Then the west HELPED Stalin against the nazi attack, the ONLY time russia was really attacked with a genocide wish and for its resources. For Conor's education - it was when the USSR stole North Bucovina and Bessarabia from Romania that Romania decided to join the Nazi cause. It might be that Antonescu was predisposed to join the Nazi's because he himself was (as far as I know) ultra-right-wing, and was able to accept the Legionnaires into the government (only to eject them a couple months later when they tried to overthrow the government). Another aspect is that Romanians have been fighting for survival against Slavs for hundreds of years.

The successor to the Polish Home army continued on resistance to Soviet oppression until the early 1960's. In post war Soviet films they are the bad guys - the bandits. But Andrzej Wajda's early films give an alternate view, particularly the classic Ashes and Diamonds. Some of the Ukrainian films give an inkling of the complexities of a country in effectively a civil war among nationalists, Soviets and Romanians. I doubt many countries have historically unwilling suffered so much at the hands of others than Ukraine and Poland. Until you have visited these countries you cannot really appreciate the true meaning of horror.

You touched on the issue of whether Russia is committing Genocide in Ukraine CURRENTLY. I have read the UN Convention on Genocide carefully, and have compared it to Russia's actions. The Convention does not focus solely on deaths, but for example creating conditions where so horrid for a population that they flee, or the act of taking children from their native population and giving them for adoption into a host population. Both are ways to eradicate a culture without taking the step of large-scale murder.
I would like to hear your take - as a lawyer who formerly worked in International Relations - on what I've just said.
And, yes, I 100% agree with you having carefully read Timofey Sergeytsev's article in Ria Novosti, that in the Russian Elite there is a call for mass scale killing and/or reeducation of Ukrainians meant to eradicate the Ukraine government/culture/language/etc, and having read carefully the Wikipedia article on Russification in Ukraine, I know that this has been a project of Russian Empire / USSR / Russian Federation for 300+ years.
When I read up on Ukrainian Nationalism in the Wikipedia - I came away not knowing about Bandera's ideology, but knowing clearly that he stood for the principle of Ukraine being ruled by Ukrainians. The red/black flag coupled with the "Blood and Soil" phrase seems to have a different meaning from the similar Nazi phrase.
Who are the Fascists? The ones who are effectively fighting to protect their government and cultural identity from aggressors? Or the ones who want to destroy another culture, believing that other culture is less-than? I think it's the latter.

Russians do their usual plan of acting all confused and innocent as if they have no idea why every single nation around Russia hates them and many despise Russia for the vast amounts of death and destruction they caused. After "liberating" half of Europe from German control Russia just replaced one type of dictatorship with another in many ways worse. The Germans system never put the entire planet at imminent risk of being murdered in nuclear war. Soviet Russia was so evil they simply had to develop nuclear weapons which they knew was a risk to all humanity, even now Russia is busy developing more nuclear weapons that could be used even though there is no situation where launching nuclear weapons is better than not using them.Even if Russia is attacked the better option for them and the world is to not launch their nuclear weapons, so there is no point in Russia having them. Its time all those Russian nukes were removed now that Russia has demonstrated they dont have the intelligence to have a single nuke, never mind thousands of them. The entire world would be so much better off not being threatened with total death and destruction twice a week by Russia.
I think its time for the Russian empire to be broken up into around 23 new nations so that the those held under the dictatorship of Moscow can at last be the masters of their own destiny and vote for a government thats not thousands of miles away. There are nothing but advantages to breaking up this evil Russian dictatorship, its better for the planet and the people under the Russian empire, the quicker the break up of Russia the better for everyone.

They found out about my great great grandfather’s wine cellar and they stormed in there and drank nearly all the wine from their dirty stinky boots. That’s right, they took their boots off and used them as cups. My great great grandfather also said most of them were wearing clocks around their necks for some odd reason.
Now my great great grandmother from my grandmother’s side of the family owned a small pub during WWII and she said the Russian troops drank at her pub until they were past out drunk, and surprisingly they even paid for the drinks. She is a girl who doesn't feel any remorse and never show any empathy with what is happening in Ukraine, and someone who will feel very comfortable talking about the last fashion trend in Paris or London in the middle of a funeral without any problem :-( Thank you very much for your work.

