i feel like Dreams success may be similar to Littlebigplanet, where it may attract a wide variety of players at first, but eventually the majority of its playerbase will those who really embrace the creation aspect of it edit: its worth noting that LBP has had dlcs based on liscened properties, marvel, DC, Pirates of the carribean, toy story, metal gear solid amongst others. I can see Dreams having dlc like in littlebigplanet that has new levels utilising a licenced property but also introduce new materials for creating, although if i remember right it may be a case of where dlc of licenced properties may eventually become unavailable due to licensing rights like with some of the disney dlc. I also wonder if the issue of game updates may become a concern for the community's creations, iirc when LBP got updates, some creations would end up breaking and being inaccessable, and with dreams being much more complex than LBP it may be a larger concern.
Dreams has been in development for many years now, and the engine has been rebuilt at least three times. Media Molecule kept focus on a fundamental system for saving creations, that translated well between the engines. I believe it's very unlikely that updates make creations break. They already have a robust source and version control system that ensures creations work well together through iterations. As for DLC, it's hard to sell something that the community can make by themselves. I believe that Mm will ask studios to make small experiences in Dreams that can be played for free.
@Ryan Dowsett He's glad people are being exposed to Dreams. It's right there in the comment. It's literally a statement. How weirdly insecure and/or stupid do you have to be to actively look for a way to make a negative assumption from a simple comment?
Dreams was being advertised at about every big events. It was on the main stage at E3 and PSX too. It's not that people didn't know about it, it's that nobody fucking cares about the pretentious devs repeating that it is gonna revolutionize gaming but not showing anything for it.
LBP had microtransactions in the form of costumes. From what I remember, they were VERY popular because people were attached to how their Sackperson (yeah, that's right) looked. Edit: Funny enough, Bruce said "Wolverine will never be in LBP", however there was a Marvel pack that included Wolverine, Spiderman, Hulk, etc.
I have a feeling it'll end like Project Spark knowing how PlayStation is barely marketing it. That was sort of the downfall of Project Spark. No one really knew about it.
I just listened to the old podcasts that she hosted a couple years back (97+98) and they are really full of topics, so I can't wait for her to host again. She did great back then.
I'm 17 minutes in and these guys LOVE saying "hmm" in unison every time Alahnah (gave up on learning how to spell her name) says anything. It's legit every time lol.
I don't want to doody on any toes here, but at 1:03:25 they finished an ad for a game that they completely trashed in a recent gaming weekly... Did the sponsor just not see that? Or was it a power move to force them to change stance?
Dreams, no pun intended is a game changer. I've been waiting for this game since it's unofficial announcement, but I was always apprehensive about how far you could push anything other than artsy aesthetic. After having the beta for a month and creating with it, and seeing all the things coming out of it. I have no doubt in my mind people will be making some insane experiences! I've made a bunch of horror stuff and the things you can push out are crazy.
There were Pirates of the Caribbean, Watchmen, MGS, and many more DLC properties that were sold as microtransactions in game. They gave you assets and costumes you could use in your own games and I imagine it could work somewhat similar in Dreams.
I think James was a *bit* harsh on that Incredibles trivia one. The Incredibles takes place in a vague 60s-ish era where the cars are styled to look like cars from the 50s and 60s, but then you have modern airplanes, weaponry, and overall many modern digital devices (like Violet owning a laptop). Like how the TV show Archer has cars from the 70s but computers from the 80s, modern cell phones, and the internet, all at the same time. You can understand how someone can be confused about when it's exactly supposed to take place.
Ted Bundy was extremely confident which was not something most people thought a serial killer could be post john wayne gacy so it told most people that anyone could be a serial killer
Currently in the beta, and it's almost overwhelming trying to figure out what to make. I want to do it all at the same time, but this takes a while to learn, which makes me soo excited to see how creative people can be with Dreams. This changes things.
This is one of my favorite series that you guys do, I enjoy seeing everyone being themselves instead of doubling their personality like in a lot of the gameplay videos (still enjoy those). I like what you guys are doing with the changing hosts too, great job this week James!
