  • The Roush Supercharger option available through most dealerships are a great add on for your Mustang GT. But when you are ready to really unleash all the power on tap, a custom tune is required.
    Rob recently brought us his 2018 Mustang GT with a Roush Supercharger in search of more power. In this video we do a baseline on the Roush tune show you what a Palm Beach Dyno tune is worth!

      I love it. Reminds me of a SLS AMG that I sw on Top Gear. I also like the Roush curve better, car sounds like it is an auto. That's a power curve for a heavy auto daily driver. The new one is like a race curve for a manual.

    Ken, can u do a video and overlay 2018-19 Coyote engines with Whipple, Roush, Vortech, ProCharger, Hellion, etc? You always talk about characteristics of each platform’s dyno results as a typical dyno curve for a xyz. We have no idea what “typical curve” means. It would be great to see similar 2018-19 Coyote engines dyno results with each power adder color coded on one screen for comparison. Big fan, customer, and UA-cam follower of your work. Thanks.

    Well done Ken as always. Very informative ... appreciate the fact you don't always seek out just peak numbers but rather the average HP or torque, which is really far more important. Keep em coming!

    I have a question. Similiar car for me incoming (2021 though). Does adding the new tune add any considerable stress to the vehicle? Kinda new to tuning and all, i want the extra power but I worry about breaking things. 😅

    • @PalmBeachDyno
      @PalmBeachDyno  3 роки тому +1

      That really depends on how much power you're adding and how you use the car. In general more power tends to break things, but you should be fine with just a tune.

      Beefing up the torque from 3200 to 4500 and the 600 horsepower gain from 6500 to 7500 makes a huge difference

    I will be picking up my 2018 tomorrow with a freshly installed Roush kit. One thing I was wondering, is the 6800 limit on the stock tune due to the gear you used on the dyno? I assume its stopping there because its in 7th or does it do that in all gears? IE, is the rev limiter going to be lowered from 7.x to 6.8k? Thanks!

    Hey PBD, engine torque for vehicles is lb-ft of torque, not “ft-lbs”. There is a difference. And please do real dyno’d runs, hood closed. Open hood let’s the normal heat build up not exist and thus overrates power. You don’t drive with the hood ope, so don’t dyno that way. Open hoods are for car meets, not driving.

      We rarely dyno the Whipple tune as most people buy turnkey Whipple packages direct from us with our tuning. But mid 600s is typical. These engines are extremely knock limited on 93 so it's going to vary greatly across the country based on the quality of that specific 93 octane.

    The stock Roush tune not only takes mechanical durability into account. it passes the same OEM emissions standards as well as catalyst durability/ aging standards as the stock naturally aspirated vehicle. Im a prototype vehicle instrumentation leader for Roush Performance and Ford. We've got some things coming to help those IATs / heat soaking. That looks like a pretty good tune/ dyno graph for the way that vehicle is set up. 👌🏾

      SInce 2015 I don't think the oil pump gears are as big of any issue. You are always taking a chance but we have many customers spinning 8000 RPM with no failures. I believe the 11-14 failures were due to a harmonics issue in the block that they seemed to have fixed. Still a good safety measure to swap them out, but not nearly as big of a problem on the newer ones.

      The best option in my opinion is dropping the roush tank next to the pump. I think having the hot water stored in the tank is a poor design. I mounted a 5 gallons cell in the trunk and have the hot water pass through the radiator first. Then return to the tank. I think the largest volume of water should be cool water not hot.
      With ice in my tank and the factory roush tune I made 657hp and 594tq. Dyno jet black roller.

    I have the exact same setup on my 18 gt. So my question is would headers/exhaust provide any more significant power ? No one seems to able to tell me . Any experience with a setup like that and tuning it thanks for vid

      The headers definitely will but steer clear of aftermarket cats with boost. Go catless or just stay with the factory header/cats. Catless longtubes will give you a significant bump in power. Changing the exhaust behind the cats will not make any more power but will add more sound.

      @@MrIanmclarty thanks any idea how much the gain would be 30 40 50 hp or ? Just an estimate. If the gain will be 5 or 10 hp , I dont see the benefit of time and money, that's kinda why I'm asking
