  • 2 mine shafts (4 & 5) are drilled and reamed to approximately 30m below ground level at 4.3m diameter, using shotcrete as wall stabilisation cast in night shift. Shaft (6) is 7.8m diameter, which requires the construction of a “ringed hard soft secant wall” around the perimeter prior to internal drilling at 7.3m diameter down to 30m.

Amazing operations like this one always get me thinking... Is there a store for 25' diameter hole saws? How did they get it there? Like disassembling into a bunch of wedges or something? Where do you keep it between jobs? What other awesomeness is in the yard one stores such things? How many jobs like this are there? How much does that rotating assembly weigh? ... Thanks for the great video!

you drill a pilot hole first then attach reamers which cut to the diameter of the next barrel which also has reamers and the material that is removed by the reamers falls into the pilot hole . lots of tool changing as you have to keep removing spoil from the pilot hole !! It's a slow process

+kpatfarrell Thank you for your query. This was a 7.8m diameter shaft drilled out in 7 days after constructing a secant pile wall around the perimeter. Kind regards, Jo

@@pilingcontractors1961 How are shafts that go down hundreds of meters made? surely there can't be a crane that goes hundreds of metres up to do that
