Way back in 1990, Russian govt and aircraft makers along with their Sukhois and Migs hosted an airshow here in Manila, Philippines. Man, that afternoon, I skip a couple of subjects in school to make it on time for their flight demo.
And YES, just as I was expecting, overwhelmed, impressed and since then I fell in love with the SUs. Also with some Flanker models as well... Big Fan Here! Spaisiva Russians for showing us your air superiority! Your planes are very impressive, specially in acrobatic manouvers. Some makers that came and show before and after the russians, here, never I see the type of maneouvers that you guys have.. only simple and common moves others do...
Too bad, Philippines cannot afford to purchase Sukhoi or Migs at this time. I guess Ph govt will be ordering some Saab Grippen instead. Should be good as well... anyway, they call it, "the smart fighter". Dasvidanya!
As an American. All of the maneuvers look absolutely impossible. The engineering of that jet is amazing. Never underestimate your opponent. You have to give credit where credit is due. It was built to dogfight. It has a superb radar, IRST(infrared search and track sensor),3D thrust vectoring engines and good pilots. Europeans and Americans tested the X 31 and it was a damn good plane. They did not put thrust vectoring into none of their fighter jets. The Russians did and now they are the kings of thrust vectoring.
It is great for airshows but that's about it. None of this is going to happen if you're fueled up and armed. All this great maneuverability didn't save it, when it was shot down over Ukraine. IRST is decent but still lacks behind western technology, and the radar... well, can't be that great if even the chinese are replacing it with their own. No need for thrust vectoring anymore, pretty much everything we have killed in the past 40 years has been from a range beyond the pilots visibility, only being guided by radar or infrared sensors.

1. It was not shot down in ukraine as opposed of what you think. I don't suppose that is an Su-35 because there simply is no proof it is burnt out.
2.Let us say it was shot down. You can clearly see it is a crash as the missiles themselves have not exploded. If you inspect other jet shoot downs, You will see nothing of the airframe or any other weaponry. So normally a mach 2 missile will obliterate an aircraft moving at least mach 0.6.
3. It is a pilot error and thus is has crashed and this could be proven by other jets in this conflict like an Su-34 going in an uncontrolled spin and eventually crashing.
4. It's IRST is superior to any western tech you might find due to the fact that it uses QWIPD ( Quantum Well Imaging Photodetectors). These enhance the power of the IRST and enable better and longer range detection with even more accuracy and precision. So research it a bit before spitting out some nonsense.
5. It's radar can detect the overhyped stealth of f 22 And I can explain if you want.

Not hating or anything but 5th gen fighters like the F-22s or F-35s should massacre 4th gen fighters.. Maybe the Su-57 might have a chance.
It's certainly a good air superiority fighter for developing countries due to its capability compared with its cost.
Here in New Zealand, we're probably going to go get the F-16V Block 70/72 or JAS 39E/F due to their AESA radar, BVR capability and NATO compatability.

I think your misinterpreting the word “design”. The U.S does not design things to look pretty. They design em to look pretty AND be the best, second to none. The F-35 and F-22 are in classes of their own. Truly remarkable pieces that only the U.S has the capability in designing. Mind you, the F-22 it came out in 2007. Russia’s su-57 first came out in 2018 and STILL doesn’t look nearly as good or even has the numbers to back it up. If anything, it’s just a whole lot of paper and sheet metal installed on an Su-35 ahahaha
