    I'm in love with that voice. It is so nice to hear someone with absolute pitch and an aswesom baritone.

    More people need to know John Cale...he really is the greatest. So under-appreciated...

      The sound was mainly John Cale's achievement. 'To me the sound of the band was John Cale. That was confirmed a few years later when I worked with Lou on Transformer. John was the subversive element of the band, one of the most underrated musicians in rock history. That guy is a danger, a true character. ' David Bowie

    I'm so glad that John Cale seems to have more of an audience than he did 30-40 years ago. He isn't as well-known as he ought to be, but the people who like him really appreciate him. He still sounds great!

      Well I wouldn't be so sure about that. There are quite a few uploads here of the Maestro that have very few views, where I feel to be the only one on this planet listening to his music. Apart from Hallelujah none of his videos here on UA-cam has reached 1 million views. Considering his influence on other musicians and the duration of his career, it baffles me again and again that such a musical genius is still being constantly overlooked.

      I love to say, his voice growed over the year. While I love his CONCEPTS and SITUATIONS, where he makes Music, his voice was too thin for me (take for ex 1919), it s just, what I hear.

    Yes, he is a brilliant artist for sure, classically trained and tutored in the avant-garde under no less than John Cage. Kinda makes for an oddball rock and roller... Became a avid fan after Vintage Violence and finally got to see him live on the Mercenaries tour. As far as voice, it's amazing to contrast the vocal quality of say, the spoken Jeweler to his primal screams of live performance... but yes, certainly his music is more than just about his voice, and also more than just rock and roll.

    He has aged so well, I think, because he has always had a rough not very perfect voice. His music has never been just about the voice. He is a brilliant musician, composer and poet. My brother introduced me to Cale about 30 years ago. Thanks Dan!

    Such beauty and grace, total musical mastery. Witty and funny songs and beautiful melodies performed with exciting arrangements. He's at the height of his innovative powers. And what a beginner's guide to John Cale: one of his best songs from Fear starting the set and then proof that his new music is up to past gems and he's still developing. I think NOOKIE WOOD is one of his best records.

    I've been il love with his music/voice since my teens, he brought such an amazing atmosphere to the Velvet Underground with his violin and mysterious look, I would stare at his pictures en dressily. And he is a peerless melodist. He ages so well...

    • @patriciofernandez2711
      @patriciofernandez2711 7 років тому +4

      I don't think that's quite the case, even in more recent interviews he seems to handle himself pretty well and give concise and interesting answers. But I think phrases like "you are still much loved..." and "please sir, can I have another?" are somewhat offputting in a performance-interview situation due to their strangely intimate nature. The host is obviously very fond of John's work and knows a great deal about him, and the very pertinent questions he asks make for a great interview, but his affectated manner of speech and silly remarks make the conversation slightly awkward. Or maybe i'm just reading to much into it and John was actually having a blast playing and answering the questions.
