I took it to the Mercedes-Benz dealer. You don’t want to know how much they wanted to charge me. I looked it up. Saw your video. You saved me a lot of money.😂😂❤❤
I didn't notice this video a few months back. I had 6 amps draw with the two front seat fuses in. I pulled one out right seat and it reduced considerably after a few minutes. Opened the door pulled the other left seat out and it reduced it two 0.20 amps in a few minutes. My father doesn't use the seats, so we are just going to not do the fix and leave out the fuses. Thanks so much
Wonderful video thank you so much! Good job Dad! I hope your daughter appreciates how much you just saved her n how wonderful it is to have a Dad that fixes her things? 😍🙏
Hi thanks for the video. I tried this but every time I connect battery in line to amp meter the alarm goes on ; and did the trunk lights go off for you ? Or I should ask how did you turn off everything in car for the inline amp test . Thanks for the great video.
Excellent. Hope to see more. Wish me luck on finding a parasitic draw on a GL320 2009. Strong enough to make a spark almost into a half inch flame every time I have disconnected and reconnected the battery to try to get the dern thing to reset, just so it will start and drive. Argghh.
Nobody seems to be reading or exploring "youngjung4361" comment. He states that this whole vid procedure is not necessary to fix the drain problem. And that it can simply be fixed by unplugging the connector on the back rearward side of the seat module for a few minutes to reset the module. He states that doing this step alone will stop the parasitic battery drain.
Juat a quick note...ha ha. I pulled the fuse and lightly sanded the points of the fuse and put it back. I then disconnected both batteries and let the car sit overnight. I charged both batteries to a full charge. Reconnected everything (all done according to Mercedes instructions) and move the seat back and forth with the controls. I have had no issues since. Batteries remain fully charged and I only drive occasionally so it seems to be working as it is now 4 months. I think anytime an undervolt situation occurs, (dead battery) you also screw up the balance of the ECU and it needs to be rebooted. Perhaps keeping the seat in one position (as most people do) creates a problem in the circuit at the contact points. Then when you reconnect the battery after doing some other maintenance item the memory feature in the seat gets screwy and keeps polling to the ECU. Reset everything and it seems fine.
No need to cut or unplug the wires. All you need to do is just unplug the connector from the back of the seat module for a few mins and put them back. ( Make sure to disconnect from the back side of the module. Should be 2 or 3 connectors). NOW, test the draw check again with multimeter should have less than 0.005 milivolt. You are good to go!
There is a seat module bottom of the each front seat. Did the draw test and it was leaking from the driver seat module. Now no more draw since then. I actually bought a new seat module but returned the item.
Unplug a fuse only, your seat control will not work. I did that for a few weeks but not fun. Just try as I did and it should work. Just remove 4 bolts from the seat and unplug the wire from the rear side of the module(not the front), wait a few mins and plug it again and do the draw test to make sure the number is less than 0.005 milivolt
I have an '04 E320 Sport Wagon that had this same phantom power drain issue. At first I just removed the fuse but that also turned off the cornering headlights - which I didn't necessarily mind, but I hate getting any error messages. So I unbolted the seat and disconnected the plug. Unfortunately mine does not look quite like the one in the video. Only three wires I could see: green, brown, and one color I couldn't identify (it was getting dark and it's an awkward position). But I then realized that I couldn't slide the seat back without the plug in, so I ended up re-connecting it, sliding the seat forward, bolt the seat down in the rear, then slide the seat back and tip it up just enough to squeeze my hand in there and disconnect the plug again. Ugh! But still cheaper than replacing the whole module!
@@James-lv3lg yes, you can unplug the seat or unplugged the fuse, but then you lose the ability to adjust the passenger seat electrically. You can always plug it back in to make an adjustment and unplugged it again but this is the way to get around that issue.
I am sorry, Emilio, but I do not know if the memory seat is stored in an EEPROM that would retain the data when there was no battery power or if the seat positions are forgotten when you lose battery power. When we disconnected the battery on my car, I do not think it forgot the memory seat positions. My daughter was the only one who drove the car so I am not even sure we ever used the seat memory.
As this solution bypasses the fused 12 volts to the seat controller with the 12 volt ignition switched power, what fuse will blow when a seat controller module short circuits?
Sounds like you still have a drain somewhere. If the red light went away once you made the conversion, and came back on. You still have a battery drain somewhere.
If I just unplug both seats under and leave unplugged would that stop the power drain IF ITS the seat module draining my battery? Can I just leave both unplugged ? 2006 Mercedes CLS 500
I cannot speak to your specific model but that is the way that I prevented the power drain until I fixed it. I actually pulled the fuse on the passenger seat and just kept it nearby. When you pull the power, you will not be able to adjust the seats position. If you keep the fuse nearby, you can plug it in, move the seat, and pull it out again.
@@eggcleaver916 ok I have fully charged my car battery which Advance auto says is still good and I removed both fuses for each seat . I also unplugged the plug under each seat. Going to leave all off and see if in the morning the battery has drained again. 🤞🏽🤞🏽
Based on other's comments, I think you will lose the memory functions of the passenger seat. I never used them for the passenger and the seat couldn't even be adjusted before this hack because I had to disconnect it or lose my battery each night.
my question is this.. does doing this cause you to loose the memory seats? It's no big deal but I'm just curious before I commit... we'll guess I'll find out tomorrow if this is my issue I unplugged the driver side fuse
That's a great question. My daughter was the only driver so we didn't need the memory seats, especially on the passenger side. Please let me know when you find out. She sold the car when she left for college so I can't test it for you. For us, it would have been a small inconvenience compared to the full cost of the seat module replacement.
Just bought a 2006 E500,my driver seat switch doesn't work. Do you know a reason why it doesn't work? The guy at the dealership said it's the wiring, they even ordered a new switch before they said this.
Nice video, but they have different power supply , I mean fuse. 1 is 20amp another is 30. so you give on 1 wire 50 amp ? Can you imagine when seat heating is on and you want to change seat position, so all motors be working, I think to much power on 1 wire.
That is an excellent point. I live in the desert so I never once used the seat heater. You have to choose for yourself what you're willing to trade to have your seat motors working without spending hundreds of dollars. I think the take-away message is, if you do this, and you use your seat heater at the same time as your seat adjustments, you might pop your fuse. If so, limit yourself to using one or the other at a time.
The power drain on my vehicle was only from the passenger seat. It's a fairly common problem so I would suggest you start there and see if it resolves your problem, that way you don't lose the memory of the driver seat for no reason.
Okay thanks so much! I will get on ASAP. I removed the cords from the connection but it was still dying I’ll have to cut the cords sometime today. And what are all the equipment you needs if I may ask?
