The first time I burned my eyes was at 20-ish when I was holding ductwork for my boss to weld. I really wanted to learn the trade, so I watch carefully everything he was doing. Unfortunately, he wasn't very good at letting me know when he was about to actually touch the stick to the job, so I got flashed a LOT. It didn't really bother me until about an hour before quitting time when I started having to blink a lot. By the time quitting time rolled around, the regular light of the day felt like spikes directly into my eyes. Luckily, my boss noticed and intercepted me on my way out before I could get on my *motorcycle* to go home! I am so thankful he drove me home that day because about 5 minutes later I couldn't keep my eyes open at all.
Rough start to a welding career! It's incredible how quickly and intensely those UV rays can affect your eyes. Lucky for you, your boss stepped in when he did. A good reminder of how important safety gear is in that environment.
Hey, I am from a global consultancy firm working with a client on a project regarding Laser Tools and Equipment Sector to understand your perspective on the system. Would you be interested in having a paid consultation call? If your geography is United States, Germany or France you can reply to this message I'll provide more information.
This should definitely be a series. I bet it could take off and draw a lot of attention to the channel and the school in turn. Id love to learn to weld, im 37 though with a disability. Dont know who would bother hiring me. I have thought about trying to find a shop and seeing if I could "intern" there just to learn for myself. I really want to know the skill. Anyways, loved the video.
That's awesome to hear! Welding is a fantastic skill to have, and age or disability shouldn't hold anyone back. An internship is a great way to get started. Many shops are open to teaching, and there are also community colleges and vocational schools that offer welding courses. Don't give up on your dream!

Those first welds ive seen thousands of times on ranches and farms 😂 booger welds everywhere. Currently grinding off and rewelding a bunch of the welds on a stock trailer we recently bought.
@@rais6036 oh i know how it happens 😅 pretty fun to watch. Rancher hires high school kid to weld stuff up for them because they are cheap labor, he sets up and starts welding over rust and cobwebs with the machine turned down way to low, blames "this god damn cheap chinese steel", thinks if they can just layer enough junk welds it should hold, gives it the ol wiggle and says "that should hold it", tells the rancher "she aint pretty buts shes strong", kid gets paid and leaves, eventually a cow bumps its, rancher swears, hires another high school kid to come fix it, rinse and repeat.
at least for the past 30 years if you've worn prescription glasses all the lenses have had 100% UV protection... had Lasik in my 30s ... 1st flash burn to my eyes happened a year later ...

1:25 he's a psychic welder, he's been blind his whole life, but give him welding gear and he will weld like no one else
The very first weld is me not giving 3 or 4 fxcks while welding exhaust pipe with a shxtty harbor freight welder 🤣🤣🤣🤣
First weld: chaos and sparks.
they are holding hands under the table

Booger welds are the worst!
How do they even happen you can't look at that and say yeah that looks good enough 😂

UV protection doesn't guarantee safety from welding flashes.
@@WesternWeldingAcademy of course not .. but it damn sure helps lol
Cold tea bags work for me when I flash
Cold tea bags, huh? That's a unique remedy for a flash burn. Glad you've found something that works for you!
they definitely work! It's like having a mini ice pack in your eye lids.
4:50 im betting that's a 6013 or something other than a 70 rod.
🤔🤔
Seeing Colton and thinking I'm watching Travis Kelce judge welds :D
Tea bags on your eyes. Get four and switch them around from the refrigerator so they keep cold.
more of these!
You got it! Stay tuned
im very new to welding but holy hell its harder for me to do as bad as these than good like i have try to be that bad and it would still be hard
Don't give up! Welding is definitely a skill that takes time! Keep practicing and you'll get there.

They're not welders beards nowhere near long enough
Just because they don't have beards no where near long enough, doesn't mean they're not welders, I bet they can weld better than you.
LMAO who told welders should only have long beards
@@WesternWeldingAcademy I don't know who, but I'd sure like to find out.
As a farmer with a long beard... welding sucks with a beard that reaches past your mask...burnt hair smell lingers
