The Moken is so tried and true. This version of the Moken has everything people have wanted in the new redesign. It’s an amazing kayak.

Love these, fantastic video, looking at buying a new kayak but will have to shop and order online. This kind of review actually gives me info about the boats. Too many people think reviews are walking around a boat and opening all the hatches. I can find all that on manufacturer websites and videos. Get on the water, talk about rocker, maneuverability, glide, carry, paddling comfort and feel, fish ability etc. Don't worry about having to talkabout every damn bungee strap and hatch unless there is something significant about it, we can all see the damn hatch.

Like you, I prefer the LiteTackle. I love the wide open deck area. It seems ideal to bring along your pup. I also like the better rod holders capacity on the LiteTackle. Plus at 6' 3" tall with a 36" inseam, I doubt I would be comfortable on the FeelFree. Great video, I learned a lot.

I finally got Moken 12.5 V2, and love it. The things I like :
The removable sonar pod with the finder all in one unit is fantastic.
    Paddles very nicely.
    Seat is comfortable.
Love that I can store 4 rods in the dry storage compartment. Really came in handy on a family camping trip where space in the truck was limited.
The wheel in the keel is awesome. Maybe it wouldn't work great in the sand, but its worked in every situation i've been in so far. I don't see the need for a trolley , at least for my needs.
About my only gripe, and it may be just me and my inexperience, is that i'm not as comfortable standing and fishing as i'd hoped. Its not bad by any means, but i can't really get relaxed standing and casting. I guess that's the trade off of being such a nice paddler.
All in all, i'm happy with my purchase and think i will be using in for years to come.

Im at 5 monutes in and im really diggin that moken. I really like the out of the box features which for someone like me who has got the one up from the entry kayaks is keeping my eyes open for one that meets the needs of what is missing from those 5-6oo dollar kayaks.

Love the video’s. I’m looking for my first Kayak. Something I can fish lakes/ponds with and use for multi-day river trips. You sold me on the lite tackle, the big blocky hulls of most fishing rigs seemed odd even to a newby like me. They eliminate some of the advantages of a kayak and made me question if a canoe wasn’t a better compromise. I can’t wait to get one on the water.

I purchased the LiteTackle and it is an amazing kayak. I ordered the Moken 12.5 for my son. Was really torn between that and the Ultralite. He can go into the Moken and will not have to upgrade his in a couple of years. He paddled my Cresent this past weekend and got a little tired. I have a 220 cm Aquabound, I know it is too short but it's what I have for now. I am going to go ahead and get him a really good paddle so it should help him when his Moken comes in.

The Moken “wheel in the keel” helps when dragging on ground, over rocks in shallow water and reduces wear on a traditional keel. The Moken is also pre-drilled for a Beavertail rudder system. I personally would rather have more open floor space by not having the compartment or the sonar pod for my dog or readily accessible gear. Also, the enclosed dry well significantly reduces the amount of gear you can carry versus having an open bow where you can stack gear higher and strap it down.

  • @terribleatfishing

The ability to put a rudder on the boat... not for turning but for for tracking when paddling long, calm stretches, is a very worthwhile thing to consider on any multi-purpose kayak.

My vibe has treated me well but I think, I'm going to switch over to a Crescent LiteTackle. I just prefer the simple layout and open deck. Hope I can find one.

I like the larger flatter deck space of the Yak Attack. Not only for the additional foot room but also for ease of getting into and out of the yak. I think that the center platform box in the other one would be a real "trip hazzard " for many of us older kayakers, imho, of course. That said, I could make either one of them work if dressed out like they are featured in your video.
Nice, informative video! Enjoyed it. It did help me to see what considerations I would need to focus on when buying a fishing yak.

I've had a Big Fish 105, Bonafide SS127, Hobie PA12, and now a Moken 12.5 v2. Hobie was definitely best for fishing, but the
Moken is the best all around. I was too afraid to take that Hobie Mirage drive in shallow moving water. Moken paddles way better than the Big Fish and Bonafide but is still plenty stable. Beavertail rudder is nice on the Moken, but not necessary for the boat to handle well like it was on the Big Fish. Wheel in the keel is so convenient. Very happy with it and the best value of all the kayaks
    I've had.

I too have had A Moken 12.5 and now a lure 11.5. I love it and wouldn't change it. I love the wheel in the keel and that it came with the rudder when I bought it. I'm looking at the high back seat at the moment. I have an Australian Facebook web group "Feelfree Kayak owners Australia . In Australia the Moken 12.5 V2 Runs about $1500 Australian so the US price is very good.

I’m 6’3” about 180 lbs. will be mainly fishing and fly fishing, potentially duck hunting and camping. will likely fish lakes, inshore, and some rivers. Based on other reviews it seems like the crescent can do it all.

i was looking at the moken v2 for the longest time and felt like it was a better value than the crescent, however ive kind of changed my mind and think id prefer the crescent. the front hatch opening is huge compared to the moken and its also flat with bungees on the front for more storage. i also dont fish and think id like the open deck better. rear tankwell also looks bigger. im sure when they do a revision they will add cup holders like the new ck1 venture and crew have.