      I am mixed about Eli..
I had been watching her travel videos around Russia before the invasion of Ukraine.
She makes some very good ones.
I didn't think that she was political.
Most people have a pride in their country.. maybe take for granted what they are taught about their country's history etc without putting thought into it.
She did interview a horror of a foreigner in Russia who was stomach churching in his attitude to Ukraine and his support for it's destruction by Putin.
She let him speak but later did a joint video with another Russian vlogger who has since left the country and they discussed that interview because she got a lot of hate comments and accused of bring financed by the government or tourist board and a supporter of the war.
She described how she has always been totally self made instead and self supporting.
I keep in mind when assessing Russians that many are non political, don't get involved, as most people don't in other countries, and if they do they risk fines, loss of jobs or possible imprisonment.
How many Russians, not exposed by their job on social media, have just continued doing their job, living their lives, and if they are against the invasion of Ukraine don't say it for those reasons but are not cancelled for it because they are not online figures?
There seems a huge divorce in Russia between the political gangster rulers and elites and the ordinary civil society. People seem to just get on with their lives and avoid what the government may or may not be doing and public debate cannot happen.
Is Eli just doing that? Like probably most Russians?
Just continuing with her video job as always?
Is she guilty for not becoming a political opposition vlogger instead?
      I don't know the answer.
Am I to judge her on that?
It's often easy for people in safe places, not directly affected by what is going on in another country to judge others.. others who may have to tread a fine line we don't fully know about.. between family, job, public and private survival requirements... Maybe not possible to talk about certain matters without falling out with family.. or even having to leave your country possibly never able to return.. as we know many Russians have been forced to do losing everything..
How many in Europe or North America would be willing to do that?
I don't know what Eli's views truly are on the invasion of Ukraine and I don't feel I can make a judgement of her apparent apolitical stance, or silence on political matters in Russia.. I'm not the one who would be putting my livelihood at risk - or possibly rejection by family if they are brainwashed by propaganda - by making an anti government statement if those are my feelings.
In comparison I know people not under the dangers of speaking out in the West and who could inform themselves but who have been brainwashed by Ritter and Redacted into believing the Putin propaganda about Ukraine.. which shocks and appals me..
      Who is more guilty eh?

Hi Conor. I'm also watching Russian bloggers living in Spanish speaking countries and all of a sudden, they seem to have been activated as Russian propagandists.
They can be split into 2 categories: the ones that are directly supporting the Russian politics (usually they made videos regarding the 9th of may filled with patriotism) and others that are ambiguous and don't adopt a clear tone.
For day-to-day news from Russia I watch the subtitled videos of Maxim Katz - he has a very clear position. I also watch the videos of Ilya Varlamov: he's a bit nostalgic for the Soviet Union, mocks the current politics and realities of Russia and criticizes (although on a more subtle tone) Putin's war.

Russia did not win the war by itself. Russia likes to ignore the fact that the Western Allies had to commit huge naval and air resources to keep supply routes open, keep Japan off Russia's back and deny Germany important metals, oil and access to Russia''s back door. The strategic air war gave Germany no other choice than to put most of it''s resources into air defence, keeping a vast amount of materiel away from the Russian front. Russia relied on US vehicles for transport and the aircraft they received could have been enough to tip the scales. Stalin was so concerned about the narrative that he had the labels changed on American rations. Basically, Russia only had to operate in one theatre thanks to the Western Allies.