I think I've watched every Funhaus video 3-4 times at this point, and I still love you guys just as much as I did watching that Stranded Deep gameplay for the first time!
The way I think you have to look at the pricing structure, is that it's a full creative suite for 60 bucks, like you've got full voxel based sculpting software, a full animation software, full lighting and real time rendering stuff, music creation, and logic creation. I mean it's basically everything that a digital artist could want for 60 bucks. That's ridiculously cheap compared to stuff like zbrush or whatever. I think it's gonna have some restrictions obviously but with the social media like forums and sharing services, and you can have your sculpts sent off and 3d printed. That's super cool
As someone who has friends in the Beta, they're really loving this game. They've done some crazy things with the toolset and there's a lot of customization. I know some people are using the beta to prototype demos of other games. Copyright is a worry, but it's incredible what people have done with only an hour let alone days.

Add in VR and we could be in Ready Player One territory! Also; it's a viking funeral for me: like Adam said, I want to take up as little room as possible on this planet
I just feel like saying the "Don't Hug Me" idea was already a short web game you could play made to bring attention to depression and anxiety in Korea especially due to loneliness. The game is called Loneliness and you can play it at NecessaryGames.com. I'm not saying the developers are plagiarising the idea or anything, I'm just saying that it was an idea that was already executed outside of Dreams, thus I think Alannah saying that it's something "that could only exist in Dreams" is wrong. There's plenty of platforms for people to make meaningful short experiences, whether they want to use Flash, Game Maker, RPG Maker, Ren'Py, or even something advanced like Unity and Unreal. They can share those games through game jams or itch.io. I'm not trying to shit on Dreams, because I feel like it's going to be a great tool for people to exert their creativity and share experiences. But I do think that it's being blown out of proportion a little bit.
Kyle Finlayson I was going to comment this cos i played it too. So agree it can be done in any engine. The loneliness game was done in such away that you slowly realise that your character is deliberately being avoided. Then by the end I was so affected by it.
LittleBIGplanet had tons of licensed DLC like Pirates of the Caribbean, The Incredibles, Toy Story and so on, where you got alot of different stuff themed around that licensed IP, so what you said about the big companies releasing assets packs would very much be in the spirit of the Mm games :)

James: "how shitty is it that we have to live in a world where you have to put up a gofundme to pay medical bills" .. Weeeelll *country* not really world. There is a pretty easy political solution to this problem. Not easy in a political sense, I know that its a big debate in the states whether to have universal health care but from a moral standpoint its honestly insane that it has to be discussed at all
@@jtn191 no i know that. Obviously. I just think part of the problem is that the issue is discussed in such an isolated manner. The normalization of these gofundmes is what james is trying to get at/criticize . i do think it would help the discussion to realize how out of the norm the US is in terms of health care systems. And how its really fucked up . the counterargument vs health care is always about not being able to fund it, even though there are a lot less wealthy countries that can work this out just fine
I really liked the "spread positivity" topic. We all get overwhelmed by the negativity sometimes, and I try not to let it get to me but it's really hard. Whoever decided to have that topic (I'm assuming that it was James because he was the host), thanks for that. Cheers to the end of a long January.
Bruce saying that X-men would never be in LBP reminds me that me and my buddy bought a Wolverine and Punisher outfit for our sackboys back on the PS3. Just food for thought.
Dreams is not going to be nearly as popular as people think it is. Its an extremely elaborate creation tool that's really a huge achievement. But there are two barriers to entry here. 1: It's on a playstation 4, which means you need a ps4 and possibly a few accessories to play anything on there. 2: You have to buy the game in order to get it. I don't know if they plan on making you able to publish games or videos you make on there, but digging through menus to find recommended games doesn't help with visibility. This is going to be a fun tool for people who want to learn to make things like this, but ultimately it doesn't have anywhere near the same type of customization that a traditional game engine/other programs have. It's going to be a great fun editor for the community and people who enjoy creating, but I don't think it will really take over the space. Might have a little bit of a bigger community than little big planet at least.
