I loooove old graphic design books too. There was a period of true freedom in it, and sometimes you can find layouts that just break all the rules in the best ways! If you really want to get the lip piercing , make sure that you get it in a spot that will hide or disguise the hole. Right along the vermillion border or tucked slightly under where the bottom lip protrudes from the chin area is good. It can get gnarly during the healing phase, especially since the mouth is so dirty (we can't help it). ALSO please educate yourself on the facial nerves in the area that could be effected, and always go to a certified piercing salon. Self-modification is cool, just educate yourself and stay safe :)

I'm not sure about a real lip piercing. A nose stud would look better, they're easier to hide for work, too (I chopped off the thin plastic bit from a t-shirt tag and use that when I'm at work. Nobody has ever noticed it!😊)
The lip piercing is cute but imo I think it would best to keep using the fake one (you could still get others to experiment w the placing too like one of the comments suggested) just so you have the option to wear it when you feel like it rather than all the time.