That no one since WW2 has actually invaded Russian soil, even then when YOU THOUGHT that included countries that have since decided, since the WALL fell, they wanted NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU. That they were sovereign countries. Yet, you have repeatedly attacked them. And the West has, stupidly chosen to look the other way. @@JohnBuck-rc5te I'd like to explain something, since you seem a fair man, and receptive. No one except for Napolean and Hitler, has ever been stupid enough to think invading Russia was a good idea. And they lost. Badly.
And inspite of the paranoia carefully nutured by all you past leaders, to unify Russian people against a common enemy, to take their mind off their REAL problems....
...There is NO ONE in the West who spends any time plotting to invade your. country. It is not even remotely a "thing", much less part of our culture. I would have noticed.
The two World Wars were ghastly for everyone. Europe and America were determined that the human race would, FINALLY, never make that mistake agiain. Nuclear War was unthinkable, to the sane.
We would learn, also finally, to play nicely with others. As well as insure the safety of those now civilized enough to agree to this. Nice often comes off as weak, to a would be aggressor. The EU and NATO agreements, as well as others across the World, would be mostly ALL ABOUT THAT.
Unfortunately Russian leaders took exception to that. Communism they decided, would consume the World. So there was STILL someone who would destroy our way of life. I don't mean perfect. We are hardly that. But we try.
The Cold War years were terrifying. The posibility of Nuclear War should terrify anyone.
And if you look at a map of the time, you'll see, In sheer land mass alone, Russian influence, Communism, China included, seemed to be winning. In Asia, Africa, and South America. Our President Kennedy would see Russian Nukes in Cuba, right on our doorstep. Much smaller proxy Wars would be fought because of it. We won in South Korea. We lost in Vietnam.
It was 20 yrs between WW1and WW2. IT would be 40 yrs till 1990. And it was an uneasy peace, held together mostly with glue. We ALL knew that.
So it was with great relief in the West, when the WALL fell. Frankly, we were as startled as you. But you might listen to a Rock song at that time, that sums up our hopes for Russia, and Russians. It's"Winds of Change". It's poignant and sweet.
America has an extroidinary habit of extending a hand to former enemies, fairly quickly. A sort of all's forgiven lets move forward. Possibly because we are such a polyglot of nationalities. Or maybe because it is most practical.Japanese and Germans would be far better off, inspite of actually LOSING.. They would have a new very beneficial, direction. And they would run with it.
This would be Russia, we thought.
Putin would play Mr Nice Guy, to the World. Russia was in tatters, with hopes but no real direction, or idea how to get there.
Putin saw Russia seriously needed both Foreign investment, and foreign expertise. Unlike Germany or Japan, capitalism was not only an alien concept, but illegal. You were clueless.
We gave you McDonald's. They never expected a profit. They were too far from their wholesale supply line. It was illegal to take rubles out of Russia, anyway.
But McDonald's said, Hi. We are America. We are not scary. We are fun. We are only hamburger. You'll like us.
      And you did.
McDonald's would be followed by others, and an introduction to the wonders of capitalism. Goods unheard of before A better, more comfortable life.
There would be, we thought, a real possibility of World Peace. Of leaders with shared goals and values. Of mutual commerce that would bind us together.
But Putin would play MR NICE GUY, until he didn't. Moldova and Georgia weren't NATO members. There was little we could do. But that would be a dress rehearsal for the invasion of Ukraine.
But, unlike the other two, Ukraine was in a position to fight back, themselves. "I don't need a ride out," Zalenski said. "I need ammunition."
Which is where we are now.

Important to note that the Soviets (led by a Georgian) only did a deal with Germany after their offer of a common front against Germany was rejected.
In 1938 (despite France and Britain backing down at Munich) the Soviets continued to offer military assistance to Czechoslovakia including 700 fighter aircraft and parachute regiments (if requested). This they hoped would force Germany to back down. Germany was weaker in 1938 than a year later. (Partly because they took all the Czechoslovakian military equipment)
Despite interest from the Czechoslovakian military the civilian government refused the Soviet offer, and simultaneously Poland attacked Czechoslovakia along with Germany. (Poland took 3 regions and already occupied the southern 3rd of Lithuania inc. Vilnius)
Realising they couldn’t trust Poland or the West the Soviets did a deal with Germany.

