Nailed it. Your ideas are basically exactly the same as mine. Use the newer cars as the primary focus for Sport Mode and all the other serious racing, and classic cars for more casual events and bringing in fans of historic motorsport. And frankly the primary way this new system could work is if Polyphony adds more cars to said classes to emphasis the manufacturer loyalty. Gr.3 is already basically filled out of car brands for newer vehicles, I think there should be more focus on adding the older variants as well such as the Corvette C5R, Viper GTS-R, 996 RSR, 575 GTC, Diablo GT1, Even obscure ones like the Marcos LM600.

it’s funny because they did a BoP update for Gr.1 which bogged all the cars down even more, the Gr.2 BoP update was ok but nothing major to change the meta, the Gr.3 was good except for the wet conditions and Gr.4 wasn’t needed imo.
they treat the classes like this: Gr.3: the son. Gr.4: the daughter. Gr.2: the weird nephew. Gr.1: the forgotten stepchild.
they brag about how many Gr.3 cars they have yet all the outdated ones (in the game, not IRL) are never used because of BoP. they want you to use the newer cars and the “updated ones.” don’t know what’s updated about a 2015 McLaren 650s GT3 or the 2013 Ferrari 458. i’m gonna bounce off what you said
    Gr.1 Hybrid/LMP
    Gr.1 VGT
    Gr.1 C
    Gr.2 Modern
    Gr.2 Retro
    Gr.3 Modern

Great video! I would have (as a starting point)…
    Gr1N: non-hybrid
    Gr1H: hybrid
    Gr1C: older / pre-2000
    Gr2GT: GT500 and DTM
    Gr2LM: GT1 and Le Mans
    Gr3M: Modern / post-2010 GT3/Gr3
    Gr3C: pre-2010 GT3/Gr3
    Gr4M: modern / post-2010 GT4/Gr4
    Gr4C: pre-2010 GT4/Gr4
    GrA: rally cars under 400bhp
    GrB: rally cars over 400bhp
GrH1-3: historic racing cars, sub categories 1-3 for power-to-weight ratio
GrX1-5: race cars that don’t easily slot into any of the above categories, sub categories 1-5 for power-to-weight ratio

I think this is ok. But using this idea has it's flaws. GR.1N would consist of 2 cars, gr.4C would have 1, and for Gr.H1-3 could be a problem if you're including the Chevrolet Stingray. Sorry 😅 just trying to help.

@@YummyYapper-c8v to be honest I actually think Gr4 is fine for the moment as it is now... it's by far the least broken class haha. Ah there are a few that would slot into Gr1N - got the Peugeot LMP, Audi R18 '11, Alpine, SRT, and I think Bugatti VGT. But at the end of the day, there's a reason I'm not a game designer, all I know for certain is that the Silhouette Skyline needs to be pulled from Gr3, it's wasted there haha

It's interesting you mentioned how in depth the pp system used to be but if I recall polyphony got rid of that in GT7 because of the tomahawk glitch

    • @kylemartin1166
      @kylemartin1166 2 місяці тому

I was just thinking the same thing.
Gt7's pp system WAS like that for quite a while before they removed it not long after the patch that added the the 600pp race on the tokyo expressway.
The tuning page even used to update relative to what you changed in the setup (i.e. if you changed the ridehight and spring rate, it would update to show you theoretical lateral gs of grip the car would produce) and now it doesn't even do that much.

This what I want to see implemented for years in gt7 and older games.
Also add a class for classic endurance racers like for instance the ferrari 330p4, ford gt40, porsche 917, alpine a220 and some other racecars from this era

  • @heyes55

In my opinion, there are some things that can be done with the classes/groups:
    1. Scrap them altogether and keep the PP, like the PS3 era.
    2. Scrap the numbered groups and Group B and make new ones
    The categories/groups:
-Modern Prototypes (prototypes such as LMP1, LMH and LMP900)
-Classic Prototypes (prototypes such as Group C, 1997-98 GT1 and some older prototypes with similar perfromance such as Porsche 917K)
-Silhouette GT (the fastest GT cars such as GT1 and Group 1)
-High Performance GT (GT cars such as GT3, GTE, GT2, 2005-11 GT1)
-Low Performance GT (GT cars such as GT4)
-Touring Cars (all touring cars like TCR, cup cars, 90's DTM etc)
    -Stock Cars (NASCAR cars)
-Modern Rally (rally cars such as 21th century WRC cars)
-Classic Rally (rally cars such as Group B and older rally cars)
Cars that can't be in any of them will remain unclassified.
An option to enable as many categories in races (both singleplayer and multiplayer) as you want, also be able to have classified cars together with unclassified ones racing together
Tho in case the 1st one happen, Manufacturers Cup might need to be scrapped, also irrelevant with the video, but I would like them to delete the fictional Gr. 4, Gr. 3 and Gr. 1 cars, and return the original touring cars and LM race cars from the old GT's.
I think GT should focus less on esports and focus more on what it was, and delete the cars that were made for the groups that were made for the esports, like the GT championships (especially Manufacturers Cup.

