The LONGEST Sprint - Tour de Murrieta Stage 1 Breakdown

We headed out for an omnium weekend at the 2023 Tour de Murrieta. This is Stage 1, the criterium stage. In this video I break down my 6th place finish to lock up 7th overall in the Omnium heading into Stage 2 the circuit race. This bike race is a 50 minute criterium and once again, this one ended in a field sprint.
This course is an L-Shaped course and it's notorious for it's almost 500 meter drag to the line into a pretty stark cross-headwind. Your positioning is so important in any criterium but this one in particular. I was able to find a protected lane and gain some positions, staying on the pedal and locking up 6th in the field sprint.

The winner started from 4th in a line with a lead out. But I gess the difference is you started farther back 10th but had a draft the whole time

Yeah I knew this was a long sprint and looking back I think I needed to be probably two wheels further forward than where I was at and maybe I’d have snagged a podium spot instead of 6th. Hindsight, though. 🤷‍♂️