I dont begrudge your latest content creation tactic, i.e dropping names of popular youtubers in the title to get clicks. You're a content creator, you have to try stay relevant somehow, I get it. However, I think you're doing a very weak and disingenuous job to be brutally honest. You are essentially gas lighting these young youtubers because they are Russian while showing no understanding of their content over a period of years and the current situation they find themselves in.
I follow both Roman and Eli as well as several other Russian youtubers going back years. FYI there's another young Russian youtuber called Natasha's Adventures who has probably portrayed a braver more anti war outlook in her videos if that's what you're after. Ironically the you tuber you compared Roman against actually did leave Russia and did heavily redact comments and did boot people from his live chats for using the "w" word and not calling it a "special military operation". He also done quiet a lot of "moaning about the price of stuff after sanctions" videos. I understand completely why he done it, he needs to create content to earn money and also protect himself but you calling out Roman while pointing out this other guy as a better example just shows how little research you yourself done before putting your own video out. It reflects bad on your own credibility.
I also found comparing your own potential business move into Russia before the war to Romans situation completely outrageous. You are not making the same "hard choices". He is Russian, he lived there, has family there and his sole means of making a living is youtube content. Lets just say he has a lot more skin in the game than you and has a lot more to lose. It's not like he can just pack up and go to Galway when the going gets tough. Maybe you should head over to Russia and make anti war content from a rented apartment in a Russian city?
I really think you should stick to criticizing the likes of Gonzalo Lira and stop picking on young genuine Russians with mostly western outlooks who are doing their best to make a living under really difficult circumstances. At the very least, if you're going to do a hit piece on these guys at least watch all their content instead of cherry picking a few seconds of footage to justify putting their names in the title of your own video. Their content is a hell of a lot better and more valuable socially than cringey dating advice videos IMO.
As a fellow Irishman I want to see you do well but videos like this make it hard for me to support you. I mean you probably could have made the same video and raised the same points without making it a hit piece on Eli but you went for the click bait option at her expense for your own benefit.

I stumbled on one of her videos -- one was more than enough -- where she was yammering on about volunteering to help refugees from Donetsk and Lugansk. Not once did she mention why those people were refugees: It's a footnote to the current war, but a day or two before the Russian invasion, those people were rousted from their homes and told to hit the streets and head east, because (according to the Kremlin) an invasion *from* Ukraine was imminent.
It was a pure propaganda stunt, ginned up to manufacture a cassus belli. Arguably those refugees (nearly all pensioners, women, children) were the very first people to be displaced by Putin's little adventure -- in the name of "protecting" them, naturally.
And darling little Eli mentioned this not at all. It was enough to convince me that she's got no integrity, so why bother watching? Anyway I'm glad to see her dishonesty and complicity skewered in this video.

He was in the US Army Air Corp which became the US Air Force. So many people, including you apparently, want to hold other people responsible for the actions of their ancestors. You don't seem to realize we are all products of the time and place that we exist. No one in the US brings up or cares which side of the US Civil War their ancestors fought on. If this is all you got on Eli, you ain't got nothing. The USSR lost more soldiers in WW2 than any of the Western countries. Ireland was a neutral country.

It caught my attention when I read your line criticising him of apparently wanting to hold other people responsible for the actions of their ancestors. Nowhere in this video is that even suggested. I found it interesting because it is an often used line in discussions of slavery and White privilege in america, and I am surprised that it is being applied in this context, I am confident you are familiar with it, and have had many times argued it in that exact context. Merely for discussing the ancestors negatively, there is an immediate response that it is not allowed, that it is somehow blaming the current generation. Some states are passing legislation that forbid the discussion of history in a particular way, so that it doesn't make the descendants feel guilt, and are even revising the way it is presented. This movement of the US conservative party reminded me of the conservative party in Japan revising the history of the imperial army, so that the Japanese only feel pride for being Japanese, resulting in the censoring of high school textbooks of the atrocities committed by Japan. Anyhow, I thought it bizarre that this exact line has spilled over here. He was criticising her for how she interprets and spreads information about the past, much like some americans do, for example those who subscribe to the lost cause of the confederacy. This criticism is not an attempt to make them feel guilty for what the ancestors did, but rather wanting them to speak honestly about the past, even if it means that you don't get to feel pride over it, but it is not a desire to hold other people responsible.