This feels like one of those games that every one would say is amazing but nobody would actually play. Like the Little Big Planet series. And just like Little Big Planet, it'll ultimately just fizzle out of relevance.
Man, when James is legitimate, he is way funnier than the bit character he created! James. Be yourself dude, it's fantastic and your jokes and bits are on point!
The correct answer is Jeri the synthetic Xenomorph from the comics. He could blend in with real Xenomorphs, speak fluent English, and use a pulse rifle to defend himself.
You know... you guys are my favorite channel. There's series you have I don't like, and for the most part they're gone now, but I want to say Thanks for the content you have given me. You guys are the best, and if you ever come to DC area, I'll buy you guys some beers! Cheers Funhaus!
I recall there being some sort of very basic game (like block shapes) with the same premise as the Hug Me game described. You would move toward other blocks and they would always run away.
The problem with all frameworks: when they have too much automation to improve "ease of use," they must bury or remove features, reducing the granularity of the configuration. Another way to look at it: the more developers design their frameworks for short concept-to-production times, the longer it practically takes for the end user to do things that the framework devs hadn't thought of.
I understand that people might not care what happens to after you die, but think of your family and what they are going through. By planning and having discussions about what to do will help the people that care about you when you pass. So instead of saying that you do not care what they do, help them prepare that time when they are going through some of the worse moments of their life.
I love the last segment where James can finally express his rancor for that awful shit subreddit, I just wish the others wouldn't interrupt him so much! Let him hate in peace. :)
Have you ever had a dream that you, um, you had, your, you- you could, you’ll do, you- you wants, you, you could do so, you- you’ll do, you could- you, you want, you want them to do you so much you could do anything?
It’s the same thing as having the Mario stuff in Minecraft. Sure I was able to make a Pirates of the Caribbean themed level in LBP but that is different than being able to make something that plays similar to Kingdom Hearts
About depositing bodies in the sea and letting the fish eat, would be two problems. With the amount of decaying bodies thrown in, the water would get contaminated, along with the feces of human components left by fish would also be a contaminant. I think. xD
Maybe I am in the minority but I feel like Dreams will go the same way as all the other games that let you make games - cool for a month, then no one talks about it ever again.
This game is on another level like no other creation game . So it will not go the ways of those games. There will be too much content for it to not be popular for years to come.
Look at LBP and LBP2. They lasted a long while, so I have high hopes for Dreams. Especially considering the amount of time and love they're putting into it.
CorporalCallosum every time random people talk about this game they talk about it being a huge flop. People need to stop being so cynical and have some imagination smh.
I still remember when Dreams was first announced at the PlayStation 4 reveal event back in February 2013. Look it up if you want, it's there. Also the LittleBigPlanet games (at least the ones made by Media Molecule, 1 and 2) were absolutely awesome and were one of the reasons I wanted to get into the industry in the first place (just graduated from University and looking for a job as a 3D Artist at the moment).
I really like Alanah's policy of responding to 5 positive comments for every negative comment. More creators should incentivize their fans to be positive. On the other hand, I do see James' point about the Comment Show being much more entertaining when negative comments were featured. Idk, I guess it's a fine line. Also: I don't own GTA5.
Not sure how Alanah sees it, but to me a positive comment is anyone who retains a shred of human decency. Clearly things like, "I love you and everything you do", or "that thing you said was really funny", but also includes, "I disagree about that, here's why...". It's possible to have an opposing opinion without being a total dick.
Why is it now ok? the sky isn't falling just because dreams is a thing the things people make and share will keep the game going long after the devs have moved on. This isn't meant for everyone i will give it a go but not sure if i could build much, but i damn sure want to see the people who build those over the top minecraft worlds make things.
