    I love the way you explain everything. You're the only voice teacher who tackles the psychological parts of singing as well as the technical to form a whole image. I cannot stress how much your advice helps me, but you seem to understand how it feels to be insecure with one's own image/voice on a subconscious level. That takes your advice to a whole new level, and I feel like I can benefit from this a lot. Thanks!

      Thank you so much Mike! This was just so spot on! Yes, I feel that in order to be an artist, we have to understand the entire human experience. Singing for me, isn't about projecting perfection, but embracing all those fears and jumping beyond myself. That whole concept is the reason why voice continues to inspire me. I'm so happy to hear that you are concentrating on this growth within yourself! Thank you so much for sharing this! Totally made my day!

    • @mikemuller2192
      @mikemuller2192 8 років тому +44

      About a year ago, I noticed that my voice wasn't really "me". I was singing well, but people who know how to listen really well and can critique voices would tell me I wasn't expressing myself fully. I never really understood how, because I thought I was singing with feeling and it sounded technically good to me. Then one time, I was thinking about how my voice feels trapped so I googled and found your video "Why does your singing voice feel trapped or stuck?". Everything just clicked at once, and I realized how I wasn't really expressing me. I was so insecure about criticism that I just started copying how others sing without making it my own. I took a while to get used to this new feeling of singing through myself, and I know I can do it effortlessly.
      That's so awesome that it made you feel better about what you do, because you need to know you practically gave someone a voice. As someone who sings, you should know that that's a very precious gift. So thanks again!

    Thank you so much, I've sang for more than 10 years now and I have never "felt" my headvoice when teachers were explaining it. My falsetto skill is way too good in making a full sound as well, but I have NEVER been able to connect it to my chest voice. Something always felt off. With your exercise I have for the FIRST TIME accessed my head voice and descended down to my chest voice while staying connected!! Thank you soooo much!!!! I feel like this will open up an entire new world of singing ability for me!

    Great teaching. Instead of showing off how good you are at head voice already, you understand that some folks came here to learn and haven't mastered it yet. I didn't even know it was head voice I was having problems with, but falsetto I thought. I decided to start practicing singing while I drive all around town, but realized my falsetto is weak and needs work. But probably what really needs work is head voice. Thanks Madeleine!

    Can you help me?
    whenever I put on my headphones I can sing beautifully and with confident but when I go to karaoke or put on instrumental I lost my confidence.Help please!

    • @MadeleineHarveyVoice
      @MadeleineHarveyVoice  8 років тому +149

      There can be a type of tone shock that happens when you are accustomed to hearing yourself through headphones versus amplified through a loud speaker at karaoke. As hard as it is to do, try to record yourself as often as you can. Watch it, or listen to playback and begin to get comfortable with the sound of your own voice. This will really help train your ear to any adjustments that need to be made on the fly. Choose songs that you feel really comfortable with and you know that you can perform them well. This will help anchor a positive experience to performance. When you get comfortable with the song that you're singing, you're totally in control and are free to tell the story. I did make a video about how to fix a nervous voice if you need extra help! ua-cam.com/video/hwFISkK-Cug/v-deo.html Break a leg!!

    • @loki884
      @loki884 6 років тому +27

      Never sing with headphones 😂 it’s the worst cuz with headphones on you can’t really hear your voice, the song you’re listening to the singers voice overshadows your voice which make you think you’re singing the right tone and singing flawless, you’re not singing differently at karaoke, you’re singing just the same but it’s what you hear, at karaoke with instrumental only you can hear your voice well

    Your videos are simply delightful. It takes me a few times listening to really get it but I listen to them often and catch on. I have had vocal training through the years and have not been using it and have gotten a little older! (65!) I totally believe the things you teach. Thank you for making these on so many subjects. Keep up the GREAT WORK!

      Just a thought. You could make a video on maintaining or getting back your voice as you age into your 60's or higher. I still have my voice, its just not as stable and flexible sounding. Or ...maybe you already have made this video!

    Thank you. Even your explanation helped me. I usually speak with very little head voice and ppl always say "huh?"
    I use your videos for my speaking voice. I'm not a singer
    You're an adorable lil creature btw

    Your pleasant attitude encourages me . Unlike some vocal coaches who feel frustrated when I grip. Thanks for helping me ✨💥💫🧚‍♀️💛🎶x

    Madeleine, you are The Singing Fairy God Sister! I Love to sing but I am not great.......I Still do it anyway. Lol.
    My Goal is to be able to Sing in Church and Not Scare, Small Children. Haha. You can use that, if you want. I Just Love your Excitement, as a vocal coach and your methods are transformational.
    I'm so glad that I found your channel!!!
    Thank you a thousand times for helping me achieve my goal! Even my own grown children, will soon be able to listen to me sing without the hard eyeroll.
    Blessings!!!

    Could you do a video in how to do vocal 'breaks' correctly, like sia and many other artists, like demi lavato do for style

    I am a MS choir teacher and I cannot wait to show some of these to my students! Do you have any advice, specifically, for young, changing voices? I think you are awesome.
