I'll pick one up
@@Theillestrator1050 Bet money that it would come with the kit. If it didn't, it is just an aluminum block tapped with whatever thread your banjo bolts are using. Truthfully that is the best as far as form with function. Most that I have seen are bracketed to the bolt that connects the headlight to the triple tree.
Yo I really like your ideas. Especially with the golden front wheel. Maybe you could make them color opposites. Everything that is golden in the front ist black on the back wheel. For the fuse box. I would still make waterproof. U don't want any shorties. Aaand a video idea. Maybe go to the powder coating shop and ask if you can film there because that would be really interesting. Other then that good nerves going through the waiting process for your parts. That's always the hardest part:D Then I was finished earlier then you.
I'll see if my guy is up for having me film the process of powdercoating, if nothing else I can just film around the shop a little. Sometimes you gotta tear it down to build it up... twice lol
@@Theillestrator1050 yeah Better do it right then just put everything together using zip ties :D You got some experience with that. I bet it will turn out even better Everytime you have an idea
hey bro! we do powder coating all the way out in England. if you want an international touch to your bike lemme know since i figured a Euro bike in america couldn't get anymore international. we have a crazy selection of colours so get in touch so we can work something out.
Thank you for the insight. Certainly things to consider!
Sounds like you got a lot of work left on it. It takes time, we understand bro.
I suggest getting a new rear wheel tho. The condition might affect balancing.
Yeah im gonna be proactive about any potential problems that wheel damage COULD bring... its served its purpose.
Good update. That front tire on backwards, tho?
If you want my K100/motogadget wiring diagram for the fuel injection let me know :-)
Oh for sure man, when you get a chance could you send me a link to it via Instagram?
replace the throttle bodie tubes yourself, when you take tank off for painting do it then,
Buy rubbers online , get the clips from a Suzuki shop, cheapest way
Well the tank will have to be done last because if I do it now and leave it outside it may affect the finish. The throttle bodies are not going to be fully replaced, they will be rebuilt by a pro. Only the rubber bits need replacing.
@@Theillestrator1050 i gotta ask what he intends to do with the rebuild? Oh. I have several k bikes.
Hi ! where can i find the The Café Racer Bible from retrorides ? Tks !
Hey my man, I’ve been a sup for awhile now, just got myself a K1100 LT! I was wondering what video do you go into detail on the airbox delete? Thanks
How does the retrorides rear suspension platform handle in comparison to other bikes you've ridden.
Yeah work comes first, and this build will take as long as it takes I'm not going to lose interest, it's cool.
To an extent lol...I gotta finish this thing in time for the fall because the winter will suck for wrenching and things will corrode outside!
Keep up the good work I really enjoy your videos. Alan Northern Ireland 👍
Thank you buddy
looking good nice update :)
Thanks
How about a streetfighter Blackbird
@@Theillestrator1050 ah you wanna go full restomod with new looking goodies on an old bike...I get where you're going now.
Just on the other side of work cock blocking projects for a month personally, no worries on the delays man, really .
Lol! The shit we go through...
Nice job man, which forks are those?
I like the plan. I think the bike is going to turn out great. Do you have dates for when your going to do these different things to the bike or will it just be done sporadically over the winter
Oh no this must be finished before the winter. Im not keeping this thing outdoors so I have to finish it for fall and tuck it away. I don't have dates but I have a few financial obligations I've neglected in favor of this project. By the end of this month I'll get wrenching again.
@@Theillestrator1050 cool good luck
For those fork seals, try to clean them first, they might just have some schmoo in there. They sell a tool called a Seal Mate, but you can make one out of a plastic bottle. I've successfully used one I made to save a couple sets of forks. At least buy some time to focus on other things.
ua-cam.com/video/S5L2K2PXGtA/v-deo.html
I'll be honest, I'm sure the fluid in these forks are disgusting anyway with whatever crap is in there. I know about the plastic tool but it would be a good idea to service these forks either way.
Hi, good start!
Juste a question, where have you find the rear shock support?
Cafe4racer.eu
10 more hours?! Wow. Keep grinding tho bro!
I'll keep that in mind once I reach that point. At the moment im still set on the M-Unit as I'm a big fan of the features despite the dumb pricing
@@Theillestrator1050 Yeah, if I could afford it I would have definitely gone down the m unit route. They look awesome. Just too steep for me. Enjoying your project so far anyway buddy, great work!
fuckn sick bike bro, keep the sound the same with the new exuast it sounds sick
Loud and proud lmao
Trevor Ditson did my throttle bodies for cheap and they look great. Also how much for the clutch pushrod?
You want it? 15 bucks
Yes sir
You should do the wheels the cbr1000rr bronze color. And also you should do a history of the Honda VFR
Sooo.. any plan for the seat/tail part? Its looks much better now without the last one XD
I will have to make a seat myself and then have a shop upholster it. Been knocking around ideas of how I will do it.
Damn this project is becoming very expensive very fast. But I like it! Cheers!
It really is... if it were cheaper, I wouldn't mind the ratty look but I don't see the point in having a ten thousand dollar rat bike 😂
That's always the hardest part:D
Then I was finished earlier then you.
Love my dude, keep up the good work and ride safe.
I appreciate the offer, but I actually have a buddy around the corner from me who does powder coating for me lol
@@Theillestrator1050 ahhhhh cool man. Would've been awesome to get to work with you. You ever need some work done in the future drop me a message. Always available to do work for you my dude 👊 again, keep grinding!
Thanks man, maybe a tiny windshield/fairing around the headlight, really tiny.
If I can get one for super cheap I'll pick one up to atleast see how it looks
Make a video on Yamaha v max.
You thought about putting spoked wheels on? also check this guy out, digitalpizza, the fellas basically got step by step instruction on how to strip and rebuild a CBX engine
it's been done before with GS wheels but I personally didn't want spoked wheels as they arent really aggressive enough for the look I want.
Yoooooo early morning upload let’s go
😎
Use the broad headlight
I assume you meant the VROD headlight?
You can buy a tool to compress the springs to get the damper lock nut off for like $20-30. I bought one to do mine... I can let you use mine if you pay shipping but it would be half the cost of the tool to ship to you and then back. Here is the link to the tool I have.

Thanks for the link!
2:34 "front to back" ..... 😉
I think your front tyres on backwards.
No it's the right way, it's a rain tire.
is the front tyre backwards?
No, it's a rain tire so the tread is reversed.
@@Theillestrator1050 oh, it just looked weird see the rear
The logic manufacturers use is that the front wheel is more for steering and braking so it should be reversed up front for the wet.
@@Theillestrator1050 got it. thx
First of all, is the engine an upgrade from your fz?
I mean to say is, is this faster than fz when its done
No not even close. This bike only has 5 gears and like 80 something horsepower at the wheels.
what forks do you have i want to upgrade my k100
2004 gsxr600 forks
You do NOT want raw aluminum. At the LEAST get it clearcoated, raw aluminum basically slowly oxidizes into white powder, and it will look horrible.
Well yeah i feel like the clearcoat is implied here 😆
I like the bright yellow. I think it contrasts really well with the darker, dingier colors of the body.
Yeah alot of people were saying that...I'm gonna try some stuff in photoshop soon with the colors
