This is a stunningly beautiful performance. The chamber orchestra arrangement makes all the musical details crystal clear. Tenor Karim Sulayman has a pure, even timbre that falls gratefully on the ears and his diction is perfect; I got every word of Agee's text. This is the second time I've heard this haunting work with a tenor (the first was Russell Thomas' lovely performance also available on UA-cam). I won't give up any of the soprano performances, but it's good to hear Barber's exquisite music a little differently.