Mexican soldiers invaded Texas and attacked a Cavalry Regiment that was fortifying defenses due to Mexican statements. the Mexican War of 1848 was a decisive American Victory. I was thinking if you were to tell me about the status of both Russia and Ukraine leading up to maidan and then told me what the future was going hold I would have said "what! NO absolutely DONOT do that Russia" I mean swiping Crimea and pumping guns into the donbas is just about the worst possible strategy of every one that's available. How short sighted can you be. Even if you end up with both territories the damage you will have done to the Russian brand. My god. If UKRAINE is like a brother, and they are currently suffering from a crisis the LAST thing you should do is sneak in there and start fucking things up. Itt.might makeup feel good in the moment but littery everyone's gonna see what u did and hate you. Maybe you should use your considerable military and resources help stabilize Ukraine. There are so many areas where you can help UKRAINE. They discovered oil and gas they need help monetizing it. They have no standing army, you should be able to help them build one, they want to hold yanikovich responsible to show would be corrupt politicians that it won't be tolerated anymore you could turn him over to the Ukraine as a Goodwill gesture. You could tell Ukraine they don't have to close between the west and Russian economic plans. Let's deevise a brand new plan that involves Russia, Ukraine and the west. It will be custom Taylor'ed to suit the needs of all parties and most importantly the Ukrainian position. They could have worked out a deal where the people of the donbas are able to have protections outside of the normal ukranian constitution and in exchange Russia agrees to rehonor their commitment to respect ukranian borders. I mean once again I would be absolutely disgusted I'm my leaders if I was Russia. The are the biggest country in the world., Right next to Ukraine, with historical ties. The Charge of the Light Brigade
    BY ALFRED, LORD TENNYSON
Half a league, half a league,
    Half a league onward,
All in the valley of Death
    Rode the six hundred.
    “Forward, the Light Brigade!
Charge for the guns!” he said.
    Into the valley of Death
    Rode the six hundred.
    II
    “Forward, the Light Brigade!”
    Was there a man dismayed?
    Not though the soldier knew
    Someone had blundered.
    Theirs not to make reply,
    Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die.
    Into the valley of Death
    Rode the six hundred.
    III
    Cannon to right of them,
    Cannon to left of them,
    Cannon in front of them
    Volleyed and thundered;
Stormed at with shot and shell,
    Boldly they rode and well,
    Into the jaws of Death,
    Into the mouth of hell
    Rode the six hundred.
    IV
    Flashed all their sabres bare,
Flashed as they turned in air
    Sabring the gunners there,
    Charging an army, while
    All the world wondered.
    Plunged in the battery-smoke
    Right through the line they broke;
    Cossack and Russian
    Reeled from the sabre stroke
    Shattered and sundered.
Then they rode back, but not
    Not the six hundred.
    V
    Cannon to right of them,
    Cannon to left of them,
    Cannon behind them
    Volleyed and thundered;
Stormed at with shot and shell,
    While horse and hero fell.
They that had fought so well
Came through the jaws of Death,
Back from the mouth of hell,
All that was left of them,
    Left of six hundred.
    VI
    When can their glory fade?
O the wild charge they made!
    All the world wondered.
    Honour the charge they made!
    Honour the Light Brigade,
    Noble six hundred!

