- In this video I explain what you need to know about light dependent resistors, LDRs or photoresistors: what they are, how they work and the typical specifications or parameters associated with them.
Photo resistors or light dependent resistors, are very useful components and in this video I'm going to describe the essentials about these useful electronic components.
Light dependent resistors, LDRs photo resistors or whatever you want to call them are a form of resistor that's sensitive to light, - they change their resistance dependent upon the light level.
You may see them pop up in circuit designs from time to time. They have a quite unique circuit symbol. There are two types that you may see.
Light dependent resistors are made from semiconductor materials but they act as resistor. They have a very distinct difference between the light and dark resistance values and this makes them very useful.
However there are a few points to note about the use of these photo resistors or light dependent resistors.

Nicely put. Your videos are well made and very informative. Very good tutorials, especially for beginners in electronics. LDRs are really useful, though the only downside is their response time as you mentioned.
Thank you very much! I'm glad the video was useful and I really appreciate your comment.
Very good. The dark resistance can be as high as 20Mohms for some LDRs and commonly is above 1Mohm for most LDRs I've used. Amazingly useful little devices!
Yes it is possible to get some LDRs with very high dark resistance levels, but I wanted to give figures for more average devices. Thanks for the comment.
Very good!👍👍👍
Really glad you found the video useful. Thanks for your comment.
also describe axle benz formula
That would be good to incorporate into a video about LDR circuit design. Thanks for the idea.
