I learned English when I was in high school and college. I started speaking English when I started UA-cam. UA-cam is the best school for me to communicate in English not only in speech but also in literature. Thanks.
It's so late for you to be reading this but you explain everything was better than people who are first language english. Extremely informative thank you. :)
i dont mean to be so offtopic but does anybody know a tool to get back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly lost my account password. I would love any assistance you can give me!
@Bruno August i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Virtuovice Tho you made this video 5 years ago and I'm a little late to the party, I'd like to say thank you. You provided precisely the information I'm looking for. BTW, the bear bells are not even slightly annoying. Well done as always.
Dr. Wako, these Silky saws have another, very useful, purpose. They make absolutely the best firesteel strikers I have found. The sparks they throw off the back of the blade are simply superb - even with a firesteel of inferior quality. Thanks for posting.
An excellent demonstration! And you worked very hard to provide it. Thank you. I have the Silky gomboy 300 in my bugout bag, along with my gransfors bruks small forest axe, I couldn't be better prepared.
Thanks for this review I was looking for something like this specifically to find out how all three performed in tests, this helped me decide on which one to get for my survival kit, I settled on the 270. Thank you.
In my experience Medium teeth can be caught by wood sometimes while Fine teeth go smoothly. But the cutting speed is much faster on Medium teeth. So I prefer Medium teeth for 210 and 270. But for my PocketBoy 170 to cut thin and soft wood, Fine teeth feel easier. I have BigBoy in Large teeth. Its sawing motion is long and even Large teeth are not caught. It cuts very fast. So in case of 270, I would prefer Large teeth. They say Large teeth are for raw wood and Fine teeth are for carpentry.
I subbed thanks to your great help. My girlfriend is getting me the 240 over the bahco Laplander I'm super excited. Strength and honor my friend thank you again I'm very greatfull
I just wanted to thank you for your videos. I collect flashlights and also use them in the nature, but this video made me buy a silkysaw gomboy 270. What an awesome saw... I use it when I go camping or fishing for making firewood, clearing branches, fallen trees etc. It looked impressive in your hands, but I was so happy when I received it and used it practically. Awesome piece of equipment, it stays always in my car now.
Hello there , great comparison..thank you..i am buying the Silky 240 for my first bush saw....camping duties...and bushcraft :-) your reviews are awesome and I can really appreciate the way you analyse things and explain the small important details....Cheers Anthony oh, glad I don't have wild bears here in Australia....Snakes ,and spiders...but no bears !
I'm going to buy either the 210 or the 240 primarily for hiking. Like you it will also be used around home for cutting up trees & branches for the fire pit. Which size would you recommend?
This is the first time I've seen the 3 sizes of the saw I've been thinking on achieving. The lack of the double notch in the 2127 leads me to the 2124. Thanks for sharing. Greetings from Basque Country
Your English is broken but you explained more in the first 2 minutes of why the Gomboy is the best then what most if not all native of the English speakers that I could find have even hinted at.
Great review. I just picked up a Gomboy 270 here in Shizuoka($35 @ nafco - half the price of any stores on eBay). I've also used the Silky Longboy pole saw for the higher stuff and love it as well. Made in Japan. Silky saws for the win! More cow bell😎🌲🌲🌲
Nice work with the Nata hatchet when clearing the branches and thanks for sharing your experiences with the Silky saws. They like very effective woodsman tools. Separately, the local bears were learning what your bells sound like when cutting wood verses hiking down the forest trails.
Thank You very much Doctor, for a very informative video, your videos have made it possible for me to get some good products, I look forward to watch more of your videos. Thank You, Doctor.
I go to a rifle range to adjust scopes a couple of times before the season. I go to a clay shooting range to practice for the official test which we need to pass every 3 years to continue to hold our gun license. Many old hunters loose their license due to the failure on the clay shooting test. Thanks.
Rifle license is said to be tougher to keep than shotgun license for old people. We need to take 3 positions, prone, sit, and stand. I have never experienced the rifle test because I have not had a rifle license yet. To keep my deer shotgun for now, I need to pass the clay shooting test. After having rifles, I need to pass the both tests if I need both shotguns and rifles. Japanese gun license system is ridiculous even to me. Thanks.
ありがとうございました This is an excellent video. I do not take saws backpacking. I would only use it for car camping or canoe camping so the 240 is the one for me. I don't think I am strong enough to saw through the bigger logs with the 270 but I would enjoy trying! I have subscribed. I am going to look through your videos for knives that will let me create smaller tinder and use to split the smaller limbs by pounding the knife through the wood.
Hello I have watched your hunting for a couple of years....you dont need the rifles but will enjoy them. I think most dont know you wont get proficient until fall of 2014 with your new rifles. my fav is 308 with scout scope set up.....I have a ruger. Thanks
