It's all in the name guys - STIFF-LEG - that means no bending!!
Aren't you supposed to bent your knees?
@@revolutionsoldier5889 You are slightly. To the parent comment, it's called the stiff leg deadlift, not the rigid immobile deadlift.
@@df6597 I used to bend my knees but someone told me I was doing it wrong🤷
@@revolutionsoldier5889 I mean, you don't really bend them much. It depends on your structure and flexibility, but you don't lock them. You get your grip situated, stick your butt out kind of, bending at the hip back straight, big chest, you should feel the stretch in your hams, then you power through driving your hips forward and tightening your glutes and hams for a big squeeze. Repeat for prescribed reps.
@@df6597 I'm sorry I didn't mean to say that, I meant to say that I used to keep my legs straight and someone told me that I had to bend my knees
9 years later, still just the video i needed. Really appreciate you making it a short video
No BS straight to the point.. that's y I like this channel..
Haha most fitness youtubers would start by recording themselves getting lunch and talking about their day for a few minutes.
Abhishek Sholapur yo for real though

U alive bro?
You say that but if you look at the graph so many people skip straight to actual motion and skip the "intro".
Straight to the point and no 20 minute video demonstrating one technique, much appreciated.
Loved this video, very concise, straight to the workout, all angle view, clear instructions. 10/10
Great question! For this exercise, It involves stiff legs and a rounded back at the bottom of the movement to work the spine erectors more dynamically. However you are still targeting your hamstrings and glutes
I am working on it. That is a REALLY tough movement. Respect for those who make it look easy!
Yes, you certainly do round your back in a stiff-leg deadlift. the main differences are that with the rounding you are going to work your spine erectors more dynamically.
Thanks man!! Might do a show this year. Just need to launch this site! :)
Scott you are the best.....how you explain and perform the exercises make a huge difference for me...you are improving my workouts, thank you so much

Thanks Garrett!
It's all good my friend. I just feel like there is so much trash on UA-cam about "injuries" that people are getting afraid to push their limits, especially beginners. I want to do my best to encourage others to build a strong body and you are 100% right, lowering the weight can be a shot to the ego, but usually its the ego that causes the injury, not the exercise. Hope you have a wonderful week my friend! #HTH
agreed
WHY ARE YOU YELLING AT ME??
Paolo LIBIA BECAUSE YOU DONT LISTEN
LOL
I read your comment before the video started. And then he started yelling. OMG hahahaha
Because the room is huge and therefore if you want to hear him, he has to be loud -.-
Tiffany S "Issa" joke Ms. S
this guy is a legend, 2023 watching his exercise guides
No worries Markus. For this exercise, It involves stiff legs and a rounded back at the bottom of the movement to work the spine erectors more dynamically. However you are still targeting your hamstrings and glutes
I love blasting through sciatica with these so satisfying.
Hey Andy, actually, in America we perform the Romanian Deadlift and I even have a video for it. This is different :)
I just filmed a video and will post it Thursday :) Thanks for the suggestion. Appreciate the support my friend! :)
No nonsense, Short and sweet. That's what I like about Scott Herman.
I am feel very proud of you Herman
tell em boss
Sure! I will be doing more barbell and dumbbell routines for at home! :)
you are very welcome Turner!
I haven't done these for a long time, definitely hits the lower back real good, doing them tomorrow
Thanks coolboy!
If this was in sketchy vhs format it would remind me of those instructional videos you had to watch before you got on the bumper cars
awesome demo Scott, thanks
Thank you for your time and help 🏋️
Nice! I am doing this today and wanted to learn the proper motion. You can always rely on ScottHermanFitness to walk you through the movement!
Also, to any comment readers - I'm doing a chisel challenge and vlogging everyday about it... We'll see how it turns out!
I love it quick short and to the point 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Great tutorial Scott....
Thax Scot gonna add this to my leg routine wensday/saterday back squats /front squats /split squats sldl/leg extentions /leg curls/ toe raise /barbell caft raise / seated caft raise I think I have enough for leg day I do like 14 reps for my upper leg /lower legs 20 reps takes a lot
Learning it at first like all workouts for beginners like me is hard but slowly and slowly I learn and adapt
Well, you can try super light weight and work more on form. If anything, it will help strengthen your lower back. Hope you heal up soon!
Great vid, thanks!
thank u scott i was wondering that exercise
what do you mean?
brief and to the point!
tnx for all scot u be my trainner for a long time a go , salute from colombia
Finally an instructional video that doesn't confuse the stiff leg with the romanian. I was going insane trying to find a good instructional video-.-.
Awesome thanks bro
yeah yeah!! Thanks for noticing Russ! #HTH :)
Thank you!