The non-agression pact between nazi Germany and the USSR is the consequence of the Munich agreements between nazi Germany, France and the UK. Stalin offered 100.000 troops to curtail Hitler's expansion but the western powers expected nazi Germany to invade the USSR, the Lebensraum and General Plan Ost was well known to them. Unfortunately, she has skewed opinions or is promoting them under duress [did the FSB come knocking on her father's door and threaten her family?].She revealed in one of her early videos that she was once was planning a career as a military translator, but she was told that if she did so that she would be given access to classified information and not allowed to leave Russia. Her videos seem staged and coordinated in a way that indicates she is probably being assisted in making them [by the Russian government?]. However, another Russian youtuber, Dari Step, did a video of the Chechen Republic at the same time. If you compare the two videos it becomes obvious that Eli did not go alone and was accompanied by Dari and the "random" " American". Then ,in Eli's video, two Chechen women who do not show their faces act as a guide to Eli. Were they afraid of reprisals for guiding a Russian youtuber? Are they even Chechen women? We see them at a distance with their backs turned to the camera. I hope Eli and her family and friends are safe, but there is something really weird going on here. Also, the Putin -puppet regime that controls Chechnya has a really, really bad human rights record. However, US and Canada are supposedly putting out "propaganda" on their official websites. @@tubalcain1039I know Dari Step's channel and it puzzled me when I saw Dari + Eli together in chechenia, doing two different verison of the same tour. About Eli: you don't have to be worried about her, she hasn't made clear her political stances and of course languages and travels in Russia or abroad are not political matter and she has a point on this BUT it is also clear from conor's exposed material about eli's speznatz video and the odd two interviews with RT "journalist" Tim Kirby and later on her confidences on telegram where she doesn't understand why russians and foreigners are ashamed by kremlin's war on Ukraine and why do they move in Georgia, etc. so she positevely has political opinion and she is proud of her grandfather's military career (he basically staitoned in Ukraine preventing revolt for independence) so she has a pro-kremlin background and while she's not a putin's hooligan she discreetly approve the SO. The point is: I think we all enjoyed videos form eli and other russian youtubers because we wanted to know more about the big country but we like to see an honest chronicle so eli's videos seem too much sugar coating and staged and she has done so much travels in very remote region of russia so I think, as in every semi dictatorship, someone proposed eli and dari and others to join a program of promoting Russia's image and tourism which is not bad but here in the west a gov/regional sponsorship is ALWAYS made clear in the credits, so you are aware it is presented in a favourable view. It is deceiving luring people in some regions that are dangerous. Of course chechenia is not dangerous if someone invite you and give you drivers, two female guides, a marriage event, but if USA , Italy foreign departments issued warnings who do you trust must? It is not western prop, there are surely risks UNLESS you are invited and protected by the chechen autorities. Dari did the xerox copies of eli's videos (komi rep, chechenia, russian artic, etc.) but at some point dari "step" out of russia in istanbul , not clearly if to avoid santions or just in disagree about the war. So It is quite difficult to understand who trust. in an hyperbole, dari could act as a spy, or just be western paranoia because maybe she agreed to take money promoting russia and after cutting bridges when the regime showed its ugly face. I'm quite puzzled and to me only 1420, niki proshin and maybe natasha seems very trustful unless discovering some news. Anyway, in dictatorship people could always have murky relationship with autorities..

Eli did go overseas for part of her education. But the vast majority of her education was in Russia under the force of lies taught in the Russian schools. That happened when she was in a critical time of life for her. This was her teenage years. During this time, when you are taught the lies as she was, overcoming them requires a mind that is measured in 1 of hundreds of millions. Eli has a good mind. Sadly the effects of her education are clear in her VLOG. But she is not like Martin Luther King Jr. She is not destined to change the world for good. So much of the worlds evil stems from wrong thinking based on lies. The exact same problem exists in Western education. Should I write the books needed to expose the lies in Russia and the West? Why? No one would read them. I chose to think clearly about all people on both sides of the war. In this fundamental, we are all the same. We all suffer the same ills. I offer to all the gift of thinking clearly. "Think what is right and good." Be generous in the way you think of the evil in this world. We have no power against this war or the evil fundamentals that are it's source until we change our thinking first. Be kind and generous to those in the West. Be kind and generous to Eli. Karma comes back and the world is blessed. I invite all to join me - think clearly and generously.

There was a related documentary he created, Selfie Soldiers, that documented postings on VK (Russia's equivalent to Facebook) by Russian soldiers, traced some of them into their involvement with the Battle of Debaltseva in 2015, and then he flew to far East Russia to a Tuvan city to try and talk with one of those soldiers.