It is Japanese pruning hatchet "Nata". Its tang stops at the middle lengh of the handle and its square blade is pretty heavy. Its grind is right hand chisel. It is a real forestry tool. Thanks.
virtuovice If you see a bear 210 too short, 240 a little short but will work, 270 two hand just right!!! I liked the bells when you got going! Thank you for your videos!!
Large teeth can be caught by wood fibers in a bit higher probability than Medium teeth. But Large teeth is substantially faster to cut a thick log. To a raw wood Large teeth will be recommended because the fibers are soft. But we usually cut dry wood for fire. Anyway I will compare Large and Medium in 270mm in a couple of weeks. 240mm is the right length anyway for regular outdoor purposes. I need 270mm individually for a survival/rescue purpose in an assumed huge quake. Thanks.
My rifles will arrive March next year. I need to pass rifle handling and shooting test, psychatric interview, my background investigation and so on before having them. It will take a couple of months after starting the paper work. Thanks.
Great review/demonstration, as always! I never heard of these sws before, and I am glad that you posted these videos about them. What was the Big bladed chopper you were using to cut off the small branches? Sweet looking chopper!
I love PocketBoy 170 at home to cut thin wood. Both Fine and Medium teeth are fine with PocketBoy 170. But for ourdoors I think GomBoy 210 is needed at the minimum. Thanks.
Wako you can use pliers and adjust the "set" of the saw teeth to reduce the side friction of any hand saw. It's called tuning and it is an important part of knowing how to operate a saw.
would you recommend the 240 for more general use? it seems to go through the larger branches okay. but will it be suitable for finer work as well? are the teeth small enough to leave a nice finish?
270 is a bit too long for a folding saw in my experience. I mean 270 should have a wider blade for its job not to bend. If you need a longer side folder for camping or such, 240 has better balance as a folder in my opinion. Thanks.
Hello, very great video, great, great review. And great products. For me the Gomboy 210 or Gomboy 240 for small activities in forest. I have one question : why do you have bells on you ? Thank you very much.
I'm not sure if there are bears in his area, but the bells could be used to deter bears. I often use them when hiking in bear country to avoid surprising a bear.
Chamm530 One trick for scaring bears with bells is to take those little Christmas "jingle bells" and put them on your shoe laces. That way, with every step you make noise. Bears usually avoid contact with humans. You can tell if bears are around by looking for their distinctive piles of bear manure. How do you tell the difference between bear manure and the manure of other animals? It's easy. The bear manure has a bunch of little bells in it.
Hi Wako, after seeing your videos on the Gomboy saws I tried one (210 large teeth) and am very impressed with its performance. So what tooth size, small/medium/large, do you recommend for your Silky saws?
Great video... Love how the guy talks [his accent] Reminds me of the scene in Blade Runner Where Harrison Ford walks up to the Oriental guy ..... and he says... "YU BRAID RUNNER"? One of my favorite movies of all time....they REALLY should have made a sequel
I'd say they're not better, just different. I find the sawvivor holds up better than folding saws in very cold temperatures, due to the way it's braced (i've snapped a couple folding saw blades in cold weather by having them bind and bend in the log. On the other hand, that top brace often gets in the way when you're trying to process a log. There are plusses and minuses to both.
wako, where do you get your sheaths for the folding saws? Im going to get silky 240 and will need a sheath, but dont want to spend alot of money on one
I really enjoyed your video. Very nice job. I will buy the Gomboy 270. Where were you when this was made? I think there are Brown Bear on the island of Hokkaidō, but perhaps you were elsewhere?
SN-11 is for Pocketboy 170 and Gomboy 210. global.rakuten.com/en/store/yminfo/item/10009713/ SN-12 is for Gomboy 210 and 240. global.rakuten.com/en/store/yminfo/item/10009714/
+virtuovice I was wanting information on the sheaths, too. I saw you also had one for the Gomboy 270. I don't see that they make a Kozunchi SN-13 if I progress up from what you have already provided, but it looks like the Kozuchi SN-12 might also work on this saw. Is that the sheath that you used for your 270? Thanks for your help. The Virtuovice channel name is clever; I like it.
Greetings from Ukraine! Long time watch with interest your channel. Have you compared the Silky saws with saws BAHCO? As to whether the difference in price? I'm sorry for poor English.
no. You hear, that he does not use the saws in the right angle. The sound is not the same. He does not use all saws in the right angle. So you can t compare this 3 swas in this video.
Can you compare the Gomboy with the Tajima ALOR-A240 on you're next test? The Tajima has a black Fluoro-Coating on it that supposedly makes it smoother and faster.
It is Kozuchi SN-11. I don't know if Global Rakuten ships it overseas. SN-11 is for Pocketboy 170 and Gomboy 210. SN12 is for Gomboy 210 and 240. Thanks.
Hog Wylder The hatchet is made out of blue paper steel. www.toyokuni.net/nata/nata6.htm I ordered handle checkering and the traditional style sheath. They cost almost 100 dollars except for the hatchet itself. Thanks.
virtuovice Than you very much DR Wako! I have been a HUGE fan of Japanese steel for years. This type of design in a hatchet would go great with my Gransfors Scandinavian Forest Axe.

