i know im asking randomly but does someone know a tool to log back into an Instagram account?? I somehow lost my account password. I love any tips you can offer me
You neglected to mention the best part - being able to smack your minions to hurry them up. All the sounds and the spells I'd forgotten about gave me a nostalgia trip like never before. I played the hell out of this game when we first got a computer. Reinstalling it now, thanks!
Take a look at War for the Overworld. It has some flaws, but it's THE spiritual successor to DK1. I like it a lot better than DK2, even though the creatures are not as endearing. Nostalgia is impossible to beat though. Take a look and pick it up on sale at least, you will not regret it :)
try slapping horned reaper. first thing you get is : your creatures are getting angry, and then theres nothing stopping that unit to go on murderous trail killing everything he comes accross. fun times....
still very playable with KeeperFX today, love the dark and stylized theme of the first game that was lost on DK2 and subsequent inspired titles. gameplay feels faster than DK2, creatures have more unique roles and sound effects are more satisfying (Bile demon farts, imp sounds, Demon Spawn screams). this game has personality! "Creatures all work harder when another creature is being tortured in the Torture Chamber. In addition, it also causes any creatures of the same type to take only 50% of their wage at the next payday." Evil is good.
DK was one of my all-time favorites growing up. In many ways I prefer it over the sequel, even though they did add a lot, I just like the creepy, darker presentation and the harshness the original game exuded over the more cartoony and easy-going DK2. I'd argue Bullfrog was probably the most creative game developer ever.
Great video! I've been bingeing your videos for the past week now and I just can't stop rewatching. I got super excited when I saw that you had Interesting NPCs as your essential Skyrim mod- as one of the many, many voice actors, it was bizarre to see two worlds collide and I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
This Game and its successor are the only strategy games i ever enjoyed . Possession , animations , sounds , intuitivity , replayability and all the other cute / evil details : they all go together very well in this cauldron to produce a magic potion that hardly ever failed to temporarily boost life's joyfactor with a significant amount . This is one of the few Games i rewarded a whopping 10/10 .
You'll probably want to look out for Obsidian Entertainment's upcoming game, Tyranny. You also play as the bad guys in Tyranny, and AFTER they've already won. It's essentially about managing an evil empire. Supposed to be coming out this year.
I've always enjoyed the level in the deeper dungeon campaign where you're stuck with nothing but four warlocks, a jail and a graveyard and you have to assemble a kind of undead army...the idea of doing a challenge run through the whole campaign like that never occurred to me until now, but now I'm definitely destined to re-install it to give it another shot.
Mine is Legend of Dragoon. It was the first RPG my dad and I played together (I mostly watched). He passed away seven years ago. Every once and a while, especially if I'm going through a rough phase, I'll do a 100% completion run.
I noticed a small technical error in this video. At 1:12, on your list of ten favourite games, you accidentally wrote "Skyrim" instead of a good game. You could probably fix it with an annotation. Great video otherwise!
I loved this game when it first came out, but I could only play it over at my best friends house, because we didn't own a computer at home. I never fully explored it, but I have great memories of playing it. Thanks for this video.
This one was available on the On the House a while a go for free on origin. When I was young I loved playing this- so I got it. I am glad to know about the FX!
I was 6 when I first got this game. Still to this day one of my all time favorites. Something that I hold so high and dearly in fact, it is in my personal Top 10, maybe Top 5 even. T he sequel and the spiritual successor couldn't hold a candle to the gameplay of DK1 in my eyes. Every level had this... Mystique to it, it felt like a place with History, that you are rampaging through on your conquest to power. Yet, where every other RTS would cloud your vision, almost every slightly interesting looking spot on the map was worth exploring. You were rewarded for a keen eye of patterns and venturing out into the unknown, sometimes you would find new allies that you have never seen before, sometimes you found traps guarding a stash of gold to boost your economy or a patch of Jewels, sometimes you would find those Mystery Boxes that have their own way of breaking a level or even the next one (interestingly enough the levels with a spike in difficulty almost always have one of the creature transport boxes). So many things to discover but it doesn't stop there, it's also on a mechanics level. Creatures you train have different abilities they learn at certain levels, it was interesting to see what set of Spells or Abilities your newly acquired creature can have and even more fun to play around with it (albeit in pixelated graphics with clunky controls) in first person mode. You could Micro Manage your Imps to make them faster working, even controlling them yourself to claim territory or mine Gold faster or scout the unknown. So many more little things that just add up! It definitely had a bit more charm in those early days of the internet back then, when you couldn't just search for tutorials and map reveals but even now, if you play it for the first time and look up everything there is to the game from one players perspective, there are many more things for you to find. The Temples where a great example, I always had to look up what combination of creatures I would have to sacrifice to get a Horned Reaper. (Bile Demon, Troll and a Mistress). But my mind was blown that it can also attract a Tentacle if build next to a body of water!
I still remember the day I bought this game and first played it back in the 90's. It was so different to anything I had played up to that point. A great game!
I remember finding out about levels that you can only play on certain days, like on a full moon. It blew my mind. That said, I remember not liking those puzzle levels.
There are some mods (custom campaigns) for Braid that does this kind of intense exploration of mechanics extremely well. For anyone interested I recommend checking out Silverbraid and Stone.
An absolutely excellent discussion of what seems like an excellent game. I always wanted to play dungeon keeper, but never had the chance. Now I want to play it all the more.
Brilliant Video, Honestly have played at least once a year since 97, and when i found KeeperFX was over joyed. 9/10 of your top 10 are also mine :) Keep up the great work
Love the Dungeon Keeper game and Deeper Dungeons, some of those took a while to beat looking forward to try the other levels you mentioned at the end, so cool
The Possession spell is what *made* the Dungeon Keeper franchise for me. I had played my fill of God-Games and I *hated* it when I couldn't manually force an AI to do a thing I want it to do. Dungeon Keeper was the first franchise I saw that fixed that issue so creatively and effectively and in such a fun way.
your videos are great, i have never heard of this game but im itching to play it now. the switch to first person blew my mind!!! thanks again for the awesome content keep it up
Wizardry IV. You play as the villain from the original game and among your enemies are heroes from the first three games that were placed in the game after fans mailed their disks to the developer.
0:55 _Who's your daddy and what does he do?_ No, I actually liked that text. And I'm not normally one for ye olde English. The question at the end feels random, but rather amusingly so. Well, you've got me. Although I've played DK2 through in its day (and a couple of times more since), I've considered the original a few times whilst browsing its GOG page and ultimately decided that it was just too old to float my boat with no nostalgia but that which I have for the sequel. You've convinced me to give it a shot. I like the sound of that mod which cautiously revamps it. I wonder, were the familiar DK2 sounds I'm hearing in the vid added by the mod or are they actually original to the first game? I agree that the player's age will largely determine which games might be most nostalgic to them. As a child of the 90s, born in '88, my nostalgic champions and my top favourites of all time are the original Fallouts and Deus Ex, followed closely by a few others such as Blizzard's classics. The former, in particular, are indeed games I've gone back to on occasion over the years, games I would've replayed many more times if only there weren't so many games I want to play. As the adage goes: _too many games, too little time._
@@valacan WftO is much more like DK2 than DK1, so stay away from it if you liked DK1 but haven't played DK2 yet, as you are likely to get disappointed. I sure was, and I know others who also were, but maybe I'll enjoy it more once I get around to actually playing DK2.

