    Amazing how much retractable central vacuum hoses have come along, since they first came out! Fantastic job!

    You should look at Wago spring loaded connectors. You can stick wires in, close the clamp, and they’re really solid and reliable. And you can remove them again just as easily.
    They’re widely used in Germany instead of wire nuts for household wiring, so they are presumably very reliable.

      I'm familiar with such connectors. It's odd that you mentioned this I do have a box of them I'll give him a try thanks for the suggestion!

      They're becoming more popular here in the US too. So-called "push-in connectors". Ideal is one of the major manufacturers here.

      Super expensive, for no reason. They are vastly superior to wire nuts/twist-on connectors though. Once they become the norm, I'm sure the price will drop.

      For low voltage low current uses, Home Depot sells little packages of push-in connectors that take three wires; I used them for splicing in the 24VAC wiring from the two vacuum system switches in our house. However, they are only removable with wire cutters.

    I've got a NuTone in my house that was installed when the house was built in 1986, and it still sucks like crazy. I should probably look into if they ever released an upright attachment with rollers for it because it'd be crazy if they did.

    Amazing system! In our much smaller houses we mostly uses canister vacuums. USA is way up head to us. Offices and Companies often uses Henry like vacuums or wet/dry vacuums. I doubt if this system will be common here someday. Nevertheless, I enjoy seeing the possibilities for our future homes. Thanks!!!

    You mentioned that you can use electric nozzles with this system, were you referring to a battery powered nozzle or does it actually provide an electric hose to use plug in electric nozzles. I love central vacuums, since I live in an apartment I use all of my central vacuum units by plugging a hose directly in to them, I have at least one central vacuum unit in every room.

    You mentioned the old school electrical system will not really be used anymore. I would like to add the retractable hose but keep my 110v hose that powers my head unit. Anyway of doing that with a hide a hose type system or would I need to get a battery powered head or a 110v pigtail vacuum head?

    • @PerformanceReviews
      @PerformanceReviews  2 роки тому +1

      Yes I'm referring to new system installation not existing central vacuum systems. Most new systems get sold with a battery operated head.

    Can you have two hoses one regular hose for the basement, and the Chameleon hose for upstairs, or do you have take out the Chameleon hose out of the pipeline, before you can vacuum the basement with the regular hose?

    The Chamaeleon is a lot better in some respects than the hide a hose And not having to have the doors be the seal is nice and also being able to remove your house and plug it into regular central vac outlets

    • @Arizona-Vac-Pros
      @Arizona-Vac-Pros Рік тому +1

      Hide a Hose had that option years ago. Not popular so discontinued. Also, why does it make a difference if the door seals or the hose inside the valve? It does not since you can only use one hose at a time with both systems. 20 years of experience with retractable hoses and I wont make the switch because they could not lock and seal the hose at any length do to the patent.

    • @flagmichael
      @flagmichael Рік тому +1

      I don't see the problem with the door seal. We've been using a first gen hide-a-hose for a bunch of years and that was never one of our complaints. The sock has been my biggest complaint since the beginning. Here in arid Arizona the static buildup in the hose attracts dirt and dog hair to the sock like crazy, and it does not come off until it rubs hard against something... like corners of walls.
      When the budget allows I will be replacing it with the current hide-a-hose, which uses unsocked hose. It will require some drywall work, but I have been doing so much of that in the last year (plug: That Kilted Guy is my mentor) that I will probably cut out a foot square to make the job easier. Honestly, any repair under six by six inches is better done by making it larger for better support and less eye catching. I haven't done orangepeel texture like our host has, but I am getting pretty good with the knockdown texture we have.
      I've considered an RF switch handle - we had one years ago and it was a problem child, from battery availability to dead spots throughout the house. The hidden hose systems (hide-a-hose and Chameleon) make handle control rather pointless. I'm walking back to the outlet whenever I want to retract it and turn it off, so why complicate things?

      @@flagmichael You can change your hoses from sock hoses to the Rapid Flex hoses without making changes to your existing Hide A Hose system. I am in the Phoenix area and stock most hoses when you're ready. If you are considering updating to the new inlet valves from Hide A Hose I can help you there as well.

  • @techseth

    Genuine question: why don’t you solder your wires?
    If you’re shootings for an overbuilt reliable connection, I always use solder as a hobbyist mechanic. Is it different for vacuum wiring?

    • @PerformanceReviews
      @PerformanceReviews  2 роки тому

      The vacuum wiring is attached with screws that hold the wire in place. Nothing's going to move once it's put in place. Nothing to get loose. The wire itself has a coating on it to keep it from getting corroded. So the need for braising this is unnecessary as well.
      Great question thanks for watching!

    I should clarify, Parts are made in China and assembled in Ohio. Hide A Hose parts made in USA and assembled in USA. Also Hide a Hose has had the end cap available for a very long time to pull out and plug into a standard inlet which turned out to defeat the purpose of having a convenient system. You can call them and order it if ever needed. Also, Hide A Hose has always had hoses available with the option of a Smart Hose Sock or a Rapid Flex Hose. Also lock and seal at any length. Again, more options with Hide A Hose. Just making sure facts are correct and advertised correctly. I would like to understand why the hose sealing inside the valve is better than at the door? I don't see why when you only use one hose at a time. For your master bathroom put in the Hide A Hose Mini.

    • @PerformanceReviews

      Chameleon valves are made in the United States. By HP products. No Chinese Parts there. You are actually gaining features by going to the chameleon. Like being able to take the hose out of the wall and plug it in to a regular outlet and having a hose sock.
