- Most Solar Power fires are not caused by panels, experts say
A fire that destroyed hundreds of solar panels at an Amazon warehouse in Fresno in 2020 turned out to be the first of several for the company across the country.
So many, Amazon decided to re-inspect every single installation.
The panels are now back online.
But if this happened to the mega cyber-retailer, how safe are the installations on average homes?
“As bad as it is to have situations like these with large incidents, it does end up having positive benefits in the future because these often end up in improved quality standards or installation practice standards,” says Chris Deline, with the National Renewable Energy Lab.

I'm curious as to what brand they were, whether that made a difference
WHEN YOU GO WOKE YOU GO BROKE
They should really pass some kind of law about MC4 connector size standardization. MC4 is just a weather resistance rating and many of those plugs look similar but will not fit together either at all, or fit badly rendering them unsafe-- a fire hazard. It could be a labeling thing. Couch a few sizes and legislate labeling of the size descripton to each plug. It's a public safety feature: it helps prevent fires. These Tesla/Amazon fires sounded like faulty plugs rather than mis-matched ones, but maybe even commercial installers have trouble with the lack of standardization and it was mis-matched plugs.
Why would Amazon choose cheap interconnects for the panels, hmm
No AFCI breakers to reduce cost ????
With proper engineering you can instantly stop solar DC power production
Yeah its called a breaker box lol
@@RodneyOrff-js3xz Nope. Solar arrays go off like horizontal Jacob's ladders; the fires are self-feeding so long as the modules are connected in series, regardless of what's happening at the inverter. The only solution is some kin d of smart electronics or even a fusible link in each module that melts open in case of fire.
There are a lot of connections.
This gives me more of a reason why I support nuclear power.
Solar for small projects, like lighting, or cell chargers is fine. But for home service, forget it!
WHEN YOU GO WOKE YOU GO BROKE
MC4 connectors are different from different manufacturer's when you se differant makes they become loose and arc and burn
I'm currently working on a commercial solar roof mount job, the job has been going on for 11 months, I just spent my first week there.. Its the biggest mess I've ever seen, the men who did the install had zero integrity, almost all of the wires connecting the panels are touching the roof, all 55 inverters have burnt out screens. All of their work needs to be gone through and done correctly..
If you own a factory or a warehouse, please I beg you not to go with the cheapest bidder, some of these solar companies are so incompetent it's not even funny.
Put them in the yard. Install them only on a tile roof. Fixed. If you don’t have a yard then move out of the country before you get solar.
Why are Solar Panels Flammable??? Companies like to blame the installers always, overlooking that even if the installation was perfect, after some years, weathering of most materials including even Paints, plastics, would've occured. Winds, Rain waters, numerous vibrations can be the cause of rooftop installation failures. But the "Titan like" engineers are always quick to blame installers. Just as companies or owners ask for Certificate of Compliance for my Installations, i also askfor CE certificates for inverters, Batteries and other Electrical or Solar related products before i use them for installation, how about that. May be these manufacturing companies should do the installations or the inspections all around the world.
WHEN YOU GO WOKE YOU GO BROKE
Cheap solar panels have a foil and plastic backing sheet holding the cells onto the front side glass which that could be flammable. It's also possible for the backing sheets to just fall apart without starting a fire, this has happened to several installations in Germany. Glass-backed panels are the answer to that problem.
Aaaaaaannnndddddd this is why you ground mount.
A way to drive up prices.!!🤨
Solar power is bunk.

Tesla! No surprise there, like there cars, crap!
No one cares

@@lancethrust9488 OMG that's so original. I never heard that before 😂😂😂. You must think you are so clever
They come out of a factory so they are safe Yeah right.