I've watched her channel for quite sometime, way back before the current war. She has and continues to show life within Russia and her travels to other countries too. Since the start of this war she's referenced it several times, as best she could under the current limitations of doing so within Russia. Not once has she EVER promoted, agreed, nor condoned Putin/Russia's actions. She even interviewed a pro-Putin American whack-a-doo living in Russia. Her facial expressions alone when he spoke let you know exactly where her heart is.
She has a lot to lose if she escapes Russia- family and finances. My sister-in-law is from St. Pete now living in the US. She got out several years ago but is now cutoff from her family and finances she left behind because of Putin's war. Not all Russians are bad my friend.
It appears you've attempted to get views by disparaging someone else with a larger and more popular viewer base. I'll cover your same treatment of NFKRZ on that video's comments.
If you want to berate Russian vloggers that are pro-Putin, go take a whack at Sergey Baklykov and his channel Baklykov. Live ua-cam.com/video/QbFM7Y1B6Cg/v-deo.html This guy originally had some pretty decent content walking the streets of St. Pete showing Russian life. I had to unsubscribe from him when he became an arrogant, condescending, sarcastic, douchebag with his attempts at comedy in multiple videos mocking his unaffected lifestyle under sanctions. He's a full on "whatabouter" whenever he's questioned about the invasion of Ukraine. Pro-Putin POS that deserves your negative review.
Leave Eli and NFKRZ be, they are a few of the good ones. Just watch ALL their videos in their ENTIRETY not just snippets you can mold to meet your agenda that all Russians suck and are propagandists.

I chose their videos because they are Russians who don’t appear to support the war but were not willing to take risks to oppose it and both whined on UA-cam as if they were ‘victims’ … the only way ultimately to have peace is if there is a change of system in Russia otherwise Russia will continue to attack its neighbors when they disagree with them.
As for other ‘worse’ Russian UA-camrs, sure I could react to all of them but what’s the point if they openly support the war? 🤷🏼

I don't know whether you know it or no, I won't be surprised if you familiar with it, but this concept of the "Great Patriotic War" was made up in 1965, in twenty years time after World War II ended. That year, it was the first time when Victory Day (it was intentionally "postponed" from 8th of May to 9th) was widely celebrated in Soviet Union. Before this, there weren't even an attempts to celebrate it, because a lot of survivor veterans were still relatively young and perfectly remembered all the horrors of this war. That there wasn't a lot to be proud, it was just a long sequence of mass murders, rapings, lootings and other war crimes from both sides. They knew that actually war isn't only about heroism, honour, nobility and bravery; it's mostly a blood, dirt, fear, intestines sticking out of stomach, torn up bodies, cut off legs, hands and heads. But new generation was growing up, and Communist party decided to create such a holiday for them "to get them remembered a great feat of Soviet people". For this purpose, they dropped off only a part of world war since 22nd of June 1941 when Germany invaded USSR, and called it a "Great Patriotic War". Soviets skipped an "awkward' part of it when they divided seized territories of Eastern and Central Europe with Germany: they've already basically participated in the war not only by seizing but also by murdering (Katyn' massacre) and deporting many thousands of Poles, Ukrainians, people from the Baltic states (mostly Latvians) to Siberia and sending them to Gulag. They deliberately diminished a role of American lend lease to create a facade of "decisive contribution by USSR in defeating a Nazism" by writing in a history books that an overall share of lend lease was only 4% while actually it was just huge. Soviet Union simply couldn't have resist without lend lease. And gradually a Victory Day became the main holiday in Soviet Union, probably, right after New Year. And there was an interesting tendency observed in Soviet Union and Russia: the less achievements they had, the bigger and pompous this "holiday" became, with all these foolish parades, they tried to create an impression for their citizens and for all the world that USSR was almost the only one who defeated Nazis. Especially in the latest years of Putin it acquired blatantly ugly forms with fake veterans and the same fake "grandfathers on sticks" (with photos of them) in the hands of "immortal Regiment" procession participants (and most of them didn't even knew the names of their "grandfathers" who were fighting in this war). So, the last 5-6 years conscious people call it a "победобесие" ("victory-madness"). But most of Russian people, and this Eli among them, take this "victory-madness" for granted, not even thinking that maybe it's worth to celebrate it in some other way. Just as a Memorial Day, without these noisy processions.
