  • An husband who strangled his wife for having an online affair and dumped her body in a river was jailed for at least 22 years.
Aminan Rahman, 46, attacked 24-year-old Suma Begum at the couple's flat in Docklands, east London, during a video call with her boyfriend.
Rahman put her into a suitcase after choking her, at which point she might still have been alive.
Rahman, a chef formerly of Bridgwater, Somerset, was convicted of murder following a trial at the Old Bailey. He had earlier pleaded guilty to a charge of preventing a lawful burial.
The judge, Mr Justice Bennathan, gave Rahman a life sentence and set the minimum term before he can apply for release on licence at 22 years.
He said the victim was "a lively, attractive young woman and a devoted mother."
The judge: "She had dreamed of a new, different life with a man her own age which dreams you stopped on April 29 last year when you very deliberately killed her.
"Within moments of strangling Ms Begum, you folded her body into a suitcase and threw it into the Thames basin, hoping it would never be found.
"All this was done in the sight of her two year old son."
