- This was a really fun and challenging video to make! I genuinely love every season and my opinion is not static so these rankings are likely to change at some point!

I've decided to experiment with the premier feature today! I am a bit unsure about it so let me know if you prefer this way to just the normal way of releasing videos!
Premieres are great don't worry
i like it!
I don't mind either way, but I've never managed to watch a video as it premiered, as most of the content creators I watch live in a 12+ hour offset from me.
Yeah
How do we go about voting you as the podcast person.... Please replace Ed Gamble.
I liked Rhod Gilbert, because he made it his mission to humiliate Greg at every possible moment.
I think that series is one of the best.
Could not agree more with series 7 being ranked first, every single person was brilliant and James Acaster was just so thrilled to be there, I love him!
Absolutely! I love it so much!
The only debate is from 2nd place on. Series 7 is clearly #1
@@mikepictor I wouldn't say clearly. For me 5 is easily the best. I'd put 7 as #3.
James also found perfect way of being "rude" to Alex while not coming off as asshole. My problem with recent series is that Jamali is too rude and it may be funny sometimes but often it's just not good
Series 5 was the best...
Season 7 - Rhod Gilbert. Not a single weak link in the cast, and they complimented each other perfectly. Rhod beats out James for the best cast member simply because he was an absolute wildcard with nothing but contempt for Greg in every studio clip. Some of the best telly I’ve watched in a long time.
Joe Wilkinson made Season 2 leap to my top three. That task where his toe touches the red green was the single funniest task in the entire show.
The red green is genuine tragedy.
"Please don't take it away from me.."
I think the opportunity came a bit too soon for Joe....
His method of impressing the mayor was legendary.
i think a big draw for me with season 10 is that everyone was so bad at tasks, i loved how lost katherine parkinson was through it
I can’t tell if they were all bad or if it was just the tasks all being harder than usual
@@tateanderson213 I think a bit of both. The combo of Katherine having no clue and the tasks being complex added up.
@@tateanderson213 Mawaan tried to inflate an egg. And I think he was the smartest cast member.
i love season 10 so so mhch
completely agree with season 6 coming last, i think if this was a normal show it would be everyone’s favourite but taskmaster is such an amazing show that it’s hard to find one to come last but season six just didn’t have as many stand out moments except the cake and “tracksuit” 💗
Yeah thats exactly how I feel, all the really memorable moments come from other seasons
I think one of the problems with series 6 is that it's overshadowed by how good series 7 is, as well as series 8 having a lot of pressure to follow such a good series
@Northern Sticks omg no season 4 is my favourite! the movie trailers, mel being a delight, joe's smiles and noel eating alex just to name a few!
I think the best way to show off what series 6 feels like is the task where Liza, Asim and Tim had to work out they had to hop.
that was great fun though, I have to say Im not seeing the season six bad thing, but theres always gotta be that one guy right)
When they had to have fun then exactly recreate it was really funny
@@coolfulldowns Six was fine, but it was between Five and Seven, which were excellent, so it suffered in comparison.
I'm a little biased towards season 6 because of Russell Howard, who is the reason I started watching taskmaster.
i totally agree with the Hugh being underscored thing. I think it became a gimmick that he was bad, especially at the prize tasks but it did get annoying when he did really well but to keep up the joke, he got scored 5th or 4th
#JusticeForMark
The high octane stolen pants was the best prize submission of the entire season.
He deserved full points for that.
personally i love series 2 i think its really underrated, and joes potato throw was genuinely the saddest moment in british tv history
Sally is my favorite contestant of all time. She surprised me so much with how crazy she could be. I miss her everyday.
She can't throw the _jelly_ !
I did not really know who she was. But I am a fan now. I like that, even though I watch a bunch of English panel shows, I usually get introduced to someone new each series.
Yeah, her surprising (yet pleasant) craziness also surprised me, and makes her one of my favourite contestants as well (together with most of the series 7 cast). The moment that really showed her insanity was when she covered Alex in food, lay on top of him and just kept laughing as if it was a perfectly normal and fun activity xD.
Agreed! Her wonderful wackiness was a joy to behold! The 'Watercooler Moment' is amongst my top three individual tasks that I've seen!
My only issue with Season 4 was that I had built up an idea in my head that there would be some sort of payoff to Mel pocketing the wax seals, still my favourite season though. Season 7 is second place despite how much I love all of the contestants.
Bob Mortimer's crazy mind is the best part of taskmaster, by far the greatest contestant
I have to say Im still deeply in love with season one, I love seeing Roisin or Frank in everything, Ramesh being genuinely angry most of the time is amazingly funny and Tim Key just being Tim Key adds to it so well
Favourite task from Season 3 was the snowman.
"Bastard's crying innit?"
Not being British, I only recently discovered Taskmaster here on UA-cam and have been enjoying it a lot throughout the lockdown. Most contestants are unknown to me when the season starts out, but it's a testament to the quality of the show that I end up liking so many of them by the end. Something in particular that's worth applauding is how effortlessly hilarious many of the female contestants are. Comedy is still often a male-dominated scene and it isn't helped by Hollywood trying to shove the likes of Amy Schumer or Melissa Mccarthy down our throats. It's a shame the British comedy scene isn't better known to an international audience.
