    As a person that really really loves Ukraine I can only hope that things will be always better for that country! Ukranians are intelligent, sensible and strong! I am confident that they will be able to figure out the right path to solve their conflicts ! What a pity that the countries that could give a help are not really helping! On tv they rarelly talk about Ukraine latelly... But my friends that live in Donbas wich feel themselves ukranian citizens are suffering a lot because of this situation: no whater everydays, no gas everydays, no heating everydays and , worst of all, NO JOB!!

    I'm half Ukrainian. My grandparents on my father's side grew up in the Ukraine but emigrated to the US in the early 1900's. My father was the first generation of his family to be born in the US. As you can imagine, I am very concerned about Russia invading the Ukraine. I have seen other videos on UA-cam where many Russian citizens believe that the Ukraine should be part of Russia. I have not yet researched why they believe this but I do intend to do so. If you can comment on this sometime in the future, I would surely find it very interesting. Thanks!

    So, so interesting a video Olia!! I have to point out something about your disappointment in the EU though - please remember that the EU is essentially only an economic coalition, and whilst there is co-operation on other levels, the EU can't do much apart from issue sanctions to countries that want to harm Ukraine, or any other contry for that matter, and yes I know sanctions are mostly useless! Anyway of course, the UK is leaving the EU! It is more, or should be more, the responsibility of NATO, to take severe action against the likes of Putin's regime, although again NATO has its' weaknesses. I think you will find that the UK considers Ukraine a great friend, and indeed there are many, many Ukrainians living here, especially in London. There are Ukrainian cultural centres in West London (I sent you some pictures once!) and there are Ukrainian families that settled here all over the UK after the second world war, along with many Polish people who still have many very successful communities here. There are regular 'each way' visits between Ukrainian and UK governmet officials, so I hope that the two countries will remain on good terms. As for America, I think the whole world is unsure about the Trump effect; we shall all have to wait and see!

    Hello and thank you from Serbia for what I find to be a very interesting video. I find everything here to be very much true and like how diplomatically said, putting it straight about Russian Gov/People/policy being different category. Of course you have Canada too which many people mentioned in comments. I'm also glad people accept situation of EU as when some countries like Germany are over 40% (some almost 100%) dependent on Russian gas, they want to stay on good terms. The EU of course is only an economic agreement too, so it's good that people understand. Although I'm from Serbia which is obviously more pro-Russian, but I personally am more pro Ukrainian and I have very close ties with Ukraine as my mom and sister lives in Kyiv, I can fairly well speak Ukrainian and I visit every summer. I'm very much liking of Ukraine and wish the best for them. Your videos are very interesting and I hope my English here is understandable.

(average, local citizens. not the governments) i really hate that your entire region seems to be under so much tension. if you remove governments and propaganda, i would imagine that many people around that area are really the same...in their hearts. i hope peace and civility between governments can be reached soon without violence, bloodshed or latent animosity. thank you for the video! it is always a great thing to share opinions like this with the world. we are all humans, when you remove everything else ;)

    As an American I appreciate hearing your perspective on recent events in Ukraine. I would like to make a couple of points about American policy. The first is that President Trump is very inexperienced politically, especially with regards to foreign policy. (Full disclosure: I don't like Trump and didn't vote for him.) He also lacks the patience to understand the difference between long term and short term interests. All of that is to say that it is to soon at this point to tell whether Trump's administration will result in a long term shift in America's foreign policy orientation after he has left office. The second point to remember is that Russia has nuclear weapons.

    • @kurtisokc
      @kurtisokc 7 років тому +3

      While it may seem frustrating I see Russian aggression being met with economic sanctions rather than a more aggressive response, the potential consequences of escalating a conflict with a nuclear power are sufficiently grave to warrant a very cautious response. Anyway, again thank you for sharing your perspective on these issues.

      Obama did nothing exept saying he is worried, he was more busy with giving black people equality( benefits), making gay mariages important issue and legalizing marihuana. He betrayed allies, made american relations with other countries very difficult and he annoyed many nations by telling them they should follow misunderstood tolerance. Trump already did nothing at in that point of viev he is much better.

      State Propaganda, nobody in Ukraine is promoting nationalism. People who overlived events on the Independence Square came back to Bandera and UPA, because they opposed to Russian army. Besides, nobody teaches us at school that Bandera was an idol.

      Actually I don't remember anything about Bandera from school. Everything what I remember - he was one of the leader of Ukrainian nationalists, the same like Melnyk and others. I think the image of Bandera now is promoting by Russia so much. They try to create a "hero", opposite to Putin in Russia. It's clearly that Poroshenko doesn't works for them, so they found Bandera.
      In reality not a lot of people really knew what exactly Bandera did in past. Just now, when Russians start to call us Banderivtsi, people start to read who actually was Bandera and what he did))
      You focused so much on political issues, instead of understand why it happened. My opinion: this situation with Poles was artificially created to make us enemies again.

    Poland is not a true friend of Ukraine. You are right that Poland merely treats Ukraine as a buffer zone between Poland and Russia; it is only to their benefit that Ukraine joins the European Union. Many Poles are still very sour over the fact that a huge chunk of what was once Poland became western Ukraine (cities such as Lviv / Lwów, Ivano-Frankivsk / Stanisławów etc.) even though these regions of what was once Poland were already heavily populated by ethnic Ukrainians.
    In my opinion, if anything, Lithuania is a friend of Ukraine because Lithuania was not just a puppet state (like Poland or Czechoslovakia was), but also part of the Soviet Union proper (Lithuanian SSR). Russia invaded Lithuania from 1991-1992; Lithuania does not border Ukraine and Ukraine is not a "buffer zone" for Lithuania yet Lithuanians are more than happy to support Ukraine because they know what it feels like to be invaded and threatened by Russia.

