This also started to occur on my Macbook Pro with Sierra 12.3. I was able to fix it, just by removing the alias in my dock that points to a network folder.
It is strange that it does that, but anyway the solution was pretty simple.

This is an error I am seeing sporadically and it's driving me crazy. I believe it has to be network drive related as it never happens in my own house, where I have TimeMachine configured to backup to my Synology NAS. However, in every other location, where I do not have access to my NAS on the network, I experience this freezing dock/app switcher etc. It doesn't even always get triggered by me loading apps, sometimes I'm just working away in an application and then go to switch windows and boom, it's frozen again.
I could really do with a resolution as it's been going on for months!

+David Plimpton This will happen to me no matter what location I'm at or if I'm connected to NAS or local TM drives. Happens every time I launch an app and started when installing El Cap beta early on. Even after reinstall of the OS and restoring via TM, still occurs. I'm at a point where I think the only resolution is a clean install and manually restore files and apps. I might wait until I pick up a new MBP to do this since it's sooooo time consuming and frustrating dealing with all of these apps and their serial numbers/activations... (eg. old version of photoshop and Office where who knows if I'll get these activated again).

+Tom Nash It's so frustrating. I certainly can't be bothered to do a fresh install. Like I say, it never happens when in my own house. Very strange! I've just discovered that opening TextEdit causes the issue every single time - just done it 4 times. Very strange again. What's TextEdit trying to connect to??

+Tom Nash Believe it or not... I think I've fixed it! I had 3x alias shortcuts to remote folders/shared drives on my NAS sat in my Dock. I've removed those and now no matter matter which application I open my dock hasn't frozen once. That's taken about a year to work that out. haha.

+David Plimpton Holy hell. That was it! I went to test out what you mentioned and realized that it wasn't happening anymore and I remembered that last week I removed a shortcut to shared network drive that was in my dock! Nicely done.

Have either of you guys figured something out rather than reverting back to Yosemite? This prob is driving me crazy. I did a reinstall of the OS but the prob came back after a few weeks :(

I'm experiencing the same problem where if I open certain apps, it wouldn't launch and it shows the spinning ball for like 1 minute before the app automatically terminates it self. It is pretty weird because when I restart the mac, it works alright for about 3 to 4 hours and then it starts playing up. I have searched google, youtube etc... still not finding a solution. I think best advice will be to back up all your documents on to an external drive and redo a clean installation of the OS? Im still yet to do that so I really dont know if it will fix it

+Samuel “bigswesil” Owusu I've been holding out from doing a complete clean reinstall. Pain in the ass to do. I did a restore of the OS going from the 10.11.1 Beta (when it started) to 10.11.2 and restored from Time Machine but that didn't fix it. I thought for sure it would. Submitted to Apple through their dev program but no response.

Tom Nash I have somehow managed to fix it but it's a really inconvenient way of doing it. I backed up all my documents onto an external drive, downloaded Yosemite from App store and reinstalled it using a memory stick. It's been 2 weeks now and I haven't experienced any app crashing or OS freezing.