Jessica Knappett and Kerry Godliman in season 7 are just brilliant laugh out loud hilarious
@@elizaheathen My mum nearly wet herself after Jess nearly fell off stage after being told that she wouldn't be blindfolded while walking on stage.
It's nowhere near as good on UA-cam. You should find a way to watch a full series.
Its an unspoken difference between american puerile slap-stick self-help culture vs british old fashion deprecative non-chalantness err...

My favourite is series 4. I loved all the contestants so much, especially Noel and Mel, and it was just such a fun and joyful series - though I do agree about the scoring. Closely followed by series 7 and series 5 ❤️
Totes McGoats!
Ohhh, gang!
I loved Ed Gamble and Rose Mattafeo. They were incredible and a great duo! Rose had really made an impact on my life.
I mostly agreed. Series 7 is certainly the best I felt. So many memorable moments! But Rhod Gilbert was my fav from that series but everyone was great!
Rhod Gilbert was amazing!!
My 2 favourite moments was Romesh with the watermelon and rizwan trying to fill an egg with helium. I laugh out loud at both scenes everytime I watch them.
really loving all the taskmaster-adjacent content ive been finding recently - love that there's a little community of fans
I agree with Season 7. Jess falling off the stage (now named The Knapett if you look), The box, and the Fez task aremy highlights.
Season 7 is clearly the best yes.
Rhod Gilbert being my favorite, it feels like he was only capable of being scored 1s and 5s.
One of the shows most unpredictable players.
The backstabbing was kept at a reasonabe level and so on.
Everybody was a bit weird, but not in the same way so that worked.
Katherine Parkinson has earned a special place in my heart!
Couldn't agree more :D I love her!!!
"Am I the spider?"
My immediate thought was S7 first, with James Acaster as the standout. Glad you agreed! But every series is so good, it really is difficult to choose. My order would be:
1. S7
2. S2
3. S4
4. S5
5. S9
6. S1
7. S3
8. S10
9. S8
10. S6
Very similar to yours, except I apparently loved S2 where you didn’t. I think it’s because I’m judging that series more on the quality of the tasks instead of the contestants’ chemistry. The tasks have gone downhill in recent years in my opinion, but I do appreciate that it must be really hard to come up with new tasks all the time. I just don’t like how restrictive they are now.
Also I agree with you WHOLEHEARTEDLY about Hugh and Noel in S4 - Hugh’s ingenuity deserved way more points than he got, and I feel like they put in a disproportionate number of art tasks, which naturally favoured art school graduate Noel.
season 4 is by far my favourite, all the contestants had great chemistry with each other which made the show feel like a group of mates having a laugh
i like to imagine a series with james, ed, romesh, nish, and josh widdicombe. it would be absolute carnage
they're all mates and would tear each other apart during the studio shows
Widdicome would get destroyed.
this is literally my dream season
Kathrine Ryan was one of my favorite ever contestants on the show. She was so funny to me on the show. But the watermelon task from series 1 is still the funniest thing I've never seen.
I will never get over Katherine crying because of how much she doesn't care about sports.
@@katcooper-parker6213 Katherine's mess in CoC was a top moment, too.
My top three are probably Series 4 (which is when I started watching the show because I was a huge fan of Noel at the time - like Tumblr fandom huge 😂 - and I genuinely love all five contestants), Series 5 and Series 7
I absolutely love series 4. My favourite by far
For me, taskmaster seasons (and contestants) are like dogs. They are all my favorite, every single one
I loved series 4 and Mel was totally my favourite, too. I came for Noel but stayed for Mel. She was just so adorable and positive!
Series 2 had some brilliant tasks and the best individual cast
Finally, finally, UA-cam algorithm recommend this to me!!! I love this video and love that I feel like I have a younger meme savvy friend to relate to these shows with who also like to analyze the little things on screen. Just subbed!
Season 2: know for building bridges and not seeing them.
Three years later and Series 16 has completely shaken up the rankings!
I will happily rewatch most episodes of every single series, apart from 10. I can honestly say I will never rewatch any of it. I know the social distancing thing couldn’t be helped but I didn’t like the tasks and I could only take to maybe 2 of the contestants. The earlier series will always be my favourites although some tasks and episodes of the later ones were genius too.
I do have a soft spot for earlier series too. Yeah the tasks weren't the best and if you didn't enjoy the contestants then i dont blame you for not wanting to rewatch them. I personally loved the contestants
Yeah in my opinion 10 had every episode poisoned by two elements I could not get passed: Katherine Parkinson was treated more harshly than she could handle (the fault of the hosts there,) and Daisy May Cooper was a genuinely unpleasant person.
I have no idea why people liked Cooper so much. She was a poor sport, I found nothing that she did funny, she was apparently angry at Richard Herring for daring to be someone she didn't immediately know, and so on. The season was only saved by the fact that she lost, she hated losing, and she lost to the guy she had spent the last weeks being cruel to. Thank God she won't be on champion of champions.