I'm a big fan of all the bells and whistles of these things ;)
An excellent demonstration! And you worked very hard to provide it. Thank you. I have the Silky gomboy 300 in my bugout bag, along with my gransfors bruks small forest axe, I couldn't be better prepared.
Thanks for this review I was looking for something like this specifically to find out how all three performed in tests, this helped me decide on which one to get for my survival kit, I settled on the 270. Thank you.

thank you for your time and effort to make a video and give such a well descriptive review
I used my gomboy 210 to cut up a eucalyptus tree that fell over in our back yard. The trunk was thicker than in your video. Its an amazing saw.
Have to give you a thumbs up for almost having a heart attack at the end from the fast sawing. Cool Sheath for your knife by the way.
Your English is broken but you explained more in the first 2 minutes of why the Gomboy is the best then what most if not all native of the English speakers that I could find have even hinted at.

@4:11 the size comparison for the 210, 240, and 270. Great video! I will be buying the 240 for outdoor/camping.
Thank you :) it is helpful to see size comparison between closely sized saws and practical application of all in comparison to one another
Nice work with the Nata hatchet when clearing the branches and thanks for sharing your experiences with the Silky saws. They like very effective woodsman tools.
Separately, the local bears were learning what your bells sound like when cutting wood verses hiking down the forest trails.
Great work on video mate greetings from spain 👍👍👍
Thank You very much Doctor, for a very informative video, your videos have made it possible for me to get some good products, I look forward to watch more of your videos. Thank You, Doctor.
Excellent demonstration ! Thank you !
Thanks for the interesting, informative videos! I really appreciate all your effort.
Great video and review of the saws. Thanks!
nice test and nice clothes patch . greetz from germany
I just found this video and it has really helped me decide on which Silky to get. Thanks! I'm subscribing. 🙂
I just found this today also! What size are you getting? I'm thinking the 240 for hiking and around the garden at home.
@@flyingtigers7856 I went with the 240.
Thank you for a very helpful video, well done!
Thanks for the demonstration of the saws ... greetings from germany
Thank you for this. It helped me decide which one to get. Much appreciated.

I have the 240 for dry wood, but i use it to cut down trees bigger than my leg. It does an amazing job
Outstanding video.
I subscribed because you did a great demonstration and I had to pay you for all that work somehow.
Hello I have watched your hunting for a couple of years....you dont need the rifles but will enjoy them. I think most dont know you wont get proficient until fall of 2014 with your new rifles. my fav is 308 with scout scope set up.....I have a ruger.

sweet video. the bell is very annoying
It is Japanese pruning hatchet "Nata". Its tang stops at the middle lengh of the handle and its square blade is pretty heavy. Its grind is right hand chisel. It is a real forestry tool. Thanks.
Why are you wearing a bell?
To warn off a brown bear. We have lots on this island.
virtuovice Ah thank you.
virtuovice If you see a bear 210 too short, 240 a little short but will work, 270 two hand just right!!!
I liked the bells when you got going! Thank you for your videos!!
And according to the old joke: ...and the brown bear poop is: big, brown, smells like pepper(spray) and has little rings in it...
Very good and informative video, thanks mate, thumbs up.
Thank you for your video!
I have the 270 and it is awesome!!
Good simple test. Thank you friend.

I have tried many saws but Silky are the best
Great review/demonstration, as always! I never heard of these sws before, and I am glad that you posted these videos about them. What was the Big bladed chopper you were using to cut off the small branches? Sweet looking chopper!
I once owned BK-11 made out of Japanese laminated steel and BK-14 of 1095. Thanks.
They are Kozuchi SN-11 for 210 and Kozuchi SN-12 for 240 and 270. You can find them on Rakuten Global site from Japan.
Please can you review the gomboy 300mm vs bigboy 2000? I'm not sure which one to purchase and your review will help me make up my mind.
I love PocketBoy 170 at home to cut thin wood. Both Fine and Medium teeth are fine with PocketBoy 170. But for ourdoors I think GomBoy 210 is needed at the minimum. Thanks.
Where do we get one of those sweet leather sheaths?
Wako you can use pliers and adjust the "set" of the saw teeth to reduce the side friction of any hand saw. It's called tuning and it is an important part of knowing how to operate a saw.
I love the Silky but I've snapped blades if your not careful.
would you recommend the 240 for more general use? it seems to go through the larger branches okay. but will it be suitable for finer work as well? are the teeth small enough to leave a nice finish?
thank you. Simple and to the point. I will get a 270