War for the Overworld is definitely worth checking out after the latest patches (I played it this weekend a little). Considering you can get it plus the expansion for a total of R450 (about $32) I'd say go for it.
Just discovered your channel; Liked your video on the Witness and NMS, but you also played DK?! Glad to see someone else talking about this game, one of the best games of all time imh, thanks for making!
Final Fantasy VI will always be my favorite Final Fantasy game. I play it once every year or two and truly enjoy myself each time. :) It's no surprise that the game gets all the love that it has, but it makes me very happy in any case. :)
The funny part is, there was a game from the '80s that let you play the villain. Wizardry IV has you taking on the role of an wvil sorcerer who is trying to leave his own tomb. But each level has a gang of adventurers that are trying to loot your tomb and/or stop you fro. Getting to the surface. You have to use summons, black magic and necromancy to fight the heroes of each level. 🌈The More you Know! 🌈
I just started playing DK2 again and this video was very interesting to watch, since I didn't play DK1. You mentioned a video on DK2 and War for the Overworld but I can't find it in your channel. Will it ever see the light of day?
Another classic pc game that was remade by fans and is free now to download is Star Control 2. The project is known as Ur-Quan Masters. Everyone must know.
MCCrafterTV yeah.. I hate having tons of clients though.. made an origin account now, maybe I'll install origin if I have a few games on it that are worth it... xD
This is just the best, i came over a few games as a price, while selling christmasrelated stuff for a company as a preteen. The pile included hospital, Dark omen, a few other not worth mention and this one, Dungeon Keeper. This one and Dark omen are those I over and over have revisited. So great and I can't understand how few actually have played this awsome fenomenon. The sequel, DK2 was one I never played as young and during my later years, tried but never came over a copy that wouldnt crash after 5-6 levels. It was Okey, but didnt give you thesame connection to your minions and it went to big in some ways and lost some of it's lovable parts. This game is awsome.. Wouldnt matter if it was for the good you fought. Its the gameplay that is amazing, well as a kid it was "good to be bad" ;)
The only other game I can think of that does the "possesion" thing would be Lego Rock Raiders. It wasn't really as deep as DK, but it wasn't bad...as far as I can remember.
Thank you so much !! I had forgotten about this game, although I spent so much time on it back in the day =) I'm gonna check good old games right away ! =)
one of my earliest memories was getting my first gameboy color and playing Pokemon Blue. I grew up with ! Gameboy Advanced graphics and to me, that style of art is my absolute favorite. the new pokemon games can look alright but i would prefer it so much more if it just used more elaborate pixel and sprite art.
I build a retro gaming pc, just to play games like this, its not perfect yet, but its getting there, one of these weeks i will ad a ceative soundblaster and upgrade the videocard and than it should be done, i just added the lights and the reset button, there whas only a power button in it and thats it! Thats how i get those games running, nothing beats the feeling running it on period correct hardware, it has its charm and i like it :)
I see this is an eight year old video but the first game I played in a similar vein to this one would be Tecmo's Deception. You basically take control of a haunted house setting up traps for explorers, there was a story to it but for the life of me I don't remember the finer details.
Good video, although it may have been prudent to mention the games' interesting development history (and drop the name Peter Molyneux?) This game is fantastic. It's among the very greatest games on the PC, on par with Civ, Doom & C&C in my opinion. The War for the Overworld good Joseph mentions at the end of the first section is in a really good state now and will scratch that itch for more DK just fine. It is sorely lackign the DK charm though. The gameplay is good and improved upon however!
"Not to mention the updates to Keeper FX may one day break Ancient Keeper entirely" FeelsBadMan.jpg For anyone who doesn't understand, what he said actually ended up happening, one of the levels is unbeatable now due to an update to KeeperFX.
Yeah, though if it's the one that I think (and that I lost hours still trying to beat before I found out), you can manually change the creature stats back to the original ones to beat that level.
Oh my god thank you for this video. I still love Dungeon Keeper and in fact I have still hung up a poster in my gaming room. Also for new players it's probably a good advice to turn wobbly walls off in the settings. Not sure how the option is called, it let's you have straight walls instead of this messy thing :P
It would be cool if dwarf fortress had the possession ability to where you can posses a dwarf in your fortress and you will be taken into adventure mode as that character.
I would guess because it would break balance even harder than hero units ? See also the various BattleZone games that made it even more the core of the game !
Oh wow, wished that I discovered this video earlier. I am DragonsLover and contributed with KeeperFX it's been a little while
KeeperFX is Fantastic, cheers
You're a gentleman and a scholar.
great mod you worked on, kudos!

