i can’t believe this is a cruise, the production is incredible!! major major props to the ensemble, that was the most energetic version of nicest kids in town ive ever seen!
@@jonsadj7 I worked as a lighting technician for Royal Cariibbean cruises for a few years. Their shows have only gotten bigger and better since then, and they were impressive when I left. Even I am blown away by this. This isn't even their first production of Hairspray. The first one was more in line with the Broadway production and opened in 2009 I believe.
@@DCW39 So lovely for the actors to be able to work and being able to see all the lovely places they go to. Praying for our actors universally that all theatre productions etc will be able to prosper and that there will be no drawbacks.
You're telling me THIS WHOLE PRODUCTION was on a cruise ship???? Holy crap. That's honestly amazing. I actually thought this was a Broadway production.
All actors can audition for theatre productions and cruise ships etc.And I guess they get to repax during the day and use the lovely facilities on the ship. They're new actors, Broadway stars etc etc.
Acabo de verlo por tres veces en el Symphony viniendo a Miami desde Barcelona. Impresionante montaje , excelente orquestación, voces, técnica. Inmejorable. Royal Caribbean ofrece lo mejor siempre.
An incredibly impressive set to be sure, especially because it's on a cruise ship, but i'm not sure about Tracy starting so high - the opening is iconic for a reason, and it doesn't feel the same with all the (for lack of a better word) theatrics. there's charm in the simplicity of hairpsray's set and special effects - no need to go over the top with unnecessary gimmicks, even if you have the ability to do so.
people forget, the team that owns the rights to hairspray still most likely had a hand in this production given the high production values, also most of the cast is probably equity and just hasn't broken into the broadway scene yet
or prefer the life at sea and whats included in that. (accom, food, travel, days and nights off ect) . ... and not doing 8 shows a week on Broadway... and most get paid more then Broadway / Westend..
As a tech who has spent a career touring shows around the world.... Before the covid-19 I very very very much enjoyed the life at sea.... lifestyle choice Bro
RCL is setting the bar pretty high with their production shows. If you like this - you should check out their production of Grease on the Indy and Harmony. Just as amazing as this - great leads with a TOP NOTCH ensemble. NCL is getting there - but these production values are unparalleled.
@@tylerlindsley5469 Huh? Happens all the time. Even on Broadway. Sometime the changes/magic requires a little help. All in the name of story telling. They even track taping shoe sounds all to create a big beautiful picture.
Ok obviously this production is amazing for a cruise but...are we all gonna ignore that Tracey and Penny basically flashed the audience during Mama I'm a Big Girl Now
It is a live orchestra, but it’s a reduced formation playing with click, it’s made up of the keys, guitars, bass and drums (possibly some brass and reeds also), Not much different to a smaller national touring production, the rest is on click track. The musicians are the house band on the ship who play at various different shows throughout the voyage. There are videos of the pit from this production and other RCI productions on other ships, makes more sense when you see how they pull it off
Seems like a quality show. But as someone who is from Baltimore, I don't want to be reminded of the city if I was on the cruise. I want to forget all about it.
Is the music live though? Bass is punched up, which is a necessity for a production of Hairspray. Not quite as good as the non-equity tour of Hairspray that I just saw in Knoxville though.
i can’t believe this is a cruise, the production is incredible!! major major props to the ensemble, that was the most energetic version of nicest kids in town ive ever seen!
Saw this show on the Oasis of the Seas in 2012 and was amazing!!!
Royal Caribbean productions are incredible!
This production looks SO full. I love it. THE TRANSITION FROM 4:21 to 4:22. Wow.
Jesus Christ this set is insane!! The sheer number of flys???????????
The set is better that the broadway production.
And it’s on a fucking cruise ship! I’m shocked
@James Cooper Royal Caribbean ships use Flying by Foy for the flying automation in their productions.

Ryan Holliday Ah yep, that makes sense with the amount of performers flying on this one. I’m guessing a pegasus system then?
This is what every ensemble should thrive to look like. Wow
these sets are AMAZING!
Only Royal Carribbean can offer to you, a mussical with this qualitity . Brillant. !
ngl it threw me off a ton when Tracy was in the sky
😅😅😅
Xavier Masats it was cool tho!! I really liked it
It's an interesting choice.
OMG I can’t stop laughing whenever Tracy says “ uh uh oh” it’s so funny 😂
Sophie’s vlog Channel omg😂😂
😆😆😆😆
it's the original way it is suppose to sound .
apparantly they condemn those who sings ''whoa , oh oh '' as suppose to uh oh oh
hahaha its crack up
WAIT THIS IS ON A CRUISE SHIP?!!!
Holy cow the opening number alone costs more to produce than my whole life ..let alone on a floating SHIP!!
Think it is!
@@Nenn-qs2yw this was on Symphony of the seas. The largest cruise ship in the world.

One of the best versions I've seen. I didn't love how EVERYTHING was done, but I'm very impressed overall!

0:43 Gets blasted with a million watt spotlight.
KEN lol
Lol❤❤😂😂😂
These performers are so talented!! And this choreography!!!
I love how the sets move like the bed and the houses and also at the song mama am big now
This is amazing!! But the audience is SO DEAD
i believe it’s a tech rehearsal
It’s a pre show for mangers and media
If i was on a cruise ship i’d be this miserable too
Omg!!!! This set is solo much better than the broadway production.
Theyve got less space on the cruise ship than in a proper theatre so they have to use their imagination, when using props and scenography
Wow! So fresh and a great take on a classic! Side note: they really have this girl a cardio workout running all over lol
I saw this live on Oasis Of The Seas. Thank you for posting. Great to watch back.

why is this so much better than the broadway and nbc productions?
I can't believe the flasher actually flashed the audience (or at least in that direction) lol!
some of the choices were interesting but having the bels and edna lower from the sky for i can hear the bells is hillarious! great idea
Very well done. Excellent sets.
wOWOWOAH TRACYS BED IS SUPERMAN THAT GIVES A WHOLE NEW LAYER OFF OMG TO THIS MASTERPIECE I FRIKIN LUV IT
Corny's voice is *so* 60's. I'm not sure what that means, but it's what my head decided to call it.
Superior quality, all in Royal Caribbean is the best. Excelents shows, ships, services. A dream.
I love the ending of I can here the bells at 19:45! It’s so priceless!
The craziest thing is that all the sets are moved out of the way and back in constantly for the three other shows they have

holy shit, i think i saw this live
Omg. I couldnt be up there in that bed
I want to go on a cruise and watch Hairspray!
I love hairspray musical on Broadway
Who plays penny??? She’s great!!!👍
What was with the lyric change in I can hear the bells?
my gosh those dancers are giving 1110% percent
Michael Bull as Edna, just the best. Westend
I saw this production about 2 weeks ago on the same ship. I am pretty sure that the majority of the singing was dubbed in.
it’s not on a ship it’s hairspray live...

Why did Tracy go over a bridge to go from her home back to her home lol?

Sir Arnie if the only thing you get from hairspray is that it reminds you of baltimore you're missing the point hun.

who was that amber and tracy?
Amber was Staphanie Day, Tracy was Kaitlyn Louise Smith

why is she floating lol The staging is a mess and EVERYWHERE lol
I liked it, I thought the flying bed was a fun stylistic choice
Maybe because this is on a cruise