Speaking of post-mortem care, best friend has (I think) the best plan. He wants to be cremated and then his urn will be a life-size bust of his head. His parents think it’s terrible but I think it’s genius and I want to steal it
Good looking is subjective, but yes Adam was right. Ted Bundy was described as a man with a old school movie star look and he acted like a great guy. So Zac Effron is not a bad casting for Bundy
Whenever I look at Adam's twitter handle and Al Yankovic's, I sometimes get them confused because I only see the Kovic Adam Kovic and his brother Alyan Kovic
speaking of positivity - the Very first RTX Australia I only turned up for Funhaus (snob, I know) but Adam and James were the first signings, which went overtime and they had to leave so they jumped into the coward to plz as many ppl as they could. in my panic to meet my heroes I whipped open MPQ and when James came up, and I won't forget it, he knew I'd love a Pic with a fan n such but what wanted most to connect on some level, he ultimately made a move for me on my Deadpool daily. that's is my measure of a fan/hero relationship genuinely.
Media Molecule is awesome, I loved the shit out of Little Big Planet. I can't imagine how many more possibilities there will be for user-created content now that they've basically made a "do whatever the fuck you want" game.
The Islamic burial method doesn't use caskets. We just clean the body and wrap it in a white sheet before burial. Also, graves are reused after the body has fully decomposed, so you often have multiple generations of a family buried in a single grave.
i want the next DUDE SOUP with FUNHAUS to hear their take on the whole situation with Soulja Boy selling chinese emulated game systems and handhelds as his own originals and claiming that all the games on them from Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft, and other gaming studios are 100% licensed by them and he has permission and also that he is also caliming FORTNITE will be playable on an upcoming console with EPIC's permission as well.
The biggest thing that makes me doubt the ability of Dreams to be a success is the fact that LBP 1 and 2 were pretty huge games and TO THIS DAY - in discussions surrounding a new game by the developers no less - people STILL don't really know what LBP was. I feel like every impressions video I see has the "It's not just LBP, it's much more than that" followed by a laundry list of stuff that was in LBP 2. I can already feel it setting in after Giant Bombs stream where they were asking themselves how much of the game was "prefabricated" and swiftly jumped out of create mode after a few moments.
I think Funhaus is 90% of what I watch honestly.
Same
I watch 90% Pewdiepie and the last ten is Funhaus
I dont know how much of my watch time goes to funhaus, but i’m always exited when i see new video from funhaus!

I really liked the "spread positivity" topic. We all get overwhelmed by the negativity sometimes, and I try not to let it get to me but it's really hard. Whoever decided to have that topic (I'm assuming that it was James because he was the host), thanks for that. Cheers to the end of a long January.
I’m only gonna watch the dreams version of funhaus from now on
Bruce saying that X-men would never be in LBP reminds me that me and my buddy bought a Wolverine and Punisher outfit for our sackboys back on the PS3.
Most will forget about it as soon as they finish watching this podcast.
James minecraft experience - "swing your hammer at a torch or whatever"
This feels like one of those games that every one would say is amazing but nobody would actually play. Like the Little Big Planet series. And just like Little Big Planet, it'll ultimately just fizzle out of relevance.
Man, when James is legitimate, he is way funnier than the bit character he created! James. Be yourself dude, it's fantastic and your jokes and bits are on point!
I really like when James hosts
James is the best and don't change the intro
Recommends alien blackout about a week ago, alien blackout is now a sponsor. Helluva coincidence.
Im digging James as host. Lots of energy. Like a squirrel on cocaine.
I like the intro, it adds a weird layer of anarchic class to the show
The problem with all frameworks: when they have too much automation to improve "ease of use," they must bury or remove features, reducing the granularity of the configuration. Another way to look at it: the more developers design their frameworks for short concept-to-production times, the longer it practically takes for the end user to do things that the framework devs hadn't thought of.
people always be talking about how cute Alanah is but damn Adam, Bruce and James are the real snacks, and I'm not even gay
Funerals are for the living, not the dead.
I understand that people might not care what happens to after you die, but think of your family and what they are going through. By planning and having discussions about what to do will help the people that care about you when you pass. So instead of saying that you do not care what they do, help them prepare that time when they are going through some of the worse moments of their life.
