@@benwickey6661 Oh, I apologize... You did the wonderful illustrations for, "Old Moores' Lives of the Great Enchanters." My weary eyes misread the star/asterisk symbols indicating the artists. Your work is quite evocative and detailed...!✒️🖌
I'm currently working through this book (from a library copy that may or may not be overdue in the near future, until I can secure my own copy), and it is every single thing I wanted it to be. I'm one of those people who were curious about magic and the occult with not much to go off of, and this book straight-up opened my mind from page 1. Every part of this book has been beautiful, as a deliberate working in and of itself. The Kabbalah section has been changing my life since I started reading it. Genuinely transcendental stuff in here.
Dear Readers, I've been waiting for this for over a decade, elated to receive my copy a few days ago. A sumptuous corker of a book, a grimoire for these times, a beautiful artefact to treasure for ever. It is everything it says it is on the back cover and much much Moore. Thank you for a marvellously enthusiastic review!
Moore's wonderful Promethea turned me on to Kabbalah. I've read up more on it, and the discussion of it here is quite enriching. A lovely book. Great review.
So I just picked this up at my local-ish Barnes and Noble. I couldn’t find it at first, so I asked the girl at the desk. She said sure enough they had it, and I could find it in the graphic novel section. I told them that just maybe they should reconsider how this book is classified in their system, being it’s about adult concepts of magic, demonology, spiritualism, etc… and not an up and coming manga classic. She was baffled.
Being published by a comic company and presented like a kids book I suspect Alan Moore never wanted it to shelved in the Occult/New Age section alongside fluffy unicorn fart guides to Reiki
I’ve been reading this for the last two months (slow reader here) and it feels as if the last decade of occult reading is all culminating into this one lovely place. As with Promethea, Moore’s work is always truly enchanting. Thank you for this video!
As someone who followed TST around for 5 years and wrote a book about that I really appreciate “He’s here! He’s fake! He’s got a talking snake!” as a rallying cry for Alan’s brand of shenanigans. I wrote a short a couple months ago that I bet would give him a good chuckle.
Fabulous to have you back.. please more content... its universal mystery why your not a you tube superstar already... quality over quantity... oh no seems I missed a magic in person workshop? though I not looking for card trips.. more the "tripping" around universal matters.. Wow Japan.. what an adventure.. as always for you.. even the Covid times adventures with more content was an adventure for us die hard fans... that content was an actual life saver for me.. this book gonna be my present to myself
I truly enjoy your videos -- your exuberance, your style, your knowledge, and your surprising level of modesty. I mean, honestly - it caught me off-guard. You're obviously well-read, and most will boast, yet you "keep it real" as they say here in the States, and admit that your knowledge has bounds. I feel very much the same -- although I've studied, read, and practiced for decades, I feel I'm just starting out, until I try to place myself with a book such as this that makes me realize just how much information I've exposed myself to. I loved when you said that this might be difficult for "beginners" and stated that you had difficulty placing yourself in their shoes. I do as well. So much seems "old hat" and yet, without decades of dedicated studying and searching, that wouldn't be the case. All this to say thank you for yet another great video, and for sharing your excitement with us. Best.
I totally agree with you. I've read various books casually on magic and have always skimmed over anything to do with Kabballah and this was the first time it was made remotely interesting or understandable. And likewise I paused my reading of The Great When, when I reached the meeting with Spare because I knew this book might add something to the experience. It also adds insights to Moore's Jerusalem .
Thanks for bringing awareness to this book. I'm excited to get it. I trust your opinion on this book. It's rare that I read a great book on Magick. It's usually disappointing or middle of the road. Cheers! 🔥
I've been checking from time to time to see when this will be out then forget for a while. Somehow youtube got over recommending transexual Jordan Peterson impersonators doing disco covers of Deep Purple and managed to feed something I wanted to know about
I'm a cynical old thing, but that book looks fantastic, and your enthusiasm is contagious. I know you're sore the Moore stan, but even factoring this in this book has clearly had a deeply profound affect on you. One question: you mentioned the density but also chose to read this in what feels like a quite all absorbing way; making a ritual out of it, couldn't put out down etc. Do you think that this approach added to the feeling of denseness? Would reading it in a 'I'll do an hour and a half and then leave it alone and let it percolate' way possibly maybe it fell more manageable? Asking for my own sanity.
Is it still worth a look if you're more-or-less a skeptic so far as magic/witchcraft/occultism/Magic(k)/will-working/whatever-the-community's-calling-it-this-week goes?
@@quelltech I believe so, if you’re more interested in the philosophical aspects and cultivating a relationship with your own consciousness and imagination (which I am) over woo.
I just read the google books preview. The style is refreshing, and while I like Alan Moore, and enjoyed the first part of the pulp story about Adeline Carr, all the kabbalah stuff just bores me to death. I suppose ceremonial magic just isn't my thing? I'm more ambivalent about tarot, but the preview didn't touch on that.

I didn’t know Mr M had disowned Promethea. That feels a real shame, it’s a special book. Do we know what prompted that?
I think over who ‘owns’ it, the intellectual property rights - he’s disowned almost all his comic book output.
The character is owned by DC Comics who Moore sees as despicable villains for their shady business practices.