The only problem with your idea is that there are to little cars in each group for it to be fun. For Gr.B I agree entirely on what you said. And what you said for cars like the FXX K or the Zonda. For Group 4 I would keep it the same except I would put the Alfa Romeo 155 in Gr.3. For Gr.3 I'd Put the Nissan Silhouette in Gr.4 And as weird as it is, I'd keep the McLaren F1 GT-R in GR.3 so we don't have 2 McLaren F1s in one class. I'd put the Aston Martin DBR9 GT1 in Gr.2M, The Skyline GT500, Mugen NSX GT500, and the Supra GT500 in Gr.4, and maybe add a Gr.3N (N for Nürburgring). (Idk about the Gr.3 Vgts so they can stay for now). For Gr.2 I'd have 2 classes Gr.2M (Modern), With the DBR9, 2016 GT-R GT500, 2016 NSX GT500, 2016 Lexus RC F GT500, and the RS5 DTM. And the other one is Gr.2L (Legends) with the three 90's GT1 cars, and the three 2008 GT500 cars. And finally Gr.1, I would make into three classes Gr.1C Gr.1V (VGT) and Gr.1P (Prototype) Do you think I did a good job? Feel free to let me know! 😃👍

I think the class system is fine as is. *But.* There's a big caveat of missed potential.
    It's the Hashtag system.
The fact that you can head into a Group Class race and see a huge variety of cars from every point of history duking it out on the track is Gran Turismo's biggest strength and most uniquely defining element among competitive sim racers, so it needs to stay.
Instead, the game needs to use the Hashtag system infinitely better, because as it is now, it's a waste of space.
First of all, we need more categories. Have a DTM category, a JGTC category, a Group C category - every little thing we can think of, we make as a category, since each car can have more than one Hashtag.
Then, we enable the ability to filter cars in lobbies by Hashtags. So you can go online, and say, set up a lobby in Group 1 using only cars from Group C.
This is an infinitely superior change and a much better use of a system that is already in the game and could feasibly be seen implemented in an update.

definetly agree with how youre saying. GT500 and GT3/E should be in different classes and a 787 should not be up against the 919. would be nice to see real life racing designations and race conversion kits for cars that do have race variants or after doing so much to the upgrades. once I upgrade an R35 to race tyres and throw on top tier stuff I think the player should be able to choose to run it as a race car in a semi realistic spec or keep it on the PP system. imagine a homebrew GTR GT3 vs a real GTR GT3 with more or less BOP parts being the race diff, suspension and tyres

In terms of classes I think it should be like this:
Gr.X - Extreme Prototypes and Vision Gran Turismo cars (e.g. Red Bull X2014/2019, Escudo, IDR, Formula style cars, etc). The fastest cars in the game. by default, they won't be excluded from events, but can be like a filter, such as "Gr.X Prohibited" on events like a 550/600pp race to avoid the issue of exploiters. Eligible for events with the tag "Extreme", "Prototype" (specifically for VGTs that have a mirroring Gr.1 vehicle, or would fit into the class well), "Road Car" (for VGTs classed as road cars), and "GT Car" (got VGTs and others that fit roughly into GT-style regulations, such as the Lexus VGT).
GT1 - Fastest Regulated Race cars. This will be your LMPs and Hypercars from 2001 onwards. Eligible for events with the "Race Car" or "Prototype" tag.
Gr.1 - Regulated Race cars from a bygone era (up to 2000). Eligible for events with the "Race Car" or "Prototype" tag.
GT2 - Modern GT500 and DTM vehicles (2005+, excluding DTMs after the regulation Change to GT3). Eligible for events with the "Race Car" or "Super GT X DTM" Tag.
Gr.2 - Older JGTC and Super Silhouette cars ( 2004 and backwards). Eligibile got events with the "Race Car" or "JGTC" Tag.
GT3 - Modern GT3/GT300 vehicles and imaginary modern GT3 vehicles. Essentially a replacement for the old Gr.3 class. Eligible for events with the "Race Car" tag.
Gr.3 - GT vehicles that would othereise be in the old Gr.3 class that are not currently classed by this system. Including GT1/2 vehicles such as the Aston Martin DBR9 GT1 (not LMGT1). Eligible for events with the "Race Car" tag.
GT4 - Cars that fit the Modern GT4 regulations. The fictional and real Gr.4 cars based on models from 2000 onwards are included. Eligible for races with the "Race Car" tag.
Gr.4 - Historic Group 4/5 race cars, such as the Alfa 155. Eligibile for races with the "Race Car" tag.
Gr.A - Slower Rally cars (that fit loosely within the real Group A rally regulations). Eligible for events with the "Race Car" or "Rally Car" tag.
Gr.B - Rally vehicles that fit closer with the original group B regulations (the fictional rally cars and Quattro pikes peak + Peugeot will live here). Eligible for events with the "Race Car" or "Rally Car" tag.
Gr.T - For Track-only cars such as the Zonda R and P1 GTR. Eligible for events with the "Track Car" or "Professionally Tuned" tags.
The rest of the vehicles are tagged as they are normally, and not grouped, governed by the PP system. Gr.X/S cars also are governed by PP.
There will be tags for each group. E.g. A Gr.1 vehicle will have the tag GT.1, etc.
If a race has no tags applied, any car is eligible.
That's my thoughts on a grouping system for GT7.