@@WYCD you’re deeping this show far too much. She’s competitive, hence her ‘cruelty’, she’s not cruel
@@WYCD curious as to what you mean by Katherine being treated worse than "she could handle". Do you think she genuinely struggled on a personal level here?
wild. series 6 is one of my favourites. loved the individual performances of each contestant in the tasks, and it has a generally comfortable vibe overall. I do see a weaker studio performance though I think I came to like each contestant enough that I didn't really mind.
Me realising every hates my favourite series of Taskmaster 😂
In all honesty, I get why people don't like series 6 and 8. I like the series mainly because I'm a fan of someone in the series, I'm a big Russell Howard fan (if he wasn't in that series I probably wouldn't like it as much) and my family have been watching The Chase for as long as I can remember, which is where my love for those series comes from. However, I refuse to believe that someone can watch Paul Sinah wander around a car park like a last grandad and not find it the most hilarious and wholesome thing in the world
My personal bottom two are series 3 and 9 - I just find them a bit forgettable
Yeah and I understand why people love those seasons, i do think alot of it comes down to which comedians we prefer. Paul Sinha was an absolute delight to watch!
That's true, Paul was absolutely hilarious 😂
I also didn't like season 6 BUT I LOVED season 8! I loved Paul's and Joe's awkwardness, Sian was adorable, Lou was a bit annoying but I enjoyed her craziness and Iain was annoying a little at first but once he understood that Greg didn't reward competitiveness , he relaxed and became funnier and laid back
I found everyone in 9 either boring or annoying really. Paul, Sian were dull to me. Ian and Lou annoying. Joe was kinda boring, but I don't think he would have seemed it in any other series tbh if you know what I mean?
season 6 is one of my faborites
My personal ranking from least good to best plus who I think is the MVP of each season:
19. NYT1 - Nicola Couglan
18. S8 - Joe Thomas
17. S1 - Romesh Ranganathan
16. S10 - Mawaan Rizwan
15. S6 - Russell Howard
14. S3 - Paul Chowdry
13. NYT2 - Jonnie Peacock
12. S2 - Joe Wilkinson
11. S15 - Jenny Eclair
10. S16 - Sam Campbell
9. NYT3 - Mo Farah
8. S13 - Bridget Christie
7. S4 - Noel Fielding
6. S14 - Fern Brady
5. S12 - Gus Khan
4. S9 - Ed Gamble
3. S11 - Mike Wozniak
2. S5 - Bob Mortimer
1. S7 - How dare you make me choose!
So to sum up - it's all brilliant
Great job! I loved them all, but agree that season 7 was the best. Rhod's creepy video was absolute genius and soooooo creepy. I love how Rhod took advantage of their friendship to get that.
0:25 and 20:14 Kerry Godlinan was very enteratining, I agree. The series 11 favourite contestant I predict will be Mike Wozniak.
Series 7 is absolutely perfect but I thought I was biased because it was the first season I watched, I’m happy to see everyone loves the season as much as I do!
Tim vine was for me one of the best contestants there’s been. I’d have put series 8 at the bottom not 6.
I completely agree but Joe Thomas was just so great
Season 9 will always be my favourite! Absolutely love Katy Wix so she made the series for me!
My fave too!
Rando season 3 trivia: Al Murray is the great-great-great grandson of novelist William Thackeray Makepeace, while Sarah Pascoe is the great-great-great granddaughter of Makepeace's close friend James Kenney.
You should be making these as tier list videos. Not only do they get more engagement, they're also way more entertaining and better at keeping people's attention for longer videos.
Saw the title and came in expecting to spar, but honestly I think we largely agree. I'd probably put Season 1 a bit lower (I'm a newer convert to Taskmaster so I don't really have the nostalgia factor) and Season 2 a bit higher - for me, the nursery rhyme task just exemplified how excellent that cast was!
Great video :)
haha i was expecting more people to disagree with me as well tbh. Glad you enjoyed it!
Im glad I could have been your inspiration! 😃 great video and choices too. As with you I enjoy all the series but prefer some to others, My series rankings reasonings are:
1) series 9 - this is just the best for me, one of the few series where I found every contestant genuinely funny and as it was the last Dave series I think they wanted to go out with a bang and did just that. My favourite contestant was Jo Brand
2) series 4 - this is probably my favourite lineup as I loved all the contestants going into it and the tasks were great, the studio segments were hilarious too. My favourite contestant was Joe Lycett
3) series 2 - this has a sentimental value because this was the first series I actually saw, the contestants were great and really gelled well, and as you say the series that features potato gate deserves a good position. My favourite contestant was Katherine Ryan
4) series 7 - great range of contestants and Rhod was absolutely brilliant throughout but sometimes it did get a little too heated. My favourite contestant was Kerry Godlinan
5) series 5 - the song for a stranger task was one of my favourite ever, they were all entertaining and I really felt you could connect with the contestants. My favourite contestant was Mark Watson
6) series 10 - I really enjoyed this series and helped us through a tough time, I know it couldn’t be helped but part of me feels the distancing of contestants took away from some of the intimacy you get, it was very funny and entertaining. My favourite contestant was Johnny Vegas
7) series 6 - I liked the range of contestants and group tasks were entertaining but this isn’t the most memorable series. My favourite contestant was Tim Vine
8) series 1 - in all fairness I haven’t watched this in a while but this was very much a trial and error series, but what a great series to start with. My favourite contestant was Romesh Ranganathan
9) series 3 - this followed series 2 which is high up so was also going to struggle to compare and I wasn’t that familiar with all the contestants but had some entertaining moments but it wasn’t the most memorable for me. My favourite contestant was Al Murray
10) series 8 - this is the only series I didn’t feel fully invested in. as you said there was a lot more tension between people which can be funny but it seemed aggressive this time. Some entertaining bits but probably my weakest series. My favourite contestant was Paul Sinha
Thanks for the inspiration! Its great to see your reasonings as well!