53:42 new Flubhaus Hall of Fame contender
A “Bruce fun day” honestly sounds amazing
I love the last segment where James can finally express his rancor for that awful shit subreddit, I just wish the others wouldn't interrupt him so much! Let him hate in peace. :)
They should do a show where they play games from their childhood I would watch that
Respect for you guys actually replying to your community toxic and positive. A lot of youtubers don't reply to anything
Have you ever had a dream that you, um, you had, your, you- you could, you’ll do, you- you wants, you, you could do so, you- you’ll do, you could- you, you want, you want them to do you so much you could do anything?
They had disney licensed stuff on LBP idk see why thye cant do the same with dreams
It’s the same thing as having the Mario stuff in Minecraft. Sure I was able to make a Pirates of the Caribbean themed level in LBP but that is different than being able to make something that plays similar to Kingdom Hearts
Prometheus is an FPS someone made in Dreams. Not sure if that's what's being referred to though.
About depositing bodies in the sea and letting the fish eat, would be two problems. With the amount of decaying bodies thrown in, the water would get contaminated, along with the feces of human components left by fish would also be a contaminant. I think. xD
15 min into this podcast and I still have no idea what "Dreams" is.
Which should tell you how unimportant the game is.
I want an RTAA of that sky-tubing story 😂
Maybe I am in the minority but I feel like Dreams will go the same way as all the other games that let you make games - cool for a month, then no one talks about it ever again.
This game is on another level like no other creation game . So it will not go the ways of those games. There will be too much content for it to not be popular for years to come.
Look at LBP and LBP2. They lasted a long while, so I have high hopes for Dreams. Especially considering the amount of time and love they're putting into it.
@@PunishThemMetal **cough** project spark **cough*"
PunishThemMetal Somebody says this every time, when will people learn to temper their expectations smh
CorporalCallosum every time random people talk about this game they talk about it being a huge flop. People need to stop being so cynical and have some imagination smh.
"The X-Men would never be in little big planet"
Oh Bruce. Sweet, sweet Bruce..
Also: I don't own GTA5.
define positive
His parents think it’s terrible but I think it’s genius and I want to steal it
Cliffy B's next Billion Dollar game, inside Deams
Good looking is subjective, but yes Adam was right. Ted Bundy was described as a man with a old school movie star look and he acted like a great guy. So Zac Effron is not a bad casting for Bundy
I'm really disappointed no ones talking about how Xbox basically created "dreams" years ago in Project Spark..
Oh man, a game where I can do what I want and create what I want?!
I can't wait to play dust2 in Dreams.
The Oasis from Ready Player One is slowly coming into reality 😮😆
Whenever I look at Adam's twitter handle and Al Yankovic's, I sometimes get them confused because I only see the Kovic
Adam Kovic and his brother Alyan Kovic
speaking of positivity - the Very first RTX Australia I only turned up for Funhaus (snob, I know) but Adam and James were the first signings, which went overtime and they had to leave so they jumped into the coward to plz as many ppl as they could. in my panic to meet my heroes I whipped open MPQ and when James came up, and I won't forget it, he knew I'd love a Pic with a fan n such but what wanted most to connect on some level, he ultimately made a move for me on my Deadpool daily. that's is my measure of a fan/hero relationship genuinely.
Bruce, be a gentleman and switch places with Alanah next time when something like this happens. Not really a big deal but its just a win-win.
i love James's new game
can i just say... Bruce's hair looks great
Media Molecule is awesome, I loved the shit out of Little Big Planet.
Starting to appreciate Lawrence more and more when it comes to these ad reads.
Still love ya James
I bet they've never heard of huachicoleros, man I tell you, we are flammable
I request an extended Drunk game of Movie Details/Shitty Movie Details.
James makes a awesome host!
This was fantastic man, gets my gravy churning
LBP did have Marvel Packs if I remember correctly. So it's not impossible they could do something similar in Dreams.
BOOOOOM!!! 26:34 Bruce Got Em!