The how to series is the best
Great vid
thanks man you're the best so far I've learned the most of your channel...
Even helped me solve my shoulder problem by Front & Side Lateral Rises!!!
Cheers Scott 👍
Okay, first things first, your tutorials are short and to the point. Really appreciate that! Now, what's the difference between stiff-legged deadlift and RDL, both are almost same, I couldn't differentiate between the two.
What a physique man! What a physique!
I'm trying these out for the first time today, thanks for the video. I usually do the standard conventional deadlift but I'm looking for something to target my hamstrings more.
Keep them as straight as you can. Locked out would be preferred, but if you don't feel safe, a very slight bend is ok.
Just want to take a minute and say thank you for not making a 35 minute video blabbing on about nonsense. Most people just want a short brief video on how to properly do the movement and what muscles it works. But all the other creators write a book and then put it into a video. There's a time and place for all that but I just want a simple video so thank you for making it less than 2 minutes
Straight to the point. No bullshit. Just the way I like it
I can barely lower 30 degrees doing this exercise. It amazes me you can go all the way down to the floor
much appreciated!
Scott, is it okay to curve your back on the comeback from the deadlift, if not how would one avoid the rounding?
Flawless victory!
Thanks!
Great video! :)
I just tried these and I can do them quite well, I’ve not deadlifted in a long time due to my knees and back, but being as the legs are stiff it’s not too bad on my knees so far. Hopefully it will also stretch my hamstrings as they’re super tight, from doing loads of weighted hyperxtension machine work. They’re so tight I cannot do a good morning without popping in the biceps femoris behind the right knee.
Me too
Hey Scott,
What % should I do on stiffed legged deadlift compared to my regular deadlift to improve my deadlifts? I recently started doing these and I started off at 135 for stiff and my regulars are at 355. Awesome video and thanks
I love this excerise, currently on 75KG for 4 sets of 10.
Whats the progress report 8 years later :P
@@zomluck lol
Takes time, but thanks! Just start off with light weight and you will increase your flexibility over time.
thank you!
Well done kid
does this exercise help to increase the flexibility in your hamstrings?
Dead lift are awesome
Would locking your knees out not put a lot of pressure on your caps?
About eight years watching your videos when going to the gym. Only the Gods know how many injuries you’ve prevented me from having 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Sir u explain very well😊
Nice guy scott herman
Thanx man
Unreal shape!
Scott, if I feel a little sore in my lower back after doing this exercise, am I doing something wrong?
So we should lock the knees throughout the exercise or keep the knees almost from locking out?
Haha i thought you'd already made one but too lazy to search, thanks for the link!
Oh okay, that makes sense. Ty man!
Thanks Scott, you do the same man.
Hi, What method do you have or what exercises do you do that you have a symmetrically developed vastus medialis in relation to the lateral head. Sorry for my English. I used a translator.
Scott, you're doing a Romanian Deadlift rather than stiff legged deadlift. In the latter the bar is away from the body and you pull it up and toward you.
Thanks for the videos. I enjoy the variety!
Thanks Gronk
A channel that's about fitness and not fake feuds, imagine that.
This icon was doing shorts before it even existed
Hey scott. I have a question about creatine is it bad or good for you? Do you loose your muscles if you stop taking it? Do you take it? Thanks
Perfect execution. :-)
Scott's putting on some size!
Scott quick question what should be the difference in poundage or the average different in poundage with max bench press and your max incline
I am doing this exercise for the hamstrings! Scott what do you think?
great vid as always !! a question if u don't mind ... this exercise, i mean this tip of deadlift does work ya upper back as well, and shoulders ?
Scott, what dou you think about not getting back to the final position, in order to keep tension on the hamstrings and not involve lower back that much?
28 brotha!
No, this is a stiff-leg. It involves stiff legs and a rounded back at the bottom of the movement to work the spine erectors more dynamically. :)
it has been my favourite channel for years!!! the best! the best OldSchool UA-camr!!
I have a video for the Romanian Deadlift. The main difference is you work your spinal erectors harder with the stiff leg because you round your back at the bottom of the movement.
thanks
Legend 🤙
tysm ❤️
I was just wondering what the difference between this and a Romanian Deadlift is and then noticed *UP NEXT* is "Romanian Deadlifts Vs Stiff-legged Deadlifts. What's the difference?" Yay. Scott has always got my back.
I always had done these locking my knees all the way , which then causes my back to round but I still feel my hamstring being stretched. Is this bad in the long run,
Could this be bad for your lower back?
I spoke to my physio and he told me to stay away from the lower back extension machine. How similar are these 2 exercises?