@@jamiedoestv thank you 😊 loving your work on this channel
I havent seen the first three seasons but my favourite to least favourites were:
7 (obsessed! garage-gate! hula-gate! literally every james acaster moment!)
5 (probably my favourite cast)
8 (lol i really liked the drama between lou and iain)
4 (good vibes all round)
10 (katherine parkinson looking like shes about to cry for 10 episodes straight)
9 (david baddiel going absolutely senile)
6 (it was fiiiine)
Our rankings very much in the same direction!
10. Series 10 easily. This is the only series I didn't love. Favorite competitor: Mawaan
09. Series 6. Exact thoughts as you. Favorite competitor: Lisa
08. Series 8. Similar thoughts to you but I loved Lou. Agreed on Iain. Favorite: Lou
07. Series 3. Definitely the weakest early season. Favorite competitor: Weirdly Paul just for how completely unsettling and unusual he was.
(NZ goes here. Such a lovely surprise)
06. Series 2. Almost identical thoughts to you. Great stuff. Favorite competitor: Kathrine
(Champion of Champions and New Year's Special both go here. Really loved both).
05. Series 1. Was so hooked from the opening episode (I'm American and started watching during series 9 but a friend made me start from the first series). Favorite competitor: Romesh who might be my favorite from any series.
04. Series 5. Really strong! Gets better each watch, plus the all-time best group task (Rosslyn!). Favorite competitor: Aisling
03. Series 9. My top three are really hard to distinguish. This was my favorite overall cast chemistry but a few tasks and scoringn keep it out of the top. Favorite competitor: Ed and Rose tied.
02. Series 4. Best individual castings IMO, chemistry aside. All 5 were brilliant. Favorite competitor: Noel
01. Series 7. Agreed with every word you said, including your top competitor. I could watch James and Rhod fight for days
Great rankings! It was really hard for me to distinguish between the top 3 as well!
This must have been so hard to do. I can only say that now knowing of Paul Sinha's diagnosis it's makes it really hard to go back and watch that series without just feeling legit sad and uncomfortable. ❤️
Haaann same regarding Mel in season 4. She was my favourite.
She had this all round optimism and was so endearing, yet hilarious because while she was trying her best she was also not taking it really too seriously.
You could tell she was just having fun.
Like her poor but genuine attempt at hiding behind a plant thinking it was a good idea in the camouflage task always makes me laugh so hard haha
I agree with your overall ranking especially the top 3 although depending on mood and because I am not a decisive person I would probably rotate between those three.
I remember being “sad” about season 3 because I love Sara Pascoe (“it’s so pooey Alex” lol) but it lacked something and I think you’re onto something by pointing out that some of the contestants maybe were too similar in their humor or approaches to the tasks.
As for the way Greg gives out point, I do agree that sometimes it seems harsh or unfair (like you mentioned regarding Hughes and Noel on both ends of the spectrum). And while at times it annoyed me, I tend to personally not being too bothered by it. Greg is supposed to be grotesquely mean, and everything in this show is supposed to be absurd. So despite, I do agree, that we get attached to some contestants, root for them and get angry when we think they should’ve won or been recognized, in the end it’s just all for fun and watching ridiculous things happen on screen really and I am fine with that haha.
Hearing someone else say that Noel was overscored a lot makes me glad. I've thought I was the only one for so long and it always left a sour taste in my mouth for series 4. I absolutely adored all of the other contestants
So I've found your videos 3 times now in the suggested videos on the side. I had absolutely no idea you only had 2,000 subscribers! Your videos are very professional 😁
Wow that blows my mind cause I love season 8
series 9 being so high rated despite most of the contestants being introverted is so cool
I really loved Series 8 for some reason. I included Series 11, and I want to know what your ranking now is.