i was thinking aboug buying a 240 with large teeth :)
Thank you.
i like the 270 in outdoor
My camera is Sony HDR-CX430 of which 720p 30fps HD in MP4 is optimized to iMovie on Mac.
THANKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great, thanks!

Yeah, because nothing is more peaceful than hiking and listening to bells all day.
Excellent comparison, thank you. 270 for me. :-)
German Bundeswehr jacket!! 👍💪
Hi Wako, after seeing your videos on the Gomboy saws I tried one (210 large teeth) and am very impressed with its performance. So what tooth size, small/medium/large, do you recommend for your Silky saws?
Thanks for the video, very informative, but why the bell?
so you don't accidentally sneak up on a bear
Great video...
Love how the guy talks [his accent]
Reminds me of the scene in Blade Runner

"YU BRAID RUNNER"?
One of my favorite movies of all time....they REALLY should have made a sequel

I really enjoyed your video. Very nice job. I will buy the Gomboy 270. Where were you when this was made? I think there are Brown Bear on the island of Hokkaidō, but perhaps you were elsewhere?
Here it is March 25 and i finally bought one (medium teeth) on your recommendation/review.
Great video!! Do you know where I could purchase a sheath like yours for the 240 model? Thanks Booya
SN-11 is for Pocketboy 170 and Gomboy 210.
global.rakuten.com/en/store/yminfo/item/10009713/
SN-12 is for Gomboy 210 and 240.
global.rakuten.com/en/store/yminfo/item/10009714/
Awesome, thank you very much!!
Silky saws are in a league by themselves, nothing is even close to them . I own two with a third one in the mail.
Those saws have some awesome flexibility!
リびゅーありがとうございした。家庭用・ハイキング用にSilkyGomboy 240 を買いました。
I think that I need a Silky Saw or 2 :-)
@michelexe65 would you say that Silky Saws are better than the Sven-Saw and the Sawvivor?
Kozuchi SN-12 fits 240 and 270. Kozuchi SN-11 fits 210 and Pocketboy 170. Go to Rakuten Global. Thanks.
Hello DR Wako, where did you get those leather sheath belt holsters for the Silky Gomboy saws?
+Benjamin Hawkins Kozuchi SN-11 is for Gomboy 210, and Kozuchi SN-12 is for Gomboy 240. Global Rakuten might help you.
+virtuovice Thank you very much!
+GaCidDawg Yes. Kozuchi SN-12 works on Gomboy 270 as well. Thanks.
Greetings from Ukraine! Long time watch with interest your channel. Have you compared the Silky saws with saws BAHCO? As to whether the difference in price? I'm sorry for poor English.
We have many kinds of folding saws from a couple of domestic makers. So our market has no place to have BAHCO from Sweden. Thanks.
I may have asked this before but what camera do you record with?
The sheaths that you have for your silky gomboys, where did you buy them or did you make them yourself?
KOZUCHI SN11 is for Pocketboy 170 and Gomboy 210. SN12 is for Gomboy 210 and 240. You may get them from Rakuten Global Market. Thanks.
Hi Wako. Where did you purchase the Silky Gomboy 210 mm sheath? I am very curious, thanks.
It is Kozuchi SN-11. I don't know if Global Rakuten ships it overseas. SN-11 is for Pocketboy 170 and Gomboy 210. SN12 is for Gomboy 210 and 240. Thanks.
Would you please tell me where I can get that AWESOME hatchet that you have? Is it Tamahagane?
Hog Wylder The hatchet is made out of blue paper steel.
www.toyokuni.net/nata/nata6.htm
I ordered handle checkering and the traditional style sheath. They cost almost 100 dollars except for the hatchet itself. Thanks.
virtuovice Than you very much DR Wako! I have been a HUGE fan of Japanese steel for years. This type of design in a hatchet would go great with my Gransfors Scandinavian Forest Axe.
tysm.now i know i have to get 270😃
is the bell to keep bears away?
which cutting tool do you use at 4:24 to remove the twigs?
I would like to know too!
good video, what's with the bells?
+Stephen Damos The bells warn off the dangerous brown bears which we have 10 thousand of on this island.
Can you target practice off season?