    • @Samchocolate11
      @Samchocolate11 7 років тому +3

      YummYakitori Good point, also Lithuania and Lithuanians know about personal responsibility, being independent and self reliant, instead of relying on Russia or the EU.
      Poland on the other hand loves to play the victim mentality milking the west/EU for help, money, mass migration without upholding western values and giving anything in return (very hypocritical people) so Ukraine shouldn't aspire to be like Poland. Ukraine should aspire to be independent and self sufficient !

      You're an idiot, and show your lack of intelligence. I've been to 25 countries, speak three languages and can find 95% of the countries of the world on a map. There are 325 million Americans. When you say all Americans are stupid, that only makes you look stupid.

    • @pookatim
      @pookatim 6 років тому +2

      You are absolutely correct. Most young Americans can not find the United States on a globe let alone Ukraine. The biggest problem is up until President Reagan won the cold war and brought down the Soviet Union, Ukraine and other Eastern European countries were part of it. Even if American kids saw an atlas, the Soviet Union dominated all of that land. I am an old man and I know a lot more than your average American about such things and I still have to reference a map to see where many Eastern European countries are when I hear them discussed. On the other hand, I know where all the Western European countries are. For many in the West, Ukraine didn't exist util after the Soviet collapse.

    • @pookatim
      @pookatim 6 років тому

      What kind of intelligence are you displaying when you take a statement about "most people" and apply it to a single person? In fact, if you are an American and have been to 25 other countries, you are one of the precious few who have. Most Americans don't even have a passport. That makes you and "outlier" and specifically excludes you from the premise of "most people in America" Most people in American have never been to another country.

    I've also noticed how people separate Russia and there leader, Putin. I know I've seen people separating Russians and Putin. But never the 3 category(Russians - Russia - Putin).
    What made me sad is when you mentioned how when Ukraine asked for help and no one helped but rather just gave morale support. That is the most upsetting thing to me. And counterproductive. Especially if you want Ukraine as a friend. There is so much good that can come if people in the west werent as spineless and actually helped Ukraine when asked. Thanks for sharing this video, really helpful.
    For me, people over here have a very small general idea of Ukraine. The only time people knew about Ukraine was due to the Crimean situation. Some people here likes Russia, some dislike Russia. I've remembered someone mentioned Russia and America are relatively similar. It's very mixed over here in America. However, a lot of people in France (Where I am also from) are sympathetic to Ukraine.

    While I do think the USA should have come to your defense as a matter of principle, I think you, and according to you - Ukrainians in general, have a misunderstanding of the terms of the Budapest Memorandum and the obligations of it's signatories. If you would do an internet search "Full text of Budapest Memorandum" (it is only a 5 minute read) I think you will find that the USA fulfilled/fulfills it's obligations. Again, you and I would want the USA to defend in this situation, but to say there was an obligation based on an agreement is not accurate from my reading of the document.

    Privet Olga and a very interesting video and well put together and lots of inter- related topics covered. Speaking from the UK perspective I was very displeased with our government and indeed the rest of Europe's response to the annexing of Crimea from Ukrainian territory and the sanctions put in place really only served to heighten prices from the poorer classes in Russia and were not hurting Putin and this impotence from our and the rest of the governments who just sat and watched on TV frustrated me as I am a frequent visitor to Ukraine and have deep affection for the country and watching the scenes from the eastern side of the country to Maidan in Kiev where distressing. The only theory I can offer as to why USA and the UK did not do anything militarily is that for once they have a real battle unlike the countries / regimes they have picked on / carefully selected in the past 20 years . They are far inferior and weaker opponents than Russia would be from a political and militarily standpoint and their courage is pitiful. Keep making these videos as I enjoy your channel immensely : )

Like Goldeneye for example, based in Russia but will make people think they know what Eastern Europe is like... which is a movie based on the 90's. But our people are weird like that, we use hollywood movies to base our reality on many things. I think with younger educated people they see Ukraine as a place that is changing very fast and stuck between Europe and Russia. A lot of tech entrepreneurs love Ukraine because they can have their businesses online making US dollars but then live in Ukraine spending Ukrainian hryvnia so they can buy more and save more money.

    Having a serious talk aboot this, and more; is necessary and productive so long as all involved are serious and can learn in sadly, relativity. We will all have to have big talks in our lives.

    South Ossetia and Abkhazia are the two territories that Georgia and Russia are fighting over, causing the former to severe diplomatic ties with the latter. Consequence: Georgian wine is banned in Russia. Seems petty, but ironically, Georgian cuisine is popular in Russia, but they cannot have the "authentic Georgian dining experience" because the wine is banned-but this is only the tip of the iceberg.

    I am very much for Ukraine’s success. I have visited Ukraine four times. I study the Ukrainian language. I am very sorry that Vice President Biden, and now President Biden has been so foolish in his dealings with Ukraine. There are so many genuine, and smart, and talented people in Ukraine! I hope a new world view through communication, can bring peaceful solutions to all mankind.
