Fitting up a V6 conversion restomod to my EH Holden restoration project

- This is the fifth episode in the build series that follows my journey as a backyard restorer, undertaking a 1964 EH Holden panel van restoration that holds sentimental value to me as it was originally started by my panelbeater Dad, who has passed.
In this video, I go pull out the engine and transmission from the VR Commodore in order to bolt it into the EH. This includes making some cuts in the floor and of course, running into some troubles along the way. But as normal, I show you how I work through it to get everything all bolted up.
Throughout this build series, I share what I am learning along the way and the mistakes I make in order to show you, that anyone can have a crack at this type of restoration (if they have the patience!). I am not a panelbeater or mechanic by any stretch, but love spending the time in the shed restoring these old classics.

Go remote oil filter rather than cut😊
That’s a good idea actually. Thanks mate
@@skillosshedalso wondered if you could find a shorter oil filter that will fit the gap?
remote oil filter housing kit will prevent more cutting?
I'm loving this build Skillo , l have had 3 EH sedans myself one was a premier l would love that van. Will you put Windows in the side or weld them up?
Thanks mate and thanks for being part of the community!
Nah going to make it windowless using the sides from MadFolk. I did a video on the panels I’m going to use.
Dad too had owned plenty of EH’s so you’re in good company!
Looks like where the shifter linkage goes rather than cutting more out, relief cut at each end and bend it outwards to meet with the tunnel piece from V6 conversions?
Yep good idea. I’ll do you one better…just remembered Dad had a full floor cut from the VP so thinking of chopping the tunnel out of it and just welding that in 🤔. Maybe next episode 😂. Thanks mate
Of all the conversations to do these are crapolla Eh is fooked now
To each his own mate. It’s not for everyone and I guess it’s lucky I’m holding onto this one then 😉
Should understeer really nicely. 😅😅
😂😂
Autofrost for the electric aircon $1700, electric water pump around $600 & use a Astra electric power steering unit then get a higher amp alt to run it all. I would highly suggest going aftermarket plug-in ECU & maybe get a PDM to eliminate all the pesky relays in the OEM harness.
Love the EH. gunna be sick when you finish,
Great build and conversion, mate. Love the details you go I to explaining what you're doing. All your choices of cars is what I'm also into. Thanks for the good content.
Thanks for watching and the kind words! Having a teaching degree amongst other things certainly means that I tend to ‘overexplain’ things so nice to know people such as yourself appreciate it ☺️
This'll be an interesting project Skillo. Good luck! (lots of photos are handy too)
Yep, taking plenty of them too for Insta 😂😂
Use a astra power steering pump electric - they work great
Oh yeah…lll have a look into it 🤔. Thanks mate
I can get a hold of a full electric (under dash on column) steering column from a barina, if you want.
Do you already have a Power rack installed though?
@troynutter8902 yeah running the Commy rack already. Not an issue now as I’ve decided the AC is too hard so will just run the Commy PS pump and rack now and no AC. The Commy unit doesn’t fit as I’d hoped 😞
Alot better than the old red engine they are dinosaurs now.
Indeed. I had thought about the idea of making it completely original and stock, but really like the restomod approach and Dad wanted a V6 ☺️
Hey matey, there's a big ass fan behind you.
😂😂😂 yeah had to turn it off to record…very noisy 😂
I’ve put a v6 in a EH sedan years ago with a pat Gardner chassis kit he’s based in Moree V6 specialist
Yep…the IFS and IRS and a heap of the stuff on my build is from the same guy. Dad used his stuff 25 years ago too so good stuff
@@skillosshedI love this just got here n I love the story plus channel!