It's been over a year and you've still not made that DK2 video.
It's been over three years and it's still not there.
Lol
lol
Most likely because DK2 sucks and he's gotta force himself to play it
DK2 is amazing:). But i think it's just not populair enough in this time for him.

No problem! Keep putting out incredible content man!

Skyrim is a pretty good open-world game, though.
Just the right amount of snark. I approve.
:\
*insert salty comment here
I may be out of the loop, but is there a vocal minority of people who genuinely despise Skyrim?
I'm a big fan of both the first and second game but I still watched the whole video because of nostalgy and your well interpretation. Thanks!
13:46 "it's not about the destination but the journey"
Another great feature of DK - the names it generates for the creatures.
Age of Mythology is something I keep coming back to every year

DUNGEONKEEPER FX, one of the best things to ever happen to the DK series.
An absolutely excellent discussion of what seems like an excellent game. I always wanted to play dungeon keeper, but never had the chance. Now I want to play it all the more.
1:45 Geralt slowly fading made me laugh...

omg, I love Interesting NPCs. I recommend that mod to everyone and anyone who mentions skyrim
pretty alright mod, i confirm
Am just here to agree with you ^^ It really is amazing.
I can't wait to play Can of Soup 2019!
this will always be one of my favorite games. On my top 5

your videos are great, i have never heard of this game but im itching to play it now. the switch to first person blew my mind!!! thanks again for the awesome content keep it up
Michael Steinheiser it is for free on Origin. The game is really good and complex!
I can also recommend the second game of the series. Although it does not make a lot new, yet it is the one most people see as the classic.
Chrono trigger number 1?!?!? A man of class as well I see 🖤🖤🖤
No Dungeon Keeper 2 video.
No War of the Overlord video.
😥
Sadge.
Oh man, that master in swimming had me burst out laughing. Good show.
I forgot I did that joke, haha. Thanks for noticing!
"Get thee to a nunnery"? That's from Hamlet.
Baradine I knew that text sounded familiar, especially since it seemed pretty easy to understand
It is 2020 and I am still waiting for the promised DK2 video
Wizardry IV. You play as the villain from the original game and among your enemies are heroes from the first three games that were placed in the game after fans mailed their disks to the developer.