Nice. I have the Moken 10 v2 and really like it. I am 6'2 200 pounds and generally don't feel overly confident fishing standing up. Not a game changer though because Kayak fishing is so fun. In a few years when I am ready, would the larger Kayaks like the Moken 12.5 and Crescent Kayaks Lite Tackle be noticeably more stable?

    • @HeadwatersKayak
      @HeadwatersKayak  4 роки тому +4

Both the bigger boats are noticeably more stable. It’s all about volume. How much air is displacing your weight. Also a longer boat carries that volume further into the bow and stern which gives you more stability.

What's the weight on the Crescent Lite? I had a 2017 Moken 12.5 and I loved that boat. But it was HEAVY, at 73lbs. If the Crescent Lite is noticeably lighter, that would direct my decision immensely. Also, I never loved the long center console my Moken had, and since I don't use electronics, I wouldn't like the one that's on this V2 Moken either. Like many, i want a more open cockpit for a dog to come along.

Really like both of these kayaks. But Lifetime has 2 very similar kayaks you can find on sale for $400 or less fairly often. One is called the Yukon its a tad over 11 feet. I have this one and really like it. They also have the Tamarack angler pro. That one is a tad over 12 feet. Both have nice comfy seats and open decks. They really are pretty similar to these kayaks. And for somebody who wants to get into kayak fishing cheaply they are a great choice.

Of these two which has the more comfortable seat, I'm trying to decided between these two kayaks. The rep from ACK told me that the seat in the moken is a better seat and that the moken is more stable. He also told me that the moken can have a pedal drive added in sonar pod. I'm looking for the better all arounder. I'm a bigger guy, about 5'10" 280, I would like to be able to standup and cast/paddle. Any insight would be helpful

GREAT video. I wish it would have given me a clear answer though. lol I have a 10' kayak I use to do a little river/whitewater action in but want to start fishing as a way to get on the water more. (Can only do a couple whitewater trips a year) I will be fishing some small lakes/ponds and bigger lakes mainly but hope to go down to the coast at least once in the future and also have a big camping adventure in mind for the future as well. (125 miles down the Buffalo) I am torn between the two and cannot try them out because of Covid and the fact that you cannot find a Moken anywhere in the USA. I hate making this purchase without trying them out and have watched tons of videos trying to figure it out. I would go with the Moken 12.5 in a heartbeat if it wasn't for the lack of stability standing. I definitely cast better standing as I pitch and flip a lot so I cannot see myself casting sitting down a lot. But without actually trying it from a high seated position I don't know if it something I can get use to. I don't know if I would ever mount a fish finder so that feature isn't a must have. I feel like the Moken 12.5 fits the bill in every way except the standing part. Is there anyway you can put an extra two cents in to help with this dilemma?? Thanks for a your work.

Hey Dan where would you put the vibe sea ghost compared with these two?

    • @Johhnnyy
      @Johhnnyy 4 роки тому

Have never been on the water with the sea ghost but have stood on it and looked at them as well as the new 2020 versions. The crescent is the ultimate paddling/kayak experience insanely smooth with a layout that is like a blank canvas very modular and adjustable. The vibe is definitely gonna be more stable but ur gonna sacrifice that smoother paddling, also for me the center console and pouches are amazing at first glance but u will realize u don’t need them and it was annoying to me that the center console doesn’t allow you to turn or move ur feet, u r locked in with ur feet forward. To me the vibe adds a lot of bells and whistles that aren’t necessary and overall slightly less quality, they are also made in China which is a turn off for me. The crescent is American made with super high quality and a very well thought out design with such an amazing paddling experience that I will never give up

No I would not say it’s noticeably lighter at all. I think my crescent might be a touch heavier then the Moken, or maybe the Moken feels easier to load because the handles.

Hey there Dan. I'm literally just getting into kayak fishing myself (never been out in one yet), I'm 5'9 230 and I've been absolutely torn between the Moken line and the Lure line. My biggest choice I guess is the Moken 12.5 V2 vs the Lure 10 V2. Is the seat in the Lure 10 worth losing 2.5 inches length and that extra 100.00?
The kayak shop up here in WI only has a Moken light in stock for demo, so I'm gonna try that, would you agree that if I enjoy that one I would like the others?

I've been looking at Wilderness System Tarpon as an old classic. But after this I am also wondering about the Moken or the Crescent. How would they compare on a river? I fish slower moving parts of The Snake River so there is some current; I don't do anything too crazy. However, am wondering--is it going to be harder to get back to the boat dock more so with one than with an other? I fish both upstream and down so looking for the best kayak to accommodate such crazy behavior. Any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.