1. Series 8 (love SiOe!)
2. Series 5 (the songwriting task, of course, and Sally Phillips)
3. Series 7 (the classic video game task)
4. Series 4 (Noel in the camouflage task, and Mel, sooo love Mel!)
5. Series 11 (Mike Wozniak, hands down, and Sarah Kendall tasting the 'bag of salt')
6. Series 2 ("What's your name?")
7. Series 9 (loooove Katy Wix, and Rose Matafeo's musical skills are amazing)
8. Series 10 (the hippo!)
9. Series 1 (Josh and counting...)
10. Series 3 (didn't really enjoy Al's spending and Dave's cheating)
11. Series 6 (we all know why; still good, though)
i also really liked s8, it was my fave before 11/12/13 came out! i personally found the cast really endearing and fun to watch
I actually love that my top 6 fave contestants are all women :)
not in any order but I LOVED Sally Phillips (should have won), Alice Levine, Mel Giedroyc (should have won), Katherine Parkinson, Aisling Bea and Jessica Knappett (should have won)
I definetly agree with all the opinions, even though my ranking is slightly different, and right now I feel like 11 is gonna go straight to the bottom, as much as I like Lee Mack, the contestants don't have the best dynamic and chemistry (the lack of audience dosn't help, but like i didn't even notice it in series 10, so it's not really an excuse). I just feel like there's something lacking, it is still early days so it might change but idk
aaah my top three is the same as yours, just in a different order! absolutely lovely casts and chemistry between them, amazing to watch ;; v ; and omg yeah those one-off scoring techniques were deffo problematic haha, and since them being studio tasks they couldn't change the way they were scored in hindsight;; hopefully Alex and the team won't employ those slightly unfair techniques again looool ;w;;;
Such a good videooo It's so nice to listen to someone talk about britsh telly from such a nice point of view 🥺💞
I honestly agree with the entire placements. I basically rank them by “would I rewatch whole episodes or scout out certain tasks?”
And yea it’s great at the top!
Basically agree with all of this! I would personally put series 8 below 6, and 4 above 5. But as you say, it's so difficult to pick and on any given day have a change of heart.
I got to say that you are watching a “reality tv” it’s not scripted, saying You didn’t like a season because it was too “real” is a bit foolish. People get upset, people do things they don’t mean and apologize, that’s the beauty of the show, it brings out the essence of people. Saying you didn’t like a contestant because he got too competitive, well that’s just he’s true self, saying that almost means that you didn’t like the person himself, saying you like joe better then Ian is just ridiculous to me joe never went all out on the show like Ian, he was too timid to be himself, go watch Nickelodeon if you can’t handle the realness of people.
For me it goes like this:
1. Series 7 - Borderline perfection, perfect blend of everyone being competitive but also doing their best to be hilarious and chaotic while doing it, everything Taskmaster should be. One complaint I guess would be Phil Wang didn’t offer anywhere near as many memorable moments as others (outside of his literal wang I can’t remember much), but everyone else is a first class guest that I either was in love with beforehand or became in love with after watching the series.
2. Series 9 - An interesting series since this has 2 comedians being very competitive with each other and another 2 who basically couldn’t care less about the entire show, but that what makes it so damn fun. I love when Greg gets one of his mates on the show like he did with Rhod in series 7 and here the back & forth with Greg and Ed Gamble are wonderful.
3. Series 8 - Lou is crazy and I love it, Iain is such competitor but fails almost every time and I love it, Joe is confused and baffled 100% of the time and I love it, Paul is a genius and is clearly out of his comfort zone throughout and I love it and Sian is just adorable and I love it
4. Series 10 - I was very worried about the lack of audience and social distancing rules, sometimes it affects the show negatively but Johnny Vegas is just too funny to ignore, and Katherine Parkinson being nothing but confused was a delight every single time, meanwhile it was great to get introduced to someone like Mawaan who also had some great moments
5. Series 5 - Bob is amazing at almost everything he does and Nish’s constant failures never fail to make me laugh, some of my favourite tasks of all time here “Rosalind is a fucking nightmare” springs to mind instantly, as well as Sally’s often ludicrous choices
6. Series 2 - Joe Wilkinson being disqualified is one of the most tragic and brilliant moments of tv ever, quite a few other great highlights too, but the show was still finding its feet here, I hated how Katherine used her phone in the Swedish task for example and I’m glad the tasks aren’t designed in the same way where someone can just Google answers, but still very enjoyable series
7. The Specials, so CoC and New Years - The guests are all great and there’s nothing in particularly wrong with these, but with them being either one offs or 2 offs they do lack a lot of the chemistry that gets built up during a proper series, no ones fault really, just the way it is.
8. Series 4 - Everyone is too nice! I like all the guests but I find myself not revisiting this series too much since I like the show to be more chaotic and competitive but still focused on comedy, this series was still good and I liked how Hugh brought some lateral thinking a lot of the time and I do think Mel and Noel are adorable, and Joe has some great lines here or there, but Lolly didn’t manage to offer much of anything memorable and the lack of a rivalry between anyone did hamper it a little.
9. Series 1 - For a first series of a new show, it’s good! It’s just not great either, Romesh smashing a watermelon is a big highlight and some interactions were great, but this series does stand out as being the most different, which is fair, they did a hell of a lot with what they had, it’s just that it is very obvious the production values just weren’t there.
10. Series 3 - This one again struggles with a lack of a rivalry, it’s hard to judge the earlier series for this but the fact of the matter is for me they’re very enjoyable but only occasionally reach the truly high levels of some of the more recent ones. I really like Rob Beckett In this series, he just seemed like he was having fun and his chemistry with Sara were very obvious, but Al constantly doing the same thing of paying people got old fairly quick, I genuinely can’t remember a single thing Dave Gorman did, Paul was okay but nothing special, as a whole it’s enjoyable but severely lacking in any high end moment that I’ll always go back to.