GT6 (and i believe GT5) had the categories to a certain extend. In multiplayer lobbies you could choose a class of what you wanted the session to be. The categories were based on their real life race class, But never used in singleplayer. Like there was NASCAR, DTM, GT500, LMP1, Group C, etc. Can't name them all from my head.
In GTS, the classes as they were made kinda sense. Atleast for the race cars. Gr. 4, Gr. 3, Gr. 2, Gr. 1 and Gr. B. But now, with A LOT of various cars thrown into the same class, it is not making sense anymore. Like Gr. 2 includes the GT500, which in the begin was the only thing in this class. But later the Mclaren F1 got added, as well as the Toyota GT-One, Mercedes CLK, and even a modern DTM.
Cars should atleast recieve there original race type as a hashtag. Like already exists for street, racecar, mid-engine, etc. And when creating an online session, in categories it doesn't just say Gr 4 to 1. But also DTM, GT500 90's/'08/'16, LMP1, Gr. C, and any other race classes currently in the game.

I think that they really missed a chance to have race modifications come back as GR.4. You could have a wide variety of RMed cars that are basically "maxxed out" road cars with unique stripped and caged interiors. It would make modifying a car a lot more interesting and you'd have more of an incentive to try serious upgrades to any given car.
Tuned cars are generally an in-between of pure road car and race car. The exact point, at least IRL when it becomes a full on tuned car, IMO, is when you'd have to sacrifice creature comforts in order to go faster. Since the game has stuff like "street, sports, race" parts, maybe class road cars into "street" "tuned" and "race" or something so that generally speaking, cars that are modified to a certain level can fairly compete.

    • @MidnightGreen4649
      @MidnightGreen4649 2 місяці тому

@@HSGAutomotive That is true. I think with a "smaller" car list you're forced to invest more time into a given car which would make one of Kaz's goals, to have players feel connected to their cars, come across more naturally. Getting a starter GT86 or Civic for example, then at the end becoming the champion with it after heavily tuning it, would be a great testament to why we love cars so much.
I really like the rally ideas, but we also would need a bigger rally presence in the game. I feel having maybe 3 or so dirt/snow tracks really doesn't justify trucks and other "off-road" cars. Honestly that thing is way better suited to Forza Horizon/Test Drive Unlimited.

In GT7 they already made a proper framework to filter cars into proper groups, without dumping ground groups and not as complicated as making even more groups out of 1+2+3+4+B, with "after 1980", "before 1990", "Rally Car" that's all the real life Group.B cars, with "before 1970" and "Le Mans" that's the groups of Gr.X like 330P4, 250 GTO, XJ13 and GT40 MK.IV

For any group system or classification system to actually make any sense they need to be populated, a group with only 2 cars would be very boring and if not, just a label.
I share many of the ideas and resonings you said in the video, and the whole community i believe, since the gt7 lauch haha
Polyphony is fully aware that gt7 doesn't have enough cars , seeing how they are grouping the drop fed new cars, the only group/classes that are fully populated and kinda well balanced are the ones used in the official tournaments, Besides that, they use the PP system or listen to whatever orders kazunori gives them. If i'm not mistaken, gt7 released with just a little over 270 cars and a big chunk of that is gt sport heirloom.
It makes me wonder, how come Microsoft is able to license the shit ton of cars they have on forza, but sony, polyphony and the well acquainted and connected kazunori can not? Is it a budget issue? sony doesn't want to foot the licensing bills? they can't find enough talented 3d model artists? is this all for the sole twisted enjoyment kazunori has on fucking on a gigantic franchise?
One can only wonder and ponder, and hope the next one isn't a reskin (or how they say it, a upgraded) of gt7 to charge more money. Which I wouldn't mind paying if the effort and care polyphony once had were visible.
