That actually would have made sense I'd Shaq said it. That's basically the psychology of payment plans except with the gas system there is no interest or fees.
My favorite part about the moon clip is that Shaq guesses it takes 10 hours but then says he was “26 hours” off after finding out it takes 3 days to get there. Does he think that there are only 12 hours in a day? Or does the moon disappear in the morning and they have to break for another 12?
Shaq is actually big brain. The less fuel you have in your tank, the less weight the vehicle has to pull around. The last half of a tank of gas, in theory, would get better fuel economy. Shaq is just playing 4d chess.

This is a legit financial trick ftr lol. It’s psychology not math. Consistently spending only the necessary amount to fill up eliminates wasteful spikes in your spending. It only sounds stupid. This has been a trick for spending less universally for pretty much forever.

It’s true, we just can’t see the moon burger place because it’s on the dark side of the moon, it was a great deal financially, buying land is cheaper on that side of the moon, but it’s terrible for marketing since no one can see it.
regarding the moon burger issue; if he can get out of the earth's atmosphere quickly, then he might save fuel. spacecrafts spend most of there fuel exiting the atmosphere and travel through low gravity space almost exclusively through drifting with some course correction. Atrioc will have to work on his mario kart drifting skills to travel that long distance, but regurading the fuel burning issue he might want to consider an alternative fuel source such as coffee to leave the atmosphere.
There’s something to what Shaq is saying. Obviously you spend $80 either way but there’s a psychological factor that he’s referencing. I’d feel much better spending only $20 at the gas station than almost $100, even if I have to stop more often
I feel like the variable most people aren't considering with this is how much you're driving. Shaq and these guys probably don't spend much time driving their own cars would be my guess although I'm not sure. But yeah for someone not using gas much. Stopping once a week to fill up $20 feels less taxing for sure then $80 all at once. But most people have to drive more and stopping to fill up $20 every 2 or 3 days might not make as much sense.
Yes. This is a known financial trick that results in you not wasting money unnecessarily filling up. The problem is that the math of it makes anyone trying to explain it look dumb.
no, at one point they say you have to just fill more and shaq says nobody fills that often. At best you could say its possible that if you had to keep filling up you would adjust your habits and use less gas, but I just dont think thats what he was saying. He also implied if a full tank is 80 then half a tank would be 20. Hes dumb, it is what it is lol.
I'm gonna explain how I interpreted Shaq's logic: From his perspective, the only difference is the size of the tank and no fuel efficiency difference. So he thinks the other person is intimidated by the big number and is trying to explain that it's like have two smaller tanks. He's still dumb because obviously the real problem is that they burn fuel much faster, but at least it isn't brain-breaking stupidity.