11. Series 6 - This one is a shame, I like Tim Vine, I like Russell Howard, but my god there was just no chemistry in this series at all, the atmosphere is dead, none of the tasks were completed either genuinely impressively or so unbelievably shit that they were hilarious, everything was just sort of frustratingly average and predictable, everything that I don’t want Taskmaster to be, people seem to like Liza making Alex sit on a cake which is fine I guess for some people but not for me, this is the only series I’d recommend people avoiding if they haven’t seen it, unless you’re a diehard fan just skip it.
Series 10 was my absolute fave- everyone was borderline hysterical from lockdown and I loved that 😂 and apparently I’m the only one who didn’t like Rhods over familiarity with Greg! And the fact he kept humiliating Alex, I didn’t enjoy...
Totally agree about Rhod. Makes the series a bit hard to watch for me sometimes.
Series 8 for me at least isn’t as enjoyable as series 6. But like you, I agree that it’s difficult to outright dislike any series. 6 had a fun panel but some not as great tasks, and 8 had the same problem but the panel wasn’t as likable.
But honestly I’ve just been binging this show since lockdown started proper. Once a week my mother and I watch this show together. I cannot state how much of an oasis Greg and Alex and the crew have provided during the desert that ‘20 and ‘21 have been.
“Brilliant”..! (And I agreed with most of your assessments too.
I paused the video just before you started listing the series yourself and made one of my own. I was surprised by how similar both our lists ended up being! Like you, the top 3 were really hard and I think any of them could be number one.
Here's my list along with my favorite contestant from each series:
4 Noel/Mel
7 James
5 Bob/Sally
1 Romesh
9 Jo
2 Richard
3 Sara
10 Mawaan
6 Lisa
8 Joe
10. Series 8 (Joe Thomas)
9. Series 3 (Paul Chowdry)
8. Series 6 (Liza Tarbuck)
7. Series 10 (Katherine Parkinson)
6. Series 9 (Jo Brand)
5. Series 2 (Joe Wilkinson)
4. Series 5 (Bob Mortimer)
3. Series 1 (Roisin Connaty)
2. Series 7 (Rhod Gilbert)
1. Series 4 (Hugh Dennis)
This is fun. I disagree on some of the picks, but that's just personal preference. One thing, though; a big part of the scoring is the random chaos of the points. It is not fair. But that is part of what makes Greg the Taskmaster.
I'm gonna have to disagree that the season 2 cast didn't have chemistry or camaraderie. Obviously Jon and Joe did because of 8 out of 10 cats; I feel like Katherine and Richard were funny and charming enough to sort of penetrate that existing dynamic and sort of involve everyone in studio banter. I feel like the outlier is Doc Brown who sort of throws off the whole feel of it because I feel like he didn't connect with the rest of them the way they tried to do vice versa
For me series four is way lower. I feel like Noel was awarded way too many points a lot, as well as having multiple art based tasks, when he was the only actual artists. That really frustrated me a lot.
i love noel but I thought the same thing throughout -- the man went to art college ffs
would have made me so upset as a contestant lol
@@Marbles991 Yes!! Hugh would have been disqualified for that! The one where they had to coreograph a dance was also frustrating. Hugh had a hilarious dance and Noel senselessly hopped around and he got 5 Points??
The banana camouflage was genius, but yeah the bias was super evident in the choreography task
Totally fair ranking, however season 3 being so low does hurt a little -purely for Paul Chowdry bit during the "build a snowman" task. The phrase "bastards' cryin innit" goes through my head at least once a day lol
Great analysis. Like you I felt S6 fell flat, and I wasn't really sure why I wasn't enjoying it until I watched your vid. Liked and subscribed :-)
Needs to be a count on the word brilliant 😛
I literally agree with every single ranking! 7 and 5 are my top two faves and I found myself nodding along to absolutely everything 😂 the only thing is I feel like the only one not in love with Katherine Parkinson, I feel like she could’ve put in so much more effort and it just bugged me
Haha yeah thats fair tbh people always disagree when I say Nish isn't one of my favourites for the same reason 😂
@@jamiedoestv I do get what you mean, I loved nish because I feel like his wasn’t a lack of effort, he’s just a dafty 😂😂
For me:
Best to worst
1) S.9
2) S.8
3) S.5
4) S.4
5) S.3
6) S.2
7) S.6
8) S.1
9) S.10
10) S.7
Don’t know why just hate series 7.I think it’s because James Acaster really annoying.
I think with some of the series some of the contestants would work better in other series. Like Alice Levine would work really well in series 10. Russell Howard would work well in series 8.
Yeah if james acaster isn't your cup of tea then I get why you wouldn't like series 7. And I agree i think i would have liked Alice a lot more of she was with a different set of people!
@@jamiedoestv 100% agree some people just don’t work with others. I also thought that some people could have performed a lot better with different tasks and prizes. I really like series 8 because of Joes awkwardness and Sian’s slight annoyance. I do understand though that Iain and Lou could get quite competitive!