No, I actually liked that text. And I'm not normally one for ye olde English. The question at the end feels random, but rather amusingly so.

It's really good if you want my recommendation. If you liked the original DK it has everything you could want now.

WftO is much more like DK2 than DK1, so stay away from it if you liked DK1 but haven't played DK2 yet, as you are likely to get disappointed.
I sure was, and I know others who also were, but maybe I'll enjoy it more once I get around to actually playing DK2.
I love that I only understand very little about this game even though I just listened to a 20 minute video about it
"literal handful of imps" nice.
Nice video, I'm a bit younger so it was DK2 for me, countless hours of fun as a child.
a masterpiece. deep and rafinate gameplay. never trivial. Is my favourite game
Back in the day, DK and DK2 were my jam. I dumped soooooo many hours into these games, trying to build the best dungeons, curate the best army of minions, and defeat the heroes. I also liked the silly dark humor throughout. Good times!
you're my favorite UA-camr, my OCD LOVES how thorough you are
You got my like!
That was a really well presented and narrated overview of Dungeon Keeper.
I really enjoyed this game back in the day.
War for the Overworld is definitely worth checking out after the latest patches (I played it this weekend a little). Considering you can get it plus the expansion for a total of R450 (about $32) I'd say go for it.
Happy new year
Best game ever! And KeeperFX makes it extra good.
I just bought War of the Overworld. So I hope you did not forgot about your critique/review on it :)
The possession system looks really cool
Just discovered your channel; Liked your video on the Witness and NMS, but you also played DK?! Glad to see someone else talking about this game, one of the best games of all time imh, thanks for making!

It's no surprise that the game gets all the love that it has, but it makes me very happy in any case. :)
That junkie analogy was funny
Pikmin is one of those games for me, absolute gem and I wish there were more games like it!
The funny part is, there was a game from the '80s that let you play the villain.

FUCK ORIGIN, FUCK EA
Dota 2's development and metagame is basically designed around the limitations of the WC3 engine and creativity resulting from the work arounds etc

Thank you so much !! I had forgotten about this game, although I spent so much time on it back in the day
=)
I'm gonna check good old games right away ! =)
0:33 That physically pained me.
"Stop you madman!"
I remember being 6 and this game being on the computer at the after school club holy shit those were the days
I hacked the library computers for admin access so that we could play DK multiplayer ! XD
Loving this stuff dude, keep it up.

Thats how i get those games running, nothing beats the feeling running it on period correct hardware, it has its charm and i like it :)
And there are secret levels too. It used to be every full moon it knew because it had a calendar and a new secret level would appear on that day.
3 years later, please consider making the DK2 or War for the Overworld video!
this gamd looks great
I see this is an eight year old video but the first game I played in a similar vein to this one would be Tecmo's Deception. You basically take control of a haunted house setting up traps for explorers, there was a story to it but for the life of me I don't remember the finer details.
Bullfrog has some wonderful games and humour.
Good video, although it may have been prudent to mention the games' interesting development history (and drop the name Peter Molyneux?)
This game is fantastic.
Legend
I love your videos joseph and how much in dept you go
"Not to mention the updates to Keeper FX may one day break Ancient Keeper entirely"
FeelsBadMan.jpg
For anyone who doesn't understand, what he said actually ended up happening, one of the levels is unbeatable now due to an update to KeeperFX.
Yeah, though if it's the one that I think (and that I lost hours still trying to beat before I found out), you can manually change the creature stats back to the original ones to beat that level.
This game is fantastic, Why isn't the first person mind control mechanic not used more often in RTS games.
also: where is the new battlezone game? :(
5 years later, the dwarf fortress steam edition just announced real graphics, uis and mouse support for when its done, fullfilling the cycle.
Your dungeon heart is full of gold, no more than 16000 can it hold.
best game ever by far.
My absolute favorite game EVER!!!! :D
Can also make the walls shorter !
War for the overworld is sweet
It was on the house in origin, also its running on win7
It would be cool if dwarf fortress had the possession ability to where you can posses a dwarf in your fortress and you will be taken into adventure mode as that character.
This sounds like a good time and fun game why don't any strategic game have the first person it is beyond me.
I would guess because it would break balance even harder than hero units ? See also the various BattleZone games that made it even more the core of the game !