5:45 actually he is _kinda_ right. The Moon Rendezvous could fling your ship into interplanetary space (where you are orbiting the sun not the earth) and logically it would take 1 year (the orbital period of the earth) for the orbits to line up again. Only thing is that for the Apollo missions, the orbits were set up in such a way that they would always automatically return to earth without intervention (this is called a “free return”) So I guess nobody (shaq, the other dude, atrioc....) knows how orbits work
Shaq is actually a genius. The guy was complaining about paying 80 dollars for gas. Shaq gave him a solution where he pays 20 dollars 4 times as often. He never pays 80 dollars, he just pays 20 a bunch of times.
Shaq isn't stupid, he's trying to say that even though you spend the same amount of money overall, purchasing less gas more frequently is easier because it makes it feel like you're spending less money, as Kenny was complaining about having to spend 80 at the gas station for a full tank. It sounds like Shaq is stupid because he misspeaks and says that 20 will bring it back up to full, which he later corrects to 3/4. Free my homie Shaq from the airhead allegations 💀
The irony is, it takes more gas to start the car 4 times, then fill it up every time it goes to half. Whereas, if you wait until its near empty, you are only turning on and off the car once at the gas station. Also, if you leave your car on while getting gas, you need to tell your husband the check engine light is on.
What's funny is that I get gas like how Shaq is arguing for. When my tank is half, I put in $15. Doesn't fill it up, and I go to the gas station more often. But everytime it's half, I go.
Shaq gotta be trolling. He makes some godly investment decisions. He's a funny guy too so he's definitely pulling this guy's leg. This is some big brain stuff, fellas.
Well well well, Shaq is on to something really it depends on which times you fill up for gas, for example before and after rush hour gas is cheaper, and let´s say on tuesday a gallon cost 6$ on friday it could be 5$ of course it could be also 6,50$, but i think if you check outside the rush hour for cheap stations you could make it work. What i want to say is, the more you fill up for gas, the more chance you have to get it cheaper, But if you only fill up when your tank is empty ( every week or two ) you don´t have a choice you need gas no matter the price or you got a two ton paperweight on the side of the road.
Shaq is attacking the main point that $80 is a lot. The other guys is complaining about the size of the fuel tank when it has no relevance to its miles per gallon, therefore the big price tag for a full fuel tank doesn’t matter. He is saying, it seems like a lot but over a time scale, $20 a week, it’s not that bad. He is essentially thinking in dollars per distance whilst the others are just thinking of the price of a full fuel tank. Their argument has no time/distance scale, they “seem” (to Shaq) to not look at the efficiency of the car, rather the sum of money at the end with no travelling in mind. If the car could only hold $10 worth of fuel the other guy would be happy even though he’s getting the same miles to gallon. It has seemed to have evolved to something dumbed down over time but this is the gist of this first argument
Hello Atrioc, I have recently been watching your UA-cam videos. They are so funny! I love all the funny jokes like how you call your fingers "glizzies" because they are like hotdogs and how you dress the hitman up as the clown.
Filled up today and it was the first time it was under $50 for almost a full tank of gas. About a year ago that much cost me about $35. It's only because the place I work at has a nice perk of giving me 25 cents off per gallon. I swear to god every time I have needed to drive more on the regular the price has gone up.
This is actually a psychological trick that was popular in the 90s. It sounds stupid because people think their driving habits are consistent, but they aren’t. If you keep your car full, you will spend less on gas. When you fill up on empty you are splurging on a necessity. It’s a stupid tax for not keeping your spending habits orderly and consistent.
Inside the Nba on TNT is probobly my favorite show on tv period, its consistently funny, and chuck and shaq make a Great paring for some wild tomfoolery
in Shaq's defense, cars do run better when over half on gas. However I think cars are programmed to try and save gas when youre at less than half a tank of gas
So, what Shaq is saying has some logic behind it (besides psychological since smaller number better for brain) but from a different perspective and purpose. What is the rate at which you get paid? Once a month, a week, 2 weeks? Esentially you are managing out the spending money for that pay period to either be rolled over or pre-used. So, if you get paid $100 per week, and you need 100$ to fill up and use half in a week, would you keep the $100 the first week and spend the other $100 for gas next week or do 50/50 allowing for a bit more money management? You still end up with $100 in both situations, but it's based on what other spendings you might have for that week or pay period, sometimes you might need $86 so use the whole $100 and skip a spendings week, and sometimes you don't have spendings so you can do 50/50 and next week you have $150 of which you might need $120 and so on.
@Atrioc, Shaq's point is: If it's painful to spend $80, keep putting in $20 before it's low so you don't feel it. He isn't disputing it's the same money. He is removing the pain point of spending $80 in one go (which he questions if the $80 is the issue several times). It's the same as doing a weekly food shop Vs buying what you need each day. Same result, but one you have a negative feeling after spending a large amount. There is also some argument in, by not filling up the tank you may drive less as you know it will be low sooner. But he doesn't really mention this. Disappointed a marketing maestro didn't pick up on this phycology.
It was misunderstanding from teh front and Shaw used the wrong word in relation but corrected himself.. shaw intent was, if you don't liek spending 80 dolalrs. just keep putting 20 in it every time it reaches half... then your not spending 80 dollars. The guy replied, I would eventually spend the same ammount of money.... which would be 80's dollars and have ot go to teh gas station... 4 times as often.... its pretty funny, but maybe shaq knows somethign about the decay of fuel and filling up more often you gain more gas... hmmm
Shaq's numbers might be wrong, but his logic is right. Other dude never mentioned fuel consumption so we're basically only talking about tank size, if the average car costs $20 to fill and you have to fill it once a week, the other one costs $80 to fill initially but you can refill it once it gets to 3/4 once a week for $20, or for $80 once every 4 weeks. The overall expense is the same.
I think Shaq just needs to know that people let their tank get lower on gas to refuel because discounts are typically done by gallon and you get a better deal buying a larger quantity of gas at once. Because his math after the fact wasn't wrong.
They do recommend you not fill up your tank completely because you get better fuel economy when you’re not dragging the weight of all the fuel with you - so you get some savings that way.
shaq is right, give someone 20 dollars to distract them from you siphoning their gas

But if the prices go up it would be cheaper to fill it up all the way at a lower price (buying the dip)
It actually costs more as the weight of the fuel uses more fuel, going from empty to half would mean a slight saving
@@hemmoau the added weight of a few gallons of fuel has such a negligible impact on fuel use that it shouldn't even be considered in this equation.

There is also some argument in, by not filling up the tank you may drive less as you know it will be low sooner. But he doesn't really mention this.
Disappointed a marketing maestro didn't pick up on this phycology.
Nothing trips up Shaq, except mic equipment and Larry David
that's a certified brandom "coffee cow" "moon burguer" ewing classic
Technically when it comes to the bsfc of your engine, stopping less is better and uses less fuel
Inside the NBA is legit one of the best shows on television. No sports show can compare. Watch Chuck talk about girls from San Antonio.
4 times as often....
its pretty funny, but maybe shaq knows somethign about the decay of fuel and filling up more often you gain more gas... hmmm
Shaq almost kills big A with FACTS and LOGIC
Well, some cars burn more fuel w less in the tank. So sorta makes sense but that’s a stretch
Omg I’ve never seen atrioc laugh like that 😂😂
I think he means something along the lines of: if you pay 40 every week, you wont complain as much as 80 every 2 weeks
The UA-cam rewatch from twitch hits different
Alt title: laughing at shaq being wrong about basic knowledge
I think Shaq just needs to know that people let their tank get lower on gas to refuel because discounts are typically done by gallon and you get a better deal buying a larger quantity of gas at once. Because his math after the fact wasn't wrong.
Quacks edits hit different
This is like at least the tenth Always Sunny reference in the title I swear
They do recommend you not fill up your tank completely because you get better fuel economy when you’re not dragging the weight of all the fuel with you - so you get some savings that way.
Cant believe I went a full 10 minutes before I realized what was wrong with shaqs logic