Flipped through to see what the number one was, heard her saying James Acaster was her favourite and lol noped right out. Good to know right off the bat how radically different our opinions would be from one another, when he's in the bottom 5 contestants on that show imho
Having watched them all, I recently restarted from the beginning to see how each held up. I say 4 and 5 are really the only the seasons where the show was running on all cylinders. Not that any season is bad, but there are problems in each that keep those two in a class by themselves. I would really have problems ranking any outside of those 2.
1 = Definitely a funny season, but it just had too many dreadful tasks. For every Eat the Most Watermelon or Paint a Horse ON a Horse, there was a High-Five a 55-Year-Old or Buy Something for the Taskmaster.
2 = A better ratio of good-vs-bad tasks - with some genuine classics - but even some of the clever ones were ruined by contestants using their phones or involving strangers. (I am so glad this show has done a better job of keeping contestants away from the public - which I know I am saying right after watching Lee Mack involve the public in his loo roll task.) 2's bigger problem, though, was that it just wasn't that funny in the studio. Outside the show, 4/5 of this cast is hilarious, but this was not one of the funnier seasons and it kills me to say that because I was excited to see Joe and Jon. Joe's style of humor just doesn't work in that type of setting, Doc Brown doesn't seem to be funny at all, and the other three had their moments, just not enough of them. This was a season that definitely needed more episodes.
3 = This one hurts. The tasks were solid, the studio portion was smooth, the cast just wasn't up to the "task". There isn't a single task I would consider a classic, and many with great potential never reached their potential because of them. The Charades one stands out, with Rob throwing a tantrum for most of it and the other team involving the public. Then there was Al who kept whipping out money instead of using his actual brain, which made me wonder where this series would've gone if it had more episodes, and I'm so glad it didn't. It was also a bit of a climax because it didn't take long to figure out that Rob didn't have a lot of competition on that stage.
6 = I'm not as down on 6 as other people are because it is still one of the funniest seasons, especially in the studio. But it still has a lack of classic tasks.
7 = Yes, people love them some Series 7, but this one definitely felt long at 10 episodes. Much of this is due to Phil and Rhod, who just kept doing the same "jokes" in the studio. The tasks nearly made up for it, but it became obvious early on that this series was going to be won by a woman.
8 = Easily the worst season, with four contestants who had no business being on that stage. At this point, people now were actively campaigning to be on the show, which should have told Alex that they were probably going to be too competitive and not terribly funny. And that came true. Joe and Paul were practically comatose throughout. And this is the season they attempted to run in America! This is also the season where I think Greg's point-giving started becoming aggravating.
9 = The show is usually better when there's only one person who doesn't do well in the tasks. Not only did this one have two, but they were teamed up! Thankfully it was a funny season - the Water Feature task is one of my all-time favorites - but this too often felt like only three people were trying. Greg's point-giving was probably worse than the year before, with Jo garnering way more than she should have. Greg excelled in the studio portion though, so having two bottom-dwellers was more tolerable.
10 = I loved Daisy at first, but by the end I desperately wanted her to lose. I don't tune in to watch people scream at each other. Plus, it often felt like people weren't being smart. Whether that's the fault of the contestants or the show not giving them enough time to be smart or the tasks being too complicated... who know? The tasks ended up underwhelming because all anyone could focus on was speed. Greg's point-giving was at its absolute worst here, with Mawaan often the brunt of Greg's randomness. He should've been in the running, but too often he got lower scores than people who didn't deserve to be above him. That said, Greg was the VIP this season with his withering commentary.
Taskmaster was a blessing to find. In my country, the situation is very tough and depressing, so when I stumble on this show I found a soft pillow to lay down for 40 minutes. Watched series 1-10 in the span of 5 weeks and I must say: Britain has the best cast of comedians. Every season, I found myself rolling around like brie on flour. As the British say: baffled.
Series 2 was much higher up for me personally. And I'd swap 10 and 4 as well. I'd put 5 over 7 just because of how wholesome they were in group tasks. The group tasks of S5 were just stellar.
Personally (skipping season 9 because I haven't seen it):
1. Season 8 (Lou Sanders)
2. Season 6 (Liza Tarbuck)
3. Season 5 (Bob Mortimer)
4. Season 4 (Mel Giedroyc)
5. Season 1 (Romesh Ranganathan)
6. Season 10 (Daisy May Cooper)
7. Season 7 (Kerry Godliman)
8. Season 3 (Sara Pascoe)
9. Season 2 (Katherine Ryan)
Just my personal opinion, though!
i agree with this so much! the only thing i would do is put series 1 a bit lower. 4 5 and 7 are definitely the best! James Acaster is my favourite ever comedian so i think that’s why i love series 7 so much but i thought everyone in that series (especially Rhod with his bullying of Greg🤣) By the way, i’ve just discovered your channel and i’m so happy i did! You just got a new subscriber ☺️💕
I never thought about my ranking but since series 7, 5 and 4 are the ones I rewatch on repeat, I'd say I agree with your top 3! 😂
Love this video, agree mostly! James is my absolute fave person haha. 💓
I tried ranking them myself and it’s not easy at all. It feels like I’m enclined to somehow give a better ranking to series I’ve watched recently. Here’s in reverse order with my favorite contestant from each season.
11. S6 − Asim Chaudhry
10. S3 − Sara Pascoe
9. S10 − Mawaan Rizwan
8. S7 − Phil Wang
7. S8 − Joe Thomas
6. S9 − David Baddiel
5. S11 − Charlotte Ritchie
4. S4 − Hugh Dennis
3. S2 − Jon Richardson
2. S1 − Frank Skinner
1. S5 − Sally Phillips
I’m of the few who didn’t enjoy series 7 quite as much. Although, the Space Invader recreation from Rhod Gilbert is one of the most impressive thing that has been done on the show and I was actually shocked it didn’t win that task. On another note, series 5 and 1 are the ones that consistently entertain me, I love every contestant from both of them.
7 and 5 are definitely my favourite of the first 10. I liked series 4 at the time, but I think this would now be my least favourite of the 10 now. You are so right about Noel getting preferential treatment. Greg seemed to have a bit of a crush on him. Also Hugh came across as a bit humourless imo. Mel and Joe were great though
My favourite contestant from each series
Series one Romesh Ranganathan
Series two Jon Richardson
Series three Rob Beckett
Series four Joe Lycett
Series five Bob Mortimer
Series six Liza Turzac
Series seven James Acaster
Series eight Paul Sinah
Series nine Ed Gamble
Series ten Johnny Vegas
Series eleven Mike Wozniack
Top ten people I would like to see on taskmaster
10 Mo Gilligan
9 sue perkins
8 David Mitchell
7 Emily Attack
6 Joel Domment
5 Scarlett Moffat
4 David Walliams
3 Harry Hill
2 Alan Carr
1 Matt Lucas
My list would probably go...
1) 4 (Mel)
2) 7 (Jess)
3) 5 (Sally)
Bonus) NZ (Leigh)
4) 9 (Rose)
5) 1 (Romesh)
6) 10 (Mawaan)
7) 8 (Joe)
8) 2 (Richard)
9) 6 (Asim)
10) 3 (Rob)
Not too disimilar I think, except maybe rating 8 a bit higher. 7 is iconic, but I do think there are a lot of tasks I don't care for in this one. I think that just speaks to the strength of the cast though, that they make something as dull as throwing something into a bin over a fence a bit more entertaining.
Series 4 I give the edge as like a best "all-rounder". It's got a wholesome atmosphere, and probably my favourite prize tasks of the show's run to date. And Mel is hilarious in so many ways.
Series 6...I mean I don't think it's under-rated (the competition is too stiff), but I do think it's underappreciated. The range of tasks were quite weak but I do feel there're more classic moments than just the cake. Liza's HOP discovery and ensuing pain, Asim's face when he realises he has to do impressions of a laser-beam turtle and 8-bollocked cat, Tim's hook misfortune, "I'm a vegan!", "you said something about an old lady rubbing herself silly", etc.
S3, I do like the cast but I find it the most forgettable for some reason. Like I only really remember Surprise Alex, the snowman, and the foam hand charades one.
S8, I can understand the hyper competitive Lou and Iain bringing it down for some (I do think Lou loves the show and showed amazing creativity, but just takes it waaay too seriously) - but I think there were some very strong tasks this series, plus Joe and the frightfully under-appreciated Sian carried so much awkward and incidental humour that it carries the series higher. And I did feel Iain's pain at watching himself back, I warmed up to him after that as he was a bright spark in the studio keeping the energy going - and was noticably more supportive of his fellow contestants post-hammock.
My obsession with ghosts and taskmaster is common apparently
I’ve started watching taskmaster because of you!❤️❤️
ahh great I hope you're enjoying it!
series 4 is easily my favorite, but 7 & 5 are top tier as well
This could benefit from a bit more structure. For my admittedly ADD addled brain it seemed like a 20 minute long sentence, and I had trouble understanding which contestant or season you were talking about.
A clearer space between sections would make it much easier to follow.
Do also bear in mind that the above comment is coming from someone that has severe attention issues. I'm hoping to make up for the gentle criticism with a "like" and a couple of comments to boost the algorithm.
No I agree - even just an overlay text with the ranking and the choice in the top left corner would help greatly! Or actually just timestamps in the description would do :)
Other than that nice video!
I'd love to see a video where you rank US remakes of British shows (The IT Crowd pilot, Spaced pilot, Inbetweeners, The Office, etc.) Or just a video where you rank panel shows like Mock The Week and 8 out of 10 cats
One thing that really brought series 9 down for me is the extreme difference in competitiveness between Gamble/Matafeo and Brand/Badeel. Now to be fair: Badeel might not have intended to come across like that :p. Meanwhile you have Katy in the middle being the only balanced one.
Hello! Great video, I loved it. Where you you think you'd put series 11 in the ranking? I think it might actually be my favorite... Lots of love, Justin
I love season six just cuz I love russell and tim is hilarious
Season 5 - Aisling Bea which I don’t see talked about as much
